This was my second time here and it's more of a 3.5 star review. Stopped in with a girlfriend of mine around noon after a 5k in prospect park on Saturday. The place wasn't busy when we arrived, but it was by the time we left around 2. Place is a decent size, but it can get super crowded. Service this time was much better than my last visit. Our server Diamond was really cool and open to giving menu recommendations. There was a mix of soca and dancehall playing and I appreciate that it was at an appropriate volume where you could hold a conversation. For drinks, I had "The Pash" which was fine (nothing amazing) and my friend had a mango slush with rum. For the appetizer, we shared the ackee and saltfish bammy bites. Those were really good and I remember liking them. For entrees, my friend got the jerk chicken which she (as a Jamaican) said was super spicy, but manageable once you get past the jerk sauce. I had the Belgian waffles and shrimp. The flavor of both were good, but here's where I had the problem. My waffles came out damn near cold. I sent them back. They were apologetic and I was promised fresh waffles. When they came out the second time, they STILL weren't hot but I dealt with it. This means that it's sitting under a warmer and not "fresh off the press" so to speak. The place is a little expensive for my liking and there are better restaurants for the price point.

This is my second time eating at this restaurant and they did not disappoint. The oxtail was succulent and seasoned to perfection and the Mac and cheese had an awesome cheese pull. Everyone was so friendly and respectful from the host to the servers. Although it was kind of loud, it was expected since it's also a sports bar and it drowned out the noise my toddler was making. Overall I'd visit this place again and again because the menu is so extensive and appealing!

Excellent service! Walked in during a busy dinner hour and only had to wait about 15-20 min. The oxtail dish was so good. Salad I could've skipped. Mac and cheese was flavorful as well.

I came in on a Friday around 12:30. The bar was empty so we just sat there. The service was good. The waitresses were nice and gave us good suggestions on what drinks to order. The tacos were delicious! I will say their jerk chicken is spicyyy! I still ate it all but just make sure you have water lol. The mini bites of ackee & salt fish was also good. So we were off to a great start. That rum punch with punch you btw so be careful of that too lol. We split the platter and loved everything on it. Only thing I will say is that the oxtail was a bit salty. I will definitely be back probably for lunch again because I know it gets packed for dinner !

Walked in with no reservations but we were able to grab a seat at the bar. I ordered the jerk salmon and it came with veggies and rice. I initially asked to substitute the rice for mash but they said I was unable to. The rice was dry but had flavor. Maybe next time I'll ask for some gravy on the side. The jerk salmon was ok. Prob will try the snapper next time. The rum punch was rummy just the way I like it. I had 2 and it put me in a good place. This place is always crowded. It can take forever to get the bartenders attention but she was polite.

Came here with some coworker friends for a weekend lunch at the recommendation of one of my coworkers. I was very excited to try more Caribbean food. Located across the street from the Barclay Center, it was very convenient to get to. The restaurant was much larger than I expected too but wasn't too crowded for a Saturday lunch so you can definitely just walk in. I was very excited about the sampler bowl. We were told it was a good portion for a group of three and adding a side would make it the perfect meal. The sampler came with curry goat, chicken, oxtail, plantains, and rice and veggies. The meats were all well seasoned. I guess my palate isn't too familiar and used to the Caribbean spices so i thought it was just a bit too spicy for my liking. The mac and cheese on the other hand was amazing. We also ordered festival, a Jamaican slightly sweet deep-fried bread that I tried for the first time.

The restaurant is very cute. It definitely has a vibe. I arrived early for a group dinner so I sat at the bar. I ordered a drink from a male bartender who never brought my drink. After twenty minutes I asked a young lady to take care of my drink order. She quickly brought my drink. I gave her a $20 and told her not to share it with the other bartenders, especially the incompetent man standing next to her. The wings were finger licking good. However, the macaroni and cheese was dry and had no cheese pull.

Correctness/Taste (1-5): I got the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and macaroni and cheese. The rice and peas was really good. If you're looking for traditional jerk chicken, this may not be to your liking, it was more spicy than smoky and flavorful. - 4/5 Value (1-5): So there are many mom and pop Caribbean food spots that will give you jerk chicken, rice and peas and mac for half the price and arguably better tasting. This is where you go for a party and gathering with friends to eat and vibe out to music. - 3/5 Customer Service/Ambiance (1-5): My server was really nice and attentive, though take that with a grain of salt, I arrived about 15 minutes after they opened (empty at the time). I'd imagine with the layout of the restaurant, it could be harder to get attention during busier times. The ambiance to this place is really lovely too, a lot of old school music, definitely a place for parties/dates/group gathering. - 4/5

Came here on a Friday afternoon. Highly recommend you make reservations. This place gets packed pretty quick. Staff here are friendly and super attentive. Our server George was great. This place is serving up great drinks and vibes. The food was delicious. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor. I highly recommend to try The Simpson (biggie) sample platter if you would like to sample a few dishes all at once. The oxtails and goat are delicious. The reggae pasta was creamy and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The Simpson Rum Punch was my favorite out of all the drinks that we ordered. Do not sleep on the dessert menu. The red velvet, lava cake and chocolate tuxedo bombe were delicious. This is a nice Caribbean restaurant serving up some great dishes. I will definitely be coming back.

We love the food here! The Atlantic City location is cool but the BK location is my favorite. Thankfully we didn't need reservations when we arrived just as they opened on a Friday afternoon. Biggie Platter- A splendid and a full glorious spread of Jamaican goodness: Rice and peas, White Rice, Oxtail, Curry Goat, Sweet Plaintians, Jerk Chicken, and mixed veggies. And if I did not have enough to choose from, I ordered a side of Mac and Cheese. It was perfect for sharing and had enough left over to take home. Everything was delicious. I had a refreshing mocktail that I believe was a mix of guava and some other tropical fruit. Very good! The service was good but very Slow. It was like the waiter wanted us to stay for the whole afternoon.

The Simpson Restaurant is a nice Caribbean spot with really good food. Food: the brownstew fish, fried chicken, lobster tail, oxtail, chicken wings, saltfish flitters, spring rolls, fried rice, and the mac&cheese Service: the service was good as our waiter was very attentive. Everything came out fast and accurate with smiles. Ambiance: the ambiance is very open styled seating, with a full bar, and catering hall for big parties. The tables, lightening, and overall views give island vibe. The overall rating is 4.7/5.0

From the moment we walked in, the ambiance stood out--beautiful lighting, thoughtfully curated décor, and an overall inviting atmosphere. We visited on a Thursday night, which turned out to be perfect, as the restaurant fills up quickly. The staff was wonderful: courteous, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout our visit. The food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were even better, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience.

The other day I checked out the The Simpson in Bk and had an enjoyable evening. We went to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had the honey curry wings, escovitche fish with festival, breadfruit, and the steamed fish with bammy. The wings were okay. More sweet than curry. Both fish dishes were made with red snapper. The escovitche was good but the steamed fish was phenomenal. I especially liked pumpkin and bammy in the sauce. The breadfruit was fried to perfection and the festival was soft and delicious. The server was nice and attentive and gave us great suggestions for dinner options. We enjoyed our meal and I will definitely dine here again in the future.

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

For apps, we got the curry crab gyoza which was a very small portion (6/10) and the roasted mushroom truffle flatbread which was the highlight of the meal (8.5/10). For mains, we tried the biang biang Rasta noodles with salmon (6/10) and the sofrino roasted chicken (5/10). Both were a bit underwhelming. I've heard their drinks are great but we didn't try any. Food-wise, I was a little disappointed, but still had a great time catching up with friends.

But this is a reminder that no matter how good your cocktails are, no matter how delicious your food is, service is king, and a 20% automatic gratuity can often enable some pretty terrible staff management and lackadaisical attitudes. What a waste. I came here on Tuesday night with my top-tier chum to grab a drink before the Nets/Celtics game. I showed up about 15 minutes before she did and was able to secure two spots at the bar before her arrival. While I waited for her, I ordered a Dream Catcher, which sounded super tasty (Patron, and a lot of pineapple vibes)...and then I waited some more. The bartender was nice but she was just WAY too slow. She wasn't able to multitask and my drink literally took 10-15 minutes to make, which is just not acceptable, especially when it was clear it was the only one she was working on. It showed up a minute before my friend did, and my 15-minute head start was rendered completely moot. The other ominous development right from the start? While the bartender was slowly making the drink, two members of the waitstaff were just hanging out at the end of the bar playing on their phones. So already, it was clear that the support staff hadn't been managed/instructed to pitch in during periods of need. The drink itself was actually really good; it just took a ridiculous amount of time for her to make, which to me is both a strong indicator that you need to train her to do this quickly without losing the quality of the beverage and also ensuring that you have at least one other person helping her behind the bar. The bar itself was pretty packed and there wasn't a moment where she wasn't doing something. Read the room and get off your phone. That to me is an unforgiveable sin. When my friend showed up, she also ordered the Dream Catcher, and we got the Crab Rangoon and Shrimp Tempura apps to munch on. The apps came out pretty quickly and were really good - fried perfectly, which I think is the area where it's easy to overdo it and potentially ruin these items. Huge points there and made the service problems even more frustrating. We weren't provided with napkins/silverware to eat the apps, so my chum had to wander around the establishment looking for them (no one assisted her in that search). The slow bartending reared its head immediately and my chum also had to deal with a mystifying 15-minute wait for her cocktail. We had about 40 minutes to play with before we had to be at the game, but because the service was so mediocre, we couldn't risk it - so they missed out on a second drinks and apps. Just leaving money on the table. We were so disappointed walking out of there. A lot of the qualities you'd want to pre-game before an NBA matchup are here, and I didn't even get into the ambience, which was both pretty chill with dim lighting but also had a little electricity in it. They have a ton of good material to work with . But if you can't trust the staff to be engaged and provide quality hospitality, it doesn't really matter. We had a conversation about coming back here some other time potentially but they just don't deserve it. Also, if you're trying this hard to figure out a way to strategically have a good time at a bar, that's all you need to know - you've answered your own question. And when we saw the 20% gratuity added? Final slap in the face. Frankly, if you're going to do that, at the very least let us know when you hand us the bill that it's added on; it's so easy to miss in a darkened bar, and given the other issues I just can't give the benefit of the doubt there. But this is why automatic gratuities need to be abolished. The bartender and the rest of the staff have no incentive to roll up their sleeves and provide a positive experience - they're getting paid no matter what. Hopefully management really takes a step back to reconsider their stance here or at least improve the staffing so they don't take all of the legitimate positives here and throw them in the trash can. You should be building on the good stuff, not canceling it out.
