Finally! We are dining at The Simpson and it's what I hoped for. Diamond, our server was as warm friendly and professional as one can be. Great smile, great energy. The decor is lively, urban in the best ways, pictures or renderings of famous NY and NJ celebrities, high tables and tall chairs, beautiful brown leather and a very nice bar, I recommend the Sorrel with a spike, I had the wray nephew spike, it was great. For the main event I ordered the oxtail macaroni and cheese pie, it was excellent, hubby had the brown stew red snapper, he left the fish bones as dust . Our daughter had the Bourbon jerk baby lamb chops with mashed potatoes, delicious. Her significant other had the coconut curry salmon, also delicious. We will definitely be back. So in short, yes, it does live up to the hype.
Walked in a holiday with a group of ten. The service and attentiveness we received was amazing. I enjoyed the fried to golden perfection red snapper. Also had a Ting with Wray & Nephew. Deliciously authentic Jamaican food!
I consider this place the "Applebee's" of Caribbean food . It was good but I've had better all over Brooklyn. The oxtail was tender just needed a lil more flavor. Don't get me wrong it was good. But I have to say this is my least favorite of oxtails that I've had. People say the rice is a lil dry. I concur, it's decent but a lil dry. Would I return? It's very possible but I wouldn't recommend you putting this on your "bucket list ". Service was great.
This restaurant was amazing. I walked in on a Saturday night 2 hours before closing. Me and my partner received the best service and the food was 10/10. The drinks were strong I got the rum punch. The food well seasoned and delicious. We had the oxtail with mac and curry chicken dinner. I can't stop thinking about it. I will be back.
The moment we walked in, I knew we were in for an amazing culinary experience. It was my birthday weekend, and we were in New York for an extended stay. For my hubby, Brooklyn is home - and we always love exploring the new places the city has to offer when we visit. We had reservations, and were seated within 10 minutes, which was reasonable. The place was packed - everyone was in high spirits, and I was ready to taste some of the best Caribbean cuisine in the region. My hubby's best friend - a Brooklyn resident, joined us. He had been to the restaurant a few times - and had good things to say. We were not disappointed. I had the Brown Stew Red Snapper - *chef's kiss*. Hubby had the iconic Jerk Oxtail over Macaroni & Cheese Pie! The English language cannot convey the beauty of that combination! Tender, tender oxtail, falling off the bone with the creamy, cheesy mac & cheese! He wanted to savor that dish another day, so he got a to-go bag and took it back to the hotel! (I couldn't help but clean my plate - I was obsessed with the fish!) Our friend enjoyed the Hennessy Fried Shrimp (not pictured) - one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant. It looked delicious as well. For drinks, I had the Bob Marley cocktail. A colorful drink - flavorful - and effective! There were people celebrating their birthdays throughout the night - and the wait staff goes IN! I was enjoying watching at least 10 people receive the Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" song while we were there. Imagine my surprise when it was my turn! My birthday was the day before, and we had already celebrated in Manhattan. Having two special recognition events made the evening that much more special! Shout out to the Simpson crew who came with the song, the rhythm, the sparkling cake, and the good vibes! My 70th birthday was exceptional - without a doubt. The Simpson added the touch I needed. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Brooklyn!
Initial walk in, the greeting was prompt and warm. We were seated quickly and received water after a short wait. I asked for bottled still water, but the staff member didn't know what they offered, so I decided to wait. Our server came over for drink orders and she was very warm and kind. She took our full order at once. I asked again about bottled water and she confirmed they had Voss, which was perfect. I requested ice on the side. When the water still did not come, I asked a third time. At that point, she told me they only had sparkling water. Ma'am... were you ever going to tell me? Or was I supposed to just sit there guessing and waiting? I was two seconds from going to grab a bottle out of my car. Food: * Cod fish fritters (appetizer): very good, and the aioli really elevated the flavor * Brown stew snapper with veggies, rice and beans, and mac and cheese: the snapper itself was flavorful but not hot, which was disappointing. The veggies lacked seasoning, and the mac and cheese tasted like plain noodles with cheese * Oxtails (my mom): she loved them, but they were just okay to me * Chicken and waffles (my husband): he enjoyed it * Fresh fruit punch: absolutely delicious Service: This is where things went downhill. After the initial interaction, I had to constantly look for our server or any staff member whenever I needed something. Not once did anyone check in to ask if we needed anything or how everything was. That level of inattentiveness is unacceptable. I was extremely annoyed. This is not the experience I expected based on reviews, but then I realized something important. Google and Yelp reviews are very different. Yelp reviewers tend to be more honest and consistent, and I should have listened. Final Thoughts: Traveling all the way from Boston for this experience was a letdown. Between having to chase service and inconsistent food quality, it simply was not worth it. If it were not for how I was raised, the tip would have been 10 percent, and even that would have been forced. Simpson's needs to either hire more staff or seriously retrain their team on customer service. Bostonians: it is not worth the trip.
I went to this restaurant because I was really craving mac and cheese and wanted to see how theirs tasted. I ended up ordering the macaroni, the jerk wings, and the oxtail. The food was definitely the best part of the visit because everything tasted really good and hit the spot. Unfortunately, the service side of things was not as good. The staff moved quite slowly, and it took a really long time for our order to come out of the kitchen. It is a good place if you only care about the taste of the food, but you need to be ready to wait.
This was my second time here and it's more of a 3.5 star review. Stopped in with a girlfriend of mine around noon after a 5k in prospect park on Saturday. The place wasn't busy when we arrived, but it was by the time we left around 2. Place is a decent size, but it can get super crowded. Service this time was much better than my last visit. Our server Diamond was really cool and open to giving menu recommendations. There was a mix of soca and dancehall playing and I appreciate that it was at an appropriate volume where you could hold a conversation. For drinks, I had "The Pash" which was fine (nothing amazing) and my friend had a mango slush with rum. For the appetizer, we shared the ackee and saltfish bammy bites. Those were really good and I remember liking them. For entrees, my friend got the jerk chicken which she (as a Jamaican) said was super spicy, but manageable once you get past the jerk sauce. I had the Belgian waffles and shrimp. The flavor of both were good, but here's where I had the problem. My waffles came out damn near cold. I sent them back. They were apologetic and I was promised fresh waffles. When they came out the second time, they STILL weren't hot but I dealt with it. This means that it's sitting under a warmer and not "fresh off the press" so to speak. The place is a little expensive for my liking and there are better restaurants for the price point.

It can take forever to get the bartenders attention but she was polite.
Expect to be impressed when you walk in. Beautiful, vibrant, noisy, happy place. Comfortable, relaxed seating, terrific food, and a lot to look at. Unfortunately, our (rather expensive) cocktails did not arrive until we were done with our meal, despite asking the server about their whereabouts several times. Came here with some coworker friends for a weekend lunch at the recommendation of one of my coworkers. I was very excited to try more Caribbean food. Located across the street from the Barclay Center, it was very convenient to get to. The restaurant was much larger than I expected too but wasn't too crowded for a Saturday lunch so you can definitely just walk in. I was very excited about the sampler bowl. We were told it was a good portion for a group of three and adding a side would make it the perfect meal. The sampler came with curry goat, chicken, oxtail, plantains, and rice and veggies. The meats were all well seasoned. I guess my palate isn't too familiar and used to the Caribbean spices so i thought it was just a bit too spicy for my liking. The mac and cheese on the other hand was amazing. We also ordered festival, a Jamaican slightly sweet deep-fried bread that I tried for the first time.
Consistent...no matter what the food and the vibe is always 10 plus. Food, drinks and service.
Always consistent and always hot and fresh. I finally tried the sampler platter and it was so much food but that curry goat was slap ya mama worthy and the plantains were nice and sweet
This place was cool, I thought the staff was a little pushy with though. Like waiting in line and stuff the security and front desk host were saying stand here or no stand there(not in the nicest way), we just went outside to wait. I didn't really like that. Once we got to our table everything was good. I didn't drink but my friends do and some think it was too sweet but everyone was happy with food. I got the Mac n cheese but it was good. read more
Let's start with the bad.. the service is slow and granted it is a busy location, hire more people! I shouldn't have to wait 30-40 mins just for a drink. And on top of that the staff having an attitude! Our server was new and that's understandable, and she was pleasant but them other people . Now the good...The inside scenery was awesome! It gives a little nostalgia, with a little modern, with a little island, and it has warm and cozy atmosphere/vibe. The food was 110% banging. The jerk lamb was good, the oxtail & mac was good and the drinks were ok but had great presentation. It's right across the street from the Barclays so parking is a little hectic but I'll definitely be back! read more
We went for a game in Barclays center and wanted to eat something quick outside . We know we will not get good food inside the stadium and even if we did, it should be insanely expensive... saw this restaurant right opposite to the stadium.. parking is a mess here. Had to park a few blocks away and that too paid parking . It's crazy during the game day... lots of sit inside to sit and eat . Actually the ambience was pretty good... Everything was slightly pricey though.. most of the stuff was $15-$30 ... They also had a bar inside... jerk chicken wings was out of the world . Absolutely awesome .! The best what we ate .. chicken fry was OK.. fries were good. Taco was good too. Pizza was mid but kids liked it . Good service .. nice place to have a quick drink and food before going inside the stadium. Good experience even though it was slightly expensive . 4 stars . read more

9.5/10 for the vibe, ambiance, and service -- and a full 10/10 for the food. I'm not a picky eater, but I've had some really disappointing oxtail lately, so I was hoping for the best here. I'm Dominican so I know oxtail pretty well and have made it myself. Thankfully, this place absolutely delivered. The oxtail was perfectly slow-braised, tender, and falling right off the bone -- exactly how it should be. Absolutely amazing. Of course I had the rice and peas, plus some veggies. A few of the veggies were slightly overcooked, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The drinks looked incredible, but I went with the rum punch and loved it. It was a little sweet, but super flavorful, strong, and definitely worth ordering again. For dessert, I had the Hennessy cheesecake, which was rich, decadent, and unbelievably delicious. There were three of us dining, and we all left completely satisfied -- with take-home containers because the portions are VERY generous. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that our server seemed to focus most of her attention on my friend. She is Jamaican, and because I look like a white American woman, I felt a little overlooked at times, even when I had several requests myself. We also had to look for her a couple of times while she was sitting with a group nearby. That said, everyone overall was very nice and welcoming. The bussers especially stood out -- they checked on us often, kept everything clean, and even greeted me in Spanish, which I appreciated. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back with more people next time. read more

The restaurant is very cute. It definitely has a vibe. I arrived early for a group dinner so I sat at the bar. I ordered a drink from a male bartender who never brought my drink. After twenty minutes I asked a young lady to take care of my drink order. She quickly brought my drink. I gave her a $20 and told her not to share it with the other bartenders, especially the incompetent man standing next to her. The wings were finger licking good. However, the macaroni and cheese was dry and had no cheese pull. read more

This is my second time eating at this restaurant and they did not disappoint. The oxtail was succulent and seasoned to perfection and the Mac and cheese had an awesome cheese pull. Everyone was so friendly and respectful from the host to the servers. Although it was kind of loud, it was expected since it's also a sports bar and it drowned out the noise my toddler was making. Overall I'd visit this place again and again because the menu is so extensive and appealing! read more

I came in on a Friday around 12:30. The bar was empty so we just sat there. The service was good. The waitresses were nice and gave us good suggestions on what drinks to order. The tacos were delicious! I will say their jerk chicken is spicyyy! I still ate it all but just make sure you have water lol. The mini bites of ackee & salt fish was also good. So we were off to a great start. That rum punch with punch you btw so be careful of that too lol. We split the platter and loved everything on it. Only thing I will say is that the oxtail was a bit salty. I will definitely be back probably for lunch again because I know it gets packed for dinner ! read more
Came here on a Friday afternoon. Highly recommend you make reservations. This place gets packed pretty quick. Staff here are friendly and super attentive. Our server George was great. This place is serving up great drinks and vibes. The food was delicious. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor. I highly recommend to try The Simpson (biggie) sample platter if you would like to sample a few dishes all at once. The oxtails and goat are delicious. The reggae pasta was creamy and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The Simpson Rum Punch was my favorite out of all the drinks that we ordered. Do not sleep on the dessert menu. The red velvet, lava cake and chocolate tuxedo bombe were delicious. This is a nice Caribbean restaurant serving up some great dishes. I will definitely be coming back. read more
We love the food here! The Atlantic City location is cool but the BK location is my favorite. Thankfully we didn't need reservations when we arrived just as they opened on a Friday afternoon. Biggie Platter- A splendid and a full glorious spread of Jamaican goodness: Rice and peas, White Rice, Oxtail, Curry Goat, Sweet Plaintians, Jerk Chicken, and mixed veggies. And if I did not have enough to choose from, I ordered a side of Mac and Cheese. It was perfect for sharing and had enough left over to take home. Everything was delicious. I had a refreshing mocktail that I believe was a mix of guava and some other tropical fruit. Very good! The service was good but very Slow. It was like the waiter wanted us to stay for the whole afternoon. read more

Food: the brownstew fish, fried chicken, lobster tail, oxtail, chicken wings, saltfish flitters, spring rolls, fried rice, and the mac&cheese Service: the service was good as our waiter was very attentive. Everything came out fast and accurate with smiles. Ambiance: the ambiance is very open styled seating, with a full bar, and catering hall for big parties. The other day I checked out the The Simpson in Bk and had an enjoyable evening. We went to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had the honey curry wings, escovitche fish with festival, breadfruit, and the steamed fish with bammy. The wings were okay. More sweet than curry. Both fish dishes were made with red snapper. The escovitche was good but the steamed fish was phenomenal. I especially liked pumpkin and bammy in the sauce. The breadfruit was fried to perfection and the festival was soft and delicious. The server was nice and attentive and gave us great suggestions for dinner options. We enjoyed our meal and I will definitely dine here again in the future. read more

Correctness/Taste (1-5): I got the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and macaroni and cheese. The rice and peas was really good. If you're looking for traditional jerk chicken, this may not be to your liking, it was more spicy than smoky and flavorful. - 4/5 Value (1-5): So there are many mom and pop Caribbean food spots that will give you jerk chicken, rice and peas and mac for half the price and arguably better tasting. This is where you go for a party and gathering with friends to eat and vibe out to music. - 3/5 Customer Service/Ambiance (1-5): My server was really nice and attentive, though take that with a grain of salt, I arrived about 15 minutes after they opened (empty at the time). I'd imagine with the layout of the restaurant, it could be harder to get attention during busier times. We came here on a Sunday night to celebrate my sisters graduation from medical school! We have a doctor in the house ya'll! The restaurant was packed and the bouncer at the door only let us in after we stated that we had a reservation. My sister, brother, and I ended up booking three separate reservations to get all 16 people a reservation for this celebration. They ended up being able to seat 10 people together and the other 6 (my table) sat at a different table. Be ready to open your wallet really wide when you come here because it is not cheap! I think they take advantage of the Barclays center being right across the street but the food is delicious. If you do shareable plates and split the check amongst one another you can save a lot of money though. The table of 10 complained that their service had been slow; however, my table of 6 had a great time with great service because our waiter, Bianca, was on it all night long! We started with the cheeseburger sliders which were tasty and cute. We probably shouldn't have ordered them considering how much food we took home after but we'll know for next time. You really don't need an appetizer because the portions are so big. The jerk oxtail over the Mac n cheese pie was fire. The flavor and seasoning of the food was perfect and left nothing to be desired. The oxtail was good and a little spicy while the Mac n cheese was creamy. The rice and peas was tasty and a little spicy as well which was a nice surprise. The jerk chicken was cooked perfect and still moist, not dry at all. The mixed vegetables were good. I think they were just on the plate to make us feel like we had some type of green food lol. I will definitely be back to this restaurant next time I'm in the city though. read more

My husband and I been waiting to try this place for a month now and we finally got to try it and it was so delicious. We didn't make a reservation which is rare for us but we were still able to walk in a get a table and we didn't have to wait long. The ambiance of the restaurant is so cozy the lighting was dim and perfect for an intimate date night or a big party gathering. I had the crab legs and hubby had oxtails and Mac and cheese we just shared each other's food. The food was so good and we had dessert. The oxtail was my favorite. The Simpson's, located in Brooklyn, is a Jamaican restaurant, and walking in, I was immediately struck by how spacious and thoughtfully laid out the space felt. On the left side, there's an open, creative area with a bar where you can seat yourself. On the right, there are more traditional dining-style tables. The space feels open in multiple directions, with festive decorations adding warmth. There's also a waiting area off to the right, which works well if you're waiting for the rest of your party or to be seated. One detail that really stood out to me was seeing someone actively managing the floor -- greeting guests, seating them, and offering water while people waited. That's not something you often see in Jamaican restaurants, which are usually structured differently, so it felt like a really intentional and elevated touch. As someone who grew up in Jamaica, I was especially curious to see how this restaurant balanced traditional Jamaican flavors while also appealing to a wider range of palates within a more modern dining setup. I ordered the macaroni and cheese, the brown stew snapper with mixed vegetables, and rice and peas. I had never had macaroni and cheese made by a Jamaican person before -- it wasn't a Sunday staple growing up -- so I was genuinely curious. The rice and peas ended up being a standout for me; you could tell the coconut milk was used really well, and that depth of flavor came through. I also had the carrot juice, which was really good. I actually told the people sitting next to me about it, and even though they already had drinks, they ordered it too -- and they said it was bomb. That felt like a strong, real-time endorsement. My server, Jared, had great energy and was very kind. From a logistical standpoint, though, he appeared to be the only person covering the dining area, including a large party. Because of that, there were delays when it came time to check out and ask for to-go containers. The guests next to me were also placing additional orders, which added to the load. From a management perspective, I think additional support or better delegation during busy times would make a big difference. One person shouldn't have to carry the entire dining room, especially when timing matters for guests. On the facilities side, the bathroom was clean, had multiple stalls, and featured a nice flowing water or filtration setup. I also appreciated the ramp leading into the dining area -- I noticed someone using a wheelchair, and it was good to see accessibility already built into the space. Overall, the experience was solid. The food, atmosphere, and intention are clearly there. With more front-of-house support during peak moments, this could be an even stronger experience. read more

The ambiance was a cool vibe and lively. The service was a bit dodgy because we waited more time to receive our food and we were the first to order amongst the other parties, but received our food nearly last. Our waiter barely checked on us and we waited long for our bill. My party stated their food was good, and I tried the curry lobster which was good. I think the curry salmon I ordered was not satisfying possibly because the salmon temperature was cool, the flavor lacked, and the texture was overcooked. Overall, it was okay and would try something else if I ever were to revisit while in the area. read more
