The restaurant was packed, the lighting was dim and intimate, and the overall atmosphere gave elevated Caribbean vibes. We were seated toward the back, where the lighting was a little brighter and we had a great view of the DJ--who absolutely understood the assignment. The music complemented the entire experience. The service was another highlight. The male host was absolutely lovely and attentive, but I have to give a special mention to the manager, Michelle. She seemed to know exactly what we needed before we even had to ask and accommodated us perfectly throughout the evening. Beautiful, warm, and such a pleasant attitude--Michelle was definitely giving me the vibes! Now, the food and drinks! My purse cocktail was one for the books. The presentation was way too cute, and I already know I need another one. I ordered the 2-lb Hellshire fish, which was delicious, and the rice and mac were BUSSIN'. The appetizers were great as well, portions were generous, and I found the pricing reasonable for the overall experience. My only drawback was parking. Finding a spot was a challenge, so if you have a reservation, definitely build extra time into your plans for parking so you aren't rushing. First, this establishment is far too loud. If I can't hear the questions or instructions from the waitstaff, that's a problem--this is a restaurant, not a nightclub. My friend also had to ask for water to be brought to the table, and we waited quite a while for our entrées. That said, the staff appeared to be working hard and may have simply been overwhelmed by the number of patrons. As for the food, it was delicious! Five of us dined, and the total bill was under $400, which I thought was very reasonable. The drinks served in the glass vase-style bags were also delicious. I'm changing my review from 2 stars to 1 because after thinking about the overall experience, there were just too many issues to overlook. My girlfriends and I came here for brunch a few Sundays ago, and one of the things that attracted us was the presentation of the drinks in their signature glasses. The way these drinks are promoted on social media, with people literally posing outside with the glasses, gives the impression that the glass is part of the experience, especially since there is an additional charge for the drink. I was surprised to find out that we could not keep the glass. There was no mention from our waiter that the glasses were for dine-in only, nor was there any clear indication that the additional charge was simply for the drink being served in that particular glass. If you're charging extra for something that is being heavily used as part of your marketing, I think it's reasonable for customers to wonder whether they're actually purchasing the glass. What made this worse was that I mentioned my concern on their Instagram post, and instead of acknowledging that the promotion could be confusing, the response was essentially that it's their signature glass and that customers don't get to keep it. But that doesn't address the issue. The issue is the lack of clear communication. And even after people in the comments were asking whether they could keep the glasses, I noticed they continued promoting the drinks in the same way without adding something as simple as "dine-in only" or "glass not included." That would eliminate the confusion completely. Unfortunately, the service itself wasn't great either. The food took a while, my waffle came out cold and had to be reheated, and I believe my friend's lamb chops were forgotten because she was waiting significantly longer for her food. The food was good when we actually received it, but good food doesn't make up for poor communication and a disappointing dining experience. I'm especially disappointed because the glass situation could have been handled so easily with a little transparency and customer service. I'm giving 1 star because this experience could have been much better, and the response afterward did not make me feel like the restaurant took the feedback seriously. Entered through the back (the GPS said the entrance was on that street..it's not ), and it took a few minutes for me to be greeted and escorted to the bar in the front. Once seated, the experience began Food - crab cake 5/5 snapper 5/5 drinks 3.5/5. A lot of things are spicy (it's Caribbean food) so just let the servers know your preference and they'll take good care of you Service - server was phenomenal. *Late review I went to this restaurant 7/12/26 I came (1 hr & change travel) for the $75 bottomless rum punch brunch and it did not disappoint! I had the jambalasi salmon with jasmine rice & side of Mac. So good! The rum punch did its job & we were even able to take to go cups for the long ride back home lol I had such a great experience!! I traveled three hours on a Saturday to get to this location and experience their brunch menu. Most places will have brunch on the weekends all day but they did not which was quite disappointing. None the less I was here and ready to try my luck. The ambiance was very cute. We were seated within a few minutes despite not having reservations which was great. I ordered the crab cake for appetizer which was incredible. Even the mango salad and dipping sauce they paired it with was incredible. I ordered a lychee martini which is a To go to for me esp when I'm unsure of what to drink and it was delicious as well. Then I get to my entree. I ordered the lamb chop which was made in a bbq style sauce and that was great. They were small but you got about 6 of them. I paired it with coconut rice and plantains. The coconut rice was the most bland rice I had ever tasted in my life and the plantains were hard like a rock. I had maybe two edible pieces and the rest my fork couldn't fit through to even pick it up. To finish off my experience I waited 25 mins for the check. Then I got up requested the check and spent another 20 mins waiting for that check. I have never waited on a check that long ever. Once the waiter served me the entree that was the last time anyone checked on my table for over 45 mins. I watched people who came in after me dine and leave and I was so confused. Today, two friends and I visited this restaurant, and unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the level of hospitality and service we received. When I first arrived, the hostess greeted me and explained that I would need to wait until my entire party arrived before being seated, which I completely understood. However, once my friends arrived, I had to get the hostess's attention because we felt as though we were being overlooked. When she finally came over, we asked to be seated in the back, and she made it very clear that there was a 90-minute seating limit. Again, we had no issue with that. Once we were seated, however, the experience became very disappointing. We were never given menus, water, or even greeted by our waitress. We watched as she attended to other tables around us while completely overlooking our table. What made the situation even more frustrating was that a party who arrived after us was promptly greeted and provided with menus and water. After sitting there and realizing that we were not going to be acknowledged or served, we decided to leave. It was only as we were walking out that the waitress finally approached us and apologized. Unfortunately, by that point, the apology was not well received because we had already been made to feel unwelcome and ignored. We also noticed the waitress sitting down eating and having drinks with what appeared to be friends while we were waiting to be served. We were genuinely excited to visit and try this restaurant, so it was extremely disappointing to have this type of experience. Good hospitality begins with making every guest feel welcomed and acknowledged, and unfortunately, that was not our experience today. Came here last Saturday for my besities bday. At first I was worried because the service and staff were friendly which is not a good thing for Caribbean restaurants (if you know, you know). The front part of the restaurant has a better vibe for my preference because its dimly lit and more of a loungy feel. And the BIGGEST shock of it all, even their macaroni pie was the best ive had because again, if you know Caribbean restaurants, you know how bad macaroni pie usually taste at most, well in my case all, prior to here. The Calypso Wings were also good. The waiter Akim was a gem! Great service and personality! Only reason I wont give it 5 stars is because I ordered a Hugo Spritz (not Hugo 75, which is what they had on their menu) and it was served in the wrong glass and was somewhat warm. I didn't request a change but didnt order any more drinks after that. Only a few places know to make this perfectly. Another reason is they were out of a lot of items including sweet plantains and oxtail (typical Caribbean restaurant behavior). Lastly, their billing system! The charge us tax if we pay with card. Not feeling that. The tax should not be my responsibility. Also, keep in mind that gratuity is 20% automatic for 2 or more which is hilarious. I went Easter Sunday to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I managed to find parking a block away even though when I drove up it seemed impossible. The crab cakes are huge, the mango slaw and drinks were delicious! The cabbage was not to my liking, it had no flavor. I had to ask three times & two different people to make sure I was hearing right and they didn't skimp on the portion! The four jumbo shrimp with sweet plantain & a green tamarind sauce was fulfilling & delicious. The Prosecco was perfect with a dried orange slice, making the whole experience seamless. I love the gigantic colorful planters outside of the restaurant. The decor outside and inside of the restaurant was very nice especially the back of the restaurant. We opted to dine outside because the weather was wonderful. Caribbean music was playing through the speaker which we enjoyed during our dining experience. Service was absolutely fantastic and professional the entire time. They made it even more special when they knew that I was celebrating my birthday. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and I loved my virgin piña colada. Let's get into the food details. Oh my goodness, we all enjoyed our food very much. They said they didn't have one and that they can make any mixed drink. I ordered a rum and coke and a can of ginger ale. Why did the bartender tell me $15 for the rum and coke- that wouldn't have been a problem if it was a regular sized cup. I came here this past weekend for a birthday brunch with friends! The indoors is very nicely decorated with lots of light bright colors and gold accents. We checked in for our reservation and went to the back. FYI, there is a front room and a back room. The brunch menu is pretty simple, however, keep in mind they don't have a bottomless option. So we opted to do a rum punch pitcher and the jerk wings to start. There was a delayed timeframe in which we got water and the rum punch. We received the wings first before the water and our rum punch. The rum punch was good, there could've been a bit more punch in it. When it came to the timing of the food it was pretty on point. The wings were extremely delicious. The meat fell off the bone and they were seasoned well. As a lover of spicy food, the spice is there, so if you aren't someone who can't tolerate spicy food, maybe have them tone it down for you (if possible). For my entree, I had the calypso fried chicken and waffles with a side of macaroni pie. So, I will say the sauce on the chicken is soooo good! I requested dark meat, and my friend ordered the same thing (without a request), and his chicken portion was a bit more than mine. In addition to this, my waffle was a bit soft. The macaroni pie I was a bit disappointed in, it did taste good when dipped with the calypso sauce. The chicken carried the meal. I tried a bite of the mango shrimp which was very good as well. We ended up getting these complimentary shots that were a combination of sweet, spicy, and a bit strong. There were a bunch of emotions behind the shot, but I enjoyed it. Then came the birthday cake! The presentation was cute! It was a chocolate lava cake and it was pretty good! I just felt like the cake was falling apart a bit too easily. I saw there were comments about no large parties for brunch, I can confirm that I did see one this past weekend, I hope that clears up some of the misunderstandings. Vibe/environment wise. If your a fan of Sugarcane in downtown Brooklyn you will easily fall in love with its sister restaurant Sugard. I was surprised that such a cute spot was nestled in the heart of the Caribbean community of East Flatbush. The Rogers Avenue entrance is the tea room/lounge, cute for large parties or a afterwork vibe. The Newkirk entrance is decorated nicely with browns and gold's and looks like when its warmer will provide outdoor dining and we were told that they have a live dj on Saturdays. I went for brunch and had a great time. The host was delightful and service spot on. We ordered the Calypso wings for appetizers (crispy and delicious). We ordered the brunch punch and a passionfruit mojito. The wings and drinks were sooo tasty. The chicken n waffles was a huge, a great portion for the price and my jambalassi salmon with mac and cheese and calaloo soup was a reminder of my trip to Trinidad. This restaurant was okay. I came with my family on a rainy day and they had holes in their ceilings and water on the floors i guess because of the rain so bad that day. Our table wasn't ready and we had to wait a long time to be seated till the birthday boy got his surprise while we were all standing at the door. By time we sat alot of things were sold out like the pasta and roti. The mac and cheese was salty but it wasnt too bad overall. I wouldn't return because the food wasn't great to me.
