Came here with a group of 5 for Saturday brunch. We had a reservation for soon after Kokomo opened and were seated fairly quickly. Service overall was a bit slow but good. Their playlist is great so vibes were on point. We all shared the lemon drop cocktail tower. It was super cute, tasty, fun, and did what it had to do for us pre-day party. For food, I tried the bao fish tacos and the crab curry gyoza. Both of these items were good but for the amount that comes with them it's pricy (you get 2 small bao tacos and 4 pieces of gyoza, both of which are $20-22 each). I liked the bao tacos the most because of the mixture of flavors and textures, including the excellently friend fish. The gyoza was different. It wasn't bad but I think I'm just used to crispy/fried gyoza vs these which were boiled/soft. My friends really enjoyed the crab fried rice. The fried sweet plantains were just ok to me; The batch we got were dry and not that sweet. read more

Pretty disappointing experience overall. I ordered the ackee and saltfish avocado toast, priced at $28, and nowhere on the menu did it mention that the portion was large enough for 2+ people. It came out as two huge slices of sourdough stacked so high that I couldn't even finish one. For something that expensive, there should absolutely be some indication of portion size, or at minimum the waiter should mention it when ordering. Avocado toast also isn't exactly something you can box up and save for later, so a lot of it just went to waste. Honestly, the menu feels arrogantly overpriced, what avocado toast dish is pushing $30? The only thing that seemed reasonably priced was the $35 bottomless brunch. Visited Kokomo to celebrate my college graduation, and overall I had a nice experience. The atmosphere was definitely a highlight, the music was great, the vibe was lively, and it feels like a nice lounge spot for hanging out with friends. They also offer hookah, which adds to the social atmosphere. The food was okay. I ordered the oxtails, but they were a bit spicier than I prefer, so I didn't enjoy them as much as I hoped. One thing I really appreciated was the thoughtful service. Since I was still wearing my cap and gown, the staff surprised me with a complimentary ice cream dessert to celebrate my graduation, which was a very kind gesture and made the experience feel special. Went here for brunch with friends because the vibes looked great and reviews were solid. We had a reservation right when they opened, but they were running about 20 minutes late -- not the best start. Once seated though, the space is beautiful. We were in a sunlit room and it really set the mood. Our server was great, and we ordered family-style. Just a heads up, they have a separate "Sunday drunch" menu so options are a bit limited. For apps, we got the curry crab gyoza which was a very small portion (6/10) and the roasted mushroom truffle flatbread which was the highlight of the meal (8.5/10). For mains, we tried the biang biang Rasta noodles with salmon (6/10) and the sofrino roasted chicken (5/10). Both were a bit underwhelming. I've heard their drinks are great but we didn't try any. Went for their Thursday night girl dinner and had a good time! Friendly staff, live dj, good food and cocktails. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and dimly lit. The special is pasta, salad, fries and a cocktail for 25 bucks! But add chicken or shrimp to the pasta for an additional up charge so more like 35-37 bucks depending on your choice. They have happy hour all day which is good if you want additional drinks. I had the chicken pasta which was delicious but could've been hotter in temperature. Like you can tell them make a bunch in advance and have them sit under a warmer. The coconut express martini was delicious and strong (they ran out of coffee beans though!) so I got another one! I had an absolutely horrible experience here. Before the rest of my party even arrived, I put in an order for 2 chicken bao buns. A full hour passed, my party arrived, ordered their food, and received their meals before I ever saw mine. When I asked our waiter what was going on, he was confused and said he would check with the kitchen. Fast forward to the 90-minute mark: everyone at my table had received their food and completely finished eating. Finally, the kitchen brought out my order--except they only brought ONE bao bun instead of the two I ordered, and it was completely cold. At that point, I told the waiter I didn't even want it anymore. He apologized and insisted they would make 2 fresh, hot bao buns for me quickly. I gave them one last chance, but another 20 minutes went by and nothing ever came. After 2 full hours of waiting and watching everyone else eat, I had to cancel my order entirely. I ended up having to leave my own party hungry and find a local pizza shop just to get a meal. The lack of communication and complete failure in service was unacceptable. I will not be returning. Caribbean Spiced Lamb - very delicious. The waiter said it was four pieces and comes with an egg on top. In actuality, it only came in 3 pieces and no egg on top. I feel like it should've came in 4 pieces as stated. The waiter wasn't accurate with his detail. Biang Biang Rasta Noodles - we added salmon on one and shrimps on another. The noodles did not need any proteins! The salmon was tough and the shrimp did not go well with it. Order the noodles just by itself. It will taste better. Crispy Crab Rice - very good. Curry Crab Gyoza - sauce was amazing. We saved the sauce for our next meal. Shrimp Tempura Bao Bao - was okay. Two small buns. Yardie Shrimp Flatbread - it was alright. Kokomo had the perfect vibe. Chill, grown, dim, and just the right energy. The music was on point, and the service was good and very personable. We ordered the oxtail, curry shrimp, a burger, and the koko pasta flatbread. Now I would never normally order a pasta flatbread because it feels comedically greedy, but I am so glad my friend let greed win. That flatbread was incredible and honestly worth the visit on its own. The oxtail was also really good and a personal favorite. The food was absolutely spectacular, full of bold, authentic flavor in every bite. The ambiance was vibrant, warm, and full of energy, all perfect for a lively night out with friends. Since we went on the weekend, the restaurant's DJ was playing all the best Afrobeat and Caribbean music throughout dinner! The service was above 10/10. Friday night we celebrated my daughter's 50th Birthday. The food was delicious. We started with jerk infused wings that were juicy with a sweeter flavor than I expected from an amazing glazethat topped the wings. I had salmon for my main course, which was cooked to perfection. The flavors here were quite satisfying as well. The portions of the salmon were generous. It came with a fennel salad (which was a very small portion) and rice. I liked the fennel dill salad and wished there were more. The staff here was indeed friendly and totally organized and professional. We were a large party and our host / server was Shakeem. He made sure the evening went without a hitch and other some of our party commented to me how patient and responsive he was with the people. my boyfie and I have been wanting to try this place ever since we saw the lamb and oxtail flatbread!! it looked so goood. we came in on a weekday afternoon, total of 3 customers at the time. Place played music, definitely romantic and giving an occasion vibe. Staff was friendly! Food came out after 15 mins or so. We ordered: Lamb 5/10: Flavor was salty, and sweet which I liked! however the lamb didn't taste fresh, there is a slight sour aftertaste. the food was also COLD! which was disappointing but we pushed through. Oxtail flatbread 9/10: YESSS SOOO GOOOD!!! the oxtail flatbread is so yummy and cheesy! do you see that cheese pull???? it was me and my boys fav. The drinks were good! I will start by saying I love the ambiance of Kokomo. Staff here is always friendly and music is always great during service and after hours. Food took entirely too long to come out. 40 minutes for an appetizer is crazy... Once they arrived, they were all tasty. I wish I took photos of the food. We ordered the curry crab gyoza which was so flavorful and the ackee and saltfish shumai. The oxtail flatbread is very large and lots of meat. They don't skimp out. Biang biang Rasta noodles is served with oyster mushrooms (so good) and peppers. I added shrimp to mine. Very tasty and filling. But keep in mind that the noodles are not penne and they are I think fettuccine They must do better on their serving time. The restaurant was crowded. But it would be nice to have the expectation set that there will be a long wait. read more

First time here and the food was good. The hosts and our waiter were very good and attentive. From the Lemon drop to the Plantini drink we're very good. I had the jerk wings with the sauce on the side and the Curry Crab Goyza which was pretty good. And for my main dish I had the pumpkin infused pancakes with chicken and my friend she ahd the coconut rice with oxtail gravy amd her drink was the Painkiller. She had a little upset stomach from mixing the drink with the crab goyza because of the creams but our waiter brought her a drink that immediately stopped whatever was going on. The only thing I did not like is the seating. I dont like to have a bunch of people all around me I just wished they had real booths for people. For a Friday night the vibe was just right. Flavor, Music and Decor. Highly recommend making reservations. This was a spot I've been eyeing for a long time and I'm glad I was able to experience it this weekend. As you can see in the pictures we were able to enjoy a few great things on the menu. For drinks we had watermelon, sorrel lemonade (nonalcoholic). Their herbed fries were so good we ended up ordering twice, I believe it's that delicious pepper sauce, (just the right amount of scotch bonnet taste), they serve it with that makes them taste even better. The sautéed callaloo was different (in a good way) served with plantain chips and some type of crema. One of our friends also ordered the ackee and salt fish shumai for starters. For our mains, my friend loved her coconut curry lentils suggested by one of the staff members. Thank you! My other friend ordered the oxtail flatbread (which I had to have with the pepper sauce, of course) . I ordered the jerk chicken wings, sweet plantains and coconut rice (some of the best any of us have had). Overall the service was excellent, attentive, friendly and on our pace. I tried the Crispy Chicken Bao Bun which I recommend, the Koko Pasta Flatbread with chicken - it is a perfect portion, even though it came out last, and the XO Noodles -- flavorful but not as impressive as expected. He was very pleasant, attentive, and cute. My friends were making him so nervous but he did so well lol. We came on a Sunday and had to order from the "Sunday Drunch" menu. The French toast and fried chicken was so so good. The Mac and cheese was good but wayyyyy too cheesy for me. The jerk infused wings were good but they weren't cooked well enough for my liking. We made reservations at Kokomo and were seated right on time, which was a great start. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. Our server took our drink order but never asked if we needed more time to look over the menu or if we had any questions before disappearing for about 15 minutes. When he finally returned to take our order, we were told they were out of two appetizers we had specifically wanted to try. After our food was delivered, we never saw him again until we flagged him down for the check. Ironically, we had just been to Medieval Times earlier that day, and the server there was far more attentive than the service we received at what is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. Whether our server was overwhelmed or simply didn't feel the need to provide good service because the 20% gratuity is automatically added, the level of attentiveness was disappointing. The jerk wings were very good, and the cocktails were well made. Unfortunately, the lobster I added to my curry was badly overcooked. The meat was difficult to remove from the shell and wasn't worth the additional charge. The restaurant itself also didn't live up to its upscale reputation. The tables and flooring looked worn and tired, and the music was so loud that it was difficult to have a normal conversation throughout dinner. One thing that really stood out in a negative way was one of the female servers walking around in a skirt so short that her underwear and butt cheeks were visible. That's not something I expect--or want--to see from the staff at a restaurant charging premium prices. Professionalism matters just as much as the food and service. Overall, this experience simply wasn't worth the traffic, tolls, or high prices. While the wings and drinks were enjoyable, they couldn't make up for the inattentive service, disappointing entrée, worn atmosphere, and excessively loud music. I left expecting much more based on Kokomo's reputation. Sadly, I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a quality dining experience. read more

It was a Wednesday and I wanted bottomless beverages and brunch in the middle of the week and not too many places do that...this one does. Shout out to a fellow yelp elite NYer for hitting me with some recommendations. Also, black owned at the end of Black History Month is a win. The bartender/server (yes, I'm a bar fly) was not feeling her best but her personality didn't represent that. I forget her name, even though she told me. She was nice in that beautiful New York ruggedness, Bronx origins I believe. I hope that she's there the next time I visit. It was quiet on this Wednesday afternoon with only a few tables being served and I got a moment to speak with one of the owners. She was cool. They were doing photos for the restaurant this afternoon. The food was good. It's rare to find good food with bottomless drinks. The French toast was perfect. I could've gone for more of it than chicken. The chicken was well flavored but slightly dry, my only complaint. I was actually speaking with another server about that after she asked me for my honest review. I was clearly very social during this visit probably because that carafe didn't stay upright often. I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time and decided to go for dinner. I did not have a reservation but was told I could sign up and wouldn't be more than 30 minute wait, which was accurate. I received a text when a table opened ip and was seated. Unfortunately, things sorta went downhill from there. The server came over after about ten minutes, but I was still waiting for my friend. Once she arrived, it took about 10-15 for him to return. We placed our order and then we waited over 90 minutes for our food. It took 90 just for our basic appetizers to come and while I got my calloo, my friend's appetizer was incorrect. They took about 25 minutes to bring her correct appetizer, which was cake and salt fish. She was perturbed, as was I, but she did enjoy her appetizer. While we sitting there frustrated a different server must have noticed something was wrong and we explained we had been waiting extremely long and she said she noticed we had been there awhile. She offered us a drink on the house to make up for it and went to get our food. I had the Salmon and that came with white rice. It was okay and we also had some macaroni cheese which was okay as well. We both had bread pudding for dessert which seemingly followed the same theme of just being okay. I did enjoy the drinks (Henny Colada) but the wait time really left a sour taste. I appreciate teed the other server coming to assist-- she further explained that he way too many tables assigned to him and was overwhelmed. Kokomo is a gorgeous spot right near the water in Brooklyn. I appreciate their creative cocktails and variety of vegetarian options. To drink, I enjoyed the We Limin' and the Henneycolada is a must try - be sure to stir it or you're gonna get a huge mouthful of henney lol. To eat, my favorite item was definitely the Koko Flatbread. The Rasta Balls, Tofu Buns, and Mac & Cheese were also tasty. I've come here an embarrassing amount of times just for that oxtail flatbread! It's my absolute favorite thing on the menu, but there's so many great things to choose from. I've come here for restaurant week, Valentine's Day, and casual drops ins the food never disappoints. It is very pretty inside, the perfect occasion dinner spot. This is my 3rd visit to Kokomo. However, it was my first time dining inside the restaurant. Kokomo is a very beautiful restaurant. The manager was extremely helpful and polite. My friend and I both enjoyed our sweet chili wings as our appetizer choice and menu choices from the Sunday Drunch menu. My friend ordered sweet plantain pancakes which were amazing. Our waitress was professional and nice. Water tasted great. Restaurant looked clean. Utensils, plates, cups, table clean. Across from us was more tables with swing chairs (that can fit 2 people in the swing chairs). You can't swing on it of course. But I thought that was unique. They made sure to refill our water cups. I've been following the restaurant on Instagram for some time but after seeing some BTS videos of Sous Chef AJ, General Manager Tasia & CoOwner Kev -- I jumped out of bed, made a last minute resy and commuted two hours from Montclair to Brooklyn to try Kokomo for the first time! I was greeted with a huge smile by the host who checked me in, made me aware that my table was ready, and offered me a seat at the bar until the other 2 people in my party arrived. The smell of Caribbean food filled the air, the music was booming and vibes were great -- this Haitian kid felt at home. Once my siblings checked in about 10 minutes later, our host directed us to our table. As we were taking our coats off to sit, Tasia (I recognized her from Instagram) approached our table and made us aware that the kitchen was closing within 30 minutes. We thanked her and took our seats. No less than 60 seconds later, a gentleman sporting a wrinkled black polo came over, introduced himself as our waiter and echoed the general manager's message. I asked the waiter for his name and he shared that it was Sinque (forgive the spelling). He went on to share what items they were out of for the day. We asked for his recommendations and requested two minutes for us to review the menu. Sinque obliged. Feeling extremely rushed, we skimmed the menu, identified a few things to eat and waited for our waiter to return. When he did, we ordered: Appetizer: Oxtail flatbread Entree: Pikliz Fish sandwich Jerkmi burger Koko's Chicken & waffles Sides: Sweet plantains Dessert: Rum raisin banana bread pudding Drinks Pear & Ginger Mimosa Ginger Ale Ginger Beer The oxtail flatbread was delicious! We really enjoyed the tender oxtails contrasted with the crispy onion on top. We sipped our drinks and made light conversation until our entrées arrived. My brother devoured his pikliz fish sandwich in a heartbeat but my sister was underwhelmed by her chicken and waffle dish. Her chicken looked amazing but tasted burnt (old oil?) but even worse - the waffle was literally inedible. My burger however was the freshest burger I've had in my life. The bread pudding was a bit small but packed with flavor. Given how dense the dessert was, the plastic spoons made it really challenging to dig in with ease. Food overall: 7/10. Having worked in hospitality for over 15 years (fast casual, fine dining & high volume hotels) I was really impressed by Kokomo's social media presence. The training videos and the standard of excellence clearly articulated by Kev, Tasia and others set the bar really high. That standard made me jump out of bed and take four trains for a two hour commute from NJ to Williamsburg. This is why I was extremely disappointed we didn't experience this level of excellence yesterday. Overall experience was sadly a 4/10. Came here as a party of 10 for my friends bday dinner this was my first time here and I had this place bookmarked for a while years to be exact lol.... Now on to food since we were a large party we had a prefixed menu option which made the most sense and was worth it in my opinion! We had the infused wings, crab gyoza, and the shrimp for appetizers; the salad with the shrimp was everybody's fave I wasn't a fan of the wings and the gyoza was overpowered by the curry that you didn't taste crab however they were still decent. For entrees we had oxtails, salmon and the, vegetarian pasta everyone enjoyed their food I liked the tamarind sauce that came with the salmon it elevated the coconut rice for me. Drinks were bad, honestly hard to finish. Service is what really killed it though. Our waiter never told us his name, seemed totally checked out the whole time. He plopped my partner's plate down without actually setting it in front of her right, and when she said something he just said "it's hot" like that was an explanation. Then my food showed up 15 minutes before everyone else's at the table, so I'm sitting there eating while my partner's just watching me. I treated my friend to Kokomo for her graduation as we both had been wanting to try their brunch for a while. They did not disappoint, the ambiance is nice and lively but not too loud. The food was so good. I had the French Toast and Chicken and my friend had the Koko Pasta Flatbread with Jerk Chicken. Both dishes were filling and tasty. The rum syrup/sauce that came with was so good. The drinks are also good and strong. I enjoyed the Sop Thyme drink, it was very refreshing. I will more than likely come back to try their dinner menu or explore more of the brunch menu. The staff was also friendly and our orders came out In a timely manner. read more

Got the Carribean bowl sonce I wanted to try things i havent had before like callaloo and ackee and saltfish. Havent really had Carribean food before so not sure if it's supposed to be like that but the boiled dumpling was super hard and flavorless. The whole dish was pretty flavorless except for the ackee and saltfish which was quite yummy. But $35 seems overpriced. My friends got other dishes like the chicken and waffles which they enjoyed. If you want to do the bottomless brunch option then your whole table needs to get it so we opted not to. Believe it or not, we actually picked Kokomo based on all the positive Yelp reviews, and, I gotta say, it definitely held its own. The vibe is lively and the energy in the room makes it a great spot for a night out. The waiter was friendly (wish I remembered her name to shout her out). We started by splitting the jerk infused wings, which had a solid kick without being overpowering. For my main, I wasn't going to come to a West Indian spot and not have the oxtail. It was tender, rich, and fell right off the bone. We finished with the pumpkin cheesecake, which was a really nice way to end the meal. The drinks were also a highlight. I switched between the Painkiller (classic Caribbean rum vibes, very smooth) and the Berry and Bright, which was a nice contrast with the whiskey and blackberry. Will definitely return. I've been here before, but this time was terrible. We came the day after thanksgiving for brunch. I opted for the bottomless option. The mimosas were watered down and the waiter was slow. Without warning, he told us that the bartender was leaving so I wouldn't be able to order mimosas anymore. I said could I at least get a few mimosas and he told me he could only give me 2. If they knew the bartender was leaving, I should've at least gotten a carafe. My food almost took forever. Thank God we got apps. We got the jerk pasta balls. When my food finally came out after an hour, it was just okay. I got the chicken & French toast. The French toast was tasty and sweet, but it was barely hot.
