The chicken was good but fried too crispy. My friend had the bake and salt fish which she liked. No-mojito Spritz was good for a non-alcohol option. This time around I ordered the eggs with Nutella French toast which was good. Eggs were made well and fresh. Only hiccup is they forgot the Nutella drizzle and I had to do it myself with two little packs of Nutella; my waitress Nyah was cool so I let it go. My friend had the Calamari with sweet chili dipping sace: Calamari was fried well with good flavor. She also had I belive the Honey Cajun wings which were fresh and not frozen also fried well and flavorful. The potatoes which were supposed to be fries I didnt try. What did it for me was the Blue Caviar mimosa! I haven't seen anything like it and I was intrigued. Bonus points for the popping Boba on the bottom. I also tried the peach and the mango bèllinis and all were good. The Dj will bring it all the time and have you getting out of your seat even if you want to be stush. Whether it's brunch, dinner, or just relaxing at the bar, it's always a vibe. The music is loud but there's outside seating. I really wanted to gatekeep this spot but I don't want to be selfish. I swore I made a Savvy Bistro & Bar review but I guess I didn't. I stopped in on a recent Friday night ducking the action of a very wild, very sudden thunderstorm around 7PM. Savvy was open and waiting and very welcoming. I left my umbrella at the front and got seated right away. The mood inside was nice and dark- just candles on each table and low lighting. Loved it. A few people were watching the World Cup Soccer finals and the DJ was warming up. I ordered a cocktail so nice that I had to have it twice. I have only been to Savvy for a bar crawl, so this was my first dining experience there. I ordered coconut shrimp with very little expectations for flavor. I just wanted something to munch on with my drinks. These turned out to be the best tasting coconut shrimp I ever had. Perfectly crispy outside, tender inside and no coconut overkill. I should have had another order of the shrimp instead of the jerk chicken tacos I ordered next. The tacos were bland and the chicken was a bit tough. The rest of my time there was a hit. The DJ did his thing! Great mix of Hip Hop, R&B, Soca and Dancehall. I sat sipping my cocktail and enjoying the vibe. The staff is really warm and they treated me well. Savvy Bistro is really close to home. I'll definitely be there more often. They have hookah but I skipped it because it's pricey. Too bad because I really enjoy hookah. Gratuity is added automatically, however bartenders don't tell you, just give you the total to swipe for card payment, had another guest not informed me I would've double tipped. The stools were a little rough, but we were able to switch to the chairs next to us after about 45 minutes. The service was extremely prompt. Within just a few minutes of sitting someone came by to greet us and take our orders. I had the Nutella French Toast, which comes with eggs with peppers. I added an order of grits. Another had the same exact order but with bacon. My other friend had chicken and waffles. I thought the French toast was just okay. However, the grits and eggs were great, along with the home fries. I thought the service was excellent and since we all did the bottomless mimosas, for the extra $30 each. A few friends and I randomly stumbled upon this spot while in the area looking for a bite. Upon entering, the space was lively and cozy with a lounge feel. It turns out that it's a hookah lounge, which we got. They have a variety of flavors, but we opted for Watermelon Mint, which was $30 for happy hour pricing. The food is very good. You get great portions for flavorful meals at a great price. Took a chance on the catfish bites and they were splendid, surprised at how many were given. Ordered the Burger and it was prolly one of the best burgers i've had in a very long time. The service was friendly alll the waitresses were nice and welcoming. The ambience was nice they had live music, showed basketball games and even had a mic'd up sax player. As someone who has been enjoying hookah long before it became trendy, I've tried it in various places across NYC, the U.S., and even internationally. One of my biggest pet peeves is being charged for a coal change after already purchasing the hookah--it makes no sense. * Overpriced Menu Items & Misleading Atmosphere - While "bistro" is in the name, this place feels more like a lounge. The music is extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation unless you're right next to the person. People were getting up and dancing in the small space, reinforcing the lounge vibe. * Fried Deviled Eggs - I had never tried fried deviled eggs before and figured I'd give them a shot--big mistake. Whoever said, "everything tastes better fried" lied! Frying changed the texture, making it tough instead of just crispy. I took one bite and left the rest. They serve three eggs, cut in half, but it wasn't worth it. * Uninformed Server - The menu states, "Ask about our daily bartender specials," so we did. The server's response? "What specials? Let me see." Smh. You'd think the manager would brief the staff before their shift so they're aware of any specials, but there weren't any. * Mandatory 18% Gratuity for Parties of 2 or More - This is absolutely ridiculous. Automatically charging gratuity for parties of four or more? Fine. But for two? That's pure greed. The shrimp were a little over seasoned but mixed in with the grits they were great and I asked for the adjustment so that's on me, but I think they should add in the fried option moving forward and just adjust the ingredients because it was the perfect texture and cooked well. The catfish comes with a side of pepper sauce. Very yummy. We sat outside because the inside was completely booked. It was a complete Sunday brunch vibe with a DJ. They should call this sleep in a bowl because I swear the grits are so creamy and smooth; you can't help but devour them. By far my fave entree! I gotta a margarita, and 2 cranberry and vodkas, all were made well. It was game night Tuesday so the bartender and I were playing uno, another customer joined in, this place has a very friendly atmosphere. The jerk chicken spring rolls are always great, filled with seasoned jerk chicken paired with their jerk aioli sauce yummmm. During late hours, I've tried small bites such as the jerk chicken spring rolls and bbq beef bao buns which are steamed and delicious! This time around, I tried some new items such as the vegan chili which is made with vegan meat. The flavor profile is amazing. Right balance of spice and salt. I'm not a vegan meat person, but this was good. The stuffed chicken is phenomenal and the stuffed fish!!!! Oh my goodness anything with sweet plantain already wins. I don't remember the names of the drinks I tried but there was one similar to a hot toddy which receives honorable mention. Not to many caribbean restaurants offer this and this grandma loves a bit option in the winter. My favorite was the drink served in a glass shaped like a bird with cotton candy surrounding it. Sweet but not overly sweet with the right kick from the alcohol. Menu is extensive and has a nice balance of caribbean fusion dishes as well as enough vegan entrees. They also seem to specialize in cocktails. I was blown away by the options presented as well as the long list of other options available. I really want to try brunch so I'll be back soon.
