Went to Savannah Spiced to celebrate my youngest daughter's birthday the other day and had a great time. The food, the service and ambiance were really good (on a Monday night!) It wasn't super busy, but I believe the staff on hand are always attentive, pleasant and welcoming. The food is Trini-Guyanese inspired and delicious. My daughter and ex ordered the oxtail dinner, which they very much enjoyed. I had a little taste and very much enjoyed the flavors. The portion was good and filling. I ordered the Jab Jab pasta with shrimp and was very happy that it wasn't dry. The spice in the cream sauce was slight but good. I was very hungry, so I sadly did not have a to-go plate. To demonstrate the high level of attentiveness from the staff, we never announced that we were celebrating a birthday, but they came out with a slice of yummy cheesecake (and I don't like cheesecake) for my baby girl. I came in last weekend on a Saturday pretty late. It is a caribbean restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and it feels like made to order because it did take a long time for our food to be served. I also think they were short staffed so it took a while for someone to come over to take our order. I really liked the food and the drinks were really sweet which I love. The restaurant is imitate. I went here to celebrate my cousin's birthday. The inside was dimmly lit and had a full house. Nice music playing in the background. The drinks were on point. It wasnt on the menu but I had a Hennessey and Sorrel. It was pretty good. I only ordered a corn soup because I ate prior to my arrival. The corn soup was delicious! It was not lacking in the flavor department. I've had many corn soups throughout the years and if you are familar with Bird's corn soup back in the days..Circa 2010 - 2014' after a fete.. I visited last night. 8pm reservation, was seated at 8:30. Waited two hrs to get appetizers. All the food I/we went for was unavailable: corn soup, crab and dumplings, phouloorie, and another entree we asked for. No pina coladas at the bar. The woman who was supposed to serve us (we heard another server telling her we had been waiting to give our orders) decided to serve the couple and their daughter seated next to us instead, presumably, because she knows them. A few times that server, who arrived an hour after we did, danced at the couple's table and gave hugs to them. That's fine but to do this knowing we were waiting for she or someone to take our orders was too much. When the food finally arrived, the oxtails were too sweet! The oxtail mac and cheese was also too sweet. The rice and peas were dry and hard, almost raw, but definitely unpalatable, as if the chef rushed to cook it because they were short-staffed in the kitchen, we heard. The shrimp was overcooked and dry. Our server kept repeating, "Don't blame me", as if that helped ease my displeasure. I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant in YEARS! I could not enjoy the meagre portions of food I did get when my meal finally arrived after 10 pm. That is unacceptable. I have enjoyed this place in the past but the standards in the kitchen and service have declined drastically; and for the price, it was a total waste of my time and money. We had a first-time guest with us and I was embarrassed at the display of unprofessionalism and poor quality of food we experienced last night. We should have left after waiting more than 30 mins for someone to even take our orders. You all need to get your acts together, because - never again! read more

The decor is cute and the staff is very friendly. You can make reservations on Open Table. Parking may be difficult but this location is very accessible via public transportation. My friend and I both enjoyed our drinks. I had the Sorrel Colada and I appreciate that it came with an additional shot of rum. My friend had the Moko Jumbie drink and she really enjoyed it. It came in a really cute slanted glass. The appetizers were my favorite part. We ordered the Mango Chow and Oxtail Plantain cups. Both were absolutely delicious and I'd order them both again in a heartbeat. I found the entrees to be just okay. There was nothing wrong with them but they weren't spectacular to make me want to come back and order them again. I ordered the Calypso Shrimp with mashed potatoes. The shrimp were seasoned and the mashed potatoes were good. I just wish they came with a gravy or butter sauce since they were dry. I tried my friends jerk chicken meal and it was nicely seasoned. They were very surprised by this and didn't seem to know about the reservation. The waitress seemed bothered by having to serve so many people, even though the restaurant was empty. When we arrived there were only 5-6 people there. The waitress clearly needs more training in hospitality. And an attitude adjustment. Overall we had a great time and will go back. I really wanted to love this restaurant and was excited to visit for date night but a few things occurred that stopped me from giving a 5 star rating. My reservation was on Saturday August 12th at 8:30pm, my boyfriend and I arrived on time and upon entering the establishment we were greeted by the hostess who asked us if we wanted to be seated inside or outside in the back area, although inside was lively it was a nice night so we decided to dine outside. The outside area was a decent size and they also had a speaker outside playing nice soca tunes. After being seated it took about 10 minutes or so before our waitress came to our table to take our order or offer us a glass of water. I ordered the Seafood lobster and shrimp medley and my bf got the Salmon Trini delight, we also ordered the Mac and cheese with oxtails to share. To drink we ordered a mango mojito and he got a shot of jack. There was a table with 2 friendly women sitting next to us one of which pointed out that my boyfriends chair was broken, no biggie he just did a quick game of musical chairs and swapped out the broken chair for a more sturdy one, they went on to tell us that they were waiting awhile for their food and when their food came they weren't given utensils, my boyfriend and I both came on empty stomachs so we hoped that our food would be out in a decent amount of time. An incident happened in the back that the staff was made aware of and all the patrons including myself and boyfriend had to go indoors. At that time I wanted to leave but we had already been waiting so we decided to sit at the bar instead. When our food came out, unfortunately it was cold to the point I couldn't even enjoy it my boyfriends food was cold as well not to mention the oxtail mac and cheese barely had any oxtail meat, it had more of the oxtail fat in it. We only saw our waitress 1 time for the night and that was when she took our order she never came back to check on us or anything. This place was pretty cute walking in! They had walls of greenery that would have made for great photo opportunities, but the dark lighting didn't make the food pictures turn out the best. The food was phenomenal. We all basically inhaled it all. The oxtails were flavorful and fall off the bone tender. The service was subpar. It was difficult for the servers (we didn't have just one) to keep our water glasses full,we had to leave the table to ask for someone to grab our check for us etc. They were kind when I got up to ask for help,they just weren't attentive at all. After receiving the bill, I noticed that an 18% gratuity was added, which explains why they didn't give us the best service since they knew they would be getting a nice tip anyway. So since I last post I went back to Savannah Cafe with a group and we ate!!! Let me tell youuuuu EVERY SINGLE DISH had use speechless! The food is beyond words..... this is true Trini and Grenadian soul food. Lots of flavour, spice, fresh ingredients, hot and beautiful! You must try those plantain oxtail cups. We were a large group but the wait time was short, the servers were pleasant as always and the owners also came over and had a drink with us. It's a really nice place. I love that there's an outdoor area. That's where my friends and I sat. The waiter was also very nice and gave great recommendations. One of my best friends got the Sunday special stew chicken and loved it. Really good potato salad which doesn't happen often. I loved the pasta with shrimp that my other best friend got. I got shrimp with the mashed potatoes and I thought the mashed potatoes were dry. I also enjoyed my drink. There's a space to take photos, like a grass wall with some flowers. I ordered the oxtails as my main dish, let me tell you something it was soft and seasoned perfectly, this is a must. The potato salad was whatever to me, it needed more Mayo and it season. The Mac and cheese was just ok, I've had better. I ordered a mango mojito, the liquor was strong, so they give you your money's worth. We got there on a Friday night and the size of the place...I would call it "cozy". The whole ambiance had a romantic & island feel to it. We thought we were going to order a few items. NOPE...this is what we got: Food: Savannah corn soup (Man oh man it was like my late mom's soup...not watery...it was thick and creamy and made out of love), passion fruit spice wings (got a nice peppery kick to it!), curried coconut crab (it was tasty, but we were trying not to get curry on our clothes), Salmon TRINI Delight (Guava infused salmon with garlic potatoes) and THE BEST Oxtail spiced tacos we have ever tasted..it came with caribbean salsa, mango slaw with a calypso drizzle. I ordered a corn soup as an app and it was surprisingly good. For the main course I ordered the Sunday dinner option. It was stewed chicken, macaroni pie, rice n peas, potato salad and callaloo. The meal was really good however the stew chicken had a flavor of bay leaves and or basil which I had to say was an unusual twist that I was not accustomed to but still good. Its dark decor and soca music gave me a party vibe (maybe it was the old people chippin in and out of the place too) they were having a get together in the back and so there were kids throughout the place dancing, older men standing around drinking .... I threw my friend a Bridal shower on May 10th and Mr. Glenn the Manager, Hostesses and servers were professional and friendly (Thanks Angie) helped me from the day I started until we left out the building. When I tell you this food was so good! We got the tamarind steak with lobster and the seafood melody with salmon and lobster. The portions were large and filled us up. Flavor was all the way there and my steak was cooked perfect. Drinks were good and strong as well and we spent about $170 for 2 of us Service wasn't bad for a late night (we got there at 10) and the playlist they had was great. Having heard great things about this location, my expectations were high. However, I left feeling disappointed with a few things which I've outlined below. Upon arrival, our group was promptly seated. We opted for the outdoor setting since it would have been ideal for the weather. It would have been nice to have someone positioned at the entrance to greet you as you enter. I didn't feel having a reservation or not made a big difference since no one verified this information. Location: the area in which the restaurant is located seemed very decent and a number of parking options seemed available. Music and Atmosphere: the live DJ was a great touch. Listening to the sound of Caribbean music definitely added to the experience. Seating was tight! Maybe it was the location we chose. It was impossible not to hear the conversation that was happening at the other tables around. Not much space for "dancing" as advertised unless there are specific nights when a dedicated area is created. Food and Drinks: the menu was simple and easy to read. Having too many options can be overwhelming so this was appreciated. Our drink orders were taken within a few minutes of being seated and the food was taken a few minutes later. It would have been nice to offer a glass of water once seated. It would have been nice to see the ingredients in the cocktails. Typically, all appetizers are served at the same time. This was not the case. People at our table had to wait whilst others ate. Tip: some of the items can be a shared appetizer if you have an intimately-sized group. The food was well presented, but lacked some flavors. Service and staff: We were there on a Friday night after 8pm. The staff was great, but they seemed busy.
