Came here with a friend before we went to the Barclays. This was my 2nd time here and it didn't disappoint. We were quickly seated to a table without a reservation. Service was fairly quick here. Everything we ordered came quick. As for the restaurant itself, it was a fun establishment. There was music playing and it created a fun atmosphere. Phenomenal date night location. However I do wish they could turn it down a little bit. I had to speak over the music to chat with my friend. The location is also great for a date night. Especially for an event at the Barclays. As for the food. My friend was really impressed and loved it. I'll admit, I wasn't as impressed but I still loved the food. My only complaint was portion size. I've had this same plate from other restaurants that offered a bigger portion at the same price. The ox tails came out great at least. The meat fell right off the bone. The gravy was superb. Everything else on the plate was delicious as well. Again, my only complaint is portion size. That said, I would absolutely come back here again. There's some things on menu that I have my eye on. While I enjoyed the ox tails, I think I'd get it from somewhere else. Although I wouldn't be against coming back for seconds. read more

I want to love this place but this ain't it. The food is mid, some items are better than others. The oxtail was good but rice was bland and veggies just steamed with no seasonings. The oxtail itself was good but some pieces tasted like they didn't even touch the stew. My friend ordered the jerk wings which were decent but nothing outstanding. The drinks were HORRIBLE. I got the rum punch and my friend got the Bajan rum punch. My drink was sour and yellow. I've never seen a yellow rum punch. I had to ask for grenadine to give it some kind of sweetness. It still didn't help. Waste of $14. My friend's Bajan rum punch was nothing like an actual Bajan Rum Punch. After having just come back from Barbados, I can genuinely say the Bajan rum punch was not a Bajan rum punch and also pretty bad. Very very disappointing. I should have known better when our sever was also the bartender. My friend was more bold than I was and decided to get another drink, the frozen rum punch which he said was definitely better than the other drinks. But that's not saying much. The ambiance is okay. Very chill and relaxed. They had a projector in the dining room broadcasting one of the NBA playoff games which I was interested in. If you're on the fence about coming here, don't. It's nothing special and that's very unfortunate because I like to support black owned or partially black owned businesses. They have some work to do because there is potential but the food and drinks is just mid. read more

This was our first time at BK9. We love the food and the service was fast and friendly. I love trying new beers and the waiter recommended a couple of options and i like bothe of them. The place is big and it wasn't very crowded for Friday. My favorite dish was the curry cauliflower. I also love their jerk chicken. My bf really liked his oxtails. The place had a party booked the place got loud towards the end our our meal. Overall we will be back read more

It's just OK. The food was again just Ok. We had the salmon which was burnt - the cabbage lacked flavor - the rice and peas just ok. My aunt had the oxtails which she enjoyed so I would recommend you get that. We also had the oxtails empanada which is not featured here. The ambiance is nothing to speak of. The drinks were the best part of the evening. However, you should know that we were charged $20 for a pineapple margarita - that's insanity This is not my first time here but there are great spots to eat all around and this is blah. Ps this is a Haitian and Jamaican restaurant. The server Denise was really terrific . Should I return here I'll sit at the bar and get drinks maybe Ps The table next to us returned their order of snapper. read more

Joined a large group for brunch so they gave us the back room which is bright and well decorated with original artwork that is also for sale. The service was great for a 13 person table. The 1 misstep was so minor it made no dent in our experience. I tasted a bit of everything and will say the oxtails empanadas and the mussels were my FAVORITES. The seasoning was just right and tasted authentic to the regional foods. I thought the pork grip could've been fried a bit more but the vinegary flavor was just right. Oh- how could I forget that pepper shrimp!?? I wish they would serve the veggies from the dish as a side. Talk about flavor and the right amount of heat!!! We also met one of the owners. He was so gracious and welcoming I'm looking forward to going again. read more

We picked the nearest restaurant on the map because it started randomly pouring down raining and they didn't disappoint. Jerricka, our server, was welcoming and informative from the moment we sat down. She suggested the rude boy frozen drink and after one sip, I knew I could trust her with recs. We got the burger, my brother said it was amazing, the jerk chicken plate and Mac. The jerk was ok, but that Mac. YES, YES!!! I would go back just got that read more

Been back many a time last night have family in town after catching nets almost pull one out vs celts. Place was backed but they always try to accommodate and give it to you straight on the wait. Meal was great as usual. Wings: on point, fan favorites. Peppa shrimp: right amount of spice and veggies cooked to perfection. Red snappa: crisp outside tender inside and sauce just the right compliment. Diri djon djon: they need to sell in the grocery stores . Everyone loved it. Order it as your side . Great to see ownership still together and making it happen at high level. Reserve ahead and prepare for a great meal/time read more

The service wasn't very welcoming at first, but it did improve as time went on. Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. The steak looked gray and didn't taste good--honestly, it reminded me more of pork chops. The oxtail also didn't taste like traditional oxtail; it had more of a shredded beef taste. On a positive note, the potatoes and eggs were good. Another downside was that more than half of the items on the menu weren't available, which really limited our options. Overall, the experience was mixed, but the lack of menu availability and food quality would make me hesitant to return. read more

Solid Caribbean food spot. I usually find myself here after a concert at the Barclay Center or before it mainly has Jamaican Haitian and Trinidad and cuisine, but you can see elements from all parts of the Caribbean. I would write most of their dishes at 7.5 out of 10 . drinks are usually on the weaker end. This place is usually pack so I find service to be somewhat slow but the food taste good so I find myself coming back here. read more

Vibes, Flavor, and Outstanding Service! We came to BK9 for an after-work celebration, and it was everything we hoped for. The vibe was relaxed, the service was top-tier (huge shoutout to our attentive and friendly server), and the food? So good. I had the whole red snapper--crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. My friend had the salmon with okra, and others at the table raved about their chicken, scallops, and strong, well-made drinks. BK9 is Black-owned, and it shows in the pride they take in service and hospitality. We'll definitely be back! read more

Stumbled across this place after an event at the Barclays. It was around 1 am and the place was still serving up food so in we went. The customer service was great from the time we were seated to the time we left. For appetizers we ordered mussels, jerk chicken and oxtail empanadas and pepper shrimp. All the apps were tasty, picture perfect and satisfying. Main course we had fried snapper which was flavorful, crispy and cooked just right. Oxtail which were good and tasty as well. The rice was perfectly cooked. Finally, the pork griot. The reason for only 3 stars is this dish. It single handely ruined my night. It was nothing but overbearing citrus flavor from the pork to the sauce to the veggies. I thought I'd take it home and try and doctor it up, but there was no saving it unfortunately. read more

Came here to eat with two other friends, food was okay. Service was fine but definitely not good enough for them to automatically add a 20% tip without letting us know. Came here on a Saturday evening before a concert. Unfortunately, due to our commute, we missed our reservation. We had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes for an available table. This place is quaint and very conveniently located with street parking. Due to our limited time, we ordered drinks and appetizers only. I ordered the rum punch. It was just okay. I also ordered empanadas, which was okay as well. Friend ordered callaloo and didn't care for it. I would try this place again and order an entree for a full assessment. Service was good. read more

We hosted a mini class reunion at BK9 and was impressed with the level of service we received. Nice Caribbean lounge right by the Barclays Center. On the way to dinner my friends and I walked by this place and there was a line forming outside the door. We decided to pop in after the concert we were there to attend. I thought it was just a small bar, but it's actually a full service restaurant with a good number of tables and extra space in the back near an open-air kitchen. We were lucky enough to grab three seats at the bar. This was a Friday night and there was a DJ playing a lot of Caribbean and Afro beats music. He eventually played a little hip-hop when I asked. The bartender Freddie was awesome (forgive me if that's the wrong name). He was efficient and friendly, taking several drink orders at a time and making them pretty quickly. Three mixed drinks totalled over $100 which is insane lol, but I guess it's NYC. We stayed for a while as this place was a great vibe. Definitely more of a 30 and up crowd, which I appreciated. Eventually we ordered some jerk wings and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were pretty basic and unexciting. However, the jerk wings were fire! The seasoning was pretty spicy but the flavor was so good. They came with some sort of cilantro lime sauce which was perfect for cooling. I also loved that the kitchen was open late. Great spot for a chill night out in NYC. It was the perfect place to go post concert to continue the fun, while not doing too much. read more

The Djon Djon and pikliz hits every time. Drinks are flavorful and get the job done. Service is cool.

This is by far one of my favorite Carribean restaurants in Brooklyn! The oxtail and rice and peas are so good. The drinks are strong and flavorful. My favorite is the Drunken Lust (if you want to get knocked out by the end of the night, that is the go-to.) The plantains are cooked to perfection, served with a delicious cilantro sauce. I went several times -- during the Holiday season and 3 times casually -- I can say that the setting is nice. The dining area is clean -- tables and cutlery are clean. However, I would say that the space between tables is small. The restaurant can feel crowded at times, even if there aren't many people there. The music is great~ but the service time could be better. I had to wait for quite some time before the appetizers arrived. Overall, great experience. read more

The service from start to finish was top tier! We felt welcomed and were guided through menu options before settling. We met the owners and were given a guided tour and history and how this establishment originated. You felt the culture and connectedness of them and the restaurant. They want to uplift the community and offer game nights and opportunities to rent the space. Now let's dive into the most important part the FOOD!!!! The curry mussels were tasty. Each mussel was filled for a nice portion size. They had a unique flavor. My first time having curry mussels. Now let's dive into this showstopper the jerk salmon! It was off the chain. If I could have this once a week I would. There was enough to take home but it was so good I could not help myself! There were a lot of alcohol free options for those sub staining but I had rum punch. It hit the spot and was strong just how I like it. I kept it to a 2 drink minimum. Looking forward to adding this location to my monthly rotation! read more

Went out to eat with friends and dined here for the first time on 11/22/25. The drinks, our server, and vibes were good. The food on other hand not so much.... considering I ended up in Brookdale hospital the next day with horrible food poisoning. Which I blame on the Snapper, since no one else had it and I was the only one shooting it out from both ends for hours. Needless to say, after 6 hours in the hospital and 2 days out sick from work I am permanently scared and will never be back. 1 star for the staff and vibes. read more

So me and my friends decided to pull up and do our annual Bros' Brunch at BK9. Due to the Holiday weekend (After Christmas) the place was pleasantly not packed. We had full attention from the Bartender and our server, Rosie (Big Ups to her!) I had 2 Hot Toddies, that warmed my soul and help fight off the evil hangover spirits from the day before . The food was delicious. They had their own Caribbean spin on every regular/schmegular typical brunch food one usually gets. I enjoyed my haitian breakfast (see attached photo). I love Bk9 for a few reasons. I love supporting local businesses. Y'all know I'm here to uplift and highlight BIPOC establishments. This is Black-owned! Also, I like the bartenders and the food is Caribbean so there's a nice variety and good flavor. I usually come here for a monthly comedy show in the basement. 3.5. I had solid experience here for an Easter brunch here. I walked in, without a reservation, but was seated almost immediately. The live jazz playing in the background was a ice touch, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Onto the food-- we collectively ordered the below: Steak and Eggs-- 3/5- my steak was okay but very fatty, so I was unable to eat much. The eggs were good. The potatoes were okay. Shrimp and Grits Breakfast Potatoes Eggs Bacon Chocolate Cake Cheesecake- 4.5/5. Very good The items above without a ranking is because they weren't mine. Although eggs and potatoes did come with my meal. Also, I got a little carried away with my bottomless mimosas and got a little sleepy. One issue I did have was when the bill came I noticed I was charged $25 bucks, but the menu said $20. When I went to inquire, I was told the price changed post covid and now it's $25 for 60 minutes instead of $20 for 75 minutes-- I don't believe this is a good practice, whatsoever. Also, the tip was automatically included, another practice I'm not a fan of. Often times the service is bad when businesses do, but fortunately, that wasn't the case here. I would return here, potentially, in the future. My server was extremely attentive and the food was decent. read more

I've been hearing about this restaurant for ages now and finally made my way there on a Saturday night. It was JUMPING! There also happened to be a block party taking place at the same time which was a nice touch. People were trickling into BK9 from outside and before you knew it, there was a full house! The staff at BK9 was very attentive and hospitable! That was the highlight for me. My drinks were flowing all night long and I wasn't mad at it! After a while, I figured I better get something in my system before I got too wavy, so I ordered a side order of French fries. They were perfect and came with a cilantro mayo which was so damn good! I'd go back for the condiment alone! The drink I had all night was the BK9 Rum Punch, which consisted of silver rum, mango juice and a hint of fresh lime juice. Couldn't ask for a simpler, yet tastier drink! Can't wait to be back! I'll be sure to bring lots more friends! read more

I've been wanting to try this little spot for awhile because my Brooklyn circle of friends have mentioned how good it is numerous times. I finally had the opportunity to go for an early dinner with a good friend. I liked the interior decor and the the atmosphere was warm and cozy. At first I was thinking about ordering the Pork Griot, but my friend decided to get that, so I changed to the oxtail. I also decided to go with oxtail because I don't normally have that and I thought the $22 price tag was quite reasonable. The dish came with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains. This was plated nicely with a purple Hawaiian flower on top. There was quite a bit of bone-in oxtail, covered in dark, savory sauce full of flavor. The oxtail was melt in your mouth tender - so much so that the meat didn't even need a knife! The meat was also incredibly juicy, as well as succulent. I also enjoyed the rice and peas, which was wonderfully well seasoned and hearty. The cabbage was cooked with carrots and red peppers. The veggies tasted fresh and were slightly crunchy, while still being soft. The plantains were crisp and really yummy! I got to try a little of the Pork Griot, which was marinated in sour orange sauce. This which was delightfully flavorful with a nice balance of spices. The pork had a perfect consistency, as well as a slightly crispy exterior. The service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and everything came out in a timely manner. I would definitely like to return to try the Whole Crispy Snapper and Berkshire Pork Chop. Oh, and the molten chocolate cake, which is one of my favorite desserts. read more

This will be my first time coming to BK9. I've heard great things about their music and DJ's on a Friday's. Unfortunately, we could only reserve 15 seats in the cellar basement for a Saturday. Upon entry we all had to show our vaccination proof as well as wait an additional 30 mins because the set up was on the main floor next to the bar and right behind the DJ's back. My cousin wanted to celebrate her "34th" birthday in the basement. The manager apologized and had the set up ready for her as requested. It took sometime, but she was still happy. The cellar is very cold and they only had two space heaters available, which didn't help much, but we truly made the best of it. We only had one waitress to take drink and food orders and she was the boss. She didn't miss a beat. She started by taking our names and then putting our orders under each name - SMART! Per my girlfriends the wings were good, but salty and the mussels were spicy, but delicious, the birthday girl loved her order of mussels and salmon dinner, and it was unanimous the bbq wings were too salty for some peoples liking. As for me the jerk chicken empanadas were great and the oxtails were just okay, but not better than other places we've visited. The empanadas were not too spicy and the crust was crunchy and perfect. The seafood orders were good. The only issue I had was with my drink. I wish the bartender took his time with it. Three of us ordered the same drink and all three tasted different to each other. Some said the liquor was only on the top and watered down. I agree - the champagne was also not that great. They put strawberries in it which threw off the taste a lot. As for the female DJ - she made an announcement that if you have a song request you have to tip her. We all said in unison "Get Out of Here". She wasn't that great to begin with. She played music to her liking it seemed, but she played a little of everything. Will I be back? Yes, but only for group events. read more

Came here for brunch and a lot of renovations have been done since the last time I was here pre-covid. I like how the space looks. I opted for the Banana Rum Coconut Waffels which can use more Bananas and rum sauce; I also added fried chicken on the side-banging chicken really good, well seasoned. My friend had the bk9 burger and she said, it was very good. The frozen rum punch is A1; just the right amount of alcohol to keep you from a KO; the kid who made it did a good job. Joel the bartender is great and very personable, he did a good job. It is Jazz brunch on the weekends and after music is played. They have space downstairs for events and I think they should also use it for socializing if customers don't want to stay upstairs. The staff is super friendly here. Jerika and Jasmine are sweethearts. They serve free watermelon I guess when it's hot out and in season. A treat! The mimosas are nice and strong. Some days BK9 has live jazz. Bf really wanted shrimp and grits this day and it was the only place we found that had availability last minute. We appreciated that. I didn't know what to expect of the oxtail hash, it wasn't quite what I imagined in my head, but it was still not bad nevertheless. I think I was expecting actually oxtail in bone. My eggs were also overcooked, but I didn't make a big deal out of it. I was hungry. Would I order the oxtail hash again? Probably not. Maybe I'll just stick to my usual eggs benedict. Bf's shrimp and grits had good flavor. Shrimps were cooked to his liking. I found the grits to be a little.. maybe it was cooling down too long because it was congealed a bit. But the plate was cleaned. Would still come back, maybe for other dishes. read more

Most uncomfortable experience ever. Food was great and vibes were initially good until a visibly inebriated man approached our table. As two women, we were noticeably uncomfortable as he continuously said we looked like sisters, told us we were family and asked for more information. Our server didn't do a thing to check up on us or make sure we were safe, instead he brought the check and added an automatic 20% gratuity because he was the only one working. While that would've been fine prior, he did nothing about the uncomfortable situation and only checked in when we were ready to pay. I was really excited to come here because I heard a lot of good things about that place, especially from reviews here on Google but I was disappointed unfortunately. I don't think they are well-equipped for good crowds which is definitely not good for business right now. Then when I was finally seated, it took forever to put in my order and way too long to receive the food. And one of my plates was drastically cold. Had the oxtail and hanger steak. Working on Atlantic avenue, I've been here so many times - lunch, dinner, after work drinks you name it lol. I am shocked I haven't written a review by now. Nonetheless, what keeps me coming back is the consistency in the food. I know that whatever I order I am going to enjoy. On this particular visit, I came on Cinco de Mayo and they had specials for the day. I love fish tacos and so I had to go with that option. The tacos were good as expected, but the STAR of the show for me is always gonna be the rum raisin cake. I don't know what it is but its so good to me.
