Stopped in for a quick bite while I was on Flatbush. While here I had the jerk bbq wings. They were sweet, sticky and spicy. Very tender and deelish. A nice serving size for the price. I came to this bar to watch the Knicks win game 5 (We the CHAMPS) they have two tv's. I ordered the Salmon comes with sautéed cabbage and plantains on the bottom. The jerk salmon was cooked perfectly the interior was pink and it was very flavorful cook perfectly the jerk spices was everything you expect for an authentic Caribbean restaurant. Cabbage was delicious had a sweet taste but you can also taste the spices. The plantains were sweet so you have the spice from the salmon then you got the sweetness from the plantains this was worth ($28). I got a side of rice and peas ($6) that was delicious which is a caribbean stable when done right you fell in love every time. My drink was a rum punch. Rum punch tasted like I was on a tropical island all I needed was a palm tree above me. The drink was strong you won't be wasting your money. The restaurant has two bars with seating. I recommend coming to this restaurant and checking out the food/drink. The vibes are fire also good music playing. The service was fast for food and drinks. I just tried this restaurant for the first time for brunch with a friend yesterday after walking by for months! I was so glad we finally stopped in. The restaurant itself was nice, clean, and overall a pleasant space to sit and talk with my friend. Also our waitress was really friendly and answered our questions! I ordered a guava rosemary fizz mocktail ($9) which was really pleasant and not too sweet, which I loved! For my meal I got the jerk fish tacos ($14), which were overall very tasty. The tortilla is made with beets and has a deep purple color, the fish is salmon and seasoned super well with jerk seasoning and cooked to perfection, each taco is topped with a big scoop of guacamole, pickled cabbage, and chipotle aioli. Overall I loved the fish, it was delicious, and all of the ingredients of the taco were really tasty. I would say my only complaint is that it was sort of awkward to eat because the taco was overly stuffed, and a lot of the ingredients fell out when you ate them. It's definitely one of those things that's not an actual problem though, because they're so generous with what they give you! Overall, I will definitely go back and try other menu items. My friend ordered the quad mac, which is a mac and cheese with 4 types of cheese, and it was lovely. It's served broiled on the top and was really tasty, and she loved it. read more

The deal is pretty good 1.5 hrs you can do unlimited drinks, however it was only 1 server/ bartender and she was doing her best. It wasnt that busy in there. The food was eh ..I got the fish tacos they used salmon that was unique from the usual cod or fried white fish. It just needed a bit of salt to add some flavor. Then my friend got an order of wings. They took extremely long to come out and we were 1 of 2 tables here at the time. Whom I assumed was the manager (he didnt introduce himself )went ahead and comped the wings. I came here for brunch after the Brooklyn half and it was ok. We made a reservation but they said there was no reservation and did not want to honor it even though we showed our proof. Also the drinks were ok but I don't know if I would come back. The place is nice and the waitress was nice and it was full. The service was slow. Mangoseed is located in the back of a bicycle store, real speakeasy vibes! It's quite a small, intimate space. I wasn't too big of a fan of the decor, but the general vibes were there. Thursday night is karaoke night so it was very entertaining listening to that during the meal. Service was great! Our server was very helpful, especially because a member of my party was vegetarian, she helped a lot with picking out what would be good for her. We started off with splitting the Mac and cheese which I think was pretty good. I had the fried chicken and waffles for my entree. I have to admit, I was feeling a little under the weather and was probably not hungry enough to eat this, but I can say it was pretty tasty. Chicken has great flavour. That waffle is THICK! But so good. They do top it with banana and cream, but I really do wish they'd put more. Mangoseed has reopened. I went for dinner and truly enjoyed the food. If you remember MangoSeed, they are back. Not in the same location but close. They took over the old Zurilee location. (Remember their oxtail pizza?) You have to enter the Burrow Brothers Bike Shop in order to visit MangoSeed. Once you do, you'll be in for a treat. Presentation, portion size, taste and soundtrack all on point. We tried the following: Jerk Salmon Tacos with homemade beet tortilla guac, pickled cabbage and chipotle aioli Braised Oxtail with rice & peas, and sautéed spinach Double Cauliflower with roasted cauliflower on a bed of creamy cauliflower puree Jerk Chicken Bites with house Jerk sauce Eddo Mash with parmesan and oxtail gravy drizzle Sugarcane Lemonade Brooklyn Mule My favorite was definitely the chicken bites. If I could give MangoSeed zero stars, I would. We showed up a little before 7 ahead of a concert at 8. The first thing I noticed was how slow the staff was to even seat us. Once we were seated, the waiter took our drink and food order. I noticed the bartender moving in SLOW motion making drinks that didn't come out until 15 minutes later. In the meantime, we waited 40 minutes and our food never came. We assumed that the kitchen was very backed up until the waiter came to us and admitted he never put our order into the kitchen because he forgot to do so. We ended up canceling our food order and paid for our drinks because we were in a rush to make our concert. read more

Well Mangoseed is back! Sorta??? Stopped here before heading to kings theatre for a show, it wasn't far from the venue, and the menu had appetizers we were intrested in. It has a cute speakeasy feel...after passing the bike shop area you're in a cozy restaurant with velvety furniture and decor. The space is small, but that's how speakeasy styles are. The staff was friendly buy didnt seem knowledgeable about the menu items. We know that it recently opened back but it feels like a more soft launch then we are in buissness. The food was not what we remembered from the old mangoseed and the choices were a bit limited. Nothing came out hot and we had to ask some of our accompanying sides. Now, the only item on the menu that's still decent is the mac and cheese. The drinks were terrible--our rum punch tasted like plain fruit punch. I had just flew in to NYC around 8ish . The kitchen closes at 10 I believe so I called to confirm that I would make it in time to order food (I was starving lol). The lovely woman on the phone reassured me that they would be waiting on my arrival. Also my bday was the very next day and I just wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner and a few drinks as midnight was near ! The 2 ladies working that night were soooooo kind to me. It felt like they were extended family & I felt so welcomed . I used to live in NY (Brooklyn) in the early half of my 20's and one thing I always appreciated was how hospitable and loving my fellow black folks were, especially in Brooklyn and Harlem . I remember the old Mangoseed and I use to love their happy hour & food. When I saw that they reopened as a speakeasy in the back of a bike shop I had to give it a try. The ambiance was nice with burgundy/velvet seating and a light up bar area. There were more seats than expected in the tiny space, but I do wonder where they'd host the Thursday karaoke (cancelled the Thursday I went) Because the space was small. I wish I got the waitress' name because she had so much personality. Didn't mind customizing the mocktail my friend had and you could tell she enjoyed people. Now the food wasn't as good as I remember, but edible. Rum punch wasnt overpowered by Wray & Nephew, Mac & cheese nice and gooey, but burger was a little sloppy and potatoes too well done. We decided on MangoSeed when friends were in town and had time for brunch. We wanted to try a new spot and heard good things about MangoSeed. Plus, it's always great to have an opportunity to support a Black-owned business. The four of us sat down to dine shortly after they opened. If you want to beat the crowd, I suggest doing the same. Around the table were orders of mimosas, which come in various flavors, salmon pastrami, jerk salmon shakshouka, jerk chicken and waffles, pancakes with turkey bacon, braised oxtail with parmesan grits, and macaroni and cheese. The mimosa mixing could use some improvement, as the juice was thick in texture and a little too sweet. They're served in carafes to the ordering individuals when ordered as unlimited, and they did keep our refills coming regularly. Everyone loved their meals. I tried a forkful of the jerk salmon and it was both seasoned and cooked perfectly. The oxtail and grits were delicious and filling. They definitely know what they're doing with grits, as they weren't undercooked and the consistency was nice. The unexpected star was the salmon pastrami. I don't usually care for smoked salmon, but this was something else! We were all very impressed by this appetizer. On entry there were several signs about them being cash only, which we didn't know ahead of time. After searching the surrounding area for an ATM, we went back only to find that there was an ATM within the restaurant that they didn't mention. I've only had the margaritas but the guava and mango ones are to die for! They will add cheer to any day! For food: my family and I had jerk salmon w/ waffles, fried chicken w/ waffles, and fried fish with Parmesan grits! Whew! I didn't know I even liked grits until I had these Parmesan ones. Grits aren't a thing in my Jamaican culture but I decided to go out on a limb and try them b/c I love cheese (my poor stomach doesn't but my tastebuds do and that's my business). The jerk salmon was done to perfection and makes me wanna ask the chef what kinda frying pan he/she/they used to cook it b/c I need to go and buy the same one for that level of crisp! The waffle bought me back to my college days when I use to think I was a pastry maker handling that 360 rotating waffle maker. Super delicious! Sunday Funday!! The official end of the summer has come upon us. I was greatful that the weather was nice today, so I took advantage of it and BRUNCHED!! Upon entering I didn't see a host, so I sat at the bar while I was waiting for my friend. There was a DJ and he was great. Playing all the necessary Brunch vibe tunes. When my friend arrived we were seated quickly. The seating area is a bit cramped. We were close to both our neighbors and when we had to get up it disrupted them. They have a 22 dollar unlimited brunch drink menu that included tropical flavored mimosas and rum punch but we opted against it. I had just the mango mimosa which was just ok. For our food. I got the chicken and waffles It was ok. I didn't finish it so portions were a good size. The reason for 3 stars is my friend wanted salmon but the menu only had it with waffles (18) and in a tomato sauce. She asked the gentlemen if she could get it with plaintains instead. He stated he would just charge it separately because there was no substitutions. We expected just one small piece of salmon with nothing else on the plate to be maybe 13 bucks. When the bill came it was 17 bucks. No where were we told how much it would be. If that was the case we could've just gotten it with the waffle for 1 dollar more. We wanted to talk to management but apparently no management was there according to the waiter. That's weird. So fyi a small piece of salmon with no side is 17 bucks here. Definitely not worth it.
