So I went to this spot for happy hour. The time we went was 5pm when it opens and we knew we were going to be gone before karaoke began at 7:30. We were wrong. PICH is a restaurant & lounge that have different events throughout the week such as karaoke, game night, taco Tuesday and movie night in the summer. The place is cool. The food however was not great; rice wasn't freshly made, they didn't have a few options (as a lot of Caribbean restaurants). I ordered the Trini style callaloo which is supposed to come with white jasmine rice & plantains. The white rice was not available so we had to get rice and peas. The reason why they got 3 stars is bcuz of MJ (the bartender & host). MJ is friendly, personable, and was involved with karaoke. She made it fun!! MJ was great. Soca and Dancehall in rotation... eclectic crowd at the bar and a menu that was simple yet had some great options. Our server had been our bartender in the past and she's always attentive and ready to get us served. I ordered the fisherman thinking it was just a sandwich (17$) since the other items included fries... however this entree also included fries! Pleasant surprise. It was a whiting sandwich and the fish was fried perfectly... dry, crispy, not greasy... the aioli was delicious (could've had a whole side cup of it) and the fries were served piping hot which I love! I'm honestly speechless about my experience at PiCH -- thankful my fingers still work so I can warn others. As a Jamaican, I felt embarrassed that this is what they're serving in the name of our food. This was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, and I even had to apologize to my husband for bringing him there. It was clear authentic Jamaican cooking is not a priority at this spot. Our waitress was wonderful and did her best to keep us comfortable, but the food and drinks were unacceptable. We started with margaritas, but the bartender clearly didn't know how to make them -- using cheap tequila that tasted awful. My rice and peas were burnt and scraped from the bottom of the pot, old and stale, and my meat was dry and tough, like it had been sitting around for days. My husband tried cutting his with a fork and gave up because it was too hard, and his food was so salty it was inedible. I've seen all the glowing reviews, but maybe it was just a bad Thursday. Still, that's no excuse. If they were out of oxtail, they should've just been honest instead of serving us old scraps. We spent $150 and barely ate two bites. Both our starter and meal came out the same time. Service was extremely slow, we had to flag her down to get our 2nd round of the drinks and she never refilled our waters. She actually never came back after the 2nd round of drinks. October 2022 and one month old PiCH is a beauty. Clean lines in shades of grey, exposed brick behind the bar. Little perfume like flower holders on each table, really really nice. As we left Flatbush and walked in we could smell the newness of the place, (a smell I absolutely take pleasure in). We were immediately sat and as it was a low-key Tuesday evening, we were given the opportunity to choose a table we preferred. We inquired about events and was graciously shown around by one of the owners a Black Woman! Yes! Downstairs can be accessed through the restaurant or another private door from outside which I'm sure those hosting private events will appreciate. In the "basement" there's also a bar and a music set up for DJs. This space is on the smaller side but nice and new just like upstairs. I envision small parties or dinners being held there. We thanked the owner and made our way back up to the main dinning room. There's a cozy completely private backyard but it was a rainy evening so we missed the opportunity to enjoy it. DRINKS: We requested a taste of their rum punch and Dominique our Server was happy to accommodate as she presented our taste in two shot glasses. I'm not a fan of rum but I liked it. My friend the rum connoisseur loved it and went with that for her beverage. It really didn't disappoint. But listen, if you're pushing Caribbean taste you better be able to make some RUM PUNCH! If you're looking to have a quiet meal at a low-key restaurant, PICH isn't the place. I came here on a late Saturday afternoon with friends after a rum tasting. There wasn't any wait but we could tell that the crowd was about to pick up. The DJ was loud and joyful, the music was a great mix of hip hop, r&b and reggae from the mid 2000s. Really turned up vibes but we were at PICH for the food. We opted to sit inside (backyard seating and dancing were also available). We ordered our drinks. After what seemed like forever, my super boozy rum punch arrived. It was strong and cold but the blueberries floating on top seemed oddly placed. Now for the food. My pineapple fried rice with steak arrived- filled with delicious, tender meat spilling out of a sweet, pineapple half. My 3 friends ordered pasta with steak, another type of pineapple fried rice and salmon bites that were served in the cutest waffle cone. Overall, my entire table was pleased. The bill was reasonable. So while visiting Brooklyn I had to check this spot out because I loved that it was located in my old neighborhood. I get to door and honestly my excitement increased because I can hear all the music and laughter. I do recommend making a reservation but the bar was just as fun. No biggie, I figured people were getting off work, and it would change quickly, did. We ordered various things, including Salmon dishes, baked mac and cheese, salmon bites, and more. But before we get to that, their chat about a few different things. STAFF/SERVICE: We came inlet'svarious, and the hostess was, accommodating in putting us at our table. We sat down very quickly, and shortly after, our waitress came over to help us. That was the most that she did, unfortunately. We ordered a couple of apps that we wanted to be delivered with the entrees too, which didn't happen. It took more than 45 min to get two drinks during happy hour when there d two other tables and four bartenders behind the bar. I would only recommend the food here to some; there is much better food in Flatbush all around. APPEARANCE/LOCATION: When you walk in, it gives a small pop-up shot vibe, and I can sit with that. I love that this place opened in a part of town where only a few new businesses are constantly opening. Nevertheless, I was disappointed when I learned this was simply a facade to the back of the house. There appears to be a curtain wherein it is part office space but never closed, so you see right in and giving mixed up mess. I needed to use the bathroom (gross), and the door would barely lock; the handle was weak enough that if somebody pulled hard on it, they would probably be able to open it. They have no paper towels, which may be to cut costs, but I would only touch something in that bathroom with a proper cover. Walk ins are accepted, but Reservations recommended. Don't make the same mistake I made. It gets packed and they will have you waiting forever to be seated, if you're seated at all. They have a basement, but the main floor is where it's at. The dj has everyone in the venue singing and even dancing. The food and drinks were also pretty good. I've been to Pich on multiple occasions. I love a neighborhood gem where you can get good food, drinks and a vibe. They offer a bottomless brunch where you can switch between flavors. The white cran peach Bellini was definitely my favorite and the pineapple coconut was a close second. I really enjoyed the steak and eggs with the rosemary infused butter. read more
