I wish I could give zero stars. While celebrating a 40th bday at BK9 we received HORRIBLE SERVICE. The staff were not friendly and had a smart comment when asked questions. Our food was brought out in 5 sections 10-15 mins apart (it was a party of 7). When the last person received their food 3 people were done eating. We had to pour our own water because the waitress left the pitcher on the table behind us. Then we asked for a refill and she gave us pink water. I asked why was it pink she said "oh someone used the cranberry juice before me" as if it was ok. I asked for a manager she said she was the manager (if she is good luck with business), she later came back and said someone name Gary "G" was coming to talk to us and he never came. Our bill was over $300 for a waste of time, horrible service, basic food and bad attitudes. They didn't even offer to comp the bill for a horrible job. We were very pleasant paid our bill and left. So here I am warning you all not to waste your time and money. read more

My first time here and the ambiance service and food were delicious. I was with a party of 9 celebrating my friends nuptials. The drinks were delicious the Bajan rum punch was on point....the appetizer of jerk wings and muscles with toast was soooo good. For entrees we ordered the griot, oxtails and red snapper. I had the snapper which was so flavorful and the sauce so yummy the veggies were crisp not over cooked and the rice was just right. My friends said the oxtail and griot were also delicious and flavorful. Portion sizes were good and the price point for appetizers drinks and entrees were very very good. This place was a vibe will return very soon. read more

BK9 is a Brooklyn staple!! The food, service and ambiance are a model to all establishments. The staff and owners are always accommodating. As a weekly regular for the past 10 years, I have NEVER had a bad experience there. Whenever I have visitors from out of town, this is my first stop with them. BK9 will forever be home as they treat me and every one of my guests as family. The food is delicious and fresh. I suggest the Ribeye with Mac n cheese and roasted Brussels sprouts -or- the Red Snapper -or- the Pan Seared Scallops!! #LongLiveBK9 read more

BK9 is a really great restaurant. I visited on a Friday evening at 6pm or so. We decided to go here right be4 the Ladies Night Barclay Center concert. It was packed. The upstairs section was full from wall to wall. It was out of control up there. When i walked in, i was worried i wouldnt feel comfortable or have space. However, they have a downstairs. Seems weird at first but its so spacious. The air was flowing and the music was on and playing all the classic 90's. If upstairs is too full i highly recommend going down stairs. Our waiter was a really young man. I could tell he was a teen or really early 20's. He was charming, tried his best, was very attentive and we loved him. The drink menu was labeled Ladies Night which i though was impressive and such a good business move. I do believe that the drinks could of used more variety of alcohol. Only one drink was made with tequila. The rest were mostly rum, literally 9 out of 14. My mom ordered a Margarita. I got a jack and cocacola. We ordered the mussels, jerk wings and fried snapper entree. The mussels were delicious and completely different then any i have tasted. They steamed the mussels in a curry sauce. It was spicy but not overly spicy. I really enjoyed it and it was served with toasted bread. The jerk wings were also really good. The color on them was perfect. They were juicy, spicy, flavorful and not too big. The snapper was okay. Out of everything we ordered, it was my least favorite meal. My husband is haitian and I'm use to eating djon djon rice and fish prepared this way. However, the rice needed more flavor and it was really dry. The fish itself was okay. It wasn't huge, perfect sizing. It was really filling as well. Overall i highly recommend it here. I can't wait to visit again. The food, service and vibes here are everything. Don't forget they have a downstairs section. If its too packed upstairs ask to be seated down stairs, you wont regret it. read more

Let's start with the service. There was one server so I cut her some slack but it was terrible as far as wait time goes. Someone in my party ordered a tea as one of her beverages to start so she'd have a bit of time to warm up before getting her drinks. The waitress took extremely long to come back and tell her they didn't have the tea she requested then took even longer to bring out the tea she settled for. The food came out before the drinks but they both still took very long. I'm sure if they were fully staffed it would have went better. I ordered the oxtail hash and a coconut waffle on the side as well as a peach mango mimosa carafe. The carafe is definitely worth it if you don't just want one glass but also don't want to do bottomless. It's a happy medium. I really enjoyed the food. There was just a bit too much oil on the oxtail hash. Otherwise it was pretty good. It was a pretty calm spot as far as ambiance and decor goes. Not fancy, very casual to grab some food and catch up with friends and/or family. read more

Good Day good people! I was in New York City and I had to take a break from pizza and adventure into some Caribbean food! You know how I do, Ambience, Service and of course the FOOD!! Ambience (5 Stars) for a NYC setting I thought it was nice. They had music, vibes were great and overall the mood was great. Service (4.5 Stars) our waiter wasn't bad. I felt there was a few moments he could have had our waters filled or given us an update on the order but he was attentive and good. Food (3 Stars) I ordered the oxtails, peas and rice and curry cauliflower. My wife had the jerk chicken, now my oxtails were a little tough, it was edible still but the Mac and Cheese was the actual highlight of my meal. My wife ate two bites of the jerk chicken and didn't like it, we are not the type to send it back and request something else, the I'll assume manager saw my wife didn't want a to go dish so she knew my wife didn't like the meal. NYC normally come through with the food but this place here belong in New Jersey lol I wouldn't be back. read more

I've finally had a chance to stop by here. The last time I tried it was pretty crowded at the bar which is where I wanted to sit. We had a few cocktails, jerk wings and fries. I was pleased with the wings as they were wet and not spicy but super flavorful with a great dipping sauce. The fries seemed like fresh hand cut which is always a win im my book. They also knew how to make a classic sidecar. That alone earned them a visit back. read more

So the store is very friendly and in a lovely neighborhood, Park Slope. The first question I asked was how the restaurant was named BK9; I thought it was after the bus route, but it was a dumb question since the route would be B9. So it was named after nine people who invested in this one restaurant, which there is a small picture in the corner of the bar. Tonight was date night with my wife, and we traveled from the Bronx to Brooklyn parking is horrible, but we managed. So when you enter, it's not very friendly off the bat, but the decor is charming. So we were seated by a lovely young lady, and Denise was our server. The appetizer we started with was the Oxtail Empanadas. Oh my goodness, it was well seasoned, and it was great. Every bite was delicious. The only drawback was they forgot to take the bay leaf out and the bone, but it was delicious. It is greasy, so eat it over the plate. To drink, I had ginger ale and cremas (surprised to see this drink after Christmas). Cremas was served in a wine glass, and it was delicious, not too thick and not too watery, and the right about of rum in it. Now to the main course, I had the oxtail bone, with rice and peas, plantains and cabbage. (Side note they have a lot of sides on the menu, but you cant substitute; you just have to buy the sides). I also got callaloo and mac and cheese. I am not a fan of cabbage, so I can't judge it, but my wife loved it; she loves the kick and spicy. The rice was well portioned, with a lot of gravy for the oxtails, and they weren't stingy on the number of oxtails. It wasn't seasoned like the empanadas, but it was still delicious. The Callaloo wasn't all that it was decent; the macaroni and cheese were on point and very good. The service from Denise was phenomenal, and I would come back if she were our waitress again. But overall, this is the first restaurant that I would give five stars for 2022. read more

This is solely based on customer service if I could give them less then 1 star I would. I've come here today and was blown away at how terrible the service was. Firstly we seated ourselves- fine. Then we waiting 25 minutes before the server approached us to take our orders. To which we are told there was only a brunch menu available which would have been fine if we had been told that earlier and not handed the dinner menu. Then we ordered our drinks the beer was straight out the box no chilled glass. Room temp. My drink came 10 minutes later. There is a table cloth then paper over the table that disguises how uneven the tables are. My drink immediately spills. The server is no where to be found and I have to wait another 15 minutes before someone cleans up... the entire time the server is only tending to the bar. At this point more parties come and are seated and are offered water and beverages upon being seated. The food was good but the service was so bad that I'd never visit or recommend this place. read more

Popped in for dinner with a friend, who said it was one of their favorite spots. It was a weeknight and it wasn't crowded. There wasn't a dj or anything. Our waitress/hostess was nice and checked on us often. And both the drinks and food came quickly. I had the rum punch, which was solid. I also had the whole snapper, which was truly delicious. Fish tasted fresh, it was well fried, and the sauce was perfect. The rice and cabbage that came with it were decent, but nothing memorable. My friend thoroughly enjoyed their oxtail and left nothing behind lol. read more

I reserved a table for three. We arrived on time to find a line out the door and were told that we would have to wait 45 to 90 minutes to be seated. Everyone on the line also had reservations. I decided to give this place a try after my friend hyped this place up a few times. We've known him to have a questionable food palette, and needless to say this will be the final time I take any of his recommendations. I ordered Jerk Chicken, and instead received Jerk Pork. I do not eat pork. The food is way overpriced and you don't even get the right meat, the worst money I've ever spent. Avoid at all costs. I have learned my lesson and will no longer take my friend's recommendations. read more

Are you ready for the 411? Here we go...my girlfriends and I had ourselves a good old time at BK9! Between the ambiance, music, food and drinks, it was a good evening! We were a group of six and was able to have a high table with street view. The music was really good and it got the whole restaurant to participate in its own little impromptu karaoke. The drinks were on point and the food was well seasoned and prepared perfectly. Our server, Christian, was patient and really nice. I am always amazed how they are able to retain all these orders in their heads, I know I would not be able to! I recommend this restaurant. read more

This place was great - the food was amazing I had the oxtail with mushroom rice. When I tell you I tore up my food. I mean I over ate because it was that good. Now the night I ate there unfortunately only had one waitress working so getting to the table was slow. The bartender not so great but the food compensated for all the other mishaps . You will enjoy and if you don't then something is wrong. read more

I can't say enough about BK9. Our party of five enjoyed the food and had a great time with the staff. I'm looking forward to visiting this restaurant again in the future. Let's talk about the staff first. We were greeted at the hosts' stand and informed them of our reservation. They were wonderful and we only had to wait a minute or two for our table to be set. Our server, Craig, greeted us with a smile and later introduced us to his brother, Chef Brian. (Fun fact: they're triplets but the third brother doesn't work at the restaurant!) We laughed and joked with them for the majority of our time in the restaurant. We ate so much and everything was great. We started with jerk wings and braised oxtail empanadas. Both were delicious. The jerk wings were served with a cilantro sauce that paired perfectly with the spice of the wings. The empanadas had a perfectly flaky crust and a beet yogurt. I didn't care for the beet yogurt alone but I like it with the empanada. For entrees, we ordered bone-in oxtails and jerk chicken. Both entrees came with rice and peas, cabbage and plantain but for one order we substituted the rice and peas for diri jon jon. The rice and peas were pretty standard. I was expecting more flavor from the cabbage. The oxtails and jerk chicken were seasoned perfectly and they surpassed expectations. I almost forgot... We also ordered sides of brussel sprouts and macaroni and cheese. The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy. The macaroni and cheese was delicious and flavorful. The sides are definitely big enough to be shared between 2-3 people. We shared a strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was perfect. The cake was moist and the strawberries were sweet! Ugh, I almost forgot about our drinks. I had the frozen rum punch, rum punch on the rocks and the specialty drink, which was a ginger-peach rum punch. I wasn't a fan of the frozen rum punch. It wasn't a bad drink but it wasn't what I expected or what I was used to. I expected for it to be sweeter than what it was. I loved the ginger-peach rum punch and it needs to be a regular menu item. read more

I had a great time here celebrating my aunt's graduation dinner. The ambiance was amazing, The music was a bit loud so it felt more like a club, but it was still good service nonetheless. AMAZING! I absolutely enjoyed every moment of my experience here during the recent Kwanzaa Crawl event. The reserved the entire location for the event and provided a special menu. The system of getting food was efficient and organized; obtaining a ticket after placing your order. It was hard to select what to get since everything sounded great from the food to the drinks. Decided to go with the sweet chilli wings with plantain and I was far from disappointed! These wings were cooked to perfection to the point were they remained hot throughout the entire time I ate them. The music waas loud but lively. Everyone was engaged and had a great time. On top of that, the venue looks small from the outside but in actuality, there's two floors and it's quite spacious. I can't wait to come back here for happy hour, brunch, and dinner. read more

Went here for brunch and I wasn't disappointed in my food selection. Their Caribbean vibes and menu dishes compliment the ambiance very well. The customer service is rewardable and I haven't had a bad experience yet. Everyone from the greeter to server, is very pleasant. I think their portion sizes can be a bit more ample given their price range. This is not my first dine-in here but I've always felt like that. Their drink menu is pretty reliable, their drinks will give you the buzz you're looking for. This time I ordered the BK9 rum punch. I did end up regretting it because the sorrel part of the drink was too overpowering and took away from the delightful taste I thought it would have. Nonetheless, this is always a business I would always support and continue to support. read more

BK9 serves up some good Caribbean food. They offer a variety of cuisines, ranging from Trinidadian to Haitian. On my first visit, I had the pork griot. Even though I grew up around Haitian people, I've never had the chance to eat this. The griot had a crispy exterior and a tender exterior, the pikliz as expected were spicy and crunchy. The sauce added really helped mesh the flavors together. I ordered the miso salmon my second time around. The callaloo had a subtle coconut flavor but was effective. The salmon though cooked well could have packed more of a punch in the flavor department. The drinks here are very strong, though the service tends to vary. Overall although a bit inconsistent, BK9 is worth a visit. read more

Great place and a great vibe. Went there for brunch and we were a bigger party. However some of the stuff seemed weird. I ordered the chicken and waffles but I just wanted an upgrade on the waffles which was just to add caramelized bananas on top of the waffle. Somehow the waitress goes "so you want the waffle with a side of chicken" which even confused me. So I'm just like yeah and then what comes out is the waffle which barely had any bananas literally 4 slices like they rationing bananas. And one fried chicken breast... and for reference the regular chicken and waffles has two pieces of chicken which is a drumstick and the bigger breast on the bone. And the quality of the waffle by itself is equivalent to a hotel waffle while it's marketed as some "coconut waffle". My friend ordered the oxtail hash and oxtails are supposed to be nice and tender but somehow hers was burnt so bad the oxtail was literally crunchy. I also ordered a sorrel lemonade and guess what comes out. A glass of sorrel with a lemon slice on the glass. They obviously market stuff really well but honestly you're not getting what you really pay for. Oh and also my other friend ordered the steak and eggs and it had to be the worst steak I tried. It was a tan color and not even cooked to his liking. read more

I'm gonna start by saying the hostess was great. Came here last night (Wednesday) and was welcomed to sit outside as I'm not vax'd. Service was great and the drinks were good - I had a rum punch. I heard a couple talking to the waitress about the food but all that really stuck with me was "it's ok, I'll still eat it" - I wasn't listening too hard and also don't know what they ordered. My friend ordered the burger she said it was great. I ordered the jerk chicken and it was not cooked enough. Completely turned me off and I couldn't even eat it. Uncooked jerk chicken leg ? Horrible. Especially when you bite in to it expecting something delicious after a long day of not eating. It's a shame because the waitress said it was a must try - Maybe I just wasn't lucky that night. I haven't posted a review since before covid but this had to be said - I probably won't be returning here read more
