I was really excited to come here because I heard a lot of good things about that place, especially from reviews here on Google but I was disappointed unfortunately. I don't think they are well-equipped for good crowds which is definitely not good for business right now. I had made a reservation and because they had taken a lot of walkins earlier, the reservation meant nothing. Then when I was finally seated, it took forever to put in my order and way too long to receive the food. And one of my plates was drastically cold. Had the oxtail and hanger steak. Both underwhelming but the oxtail was better than the steak. Also had the jerk wings, those were bomb! Overall: Was expecting better. Best to stick to local family joints for carribean food. The drinks were delicious the Bajan rum punch was on point....the appetizer of jerk wings and muscles with toast was soooo good. For entrees we ordered the griot, oxtails and red snapper. This is solely based on customer service if I could give them less then 1 star I would. I've come here today and was blown away at how terrible the service was. Firstly we seated ourselves- fine. Then we waiting 25 minutes before the server approached us to take our orders. To which we are told there was only a brunch menu available which would have been fine if we had been told that earlier and not handed the dinner menu. Then we ordered our drinks the beer was straight out the box no chilled glass. Room temp. My drink came 10 minutes later. There is a table cloth then paper over the table that disguises how uneven the tables are. My drink immediately spills. The server is no where to be found and I have to wait another 15 minutes before someone cleans up... the entire time the server is only tending to the bar. At this point more parties come and are seated and are offered water and beverages upon being seated. Let's start with the service. There was one server so I cut her some slack but it was terrible as far as wait time goes. Someone in my party ordered a tea as one of her beverages to start so she'd have a bit of time to warm up before getting her drinks. I've finally had a chance to stop by here. The last time I tried it was pretty crowded at the bar which is where I wanted to sit. We had a few cocktails, jerk wings and fries. BK9 is a really great restaurant. I visited on a Friday evening at 6pm or so. We decided to go here right be4 the Ladies Night Barclay Center concert. It was packed. The upstairs section was full from wall to wall. It was out of control up there. When i walked in, i was worried i wouldnt feel comfortable or have space. However, they have a downstairs. Seems weird at first but its so spacious. The air was flowing and the music was on and playing all the classic 90's. If upstairs is too full i highly recommend going down stairs. Our waiter was a really young man. I could tell he was a teen or really early 20's. He was charming, tried his best, was very attentive and we loved him. The drink menu was labeled Ladies Night which i though was impressive and such a good business move. I do believe that the drinks could of used more variety of alcohol. Only one drink was made with tequila. The rest were mostly rum, literally 9 out of 14. My mom ordered a Margarita. I got a jack and cocacola. We ordered the mussels, jerk wings and fried snapper entree. The mussels were delicious and completely different then any i have tasted. They steamed the mussels in a curry sauce. It was spicy but not overly spicy. I really enjoyed it and it was served with toasted bread. The jerk wings were also really good. The color on them was perfect. They were juicy, spicy, flavorful and not too big. The snapper was okay. Out of everything we ordered, it was my least favorite meal. My husband is haitian and I'm use to eating djon djon rice and fish prepared this way. However, the rice needed more flavor and it was really dry. The fish itself was okay. It wasn't huge, perfect sizing. It was really filling as well. Overall i highly recommend it here. I can't wait to visit again. The food, service and vibes here are everything. So the store is very friendly and in a lovely neighborhood, Park Slope. The first question I asked was how the restaurant was named BK9; I thought it was after the bus route, but it was a dumb question since the route would be B9. So it was named after nine people who invested in this one restaurant, which there is a small picture in the corner of the bar. Tonight was date night with my wife, and we traveled from the Bronx to Brooklyn parking is horrible, but we managed. So when you enter, it's not very friendly off the bat, but the decor is charming. So we were seated by a lovely young lady, and Denise was our server. The appetizer we started with was the Oxtail Empanadas. Oh my goodness, it was well seasoned, and it was great. Every bite was delicious. The only drawback was they forgot to take the bay leaf out and the bone, but it was delicious. It is greasy, so eat it over the plate. To drink, I had ginger ale and cremas (surprised to see this drink after Christmas). Cremas was served in a wine glass, and it was delicious, not too thick and not too watery, and the right about of rum in it. Now to the main course, I had the oxtail bone, with rice and peas, plantains and cabbage. (Side note they have a lot of sides on the menu, but you cant substitute; you just have to buy the sides). I also got callaloo and mac and cheese. I am not a fan of cabbage, so I can't judge it, but my wife loved it; she loves the kick and spicy. The rice was well portioned, with a lot of gravy for the oxtails, and they weren't stingy on the number of oxtails. It wasn't seasoned like the empanadas, but it was still delicious. The Callaloo wasn't all that it was decent; the macaroni and cheese were on point and very good. The service from Denise was phenomenal, and I would come back if she were our waitress again. Popped in for dinner with a friend, who said it was one of their favorite spots. It was a weeknight and it wasn't crowded. There wasn't a dj or anything. Great place and a great vibe. Went there for brunch and we were a bigger party. However some of the stuff seemed weird. I ordered the chicken and waffles but I just wanted an upgrade on the waffles which was just to add caramelized bananas on top of the waffle. Somehow the waitress goes "so you want the waffle with a side of chicken" which even confused me. So I'm just like yeah and then what comes out is the waffle which barely had any bananas literally 4 slices like they rationing bananas. And one fried chicken breast... and for reference the regular chicken and waffles has two pieces of chicken which is a drumstick and the bigger breast on the bone. And the quality of the waffle by itself is equivalent to a hotel waffle while it's marketed as some "coconut waffle". My friend ordered the oxtail hash and oxtails are supposed to be nice and tender but somehow hers was burnt so bad the oxtail was literally crunchy. I also ordered a sorrel lemonade and guess what comes out. A glass of sorrel with a lemon slice on the glass. They obviously market stuff really well but honestly you're not getting what you really pay for. Oh and also my other friend ordered the steak and eggs and it had to be the worst steak I tried. I can't say enough about BK9. Our party of five enjoyed the food and had a great time with the staff. I'm looking forward to visiting this restaurant again in the future. Let's talk about the staff first. We were greeted at the hosts' stand and informed them of our reservation. They were wonderful and we only had to wait a minute or two for our table to be set. Our server, Craig, greeted us with a smile and later introduced us to his brother, Chef Brian. (Fun fact: they're triplets but the third brother doesn't work at the restaurant!) We laughed and joked with them for the majority of our time in the restaurant. We ate so much and everything was great. We started with jerk wings and braised oxtail empanadas. Both were delicious. The jerk wings were served with a cilantro sauce that paired perfectly with the spice of the wings. The empanadas had a perfectly flaky crust and a beet yogurt. I didn't care for the beet yogurt alone but I like it with the empanada. For entrees, we ordered bone-in oxtails and jerk chicken. Both entrees came with rice and peas, cabbage and plantain but for one order we substituted the rice and peas for diri jon jon. The rice and peas were pretty standard. I was expecting more flavor from the cabbage. The oxtails and jerk chicken were seasoned perfectly and they surpassed expectations. I almost forgot... We also ordered sides of brussel sprouts and macaroni and cheese. The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy. The macaroni and cheese was delicious and flavorful. The sides are definitely big enough to be shared between 2-3 people. We shared a strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was perfect. The cake was moist and the strawberries were sweet! Ugh, I almost forgot about our drinks. I had the frozen rum punch, rum punch on the rocks and the specialty drink, which was a ginger-peach rum punch. I wasn't a fan of the frozen rum punch. It wasn't a bad drink but it wasn't what I expected or what I was used to. I expected for it to be sweeter than what it was. AMAZING! I absolutely enjoyed every moment of my experience here during the recent Kwanzaa Crawl event. The reserved the entire location for the event and provided a special menu. The system of getting food was efficient and organized; obtaining a ticket after placing your order. It was hard to select what to get since everything sounded great from the food to the drinks. Decided to go with the sweet chilli wings with plantain and I was far from disappointed! These wings were cooked to perfection to the point were they remained hot throughout the entire time I ate them. The music waas loud but lively. Everyone was engaged and had a great time. BK9 serves up some good Caribbean food. They offer a variety of cuisines, ranging from Trinidadian to Haitian. On my first visit, I had the pork griot. Even though I grew up around Haitian people, I've never had the chance to eat this. The griot had a crispy exterior and a tender exterior, the pikliz as expected were spicy and crunchy. The sauce added really helped mesh the flavors together. I ordered the miso salmon my second time around. The callaloo had a subtle coconut flavor but was effective. The salmon though cooked well could have packed more of a punch in the flavor department. The drinks here are very strong, though the service tends to vary.
