If it were possible for me to give no stars, I would. This was the longest, least attentive, worst tasting dining experience I've ever had and I've lived for nearly 36 years. My meal, which included poached eggs came hard boiled, my fiancés meal came out 30 minutes after my meal. It took the waitress nearly an hour to bring a to-go box. Came here on Sunday with my dad to get lunch. They do provide outdoor seating, however the tables are not as spaced out. More like 3 feet instead of 6 feet. I was seated and after ~15 minutes of getting my drinks, I was told that the kitchen was closing for brunch and preparing for dinner and that dinner would be a 20 min wait. Not a problem. Don't ever after 12am when your hungry. It wasn't busy at the tables. Maybe just two other orders. We placed the order at 1230am and it's 120am and we are starving. The music is very loud. It's good music though and the decor is nice. If you want to dance and have a drink I'd say come over here. But not for meals! We got our food about 2am. Here are the pictures of the food. I ordered scallops with veggie rice. The scallops was over cooked. It was so chewy And tough I spit it out. I couldn't eat it. My friends food on the other hand was good and tasty. He had the salmon. We popped into this spot on a random Saturday! Think it was the live Dj that got us! We were enjoying the music so much I didn't get much pics. My husband and I recently ordered take out from BK9. We had an issue with our order and gave the restaurant a call to express our disappointment. Gary, one of the managers, went ABOVE AND BEYOND to rectify the problem. He even gave me his personal telephone number and extended a gift and credit to us. Service like that matters. I happen to waking home during the day , and Im in loved w/ JERK WINGS if there made right. I order there $1 wings to go at the window (Not delivery) and I get 10 and a nice cream sauce to dunk them it actually you probably have to squeeze out the sauce on the wings . I'm not sure what was more enjoyable, the meal or them. I got a meal & a "show" for $50. You can't get that anywhere. Question: Does BK mean beautiful kings because that would make perfect sense. Note: Their service was perfection. Very professional, attentive, gave great eye contact, comfortable with the menu & very personable. They don't serve hot tea (no big deal, lots of places don't), so I had hot water with lemon... I was content. The water they serve chilled must be hijacked from some remote island spring and filtered through fine diamonds and fairy dust. Hear me when I tell you that is some good a** water! I started with the jerk chicken wings which are accompanied by a wasaabi mayo & a BBQ sauce. It's perfectly seasoned although they held off on the intense spice. Very delicious. However, I was seated next to someone who clearly isn't used to seasoned food and she thought it was the hottest thing ever. It was visually hilarious to watch her. It's not hot or spicy. Not even close. I can't even call it mild. It's as close to spicy as the Obamas are in being friends with the Trumps. The oxtail entree, very hearty and lots of food. I'm not a fan of cabbage, the plantain were huge but my fav was the rice & peas. I don't even like rice & peas, but the way they prepared it, made me forget that. Dessert (of course I had dessert). My friends and I came here on Christmas , yes I was very surprised that they were open but the staff were extremely hospitable and nice ! Our waitresses name was Denise. She was fabulous , very attentive and kind to my friends and I . For the appetizers, we ordered Mac and cheese, oxtail empanadas and wings. The appetizers itself were just AMAZING. My favorite were the oxtail empanadas. The vibe of the spot was cozy, top hip hop hits and Caribbean music were playing. Great service by Jeff! This was our first stop after the Nets game. It was close to the Barclays Center so we decided to start here for our beer hop run. The vibes were good, it was actually pretty packed. Seemed to be a lot of regulars there. Our bartender Jeff did a great job. We had a couple beers and two shots. I came here for brunch on Sunday at aprox 3pm and there was a live DJ. It's a nice vibe here. The food is pretty good. I loved the ox tail hash with eggs (I think it's very unique), and it was really good. My friend got the shrimp with grits with the Caribbean sauce and she said it was really good as well. Came here on a Tuesday before (slash during lol) a nets game. We sat at a table and ordered the oxtail plate with an extra side. I had the sangria and watching it be prepared was a little unnerving as it was a bag of fruit in liquor dumped into a glass and topped with wine but it was pretty good lol. Came here for brunch ch with my girls for Juneteenth! We really wanted to support a black owned business and I've always wanted to try this place so why not! We missed our reservation by about 30-45 mins (life comes at you fast). At first the hostess gave us this "I don't know what to tell you" kind of attitude but as our party finally started to arrive she became nicer and was able to accommodate us. I excused her initial attitude as I'm sure it was a busy day, we did inconvenience her, and I didn't think it was directed towards us. When we sat down we were serviced by Craig. My friends had the Caribbean Benedict and the Oxtail Hash which they really really loved. My other friends had chicken and waffles and it was your general chicken and waffles. They also said the chicken was dry. I ordered the French Toast and bacon but it was very doughy and the bacon was super greasy. I don't know what it was but I didn't enjoy the food that much. So it seems like the brunch foods are a hit or miss. Also for some reason the sides are all expensive. Like the side of bacon was $9. That's a bit much. The drinks were really good from the rum punch to the sangria. We loved them all and we had a round shots. Avoid their house liquor at all costs as it pretty much rubbing alcohol. To be perfectly transparent my husband and I have been here before for drinks but never for a sit down meal. In previous times, pre-COVID, the service was as expected at a bustling neighborhood waterhole. This particular instance we came here super hungry after a long day. We expected for there to a longer than normal wait time since it was relatively crowded before we got there. The hostess brought us to a seat within 10 mins of arriving. As we sat for about another 10 mins waiting for our waitress to arrive we noticed other tables seated before us waiting for their server to attend to them. Nevertheless we were patient. Our server arrived and we immediately placed our order to avoid potentially waiting as long as our neighbors. The young woman who took our order failed to provide us with napkins, utensils, or plates for sharing the appetizer we ordered. That aside we tried to understand they were "busy" so we didn't make a fuss however I did notice our server was not particularly swamped as she had time to fold napkins seated at the bar. My husband gave VERY clear instructions as to how he wanted his food prepared, when it arrived none of those instructions were followed -- we said this to the server who looked at us as if there was nothing she could do to rectify the issue so to save time he kept it and removed all the items himself. In doing so he realized the food was barely room temperature when it arrived. It likely sat out on the counter waiting for her to remember while she sat quietly wrapping utensils in napkins. When she returned my husband said "the food is really cold, almost inedible" she replied "oh". She didn't offer to get him a new order or to see if another menu item could replace it. She simply walked away as if it were our problem. That meal was uneaten save the two bites he took. My snapper was fine. The black rice was dry and there was very little gravy/sauce to accompany the fish. The Brussels sprouts were crispy garbage to be frank. I also said this to our server and again she gave me a blank stare. It was her lack of concern or care that really made this experience truly disgraceful. We were never offered refills on water, she gave us two paper napkins for the duration of the meal, and lastly an 18% gratuity was added to the bill. The latter really upset me because we were forced to acknowledge POOR service by tipping her anyway which is probably why she was unbothered. To culminate this terrible dining experience we tried to engage the manager as she hurried by to let her know about the uneaten meal still before us. She asked "What would you like me to do?" Then proceeded to offer us a drink for our trouble. For context, at that moment we had already received the check and were ready to leave. The decent thing to do would have been to remove the meal or add a discount but neither of those options were offered. In conclusion, do not go here if you're looking for a decent dining experience or craft cocktails. They can offer neither. It's a shame because we want to patronize black owned businesses and see them be successful however there needs to be a complete overhaul of the menu, the chef, and the staff there if they stand to have longevity in that community. There is so much more I can say but in short DO NOT go here with high expectations if you absolutely MUST eat here. AND they threw in a cheesecake for us for good measure which we were soooo excited to see! This was my first time here and it was really. My only negative remark is there was barely any meat on the oxtail so it was more like bones and sauce. Came to celebrate my best friends birthday here and we enjoyed everything from the service to the music and last but not least the food. The pepper shrimp and jerk wings are always a must. The oxtail dinner itself was juicy and flavor filled, the meat from the oxtail dinner should've been in the empanada. The griot pork dinner always well seasoned and tender. My best friend's pork chop was very moist and well done not dry. The drinks are refreshing with the right touch of alcohol. The Mac pie looked weird and then was super cold in the middle. The cabbage was unseasoned, the rice tasted spoiled, jerk chicken was cold, and plantain oily and cold. My appetizer was jerk wings which came burnt. Main course was oxtail, rice & peas, plantains. Plantain were prepared spanish style smashed & fried (dry) oxtail were cold & not seasoned well, with too much sugar in the sauce. I ordered a manhattan with bullet bourbon too much ice.
