I came here today for brunch. My favorite meal of the day. I was really looking forward to trying out this spot. I had it bookmarked for a while. Came here on Saturday afternoon. It wasn't crowded at all. I was able to come in and sit wherever I liked. I was greeted promptly which was nice. We looked over the menu for drinks and brunch. We ordered two cocktails and the chicken and waffles and the rum, banana coconut waffles. The drinks were pretty decent. The food arrived in okay time, the wait wasn't long. However, when the dishes came I was a bit overwhelmed. The chicken and waffles came with breakfast potatoes. The Rum waffles came with nothing else. I as soon as I saw I said, oh gosh I'm still going to hungry, and I'm not a heavy eater. We both dug in and was looking forward to the meal but unfortunately was disappointed. Both of our waffles were very bland, soft and flat. Me and a box of pancake mix can make better waffles. I didn't taste any coconut in my waffles or in the sauce. The menu said it came with bananas but when I bit into it I realized they were plantains. I love me some plantains but were they supposed to be bananas. Not quite the same. I left still a bit hungry. I frankly got tired chewing the bland food and gave up. The chicken and the potatoes were also bland. All in all I will not be stopping back here for brunch again. read more

I'm a regular here and I enjoy myself Every time. The food always fills my soul. If you're looking for good Caribbean food in the heart of park slope this is where it's at. Came to celebrate my best friends birthday here and we enjoyed everything from the service to the music and last but not least the food. I'm giving 4 stars only because the oxtail empanadas were not good at all we sent it back but they didn't remove it but everything else was cooked to perfection. The pepper shrimp and jerk wings are always a must. The oxtail dinner itself was juicy and flavor filled, the meat from the oxtail dinner should've been in the empanada. The griot pork dinner always well seasoned and tender. My best friend's pork chop was very moist and well done not dry. The drinks are refreshing with the right touch of alcohol. The energy on a while is a great atmosphere good for groups, dates, or even solo at the bar. Happy hour is Monday thru Friday 4 to 7pm. read more

So I came here yesterday morning for brunch. I must say the experience was not great. The food was not good, the drinks were lacking and the service was also bad. So let's get started I ordered the banana rum coconut waffles. I must say my friend makes better waffles. The waffles had no taste and then I did not get the passion fruit whipped cream which was part of the menu description. I ate half of it and left it. My brother ordered the fried chicken and waffles and he received chicken strips with the same waffle I received. When I asked the waitress for the passion fruit whipped cream she said they did not have any. I was confused by the response because it was part of the menu description. She did give me regular whipped cream which I ate. I also had the mimosa but all I tasted was juice. My friend ordered the oxtail hash which to me was ok but everyone else loved it. We also tried the rum punch but I did not think it had enough liquor. I wanted to try the frozen rum punch but it was not ready. The service was not good. I had high hopes for this business and I was very disappointed. Maybe they were having an off day. read more

BK9! A black owned restaurant that serves a variety of Caribbean foods. I went when indoor dining was closed and their outdoor dining still needed some work. They had heaters but it was still cold. What saved us was how absolutely delicious the food was. I got Oxtail hash with came with fried eggs oxtail and potatoes, great serving size. The Caribbean Benedict was also really yummy. They don't offer bottomless but they do offer a carafe of Bellini or mimosa for about $15 which isn't bad, we got a free refill from the server who was a nice guy(also one of the co owners). I would say that the drink could've been a little stronger but that's me personally. Now that they're open for indoor dining I will give it a try again. :) read more

My brunch experience was wonderful here. Our waitress Cass was very friendly and prompt. Food didn't take too long to come out. I ordered the Caribbean Benedict and my cousins had the Banana Rum Coconut waffle. The Benedict was good but was missing some spice. It was very filling. However, the stellar food item was the Banana Rum Coconut waffle it was so flavorful and fluffy. The mimosas here do sneak up on you so be aware. read more

Ordered via Caviar so I can't speak on in-dining service but based on my experience via Caviar I can say that there is something to them needing to tighten things up. I ordered the Oxtail Empanadas and Jerk Shrimp PO BOY, however they gave me the Jerk Shrimp SANDWICH instead. If they were out of ingredients for Po Boys, it would have been easy to have Caviar call me to give me the option of the substitution. I would have gladly substituted something else. I know they went ahead and gave me the sandwich (which btw is cheaper on the menu) because they still included the side salad I requested with the Po Boy (salad is not an option on the sandwich through Caviar). I understand taste wise the shrimp sandwich and po boy are likely very similar but it was extremely difficult and messy to eat large shrimp on a brioche bun and they didn't even wrap the burger to keep contents contained. I also wanted to split the po boy and save half for later which is just not possible with the bread for the sandwich. It was so messy I gave up and just ended up eating the shrimp out of the sandwich. The shrimp sandwich on the menu comes with fries, which they gave me, however they were unacceptable. I spit out the one bite I took. These fries had been sitting out all day, no temperature to them, hard and dry which is weird bc everything else I got was perfect temperature. The side salad was good. The highlight and what saved the meal was the oxtail empanadas. They are very very good. Everything you want good empanadas to be. Overall I might be willing in the future to give them another shot. The food taste wise is awesome (avoid the fries) but it seems too hit and miss for me in the same order, definitely ordering via caviar though as they gave me the difference in the order. read more

Came here for happy hour drinks with my sister. I had the Rhum Sangria and she had an Angry Orchard. I enjoyed my drink because it was strong and flavorful. There was fresh strawberries and blueberries that added a nice touch. After about two drinks I was a little tipsy. We decided to order appetizers in addition to our drinks we ordered the oxtail empanadas, Thai coconut curry mussels, and the jerk wings. I loved the shell of the empanadas; it was flaky but soft when I got to the center with the filling. I did not like the beet sauce that came with it. It did nothing nothing for the dish and my opinion took away from the flavor of the empanadas The mussels were unexpectedly spicy! The curry overpowered the coconut; there was not a good balance of the advertised flavors. The portion is large and was a good item to share. The jerk wings were too fatty for me. This is not my first time visiting this establishment. I wanted to come here to see how things have changed but nothing has changed much since they opened a few years back. read more

This establishment was referred to me by a friend. My family & I visited on May 18 to celebrate a graduation. The service was slow & the food was not good. Prefix menu. My appetizer was jerk wings which came burnt. Main course was oxtail, rice & peas, plantains. Plantain were prepared spanish style smashed & fried (dry) oxtail were cold & not seasoned well, with too much sugar in the sauce. I ordered a manhattan with bullet bourbon too much ice. Music vibes & DJ was on point. Maybe the cook was overwhelmed with the over flow of patrons. Kitchen workers have to do better. read more

I want to know why this place is so terrible ??? This is my second time here, brought our dad for Father's Day, the music is blasting and techno! I mean this is a Caribbean place hence bring our Jamaican father. We made reservations and they seat us behind the Dj, I ask if there's anywhere else we can sit bc I can tell my dad is getting a headache with the Lady Gaga... they say No! One lady comes and brings us water (the same waitress who charged me a diff tables order the last time I came). Then another waiter comes with water confused that we already had some! Now we order and they tell me Salmon cannot substitute it's farro for anything BUT rice and peas. But I'm pescatarian, and I don't eat everyone's rice and peas... so no white rice at least? No Mac and cheese? They said NO. Ok so I have to pay for the full meal + a side of Mac and cheese. My son is picky and ordered bbq wings and Mac n cheese. Another guy comes to us, not the waiter, to say there's no Mac and cheese.... ON FATHERS DAY? That's not something you THINK y'all should say when we come in? He says well alot of Fathers been here today... we came for 7pm, communication is key! I had to get up and find our waiter to tell him cancel everything and we left! I have a pounding headache from the techno and aggravation of BK9! I thought this second experience would be better, almost 9months later but no, terrible! My first experience waitress charged me, my aunt and my son, for the table of 6+ women next to us and said If we can dispute it amongst ourselves because of "their system". 0/0 DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

On December 1, 2018 my Mom, Aunt, Cousin, and I came here for a Dinner before attending First Lady Michelle Obama's Book Tour Becoming. The restaurant was all abuzz with so many others who were also there for a dinner before our Evening at the Barclays. I loved that the restaurant also got into the celebration by offering a custom Michelle Obama Cocktail Menu. I had the Becoming Michelle Obama Cocktail. It was delicious and refreshing. I had the Hanger Steak, with baby carrots, roasted Brussel sprouts, and Guinness beef jus. It was delicious the steak was moist, juicy and savory. It melted in your mouth the Guinness beef jus added a smooth flavor to the steak I could taste (I think) thyme and bayleaf. It was just delicious. I love the Brussel Sprouts it was roasted perfectly. You could taste the smokey flavor in each bite. I haven't been back yet because of my move, but when I'm back down in Brooklyn I will be back read more

The food is nothing special. The food is alright and pair with wrong cheap sauce. Very disappointed with side dish, plantains of 4-5 pieces for $8. Dry and tasteless. Pricey! The beefsteak is slightly better but still nothing special. Jerk chicken wings were plain and again, come with wrong sauce. I would suggest them to upgrade their sauces. To pair with expensive beef steak ($31), or side dish plantains ($8), they should have some home made sauce instead of bottle sauce from Key Food. Their cocktails is better than food. Maybe next time I come around for drink rather than food. read more

The best part about this place? Its location. Bar service was surprisingly bad. Our bartender seemed overwhelmed and was slow to provide service. I visited BK9 for the first time for Brunch on a Sunday and to say the least, the experience was rather pleasant. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. Although we waited an unusually long amount of time to be greeted/given water, once the host made notice of this - she was sure to have our waitress come over right away. They were busy so we it's understandable that sometimes people may go overlooked (by accident). To make up for it, we were given two glasses of complimentary champagne and had one of our other drinks discounted. This was a pleasant surprise and of course, welcomed! The food was delicious, plentiful and priced reasonably. The live band was a nice touch as well. The restaurant itself is spacious enough that you feel comfortable and I'll definitely be going back to try out the dinner menu as well as some of the happy hour specials. read more

My cousin came here a few weeks before and posted some pictures on social media. I knew I had to stop by. Of course, I ended up going the same day Michelle Obama was at Barclays Center and there wa a birthday group on a Wednesday night arouns 6:30PM. Nonetheless, I came solo and was able to sit at the bar which waa great because regular seating would've been at least 30 minutes. I didn't have an issue with the wait staff. The bar tender was really nice and super busy. She acknowledged me and took my order in a timely manner. I didn't have to flag her down as I sometimes have to do in other bar settings. The ambiance is pretty chill, 90s music. It is a fairly small venue so I would definitely recommend making reservations in advance. The food. I had the griot, rice, plantains with picklez. Its pretty solid and spot on as far as Haitian cuisine. I also had an non-alcoholic drink which was good. I also had the red velvet cake which tasted slightly different than the typical red velvet (less sweet). Its a reasonable price point and I would definitely return to try other items on the menu. read more

Absolutely love this spot. A few weeks ago I spoke with Maya and Craig to host my 30th birthday celebration in the private room this past weekend. They were entirely accommodating with small requests. They even allowed my friends to come and decorate early, connect our own music to the bluetooth, bring in our own desert. Craig was a great host. The space was dope, pretty low key. It was a really comfortable space and comfortable to move or enjoy yourself. The private room we had was gorg. It had a nice rustic look and feel to it + we had complete control of the light levels as well. Now on to the food. I've grown up in Queens and I've had my fair share of West Indian dishes. That said, I can honestly said the food was delish and lived up to expectations. I had the cod and cassava cake to start and finished off with the broiled miso salmon. As a fish connoisseur I truly enjoyed it. My friends raved about the jerk chicken wings and oxtail empanadas. Drinks were delish as well and prices were absolutely reasonable. Can't wait to host another event there, and of course, I will def return before to hang out with friends and for date night. Cheers to the owners and managers on this dope spot. I've had the pleasure of visiting BK9 on a few occasions. The first time was closer to the time of their grand opening. My cousin is frat and went to go support. I was invited to come along. The dish I display with this review is the dish that I had initially. I have no qualms with the food here. It is flavorful, there's never a time that I haven't enjoyed it. The cassava bread is out of this world, shout out to whoever had that idea. My only critique is that on more than one occasion here I have experienced some subpar service at some point. Maybe an order was forgotten, or food too longer than normal to prepare. In any of these cases though, for the most part, management has always made things right. They weren't dismissive and they were attentive. Sh** happens sometimes as they say and I can understand that. So I'll be back for sure and I'm glad you guys are still making it all happen. The first dish I had here were the scallops, and they were scrumptious! The menu is imaginative and is one of the more unique menus in Brooklyn. read more

I visited BK9 for the Brooklyn Kwanzaa Crawl this year and I was very impressed with the kitchen staff, bartenders, management and overall ambiance of the venue. We arrived early and the staff was very welcoming and attentive. A special drink menu was put together with cute themed drinks like "Black Girl Magic" and "Reclaiming My Time". I was very pleased with my drink which had a rum punch vibe to it. I headed over to order from the kitchen and decided on the honey BBQ wings. The management really helped things run smoothly and the kitchen staffed worked very quickly. The wings were so tasty I wanted to drink all the wing sauce. The wings were meaty and cooked well. There was a nice quantity of wings boxed. I was very pleased. The DJ was on point and spinned a nice selection of old school jams, new jams and reggae. For 2 hours he kept us entertained. There was a 2nd floor in the basement where we spent most of our time which was nice to get away from the crowd upstairs. I will definitely be back when in the area. read more

I'm sure a number of you had great plans to treat your special lady - your mother - on her special day, Mother's Day. As for my mom & one of my sisters, we normally try to go out if we're not planning anything at home. My mom was highly intrigued by BK9 thanks to one of my aunts being there a couple of weeks before, telling me & my siblings all about it. We took that hint & got a reservation this past Saturday afternoon for six, including a family friend. We all arrive and we're pleased to see we're near the front. It's my second time at BK9, having been there for a birthday. So what I'm going to do is break this review down into pros and cons to justify why it gets 4 stars from me. PROS: The drinks are on point - I had the BK-9 Rum Punch which was strong, and flavorful enough to give the impression that you can have this outside on some patio deck in Montego Bay. The Hispaniola also is a great choice. Our server was highly attentive and was able to get our orders in. When it comes to the food, I enjoyed my oxtail and remarked that it was as succulent as it was the first time I came. Plaintains were more like tostones instead of the soft plaintains one might've expected but still good, along with a decent amount of cabbage. And now, the CONS: Okay. So like I said, I've been here before. So I knew that there was going to be a wait in terms of the food. But I really didn't expect to be the LAST one to get my order out of six people. Like, the appetizer we ordered came BEFORE I got my dish. (But it also came after everyone else got their food ) Now I'm not gonna put that on my server because she was haranguing the kitchen to get it out there. She tried her best. One of our party even went to the back to complain. I finally got my meal & it was hearty. Another issue was that we hadn't gotten utensils until the meals started to arrive, which reflects poorly on whoever's bussing the tables. If it's a change of service thing since we came after brunch, y'all gotta get that rectified. Listen. I'm a first-gen Jamaican-American. I know how hard it is to craft food & drink that suits the tastes of our island folk. We can be some of the severest critics out there. BK9 has great food, I enjoyed my oxtail. But for a place like this, to have dropped the ball in that regard of delivering a dish so late is SO not good. It leaves the server out to dry, & i know others would've taken it out on her. To her credit, she made sure I got a free drink to make up for it. I hope that if this review gets read, that it's clear that I want you guys to do better in terms of the kitchen getting dishes out. I implore you to do better. I would love to come back and have a drink, and I'm sure I'd refer this place to others. But that situation is one thing that I hope improves. The bottom line? My oxtail WAS enjoyable & Mom was very very pleased. and ultimately if she's happy I'm happy. P.S. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. I attended an hbcu event at this restaurant yesterday not knowing what to expect. As a child of a Jamaican father, I certainly appreciate Caribbean restaurants and this spot is no exception. I love the menu and the layout. The jerk wings are to die for and I love the rum based cocktails. I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 4 because of the slow service. I also wasn't a fan of the rum raisin almond cake. I can't recall a time that I was so underwhelmed by a dessert. Not at all what I expected. Other than that, I'm certainly open to returning. read more

BK9 was a great choice for an after work meet up with friends. The atmosphere was great and the HH drinks were delish. The spot is kind of small like most new restaurant bars but that was cool because it was very clean and seating was quite spacious which made it seem a lot bigger than the eye can see. I got there after 6 and made a reservation for 6:45 on open table. What I loved was the table was reserved for 2 but we had 2 additional guest and were able to get accommodations which was fantastic. This is rare because most places would have a fit with a last minute change. It was a Friday evening and about 10PM a DJ arrived spinning some great tunes that took you back to the 80's and 90's. The food overall was good but my friend said the oxtail empanadas were good but not enough meat . I had the green plantains which were delicious so good I had 2 servings. I will be going back I hope the customer service is consistent and the food and drinks as well. read more

They serve oysters, which adds to that aphrodisiac experience of the oh so 'wow this is a former brothel!'. The bartenders and servers were fast and very sociable with the more sociable customers. The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it. We honestly had no clue where it would be and only asked because of how this place was advertised. While it was comfy once we made our way back there, it was reminiscent of a lounge style bar space that almost any bar could replicate with the right room and budget. We didn't feel as though this hit the spot and were let down by this experience. I'm not sure if I can judge the menu of drinks/ foods as expensive, but we left hungry bc we couldn't justify some of the prices. In addition, I've seen a lot of complaints about the volume of the music: it's definitely loud at the front but a lot lower in that back lounge space. This restaurant has come a long way and I want it to succeed for years to come so my review will be all constructive criticism and praises as well. I have been here at least for 6 times in the last 2.5 years and I would like to generally express my opinion Food - succulent food, great flavors, good portions (except for empanadas for what they charge!) but no course order. Food comes out at different times and I have a feeling it's the kitchen because the server always asked first about my starter and then my entree. Not sure what that is but there's a reason it's called a Starter. It starts you off. Open kitchen I like the open kitchen idea but I don't need to hear everything the chefs yell about. That's why I avoid the back section because it's usually loud talks of the kitchen employees (about food but still... please stop yelling and that bell buzz is just too much) so don't sit in the back. Those tables usually don't look set up so I guess that's not really for customers anyway. And it's by the bathroom. So just no. Don't be there. Drinks : I don't really drink so I can't comment on my personal opinion but my husband loves the rum punch here and he said it's always good Service : Service is a hit or miss Some days we got a good service but a few times we had horrendous service. I do not like to put people on blast because this job could be there only income so I don't wanna name names but managers should make sure the servers are not eating in the middle of the dining area, socialize al loud with employees and eat out of their PERSONAL food containers in front of guests or in the kitchen area. I really liked Mikhael's service though! He was always on point. Hey Mikhael!!!! Overall I just want this place to continue being a good Caribbean eatery but I feel certain areas can use improvement. Oh and please please please your dj talks too much....... read more

I came into this restaurant with high hopes, eager to support a Black-owned business. However, alas, my second chance was a colossal disappointment. It's disheartening to see a place with such potential fall so short. When I stepped inside, I was greeted with an overwhelming stench reminiscent of rotten eggs - hardly an appetizing way to start my meal. The atmosphere was further ruined by blaring music that made conversation nearly impossible. It felt like I'd walked into a nightclub rather than a dining establishment - a reminder that patrons shouldn't have to ask for the music to be lowered so often. It's too loud! As if the sensory assault wasn't enough, the service left much to be desired. Our food arrived at a glacial pace as if it had embarked on a world tour before gracing our table. To make matters worse, our pleas for water refills were disregarded. It's mystifying how a restaurant can neglect the basics of hospitality with such fervor. The servers have clearly forgotten the essence of their job. BK9, your shortcomings are glaring and inexcusable. It's disheartening that I and others have shared similar grievances in our reviews. It's not an isolated incident; it's a pattern of poor service and disregard for your patrons' experience. It's time to take a long, hard look in the mirror and realize that change is desperately needed. If you're serious about thriving in the competitive restaurant industry, heed the chorus of voices echoing the same sentiment - you must do better. Read your reviews, for they are a damning testament to your shortcomings. read more

This kitchen has it going on. The passion of the chef came through loud and clear. They nailed nearly every aspect of our dinner and the service was pleasant and fast. We ordered the jerk chicken for an appetizer. It came with three juicy legs, flavored with a complex and attractive blend of spices, not too spicy but with a good kick. The garlic chips and tangy sauce it came with paired perfectly. Could eat a whole meal of this. For dinner, the hanger steak was great, cooked perfectly with a tasty char, plated attractively with delicious black rice, a lentil puree and a good chimmichurri sauce. My wife got the crispy red snapper, which was tasty and juicy, and came with a ridiculously good yucca cake. Drinks were tasty as well - recommend the BK9 rum punch. Strong and not overly sweet. Only complaint: the free bread was dry and a bit bland, they could use a fresher supplier or to bake in-house. A great add to the neighborhood and highly recommended. read more

BK9 is a solid spot if you're craving Caribbean flavors in Brooklyn! The rum punch and cocktails? On point. But the real stars for me were the griot and black rice--so good I had to come back for a second round. I also love that they switch things up with themed menus during events at Barclays; it's a nice touch that keeps things interesting. Now, let's talk about the service. There's no reason to wait to place your order while staff are busy chatting, especially when the place is empty. Unfortunately, this happened not once, but twice. The food is fantastic, but they really need to tighten up on service to match the quality of the kitchen. Would I recommend it? Yes, but patience is required. read more

So firstly my food was served to me cold not hot and fresh. I asked for it to be heated up and I waited patiently for 30 minutes. Then had to remind the waiter I was waiting on my food. Which then took another 20 minutes so I told him it was fine and he could take the food off the bill. Looking for a carnival themed island vibe with great cocktails and authentic Caribbean cuisine,…read morecome to Savannah Spiced located in Brooklyn Here's what we had Drinks Sorrel Punch - The Sorrel Punch is a smooth, creamy cocktail that puts a Caribbean twist on the classic frozen piña colada. Instead of pineapple, it features the bold, tangy flavor of sorrel. Blended with coconut cream and rum, it's rich, refreshing, and full of island flavor. Def a fave and it tastes as good as it looks! Sexy lady - The Sexy Lady is a light but strong fruity cocktail that mixes the fresh taste similar to a lychee martini with the sweet, floral flavor of elderflower and juicy tropical fruits. It's smooth, fun, and a little flirty. We enjoyed this so much that we found ourselves guessing the ingredients! Sweet chili wings and Oreo waffle- The waffle batter was rich and delicious, with that classic cookies-and-cream taste shining through. I just wish it had been a bit crispier and more golden brown--that's my personal preference. Still, the flavor was on point. The wings were the real star perfectly cooked with a sweet, tangy, and spicy glaze that hit all the right notes. Altogether, it was a fun and tasty twist on sweet and savory. Chicken and Birthday Cake Waffle- The waffle had a sweet, cake-like taste with colorful sprinkles mixed in, and the batter was really tasty. I do wish it had been a bit crispier and more browned to give it that perfect texture, but the flavor made up for it. The fried chicken on top was juicy and well-seasoned, adding a savory balance to the sweet waffle. Overall, it was a creative and satisfying take on a classic sweet-and-savory combo. Appetizer Jerk wings- Hands down the favorite of the meal. They were packed with bold flavor--spicy, savory, and just the right amount of heat. The seasoning was spot on and the wings were cooked to the perfect texture. Every bite was juicy, flavorful, and left you wanting more. A true standout. We also can't forget the special sauce on the side--creamy and slightly sweet, it paired nicely with the wings and helped balance the heat. That said, the wings were so flavorful on their own, they didn't even need it. Entrees The Calypso Shrimp- Was beautifully presented as a standout dish. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, juicy, and coated in a sweet and spicy secret sauce that had just the right kick paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes. It wasn't a fave but the presentation made up for it! Oxtail Low Mein - Beautifully plated in an abstract bowl. The Oxtail Lo Mein was a flavorful fusion dish that delivered more heat than I expected--but in a good way. The noodles were coated in a rich, savory brown sauce, and the oxtail was incredibly tender, falling off the bone. Each bite was packed with bold flavors, especially the deep notes of ginger and soy. The spice gave it an extra kick, making it a comforting yet exciting twist on classic lo mein.

With the decor of backlit gold bottles at the bar and dirty large circular fixtures on the side walls, it is trying too hard to be upscale but comes off as tacky. The chairs are velvet and starting to look filthy. The food here was mid at best. The crab cakes were cold in the center and tasted like they had been microwaved. I thought the jerk wings were decent, if not a bit dry. The cocktails were good, we did the Lavender 75, but their presentation was so dead for a 20$ cocktail. They were served with a couple slices of dried lemon and a sprig of lavender with a small plastic straw floating askew in the glass. It seemed like it was our server's first time working, as she just didn't have the intuition and perception down and kept trying to get us to order more drinks after we said no more. She kept coming back and leaving because she forgot what we needed or had ordered. This was an overpriced and underwhelming experience for me and I will not be coming back.

It's so hard finding good restaurants to eat on this side of Brooklyn but I'm glad I researched…read morealil harder and found this gem! Because we were about to celebrate my 18 year old nephew at olive grdn . & my dad is hard to impress sometimes but he was VERY impressed with our food experience here. It wasn't super packed in here on a Monday night as expected so service was pretty good. We didn't know until the end of the night, our server was the owner. It's very chill and dark in there, the decor inside is simple but nice touch with the waterfall wall. Now for food.. I kept it simple with jerk chicken with rice n peas, it was nice and flavorful but I wish I got it with the pasta though. My husband got lobster pasta and I couldn't stop eating off his plate, it was probably the best thing we all ordered. My nephew got oxtail Mac and cheese and that was great as well, they just give you like 4 likkle pieces of oxtail though. Mom got the steamed snapper, was nice a soft and full of flavor. Dad got the honey glazed pork chops, and he enjoyed it. We also had a few drinks, beers, they were decent. Hoping the owner updates their site and menu online so people can know all the great things they offer here! Overall, everything was great! I'd def be back someday and highly recommend!

She said yes, but it was lukewarm, which actually was her entire demeanor, as she was our server. The salmon was okay, the mashed potatoes tasted like Idaho from the box, but the broccoli was good, unfortunately l, they only gave two pieces or so. The dessert was good and so were the drinks. The environment was Great-- the DJ had a wide array of music, both old and new school, of all genres. The backdrop waterfall I would say is a nice touch for photos. Overall, it was an okay experience. Not sure if I would return though.

How this restaurant got under my radar is one for the books. Anyone who knows me knows that I am…read morea foodie, and a darn picky one. After getting back from being out of town celebrating my birthday, I wanted Caribbean cuisine. Thanks to Yelp, I found this gem of a restaurant. First, the place is huge. This is a place for a party. Greeted by Amantha, a vibrant young lady, was a plus. Our visit was on a Monday night, when they have an all-day happy hour. Be careful of their cocktails because when they say "boozy," they mean it. I let Amantha make all the suggestions for us because, hey, if she doesn't know what's good, who does? I always want fish, so she suggested the Snapper, and noted that it would be a 35-minute wait because "everything" is made fresh. Gordon Ramsay would be thrilled. So, we ordered appetizers. Rose's Shrimp Empanadas were delicious. The shrimp were succulent and not overcooked. The Mini Gold Delights, plantain cups filled with Tassot (fried goat) and topped with pikitz (spicy slaw), a must-have!! Both served with their Golden Sauce, a savory mustardy sauce similar to a Dijon vinaigrette. Both of these were washed down with Gen Bagay cocktails (we had two). On to the main courses. I ordered the Brooklyn Red Snapper stew, with white rice and a black bean sauce. The Snapper was spectacular. It was enough for three people. It was heavier in texture than Asian steamed fish, and yet lighter than the cousin Jamaican Escovitch Fried Red Snapper. But baby, talk about flavor. My partner ordered the Blue Goat, a savory, unctuous dish with a rich gravy, served with Djon- Djon, a native rice dish of Haiti, made with black mushrooms, a part of the cooking process, leaving an umami-packed punch of flavor. My man said that this was the best rice he had ever eaten! , If you are not used to eating Haitian cuisine, have Amantha show you how to eat it. There is actually a ritual to blending these flavors, which made a difference. We had leftovers, but the best part is that the food was even better the next day!!! Not many restaurants can say that. They celebrated my birthday, which extended my celebration. Thank you, Golden Blue Restaurant. I will be back, and my out-of-state cousins want to come too. Now I know why, during our visit, many folks were coming in for takeout or Uber Eats! I will definitely be back!
