The food here was OK. The shrimp had hardly any flavor mushroom burger was bland and katsu bowl was just ok The service was absolutely horrific. It took them at least 30 minutes to get our order and then we have to ask cause they kept on disappearing to get our drinks. It was only two people working there and I think both of them were waiters, hostess and cooks. They also include the tip on the bill, but they did don't tell you so you end up double tipping bad business.

Wonderful food and service. I went on a Friday in July and it was busy. Almost so much that the wait staff never refilled our waters but that was ok since the food more than made up for it!

As good as the last time I've been here! The host is also the sweetest man ever! This is how I want to be greeted at every establishment. Food was amazing. I personally always go for the chicken and pancakes but their pancakes with cream and berries are also amazing! My bf got the breakfast platter and the eggs & bacon were cooked to perfection. They also have a variety of cocktails to choose from. We came on a Sunday a little after 10am (when they open) and had no problem getting a table but it started filling up during our meal. Would definitely recommend for a weekend brunch!

I have been to the restaurant a few times. I have been for brunch, lunch and dinner. The food is always great and delicious, albeit a little pricey. However, the staff leaves a lot to be desired, depending on who you get. The one lady is always rude and takes name down for brunch but then calls people in random order. I also do not like that they charge extra for credit cards and they put an automatic 20% tip. The most recent trip, I wanted to order creole BBQ shrimp but they had removed it from the dinner menu. However, they made a custom coconut shrimp with tamarind sauce and it was really good. It was around $28. My friend ordered the fried catfish ($28) and loved it. The mac and cheese and fish was done well and worked together. I got the bread pudding ($14) and thought it was okay. It was tasty but to me it needed something else. It wasn't very sweet and it was big enough to share. In my opinion, their fried chicken is the best, and I wish they would offer it all day. The restaurant is nicely decorated and it has one bathroom which was clean.

Some friends and I met for brunch on a cold Sunday afternoon. You are served on a first come basis. We waited around 30 minutes for a table. The staff were very cool and friendly. A few of my friends had frequented this spot a few times before but this was my first time. The table ordered pancakes with chicken. Me and my friend had the fried chicken sandwich with French fries. Another friend had the fish. We also ordered the salmon hash that definitely stood out from all the food. We all enjoyed our meals and the overall vibe of the place. We saw the owner working and moving along with the rest of her staff. This is definitely a spot to check out and i look forward to returning to check out some other menu items.

I'll start off with.... The pancakes were AMAZING... I also had the omelette, chicken sausage, and home fries, which were good as well... but the pancakes are definitely Top 3. The service was amazing. I came solo but my friend decided to join, and they were so pleasant and very attentive as I waited for her. The servers were so great. I wish I had gotten both of their names. I usually ask when it's great service. I had already been seated and they allowed me to sit there until she arrived. I ended up ordering before she got there and once she arrived so I made it worth while. The restaurant is small but there was seating inside, out front, and out back. So overall it was very spacious. I will definitely return.

It is a small quaint place. Not overly expensive. I was able to get a nice meal for a little under $30. The staff was personable. The service was great. I glad that I finally made it here albeit for a late lunch. Next up, I wasn't to try their brunch. I heard that its delish.i was starving so No food pictures. By the time I remembered my plate was clean.

I had been wanting to visit this spot for a while to support a black owned business but unfortunately, this would likely be my first and last visit. I came for brunch with a large group and we were seated fairly quickly, which I appreciated. The place was full and the vibe was good. However, things got confusing early on. We were different brunch menus. One included soups and salads, and the other didn't. I asked the waitress about ordering a salad, and she let me know that I had the wrong menu and that salads weren't part of the brunch menu. That said, she still took my salad order with a side of roasted salmon hash. When my food came out it was underwhelming. The salad was okay, just a basic mix of greens, and the salmon hash was okay, but tasted like it was missing something. The biggest issue came with the payment process. Prior to ordering, we were told they only accept three cards per group and cash, which was fine. However, when I went to pay with Discover, I was told they don't accept that card. I believe the Discover detail should've been shared earlier. Overall, staff were accommodating, but the experience was just okay.

This is one of those restaurants that I've sworn to try for YEARS but kept putting it off. Yesterday, I was in the area and decided to finally give it a try and I'm glad I did. I got the iced gingerade and the special burger. The gingerade is so refreshing. It's made with ginger, lime, and I believe brown sugar. The special burger came with gruyere and a spiced red onion jam and perfect fries. The servers were really attentive and friendly and the decor/ambience was very relaxing and chill. I'll definitely make a trip back!

I just love Cheryl's. Fantastic place for soul food in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere [1]. I've only come here for brunch on weekends, and I never had an experience that was less than stellar: from the food, to the people, this place is just great. Perfect place if you want to grab a bite after visiting the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Central library, or on your way to Prospect Park. The outdoor patio is great for a relaxing brunch in spring/summer, and the inside is nice and cozy in the winter months. Some of the items I love to get here are: -Three Eggs your way, Bacon or Sausage, Home Fries and Toast (the pork sausage is really tasty) - Poached Eggs over Salmon Hash, Hollandaise Sauce, and Seven Grain Toast - Spinach Cheddar Tomato Omelet or Brie Scallion Tomato Omelet - Fried Fish Sandwich (tilapia, lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce, on a brioche bun) There is also a kids menu, with dishes such as four silver dollar pancakes and scoop of vanilla ice cream, or the brioche French toast with maple syrup. I never had a dish here that I didn't love and would not order again. I also appreciate that prices are still very much affordable. This is a neighborhood spot that is very popular with local residents; as such, there is often a line. 18% gratuity is added to all checks, independently of the number of people in your party. -------------------- [1] You can read more about chef/owner Cheryl Smith here: https://www.cherylsglobalsoul.com/the-chef

    Warm Dinner Bread Pudding

Visiting from Seattle and visited tonight, this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! The catfish and salmon were sooo good, and the bread pudding at the end was to die for. The service was incredible, everyone was so kind and funny. They were so accommodating, and we felt so comfortable asking for anything we needed! It had such a calm and comfortable vibe too. HIGHLY recommend!!

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

Very island spiced and cooked well - Goat was also really strong - Reasonable prices - service with personality What's to jeer - they were out of the jerk chicken unfortunately which I really wanted to try - place is pretty low key and not swimming with ambience

I'm Dominican so I know oxtail pretty well and have made it myself. Thankfully, this place absolutely delivered. The oxtail was perfectly slow-braised, tender, and falling right off the bone -- exactly how it should be. Absolutely amazing. Of course I had the rice and peas, plus some veggies. A few of the veggies were slightly overcooked, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The drinks looked incredible, but I went with the rum punch and loved it. It was a little sweet, but super flavorful, strong, and definitely worth ordering again. For dessert, I had the Hennessy cheesecake, which was rich, decadent, and unbelievably delicious. There were three of us dining, and we all left completely satisfied -- with take-home containers because the portions are VERY generous. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that our server seemed to focus most of her attention on my friend. She is Jamaican, and because I look like a white American woman, I felt a little overlooked at times, even when I had several requests myself. We also had to look for her a couple of times while she was sitting with a group nearby. That said, everyone overall was very nice and welcoming. He had been to the restaurant a few times - and had good things to say. We were not disappointed. I had the Brown Stew Red Snapper - *chef's kiss*. Hubby had the iconic Jerk Oxtail over Macaroni & Cheese Pie! The English language cannot convey the beauty of that combination! Tender, tender oxtail, falling off the bone with the creamy, cheesy mac & cheese! He wanted to savor that dish another day, so he got a to-go bag and took it back to the hotel! (I couldn't help but clean my plate - I was obsessed with the fish!) Our friend enjoyed the Hennessy Fried Shrimp (not pictured) - one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant. It looked delicious as well. For drinks, I had the Bob Marley cocktail. A colorful drink - flavorful - and effective! There were people celebrating their birthdays throughout the night - and the wait staff goes IN! I was enjoying watching at least 10 people receive the Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" song while we were there. Imagine my surprise when it was my turn! My birthday was the day before, and we had already celebrated in Manhattan. Having two special recognition events made the evening that much more special! Shout out to the Simpson crew who came with the song, the rhythm, the sparkling cake, and the good vibes! My 70th birthday was exceptional - without a doubt. The Simpson added the touch I needed.
