Randomly selected this restaurant for brunch and it was a win. I was so pleased with the service, ambiance and food. The server was amazing, funny, and very personable. The complimentary cornbread that they give on the table was very delicious, not dry, moist and perfectly sweet. I had the jazzy mimosa and a tequila lemonade both very refreshing and tasty. Now for the star of the show the steak and eggs I must say might be the best I've had it was juicy, tender, and well seasoned I was blown away. My friend had the fried salmon with grits, man and cheese and greens also a must. The salmon was perfectly fried tender on the inside nice flavor. Stopped here after service on Sunday to grab a bite to eat before going to an afternoon service at another church and the service was quick, fast, delightful. As soon as we sat down our server came to our table and we made him aware of our time limitations and the need to get in and out in thirty minutes. He took our order and within 10 minutes our order was at the table. I had cheesy grits, fried whiting, and salad with lemonade and hubby had Carolina chicken wings, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and Mac n Cheese. Everything was delicious. I'm just sorry I couldn't savor the flavor because I had to woof my food down in ten minutes to get to my next stop. What a darn shame. I haven't been to Cheri's in 4 years so I said let me bring my son for brunch for his birthday with my daughter. We had a great time as usual. Lemon drops to start I forgot to take a pic but was super strong but I'm a lightweight lol. Music in the patio was from a free radio with more commercials than music which killed the mood. Would have been better with no music. Indoor they were playing some great 90s classics. In the patio, sad old moldy flowers were clumsily plopped in the umbrella holes of the table which added a unwanted and uncomfortable eating situation (they encroach on your plate). We started with beverages. If you like hawaiin koolaid or tang like childhood treats then the "mimosa" is something to try. The lemonade tasted old and flat. When the food came out everything looked good but that's where pleasantries end. The fried food, even though was not oily, were placed on a bed of lettuce which had several wilted/mushy greens. My fish although perfectly breaded and fried didn't have much flavor. My mac was sad looking from being premade way waaay ahead of time and cold from not being kept warm. I reheated it at home but sadly it too didn't have much flavor. The collards greens were tasty but severely sweet. It helped add some type flavor to the fish. My partner said the same applies for the chicken, although it was perfectly cooked it had no flavor at all. I would not recommend or come back to this business. Last night i had plans to go to a restaurant but it was a long wait and their kitchen closed in 1hr. We didn't so check out Cheri's, it's been on my check out list for a very long time, and the reviews & food looked good. We arrive, and entered, I thought there was a faint smell of urine but my man said it just smelled like old people, there was table eating. We asked for a table for 2, the lady went to the back and came back and said they were actually closing. I told her online it said they closed at 10pm (it was 9pm), she said "I know but we were slow today and decided to pack up". its the Friday of Memorial Day weekend! This place is such a hidden gem!!! All of the food taste delicious and authentic. It's real soul food that comes to your table freshly made and piping hot. My only regret is that I didn't get an alcoholic drink. The fruit punch was layered and delicious, not kiddy punch. They have a full bar too. I was excited for some southern food, but I didn't like the grits. That said, I really liked the vibe! And the bartender was very nice. I also didn't like the spinach artichoke dip or the bacon. This was my second time here, and like the first - the service was great. It's like I'm visiting family for soul food dinner on a Sunday. Super warm and friendly! Let's talk food. The lobster tails were delicious. They were a good alternative to the catfish that I was hoping for. So it may be safe to say that it is also delicious. However, I wouldn't say the same for my sides. While tasty, they weren't that "I was just cooked today" type of vibe. It's the goodness of the seasoning that made it still very tasty. I'll take the tails but keep the sides, except for the day that they're cooked. Once again, the service was so great - warm and attentive. Before even walking into this restaurant, I had the feeling it was going to be great. We walked into a fierce DJ session by DJ Bazarro, who took me way back to the 80s with some Kraftwerk. An unplanned second visit to Cheri's Bedstuy set the tone for my future visits to this super close to home, super chill establishment. My bestest tween and I didn't feel like roaming the 'hood or hopping on the train Saturday night, but Cheri's was present and we beat the dinner crowd. My girl is picky and not big on meat, but definitely has discerning taste buds when it comes to burgers and fries. All hands on deck at Cheri's are hospitable, smiling and set the great vibe. My stinka was smiling and talkative (rare these days... usually she displays funky 13 year old energy lol). We reviewed the menus and she knew right away that she wanted a burger with fries. I ordered the mac and cheese, along with bbq shrimp, crispy wings and a rum punch. The burger and fries arrived and the burger was beautiful. After snapping a picture and admiring it, between conversation and drinks, she ate her fries and I noshed on the bbq shrimp and mac. Surprisingly, short stuff liked the mac too. She doesn't like everyone's mac and cheese (especially unbaked varieties), and helped me eat most of it. She offered me some of her fries, and they were delicious. Just as I was about to ask, I caught her taking the last bite of the burger, which was devoured faster than grease fire takes over! She said, "It's LIT!" I guess I will find out during my next visit or burger craving moment. So I had the pleasure of dining at this AMAZING establishment. Which is located in the heart of Bed Stuy. It is a family operated restaurant, a mother and her children cooking grandmas recipes. The decor is so Dope feels like a contemporary vintage design. The backyard is beautiful I can see plenty of nice summer meals here. Now the food is on a different level, and it is definitely cooked with love as well as passion. Everything on the menu is cooked fresh no microwaves in the kitchen. I love it, felt like a proper home cooked meal was being prepared for my family and myself. They start you off with delicious cornbread. OMG!!! My wife had the catfish with a side of potato salad and collard greens. When I tell you they cook with love and flavorful seasoning. They truly do. Now myself had the lamb chops, just writing this review is making my mouth all watery. I had plenty of lamb chops from many fine restaurants but none with flavor as they did at Cheri's. I also had the mac n cheese with a side of mixed vegetables. Yummy is all I can say. You can feel the love from every last bite and see the love amongst the family was just as cool. They greeted us as soon as we walked in and encouraged us to sit where we wanted. As I struggled making a choice from the enticing menu after asking for suggestions (and not receiving them because "everything on the menu is good"), old school R&B plays in the background and I'm admiring the beautiful conversation pieces on the wall. First off, I came for brunch, not dessert and chewing the red velvet waffles was like biting into a red velvet cupcake. There was no waffle crunch and it was totally soft and doughy! Then, I bit into the hearty chicken and it was like kissing my best friend-- no chemistry whatsoever! I felt nothing. What happened to the flavor... the seasoning... the excitement of biting into comfort food?? I don't even eat fried chicken on a regular anymore and was slightly irritated I used my very limited set of fried chicken meal credits for this! Ahhh... The shrimp and grits are among my top 5 in bed stuy. Why? Because the shrimp is well flavored and the grits were the PERFECT texture and savory flavor with a hint of sweet. The sweet potatoes and collards/ kale we r good but I love them separately but they were still good. One of my coworkers had the catfish and ate every crumb. The other colleague had the salmon just needs a little salt but there plate was cleaned off with no remnants of food. First things first, I personally believe this place has great potential. This is a newer restaurant and thought I think there are a few kinks to work out I think this place could really go somewhere. The family owned business is flooded with good service. And everyone we met was so nice. With that said, I don't know if we went at a bad time or if they were understaffed but I waited for my food for about an hour and a half before it came out. If you don't have a place to be then take the time to eat here but if you are a little impatient when it comes to timely food service. This is not your place. They did bring us a piece of their signature cornbread for waiting so I always think that shows good service. When my food did come I wasn't the most impressed. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the waffles were good but I wasn't the most impressed with the chicken. I like the vibe of the place so I hope some of the kinks this place has get resolved.
