Fried chicken, mac and cheese, and cornbread. - The image shows a metal tray with fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and a piece of cornbread, served at Cornbread Brooklyn. A person is visible in the background, holding a phone, and a smartphone is placed on the table. The setting appears to be a casual dining environment with a person wearing a patterned top.

This is my new favorite soul food spot in Brooklyn. The food was flavorful and fresh. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The ambiance is clean and comfortable. They have a lot of tables, so there are plenty of places to sit. The fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collard greens were delicious. There is a reason this place is called cornbread. They make some of the best cornbread I ever had, top 5 cornbreads hands down.

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while, so I finally came with my husband and his family. The line was very long, and there's no table service--which I think they should consider adding. The staff was very pleasant, and the playlist definitely set a nice vibe. Just a heads up: they don't serve alcohol. We ordered the fried catfish, mac and cheese, collard greens, and peach cobbler. The food overall was good. The collard greens were very flavorful, and the mac and cheese was okay. The catfish, though, was over-fried and could've been better. My husband really enjoyed the peach cobbler.

My late night meal was absolutely delicious. I was skeptical as I entered and even more skeptical Once they told me they did not have any fried wings. Alternatively, I chose the baked wings and it was delicious! The cornbread was moist and sweet another unexpected surprise Very casual seating and large tables with comfy seating. I will definitely return without a doubt.

Cornbread is on Eastern Parkway, so I was surprised to find street parking right out front. There are two doors to enter, we used the front door closest to the register. The restaurant is big with plenty of seating, mostly booths and a large dinning area in the back. There was no hostess or greeter, we were standing there waiting to be seated. After waiting for a while, we were told by the cashier to order from the menu, grab a number, place it on the table and they will bring the food out. We ordered Baked Chicken with mac & cheese and collard greens on the side. The bake chicken was seasoned well, mac & cheese was seasoned and the cheese was soft. The leaves on the green were big. My sister ordered catfish with potato salad and Collard greens on the side. She loved the catfish! All entree are served with cornbread, the cornbread tasted like a buttery pound cake. The only con is there is no condiments on the table. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Two Piece Chicken Special with greens on the side - A black plate contains fried chicken pieces, cooked greens, and a triangular piece of cornbread. The plate is placed on a metal tray, with black plastic utensils on the side. The food appears freshly prepared and is typical of soul food cuisine.

I couldn't believe how much space was in this restaurant considering it's located in Brooklyn. We were served quickly, but it took a while for the food to come out. It was fine though since we were catching up with friends. I ordered the Two Piece Chicken Special with greens on the side. The cornbread was the star of the show. It was sweet, soft, and perfectly cooked. The chicken was fried and seasoned well. The greens were okay. I would have loved to taste a little vinegar on them but that might be a southern thing. I'd return to this restaurant and try something else on the menu.

Server John recommended the catfish and it did not disappoint. John was welcoming and friendly. It was crispy with a light batter-- moist in the center and fried perfectly. Unfortunately, they ran out of cornbread so I was given an extra side. Potato salad and Mac and cheese were both heavenly. Everything was well seasoned and I loved the flavors. Generous portions.

    Hard , stale rice

Disappointed today! I drove from far because I enjoy the food.,unfortunately I received hard yellow rice. The bottom of the pan hard rice. It's usually moist and delicious. And I ordered two of them. Both hard! I tried calling but couldn't get anyone. I'm so surprised that anyone would even think of serving this to any customer. Any the cabbage was very salty. Definitely a different cook today.? I'm very disappointed ; and the food is expensive.:( I can't I believe I paid $42.41 for this ! What in heavens name happened today????

Need some good soul food? This is the spot to hit up. Came here with a friend for dinner and we decided to try just about everything on the menu. The Fried Chicken tasted great. Battered and fried to perfection and the meat was moist. We also got the Fried Catfish, which I was surprised how that tasted. It is lightly battered and seasoned nicely. The fish itself was not dried out. For sides, the Mac & Cheese and Potato Salad are must have. Collard Greens were pretty good if you're trying to be on the healthier side. Yellow Rice is decent, but I'd probably get the first two mentioned over the rice. We also got a Apple and Peach Cobbler. The Apple Cobbler tastes much better than the Peach. My soul was definitely satisfied from this meal. Only if they opened a location in Manhattan.

Everything was amazing from the food to the service. I didn't think food can taste so good. I will definitely be back.

Absolutely loved the food here on my first visit. It was open late after an event at Brooklyn museum. I got the catfish with collard greens and Mac and cheese. Some of the best soul food takeout in my opinion. I had to double back for more cornbread, wow.

1 star for cornbread being moist and tasty. 1 star for sweet tea Mac n' cheese was overcooked and salty Service is some of the worst I ever experienced. Staff completely ignores any customer. They were constantly forgetting parts of orders. I waited over 30 minutes for two sides and a drink. I asked if anything was vegetarian. They ignored me at first and then could not give me a straight answer. There were a lot of maybes. I had to ask if my order would be ready soon and was ignored three times. I don't know how they stay in business. They don't have any customer service. They don't even give you sauces.

I went to Cornbread with my partner a weeks ago. The food was great! We were soo stuffed after. The service was great as well! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We also loved the laid back ambiance where we could pick where to sit

Side Mac and Cheese - A close-up image of macaroni and cheese served in a black plastic container. The dish features cooked macaroni pasta coated in a melted cheese sauce, with visible black pepper seasoning. The container is placed on a light-colored surface, and the photo captures the dish from a top-down perspective.

The fried chicken was good it could have been a little bit more juicy. The Mac and cheese was good but it had a slightly lemony flavor to it definitely something I never tasted in Mac and Cheese. But they have the best cornbread out there it was not dry very flavorful. It was a nice place to dine in also everybody was very nice.

    Whats the hours of operation?

I'm not sure. But if I can help it I would avoid going on a Friday evening but it's packed. But it depends on the location and when you get there.

This was some of the best fried fish I've had, if we're talking about just the fish itself. The breading is solid - going with a hot level of spice meant there was a good amount of seasoning on top, but I wouldn't classify it as spicy. It was crunchy at points, but missing the flakiness and true crunch I'd associated with top-tier fried fish. However, where it makes up for this is how good the inside of the fish is. This was spectacular - crazy moist, super tender, and just tasted fantastic. The complete opposite of that rubbery texture you get when you overfry the fish. The sauce that came with the fish was a little bland, however As for the sides, I thought the mac and cheese was really good - cheesy, slightly crispy on top, and cooked very well. I also liked the grits - though a bit buttery. The fries were a miss though. For the price, I think around 25 for the meal and a side is a solid deal. The sides especially come with pretty large portion size that will leave you very full. Overall, this is very good Southern food that I certainly enjoyed. 8.5/10

I liked the chicken but I personally wouldn't pay for it again. The best tasting part of the meal was the cornbread but you barely get any of it. I liked the mac and cheese as the best value of the entire order. To caveat this, we did order out, so I'd like to return and update my review soon with a dine-in test. The takeout takes quite a long while and it's pretty cramped inside the actual restaurant especially to wait, so I'd highly recommend ordering ahead of time online.

So..... we went and totally understand the hype. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the amazing dishes and you can literally feel the love they put on each plate as they serve the guests. I almost don't want to share this review for fear that the line may get longer but this restaurant is now one of the few that I recommend you go out of your way to try and enjoy. Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. We ended up getting their lunch specials and picked one main and two sides. I know my girl loves Ox Tails and ended up getting the last plate with some candied yams and Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, we cleaned the plate and it was finger licking good!!! The jerk ribs were amazingly tender and fall off the bone. All of the sides were well portioned and absolutely flawless. Don't come here if you're on a diet there is only one way to enjoy this restaurant and it's to just dive in. FYI - you will need a nap after your meal. This place just hits your tastebuds differently; it doesn't just leave an impression, its mind shattering good. You will sing after the meal - happy dancing the whole time as you're eating.

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.

Located near Vanderbilt and Atlantic Avenue, this spot delivers that down-home flavor that's hard to find in the city. The portions were generous, and I was so full I didn't even get a chance to try the peach cobbler that everyone keeps raving about. But you better believe I'm saving room for it next time. The macaroni was bland and colorless and the cheese was missing! This mac had all the flavor of a hospital meal that was prepped for a patient on a salt free, seasoning free, flavor free diet. The collard greens tasted frozen maybe??? No specks of meat or flavor of any kind. Mitchell's Soul Food is CASH ONLY and it was nearly empty when I arrived. I can see why. Now that we have that out of the way, on to my review. Upon entering this magical place, I was greeted by a lovely woman behind the counter named Pat, whom is part owner and the wife of the chef. She politely asked me if I had ever been there before, to which I replied, no. Before I could even get that one syllable word out of my mouth, she had already prepared me several samples of what would later become my dinner. Mac and cheese. perfectly prepared macaroni (not mushy) enveloped in Rich and creamy cheese (not saucy or soupy at all) It was if the macaroni and the cheese had combined to become one, glorious, velvety smooth creation whose both flavor and texture were near heavenly. Beef Short ribs. Masculine chunks of slowly cooked beef that is fatty and rich, falling off the bone. (no fork necessary) Stewed in its own natural juices, along with some other secret ingredients I'm sure. The meat is soft and tender and requires little chewing if any. Goes very well with the collard greens Collard Greens: A delightful and hearty stewed green that I am almost certain is made with some kind of pork fat (pork fat = awesome). Both savory and sweet, these green are a great accompaniment to any of the main dishes. Oxtail: for those of you whom are unfamiliar, this is exactly what it sounds like. The meat on the tail. It is very bony, but when cooked right (as they do here), it is soft and creamy, and it full of flavor. The correct way to eat oxtail, is pick it up with your fingers, and suck the meat off the bone. Jerk Chicken. This might have been my favorite. The chicken itself, is most likely cooked on a grill first. The skin is crispy, snaps when you bite it, and is rubbed with a medley of jerk seasoning that is very intense. The meat itself, is moist, tender and can be peeled off with your fingers. Ask for a side of jerk sauce for dipping. Corn Bread. This is complimentary, but do not dismiss it. It is soft and moist, with flavors of honey and maple syrup. It is a perfect sweet to complement all that savory. As that was all the samples, I was able to stuff down my gullet, I will conclude my review by saying, if you want soul food, and you are in New York proper, then go to Soul Food Kitchen. Say hi to Pat, and ask her to try a few samples. Be warned, you will walk out with a full belly, and then you will eat dinner.
