Went to Nick's Lobster for a date night with my hubby during Restaurant Week. The location is definitely a highlight, right by the water, and I can already picture how lovely this spot must be in the summer. We would absolutely love to come back when the weather is warm. The service was impeccable. Our server was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of all evening. Now, let's get to the food. I started with the Caesar salad, but the dressing was a bit too anchovy forward for my taste, so I didn't really enjoy it. My husband had the lobster bisque. It was very creamy, but there was hardly any lobster in it. We both ordered the grilled octopus. I wasn't a fan, but my husband enjoyed it, especially paired with the lime based slaw. On the side, we ordered the fried calamari, which was one of the highlights. The calamari was tender, and the sauce really made the dish. For our main entrées, I had the whole lobster, which unfortunately was overcooked and lacked flavor. My husband ordered the snow crab legs and really enjoyed them. Dessert was the best part of the evening. I had the red velvet cake and he had the key lime pie. Hands down my favorite dish of the night. Came here for Restaurant Week, I hadn't been in a while, and the interior has clearly been redone. The space feels refreshed, like it got a full facelift, while still keeping that classic Nick's Lobster vibe. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly kind and attentive. Restaurant Week offered a four-course meal. We started with the lobster bisque and a garden salad, followed by shrimp cocktail. For our entrées, we had the stuffed shrimp and the salmon -- both were well-prepared. It paired beautifully with the wine I chose. Speaking of wine... How much is a potato worth??? Two local customers, apparently. We have been Nick's customers for years, having dined in for special occasions and hosting out of town guests. We went in tonight for a birthday dinner, ordering the two lobster dinners with a coupon. We also ordered a dozen oysters, 4 cocktails and a beer, and upgraded the lobsters with "seafood" (bread) stuffing. Total bill came to just under $190 -- including a $6 potato. You see, the coupon was for "two lobster dinners", which we assumed meant two complete dinners. My wife was served her stuffed lobster, a half corn on the cob and a baked potato. My plate had all but the potato, so I inquired about it. The runner said "only one per table" and quickly walked off. I thought nothing of it and asked one of the servers for it and she bought one out to me. We were in the middle of our dinner when our original server returned and stated that only one of the dinners came with a potato, WHAT?! She then asked another server to bring us the check. I then discovered we were charged 6 bucks for the baked potato which she never disclaimed to us. Needless to say I was disgusted by the pettiness of this, including the behavior of our inattentive server. I've been coming here since I was a kid and so much has changed. The flavored piña coladas are delicious. Go with mango. Everything tastes good but individual preferences matter. It actually is still owned by the family of "Big Nick", the local fisherman that decided to sell lobsters on Flatbush Ave over 60 years ago. Most recently, I came here for a family function and had a good ole time. The service was on point for our large group and so were the drinks. I started off with a glass of the famous "Hurricane Nick" then the table ended up with a quart based on my glowing review. Shoutout to the chef who made the most wonderfully creamy Alfredo that I have ordered at a restaurant in a long time. Honestly was not very hungry when we dined. It was an unplanned visit as we were on the way to another event later on. Just needed a quick bite and noticed that the parking lot was almost empty (they had just opened for the day) . Glad we went in because this place can usually be packed. We decided to sit on the patio since it was nice out and wanted to enjoy the waterside view. We got the fried calamari, organic chicken (buffalo)wings ,Caesar salad and a Greek salad. Staff was friendly and a food came out in a reasonable length of time ( prepared upon order) . Calamari was very fresh and batter was light and crunchy. Dressing on Caesar was yummy. Was here recently to catch up with some of my sorors before we get busy in the chapter again and we had an amazing time. The restaurant is right on the water. We went on a beautiful sunny day and were seated outside. It felt like we were somewhere else instead of Brooklyn! It's beautiful. The establishment seemed well maintained and clean. It's also quite large so a lot of guests can dine here. The service was great and the food was delicious. I ordered the surf n turf burger and liked the flavor and quality. The others in my group had the lobster roll and enjoyed it. The drinks were tasty too. I had a frozen rum punch drink that was cooling in this summer heat. I'd definitely come again. They're open all year round and I'm sure the place is packed on the weekends. Consider a reservation if you plan to check them out on the weekend. I used to lived in a nearby neighborhood for almost 10 years and kinda funny that I never got a chance to try out this place. We arrived a bit early and I got some Iced tea by the bar. Kinda disappointing that the Iced tea is watered down. Taste more of a syrup and no trace of tea anymore. The celebrant/host got us a really good set of food. We came Saturday night to celebrate my sisters last chemo treatment. We were ambivalent about going because the last time we're were there it was during the end of covid and it was awful. What a complete turnaround! Service was outstanding as was the food. We both ordered 1.4 lb lobsters oreganata and they were incredible. Juicy, succulent and flavorful. Perfectly cooked. We actually got lobster forks this time too. We shared a salad as well. The salad was a green salad with goat cheese, almonds and cranberries. In a showdown between Nick's and Clemente's, two seafood restaurants near each other, serving almost identical menu items, offering similar experiences, who is better? Ambiance Both are right on the marina that empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Both are right near the Belt Parkway. Both have on site parking. This is pretty much a push. Edge: Push Service Clemente's carries a bit of a younger vibe, especially in its wait staff. Generally speaking I found the service younger there and older here at Nick's. The service here is slightly faster but also has a bit less people. Less does not always mean more, but they do a slightly better job moving food across the people. It was starting to get busy as the dinner rush rolled on, whereas Clemente's has a nonstop rush. Edge: Clemente's Food I ordered here the fish tacos and a shrimp scampi. While I ordered less here than I did at Clemente's, Nick's I feel does better justice for our nautical neighbors. The food tastes fresher, the respect is higher, and less of a push out. Clemente's threw it in front of me and hoped for the best. Edge: Nick's but slightly Overall What really makes one better than the other is really up to you. If you want a bit of a party and livelier feel, Clemente's has that. For a more quieter, more family friendly vibe, you go with Nick's. I visited on SAT evening. Here is the break-down of my points: Food: 2 stars - appetizer mussels were too salty. lobster roll was burnt and hard. Drink: 2 stars - wine was stale Waiting: 1 star - I waited about 40-45 min for a table for 2. Had to wait another 30+ minutes for food. I didn't get to eat for about 1.5 hours after I arrived. 04/06/23: It's been years since I've been to Nicks. On a recent trip to Kings Plaza needed a spot to fill hungry bellies. They must have renovated I don't remember it being as large and various seating arrangements. Greeted graciously upon entering and was seated within minutes. Drinks Frozen Margarita with hibiscus syrup: wasn't to my liking the flavor didn't work for me. Megroni: my friend enjoyed Appetizers Grilled Octopus: great flavor, consistency just right. New England clam chowder: creamy, potatoes, well balanced also enjoyed Clams Oreganta: just ok for me needed a bit more flavor to make it pop. However, there was sauce that increased the flavor. Additionally..don't judge..we added cocktail sauce. It definitely elevated the taste. Shrimp Cocktail: firm, fresh and tasty with the cocktail sauce. Mains Branzino: wasn't expecting entire fish but afterwards our server stated I could have asked for it to be fillet. For me needed a little bit more spice and I felt it could have been cooked a little longer. However I added some of the sauce from my friends Halibut and taste definitely went up a few notches hence I asked for some on the side. Accompanied veggies and potatoes had a nice flavor. Halibut: well seasoned, flaky not fishy as other places. The sauce delicious. Lastly we had a complimentary sample of Guinness cheesecake yes you heard correctly. It was tasty had a chocolate taste , but not being a chocolate fan wasted on me but my friend enjoyed and I think chocolate lovers would appreciate that unique twist on a cheesecake. Unfortunately, I had high hopes for this spot as for it was highly recommended, but was let down. High prices for mediocre/bad food. For example: Baked clams alone were $30, lobster roll $40 (which is normal priced but it was NOT GOOD AT ALL.. including the bad pretzel bread) grilled sea bass $68 and was extremely difficult to clean. Prices are high this day and age but high prices are one thing but when you get both high prices and bad food it's a disappointing experience and not one I'd ever reconsider giving another chance. I've been here several times but I only ordered clams. I decided to eat in this time and glad I did. I didn't make reservations so I had a 20 minute wait, no problem. It's a fairly large establishment with outside tables but we ate inside. We ordered grilled octopus, mussels, New England Clam Chowder, Grilled Chicken Salad and Lobster Tail. Everything was really good. Although the octopus was very tasty, I felt the portion was very skimpy and not worth the price . I wish I had taken pictures.
