Don't we all just love a positive turnaround? I'm here with an update and a bright side to a pretty "meh" initial review. It's pretty long overdue because I've actually ordered from them quite a few times since my first experience. Let's get into it. I was dead set on never ordering from them again but there was one night that I got home from work super late and needed to eat dinner. Did y'all know they're open till 1AM? That's super cool if you ask me, especially because the other seafood spots around here close early. Now I knew that I wasn't interested in their crab but they have a pretty extensive menu. Sometimes a big menu is a red flag but it came in handy when I was hungry and didn't want to order McDonald's. I decided to go with their fried catfish basket which came with fries. I also ordered their Thai iced tea with bubbles. When I tell you, I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my meal? You would've never guessed I had such a bad experience with them by how happy I was. The catfish was actual catfish. It was seasoned well. I'm usually not a fan of Panko but it was a good ratio of breading to fish so I didn't mind, no one likes a mouthful of breading. I'm also not a big fries person, (real picky) but I actually really liked them. And the tea was also really good. After that, I started ordering other things on the menu. I've done shrimp boils, mussel boils and their chicken wings which have been my most recent kick. Like I said before, I will not order crab from them anymore, but the shrimp and black mussels have all been good every single time that I've had them. The mussels are always clean. I think that they started using fresh corn because I noticed a difference. I stick to their garlic butter with seasoning. The chicken wings.. omg. I am such a fan of perfectly seasoned chicken wings fried without breading. My grandma loved pan frying chicken when I was growing up and it's just one of my favorite meals. As you can see from my pictures, they're not skimpy wings, they are worth it. Always fried fresh, crispy and their Cajun seasoning is good. I do make a note to have them fried well done and extra crispy and I heated these up in the oven because I didn't eat right away, so if you want them to look like this make sure to do that. They also have other seasonings and breaded wings if that's your cup of tea. All in all, very happy with the turnaround and I've become quite the regular.

From the moment we stepped through the doors, it was clear that Ren is leagues above any other restaurant we've visited. Calling Ren a restaurant feels almost like an understatement; it's a culinary journey. The menu is a testament to culinary artistry - each dish, from the appetizers through to the desserts, was a masterpiece. The flavors and textures were unique and memorable, with each bite cooked to absolute perfection. The service at Ren deserves its own accolade - it's a five-star experience in its own right. The waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive, enriching our evening with detailed descriptions of each dish. They didn't just serve food; they presented a story on a plate, explaining the intricate details of the ingredients, preparation, and the symphony of flavors to expect. The ambiance of Ren added to the magic of the evening. The decor was tasteful, the furniture and seating comfortable, creating an environment that was both elegant and inviting. It's clear that attention to detail is a priority here, and it shows in every aspect of the restaurant. In conclusion, dining at Ren isn't just a meal; it's an immersive experience that tantalizes all the senses. While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, what you receive is far more than just food - it's an evening of unforgettable culinary exploration. I wholeheartedly recommend Ren Restaurant for anyone looking to elevate their dining experience to extraordinary heights.

We had stir-fried snails, jellyfish, Dungeness crab, live steamed fish, braised eggplant with fish fillet, stir-fried cauliflower with preserved meats, coral shrimp, sliced conch with crispy tofu, beef with string beans, seasonal vegetables, and fish maw soup. Everything came out hot, delicious, and well seasoned. The Dungeness crab was a standout, and it was refreshing to enjoy such a wide variety of seafood and traditional dishes. My wife was pleasantly surprised by the entire meal. The interior was nicely done and felt different from many other Chinese restaurants in Brooklyn. Service was attentive, and they seated us in a corner where we could enjoy our family conversation without constant interruption. The food came out very quickly, maybe a little too quickly, but we were fine with it. They were unfortunately out of a few fish and clam options, as well as several wines, but it did not take away from a great dinner. Highly recommended for a family-style Chinese seafood meal in Bay Ridge.

My favorite was their chicken, eggplant and salted fish claypot dish. It's one of my favorite dishes in general and they made it very well. Definitely will come here more often and will rec my family to try this place out for our next family event.

I have walked past it many times and always assumed it was closed. Turns out they only serve dinner, which explains a lot. The dining room is small with just a handful of tables, so it is probably best to come early or make a reservation. The tight space and rustic interior give it a lot of charm. It almost feels like stepping into a place that has not changed in decades, which really adds to that old school Italian vibe. The service was incredible. The waiter, who might also be the owner, was so friendly and welcoming. He made the whole experience feel personal, like you were being hosted in someone's home rather than just eating at a restaurant. Since it was my birthday, we went a little overboard with the ordering. I had to pace myself because I honestly wanted to devour everything that came to the table. The portions are generous and every dish we tried was great. The mozzarella in carozza was easily one of the most indulgent things I have ever eaten. It was rich, crispy, cheesy, and completely over the top in the best way. I thought that would be the highlight until the stuffed artichoke arrived. The stuffing was incredible and packed with flavor. I only wish the artichoke itself had a bit more flesh, but I would still order it again without hesitation! The entrees were just as satisfying. The chicken parm was excellent, but by that point we had already gone too hard on the appetizers, so most of the mains ended up coming home with us. Even though we were all stuffed, I made sure to save room for dessert. The ricotta cheesecake was absolutely worth it! It had subtle hints of lemon and the texture was light and creamy. I will probably be thinking about that cheesecake for a while. Overall, Ortobello checked every box. The atmosphere, the food, and the hospitality were all fantastic. I will definitely be back!!!
