Note on Location The…read moreaddress listed as "Black Nile Food Truck, 1140 Utica Ave" on Google is misleading. The correct location is 1140 Utica Ave, Brooklyn, NY, the day we went it was at a designated pickup locker where your food is stored. This confusion added an extra 30 minutes to my trip. Wait Time & Ordering Experience The kiosk estimated a wait time of 6-16 minutes, but we ended up waiting around 40 minutes for our order. That was upsetting. What We Ordered Mains: Fried Chicken, Honey Glazed Salmon, Catfish Sides: Blueberry Cornbread, Candied Coconut Yams, Mac & Cheese Food Quality Catfish: Easily the standout of the meal. Perfectly cooked, an easy 10/10. Fried Chicken: A major letdown. It was dry and under-seasoned, tasting mostly of salt. Honey Glazed Salmon: Unfortunately, there was no noticeable glaze and the fish was also dry. Sides Candied Coconut Yams & Mac and Cheese: Both were delicious and classic comfort food done right. Blueberry Cornbread: Tasted more like a blueberry muffin. While not bad on its own, it didn't complement the savory items well. Value & Final Thoughts Combo platters (1 main + 2 sides) run about $20-$24. For that price and the long wait time (40-45 minutes), I expected a bit more consistency. The catfish and sides were worth the trip, but the other mains left much to be desired. Pros: Halal soul food is a great concept and rare to find. Cons: The chicken and salmon. Would I return? Possibly for the catfish. But considering catfish is halal almost anywhere, and the other mains didn't deliver. Wonderful concept!

We got seated right away as it wasn't crowded on a Friday night. Our waiter Mike was cool as he proceeded to take our order. For our staters we got the crab bites and garlic bread sticks which were both ok. The bread wasn't the softest. And the crab bites in her words was like an imitation fish cake. We then both got the Cajun Shrimp Alfredo Pasta which was the best dish of the night. Our drinks both were EXTREMELY weak it was like drinking juice and for a non drinker like myself that says a lot lol. I got the Henny Colada and she being a Bajan ordered the Bajan Rum Punch which looked NOTHING like rum punch as it came out looking more like a Long Island ice tea. She even ended up ordering an extra shot to help it out. All in all I would come back for the vibes and a different drink of course. Happy eating :)

There was no time like the present to finally give it a try. We made a reservation, and I'm glad we did because the restaurant is on the smaller, cozy side. I would definitely recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekends. They also have happy hour from 5-7 p.m., so we ordered drinks and oysters. The oysters were good, and so were the drinks. I tried the Kid Creole, which is made with Barbancourt, sherry, lime, guava, and simple syrup, and it was delicious. For our appetizers, I had the Summer Crab & Corn Chowder, and it was very good--creamy and well-balanced. My friend had the Fried Green Tomatoes and enjoyed them as well. For our entrée, we both ordered the pan-seared snapper with three-cheese stone-ground grits, truffle oil, and a charred pepper and onion medley. The fish was well-seasoned, and the grits were excellent. I'm not usually a fan of grits unless they have cheese, and these definitely didn't disappoint. For dessert, I had the ice cream, while my friend ordered the bread pudding. The bread pudding was a bit tough and wasn't served warm, as it typically is. However, they corrected the issue, which we both appreciated. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back to try other dishes. I especially appreciated the friendly welcome when we arrived and the excellent customer service throughout our visit.

Upon entering, the hostess was very dry - almost like she didn't even want to work. We were seated and I noticed the sanitation bottle itself was dirty and had food residue on it. We asked for a replacement. The replacement was from another table and this was almost empty. Next, we looked at the area where they were pulling the food out and noticed the female server (Kenya or Kendra whatever her name was), out in the open, cleaning/digging her nose. It was quite disgusting and very unsanitary. Subsequently, She grabbed straws for our drinks . We then watched her grab someone's food and delivered it. We told Mickey who informed her of our observations. We asked him to bring out new straws. She came to our table with sure plates and slammed them on the table with attitude. We refused to touch them because she has yet to wash her hands. She then stood behind us, leaned on the wall and glared at us with hands crossed with attitude. Why give us attitude when you were unsanitary ? Was it because you were called out ? Throughout our meal, she kept glaring at us and being passive aggressive. The appetizers were tasteful . The rib deviled eggs were good but it had an unexpected sweet taste to it. The country omelette was burnt and the shrimp with grits were too watery for my liking. I expected it to be thicker. Wouldn't return.
