MY GO-TO SPOT FOR A FRIED WHITING SANDWICH…read more So they do sell healthy seafood option like steamed seafood and boil options... I ONLY come for the fried seafood. My go-to order is a fried whiting sandwich on wheat bread with lots of tartar sauce. The whiting filets come uniformly breaded with a light coat of breading that I hit with hot sauce on sight and opt for the tartar in the containers to go. I come back because you can actually taste the fish and not just the oil or batter. The ambience is standard fish shop in the front with lots of fish options that seem fresh under heavy blankets of ice cubes. I will warn you that the clean station is across from the counter where you order your food. So if that's not something you are into seeing, hold your neck firm. Stop in and maybe the nice lady with give you an extra filet as she does me from time to time!

This southern kid was deeply disappointed by "the best soul food in Brooklyn." And while the reviews below mine state some of the same accuracy, I went against my better judgement. Let's get into it... they offer a buy one get one deal in Uber and the staff will suggest it to you, which is honestly a good deal. I did not get names but the younger fair skin lady with glasses was the most helpful and another older lady who was probably an owner/partner/manager. There was another younger woman around with braids and glasses that needed a little more customer service training. Her name may be Sharisse or something like that. Food wise.... I had the oxtail cheesesteak. Like other reviews, the fat needs to be trimmed more but they are quite tender. However, I doubt I try it again. For the sides, I was able to taste the Mac and cheese, candied yams, black eyed peas, and greens. That's the order in which the taste is decent. The Mac isn't quite a creamy Mac, it's definitely baked which is cool. The yams were good, just heavily sugared. The black eyed peas were okay but they were lukewarm. And the greens were a miss, I prefer a bit more heat/spice on mine and these had bitter and sweet mixed together. Lastly, I tried the banana pudding and the kool aid. Kool aid was like church punch if that's your thing and the banana pudding was thick. I'm a dessert guy and I maybe only ate a third of it. Overall, it's clean and chill. But it's definitely take out as there is no seating available.

BLUF: Well-made and well-balanced Jamaican food: flavorful, moist, not too greasy, not too salty…read more Dishes we've had: - Jerk Chicken meal, Medium: $14 (cash). The jerk chicken is well-made, soft and tender. Bamboo Walk a few avenues north has a better bourbon-based jerk sauce, but Island Choiz holds its own, because the sauce ("gravy") here provides extra, needed moisture for the rice, while the rice from Bamboo Walk is dry. - Ox Tails meal, Large: $22 (cash). Island Choiz gets ox tail right. The meat and tendon were soft, tender, and flavorful. The sauce is peppery, and a good accompaniment to the rice. The cabbage, bland in other places, had good flavor here. There were six ox tail pieces in our order. Other: Island Choiz has a few tables, but the restaurant seems mainly geared towards take-out, as there is no air conditioning. There is a surcharge for card payment. There are no customer accessible restrooms.

Pretty good Caribbean food out here in Flatlands!…read more A small place with a few tables. No waitress service. Just order at the counter/ hot food display. The oxtails here are cooked to perfection. Nice and tender with the perfect amount of Island spicing. Ask for extra sauce on your rice. The rice with vegetables is flavorful. Nice and fluffy. I've found that some other places, it's still hard or bland. Couldn't stop eating it when it was covered in oxtail sauce. I've also tried the jerk chicken which is pretty good too. Not much ambiance, it's all about the food. Super friendly service. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely try the place. Most people do takeout.

We ordered a fried shrimp basket with fries, a boil bag with crab and shrimp in juicy king special sauce. We got a free order of hush puppies with our order sweet. This sauce was a little thin, im use to a thicker sauce but it was flavorful nonetheless. Will try again

The guy over the phone immediately said it was no problem and sent someone out. I got my food within 15 minutes of that call. Not to mention the delivery guy came up 4 flights of stairs with a cast on his foot. Will definitely be reordering!

I also got stew chicken which was so tender and flavorful, with Mac and cheese and broccoli ($15) . It was a hearty meal that really satisfied everyone. The staff was also incredibly kind. I walked in and got in the short line and ordered my homeostasis meal of a half chicken, sides of yellow rice and beans, and plantains. I also added a beef empanada, as when I see an empanada on a menu my hands are tired. All of this food for $18.06 is a STEAL. I got my plate and took a seat in the back of the restaurant where there is ample seating and black film over the windows to keep the sun at bay. This chicken was fantastic, although not top 5. I have it right at the top of my A-tier rankings for chicken spots, just barely missing S-tier. S-tier is special though, reserved for the Casa Adelas, Malecons, and Caravan Chickens of the world. Sides were great and the beef empanada was special. The beef was so well seasoned and reminded me of how my Granny used to make it. Shout out to Granny! As I'm doing research for this review, I realize they sell a Henny Colada. My only regret in life may be not getting this Henny Colada. I did end up getting the grilled salmon dinner for my daughter, with the rice and peas, minus the salad; lemon pepper wings and buffalo wings. Here's my honest thoughts: Salmon: The salmon itself was GREAT. The plantains were far too chewy and the rice & peas had a weird sweet taste to it. My partner and his family are Haitian so I'm used to their version, maybe that's why? I'm not sure, but the sweet taste didn't cut it for me and my daughter wouldn't touch it. The same was great though! Shrimp: Grilled shrimp from here? PERFECTION. Easily my favorite thing that I ordered. I made a little dip of melted butter, lemon juice and lemon pepper and it was phenomenal. Honestly, i'll probably order this any and every time. My only complaint was that it was for half a pound and the amount of shrimp definitely seemed like half a pound so that was disappointing but the ones I had were amazing. Lemon pepper wings: it was like fried chicken wings with a hint of lemon pepper, mostly salt. Definitely need more of the lemon pepper! But was really good and my favorite of the two wings. Buffalo wings: same breading/style, fried chicken wings with buffalo sauce. But the sauce makes it kind of soggy. The taste of the sauce wasn't bad, but the texture of it soaked in wasn't great. All in all, I'll still order from here and I'm curious to try their jerk chicken. The grilled shrimp will definitely be a go to for me any time.
