I finally went back solo and let's just say absolutely yes I'll be back. I sat at the bar and ordered a margarita on the rocks. $12 happy hour until 6:30. Extra $2 for flavor which wasn't mentioned to me but I didn't mind. The frozen one was too sweet for me. Ordered medium steak because I was hangry. Spicy the boil sauce on the side- get that. It was delicious. Idk what made me order that. I wasn't in the mood for fried food and because the seafood disappointed me the last time I refused to try it again at least for now. There's a fan of the original location in Chinatown, so a friend and I decided to go to this spot for dinner because we were craving. Crab boil. The staff is friendly and service is good. The furniture could use a good deep cleaning or an update. But otherwise the space is clean. The prices are a little unpredictable as of course market rate for bigger seafood items, but it's still a decent option. The food was good and plentiful, as was happy hour is pretty great too only issue was the calamari was super chewy. They remade it, but it was still tough. Definitely would not get it again. This was 1 of the best Cajun Boil's I have ever experienced in terms of taste. The price is acceptable for this quality but may be out of some peoples ideal price range. The service was good. It is not crowded. The spice made us sweat but in a good way. Garlic butter and old bay is my favorite. They do charge 20% automatically if it is a party of 4 or more and limit it to 2 credit cards BUT the bad thing is the automatic 20% bill came and it had a spot to add more tip which is a mistake some could make and that would be tipping over 40% . The food here is SO good. But there are so many issues with this location. For one, I came today for my dad's birthday and it is SO hot in here. Like 75+. I'm sitting here sweating while I write this. Next, there is not enough wait staff but there are so many runners. The runner saw my bag fell off my chair and literally hopped over it instead of telling me or helping a girl out... then we were served our meal (seafood boils; lobster, crab) and were given absolutely no tools to eat our food. When I looked for someone to help us, I locked eyes with one of the runners and instead of coming to me he had me yelling across the restaurant, then did not bring enough crackers for every person at the table. I had to request more. I don't feel this should even be a conversation at a place called "the boil". When we first arrived, we ordered apps and didn't get to see the waitress for another 20 minutes to order more food, that was annoying when I have to beg for the attention of my server. This place kinda surprised me. We were randomly craving a seafood boil and my girlfriend recommended this place so we decided to give it a try. We noticed that they set up the tables to look a bit more fancy or upscale but when you look around, it looks like a seafood shack down south. Our server was great, he constantly checked on us and made accommodations where he could. They also put the bib on you which was real surprising. I came here on a Friday night with my sister and although it was still fairly busy, it was not as packed as I expected. I assume they were understaffed because -- why did I only get refill on my water 2 times and that is with my sister and I waiving them down multiple times. It was not like we could refill it ourselves. It also took 30 minutes to get the bill even though we asked 2 different staffs for it. As for the food, the quality was not as good here, I feel like that was the reason they gave a bigger portion...my usual order is shrimp w/ head on + lobster and my sister's usual order is shrimp w/ head on + crayfish in mild garlic butter. Went on a Monday night which was great cuz it wasn't very busy. The night before we couldn't get a reservation. I've walked past so many times so glad I was able to go. It gives off the expected crab shack of a seafood boil place. Quite spacious as well. The service was quite nice. There was someone in training taking care of us but it worked out. When the boil comes they help you with your bib and provide your gloves and shell crackers for the main event. We went straight in for the boil and it was great. A friend and I arrived just about a hour and a half before closing. It was a Thursday night and TheBoil was nearly empty. I found that rather odd because the avenue was full of people and every other bar and restaurant seemed to have more of a crowd. Our server was kind and he seated us immediately. We ordered two seafood boils, frozen Margaritas and a crab cake appetizer for me. Crab cake was tasty. The accompanying Cajun fries were excellent. My seafood boil was good and spicy but again, only one piece of corn cob. This keeps happening to me. Is there a corn shortage? The music was pretty loud and our server turned it down upon request. The busboy seemed a bit annoyed by our presence the closer it got to closing time. At the end of dinner our bill with the built in gratuity was over two hunnid bucks! Favorite spot to grab seafood from, the shrimp is always super fresh! The crab is also really good and it's never overcooked. Usually, I go for the seafood boil, and I get the queens combo which you can alternate the crawfish for shrimp. If you're not really into spice, I will definitely get the mild. It still has a kick to it, but the medium is a pretty spicy (in my opinion). The garlic bread here is also delicious. I would definitely recommend trying that out with your entrées. Drinks are delicious. We usually go for the classic lemonade. The only thing that I wish would be better is the service. When you're coming to a restaurant where you're most likely going to spend 100 per person you want to make sure that the service is a tentative. Usually when I come, we have reservations but even then sometimes we have to wait a little bit to get seated and then when we do get seated, we have to wait another 10 minutes or more depending on how busy the restaurant is to get our waitress to come take drink orders. It seems that when it's really busy there is only one to two waitresses. The ambience is very pretty in there however it is pretty noisy. We often find ourselves, kinda yelling to hear one another. This very small portion of lobster felt like it was fried and a very odd tasting sauce was on the bread. I couldn't taste lobster or butter. Very disappointed. The fries. Saltless and tasteless. I LOVED the boil! It's a really underrated and lesser known place based on the number of people there on a Saturday night. Make no mistake though this place is GOOD. The service is fast, the bartenders are skilled, the drinks are delicious (one of my fave ever lychee martinis), and the food is even better! We absolutely loved the lobster roll and bread pudding and the portions were huge! The inside is very clean with cute and ocean forward decor. The place was perfect for a lunch with colleagues, dinner with friends or family, or even just a quick drink. The location is perfect with subway and bus close by !!! The space is beautiful. Decorated with sea themes which added to the experience. At times it was cold but the staff adjusted when told. got a Long Island because I didn't know if the bartender makes a strong drink or not. Everybody knows if you get Long Island you automatically get a strong drink but NO mine taste like coke. The taste was good but it's just not hearty like Cajun or Creole people eat. New storm doors are definitely needed tape was used around the perimeters of the door to try and keep the draft in from outside ; epic fail. With the heavy rain pour and wind from last night that tape didn't stand a chance; the rain from outside was seeping in. Ok so let's get back to the dining experience. Our host was extremely attentive and hospitable. Be aware 20% gratuity added to all parties, which is ridiculous. I was under the impression adding automatic gratuity to the bill is illegal. The % of gratuity should be granted based upon experience. For entree I had the catfish basket with a side of corn and broccoli. My friend ordered the seafood boil ( crab legs and shrimp). I just want to flag a side of butter is 4 dollars, which is insane. Although the food took some time , it was freshly prepared. However look at the catfish given to me smh it's given kids meal. Went to The Boil this past Saturday since they started serving brunch and I am happy I did. The food was incredible, ambiance was amazing and the service impeccable. The chef was so kind and sweet to come out to make sure I was okay and I liked the food and even if I had any suggestions on making the dish better. The manager was so gracious and made sure I was enjoying my meal. My server Isis was very attentive and so sweet. All in all The Boil is a total vibe and worth checking out now that they serve brunch definitely my top 3 restaurants overall for dining experience. If you are a seafood fan, here is a place for you check out. Did remind me or New Orleans with the amazing boil serving which you can have in different ways and with different combinations. We started off with half a dozen of fresh clams and oysters which were superb (5 stars). We also included a soft shell crab as our starter, DELICIOUS!!!! Came with coleslaw and Cajun fries yummy!!! I was super excited when I saw The Boil was opening up in Brooklyn since I haven't been to their Chinatown location since before covid. (insert crying emoji) The place is decorated to reflect a maritime theme and looks like a nice sit down restaurant rather than a hole in the wall vibe. While some of the food was good it definitely wasn't great and the quality was a bit lacking. They do serve their boils in bags now but I get what the other reviewer is saying about trying to make it fancy since their apps are now served on a plate instead of baskets or paper trays. The fried calamari which was good. The fried catfish was good but the fries (regular and cajun) tasted the same and we couldn't tell the difference between the two. The Maine lobster roll was disappointing because the lobster meat didn't taste fresh and wasn't sweet at all. The shrimp boil with the special boil cajun blend was also disappointing. I always get this blend from their other location and it's really the secret sauce that has me craving it and wanting to go back every time. This time? Not so much. I couldn't taste the butter or the garlic. It just lacked that oomph that makes it from good to amazing. The shrimp quality was also half/half...half good bouncy juicy shrimp and half bad mushy not so fresh shrimp. Overall, I would love to see this place improve and get better. The food was very affordable and the gloves that we were given to eat the boil was the tough black gloves, which I loved because no grease leak through the gloves. It's pretty hard to find a good seafood boil in the city and I feel like this met my seafood boil expectations. The tables were very clean and the bathroom was really nice. Pretty great honestly. I got 1/2 crawfish 1/2 shrimp with extra sauce. I got the Cajun seasoning with medium heat. It was really yummy but was a LOT of food. Thank God they let you share. The shrimp were huge and the crawfish were great. SIDE NOTE: They add the tip to your check. I noticed only because I took a Quick Look over the itemized receipt. First of All, the service was polite and efficient and they collaborated "Together" no "one up man-ship" just all hands on deck to service the public at large. The restaurant itself is nice, clean and tidy. The meatiest of the meaty is the best words to describe the crab meat and shrimp at "Large". They both were succulent Joy for my palette and tummy and the happy hour margaritas didn't miss either. I almost forgot...The corn on the cob though I know it's a basic but, this basic was...just the right texture, size and taste right off the cob. I ordered the 1-3/4 dungeon crab w/ shrimp and a cluster of snow crab legs to boot all in a medium spiced seasoning. Last but not least, the price wasn't astronomical.
