Never got to try the food because the host was despicable. My partner and I walked into this spot on Sunday 4/26/26, 11 am. We just moved to Boerum Hill, 2 streets over so we were super excited to try the spot. The host was incredibly disrespectful. In my last decade of being an avid Yelper, I have never left one negative review until now because of his disrespectful and dismissive he was. Miserable looking man who, when we kindly asked to be added to the waitlist since it was our miss to not have reservations, told us that seating us wouldn't be possible. I stopped by Verde on Smith in Brooklyn one afternoon with my boyfriend after he recommended it--he'd been before and said everything on the menu was great, and he was NOT lying. This spot is such a good find if you're into hearty Italian flavors and generous portions. Even though it's Italian, they also serve brunch, and we decided to keep it simple. I ordered the scrambled eggs which were surprisingly flavorful and perfectly cooked--creamy and not overdone at all. My boyfriend had the pancakes, and I swear those things were huge and so good--soft, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness without being over the top. Portion sizes here are big, so honestly it's a great place to share plates if you want to try more than one thing. We also had the blood orange passion fruit juice, and it was refreshing and delicious--sweet but still light enough to enjoy with brunch. Overall, great food, good portions, and a cozy vibe. We came to Verde on Smith to celebrate a birthday but we've always seen this spot when we are in the area. We were here for a dinner(ish) situation so we did not get to try their brunch menu items. What we did have were lots of different appetizers, eggplant parm, meatballs, calamari, all of which were pretty tasty. As for main courses, I got the steak and the portion size, first was huge! It was also pretty delicious. We finished with chocolate cake from the restaurant and wow, while it was a tad on the sweeter side, it was heavenly. WIll be back to try more! read more

For one thing, Sunday brunch seems to draw a long line resembling a club crowd. Never saw this before years ago. Perhaps it's the boozy brunch but speaking for myself, I prefer to steer clear from such crowds. After an absence, we decided to have brunch here today. Luckily it was quiet and we were seated quickly. Our server was super nice and hospitable. He answered any questions and service was attentive. My order was the Swiss Omelet. A 3 eggs omelet with Swiss Cheese and Mushrooms, I opted for home fries in lieu of the Fries. A small salad also accompanied the meal. My drink of choice was an unsweetened Iced Tea. Refreshing. The other order was Eggs Florentine with Fries. Though I enjoyed my selection, the Egg Florentine wasn't given 2 thumbs up. For one thing, the eggs weren't hot (maybe it was left on the counter for a little while), the Spinach wasn't too flavorful and the Hollandaise sauce was skimpy. This was my first time at Verde's. I went for brunch. We were able to walk in without reservations and be seated. We sat in the back which is partially covered. I enjoyed the calming music and breeze (they have fans) BUT the flies and bees were a nuisance. My food wasn't hot- not even the fries. I think that would've made it more enjoyable. They have a full bar and we enjoyed some well made cocktails first. Their baked clams oreganata and zucchini fritters were very fresh and just the right amount of breadcrumbs. It's time to let bygones be bygones. Yes, in 2011, some waiter here decided to bring me a sausage dish without sausage, and I took that personally. But in the ensuing 13 years, Verde on Smith has changed ownership, changed staff, and is essentially an entirely different restaurant. It's no longer just a nice little Italian joint; Verde has now a built itself into a nice little Italian joint that also doubles as an AYCD birthday brunch powerhouse on Smith Street. Whether or not you're in the market for a bottomless brunch, this is a good spot for your group. (My toddler taps out after two or three mimosas, so it's not really worth it for us.) The menu is full of Italian staples that are executed solidly (chicken parm, lasagna bolognese, spaghetti carbonara, etc.), if not remarkably, and there's something for everyone (including burgers, steaks, wings, chicken fingers and fries if you're not in an Italian mood). There is usually a table available, and the service has been uniformly excellent the last few times we've been in (almost too attentive), and they are trying to turn tables so you won't wait too long. All in all, Verde is often a last-minute choice for us when we have four or more, didn't make a reservation, and need a spot that appeals to all. And it delivers. read more

Four weeks before our event, I personally spoke with the manager Marco and we agreed on a clear arrangement -- deposit paid upfront, remaining balance settled via invoice through my school's accounting department after the event. This is completely standard for school-sponsored bookings and he had no issue with it at the time. I planned an entire event around that agreement. I brought 30 people into this restaurant. Faculty, alumnae, students. It was the first event of its kind for our organization and one of the most meaningful things I have ever organized. As we were leaving, Marco stopped us. Demanded payment on the spot. Refused to let us go. Accused us -- in front of our entire group -- of trying to run out on the bill. I am a law student. I was standing there with professors, attorneys, and young women who look up to me, and I was being spoken to like a criminal. I reminded him calmly of exactly what we had discussed. He kept repeating "that's your problem, that's your problem." There was no misunderstanding. There was no confusion. There was just a man who decided in that moment to be cruel. The balance was paid in full within the hour. When I reached back out to confirm and share how his behavior had made me feel, he sent a long email full of payment disclaimers he had never once mentioned before or during the booking process. Not four weeks ago. Not the day of. Only after. I have never in my life felt so disrespected at a place I spent money at and brought business to. We chose Verde on Smith because we believed in the space. Marco made sure we will never come back. Possibly the best Italian spot in Brooklyn. I came for dinner on a weekday and didn't need reservation, although I know it gets packed for brunch on weekends. I got baked clams and crab cake. The baked clams were so good and big, you don't really find baked clams as big anywhere in BK as they offer here. The crab cakes were way too small for the price but it's okay. I was surprised with the complimentary bread with diced tomato on top, it was a nice surprise. The carbonara was so so good. It would've been nice to have chopped mushrooms in it too but it was so so good already. It leaves me feeling warm instead way after I finish swallowing a bite of it. It gives me that wholesome warm full fuzzy feeling authentic Italian pasta should. We also got steak on the side for an extra 8 dollars and let me tell you... the steak is sliced thin so that you can really savor the taste for what it is. Came here for Christmas dinner after searching for a place just a few weeks prior. It was hard finding a place open on a holiday that also had good reviews. Came upon Verde on Smith and decided to give them a try since this was a new place for my family. I feel like we struck gold coming here! It's in a great, trendy location in Brooklyn, not far from the Carroll Street F/G stop and just a short distance from the bustling area of Downtown Brooklyn. We arrived for our 5 PM reservation and was seated promptly by a table right by the door. Not the best spot because it was a chilly evening and we kept getting blasted with coldness every time someone came in. They offered to move us/bring a space heater out but once they turned the heat on, we were good. The wooden chairs were slightly uncomfortable, but that wasn't too concerning. The vibe is chill. Not too fancy, but smart casual. It was very clean and spotless. They were playing Italian holiday songs which made me feel right at home. Service was fabulous. Kept checking in on us through the entirety of our stay. The menu is fairly large with a wide range for just about anyone's taste when it comes to Italian. Started off with the $14 glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. It was smooth and hit the spot. For my appetizer I got the Calamari Fritté. For the price of $16, you get a HUGE portion! Not many restaurants can pull off a good calamari. Verde on Smith does! The flour breading was light, crispy and seasoned well. The calamari was tender. Was pretty easy for my brother and I to devour this in minutes. For my main I got the Shrimp Scampi. I opted for the risotto accompaniment instead of the pasta. It was supposed to come with Brussels sprouts, but it didn't so that was a disappointment. Also, the risotto wasn't an authentic risotto. Tasted more like an instant one. It wasn't bad, just wasn't a true risotto. Besides that, the meal was yummy! The shrimp were huge and the Scampi sauce was out of this world. The side of vegetables were seasoned deliciously. I pretty much licked my plate. For dessert I had the Creme Brulee. Again, not everyone can make a good Creme Brulee, but they executed it well! Perfect hard shell with a creamy custard underneath that wasn't too sweet or heavy. Fabulous. At the beginning of the meal we asked if the check could be split. Our waitress seemed a but confused but said she would. At the end of our meal, she brought the check out not split and when we asked her to split it again, she got confused and didn't do it the right way so that was a bit annoying. Prices here are pretty reasonable amd you get a 5% discount if you pay in cash, which is what we did! Besides the risotto & the splitting of the bill, I have no hard complaints about the place. Food is absolutely delicious, good prices and was hardly a wait for any of our food. People were walking in without reservations on a holiday and most were taken in so that's also good to know. The savory chicken crepe is also tasty. On my last visit, my group of six also shared two pitchers of bellinis: mango and peach.
