Gentrified Caribbean Food! I've passed this restaurant so many times that I was basically in a situationship with it, so I finally stopped by on a late Sunday. The place is super clean and cute--definitely date-night approved. The drinks were delicious, so I was already feeling optimistic. The menu had so many good-sounding options that I was ready for a whole Caribbean moment. I ordered the jerk pork, and he got the Soca pasta with shrimp. Now... the "jerk pork." It wasn't giving jerk. It was giving "sliced pork loin with a smoky BBQ sauce that once saw a picture of jerk seasoning." Tender? Yes. Authentic? Not even a little. The rice also said, "I'm inspired by the Caribbean, but I don't actually go there." I tried the Soca pasta and it was basically pasta in a cream sauce--good, but not out here trying to win awards. Don't get me wrong: the food is delicious. Just know that if you show up looking for real, authentic Caribbean flavors, you're gonna be confused. Come with an open mind... and maybe low expectations for authenticity.

Eggs were supposed to be scrambled in the jerk chicken sandwich but we're overly cooked fried eggs.

Really really not good unfortunately. Very little about this place is Caribbean. Food was clearly reheated and atmosphere was pretty bad. DJ playing sad kinda corny RnB on Sunday brunch (and I love RnB!!) The server was disinterested and quite rude to be honest. I'm not someone that leaves bad reviews or complains in restaurants unless something is really not right but her attitude sucked and we decided to pay and leave without finishing our food. Our food was sub par and honestly disappointing. Had high hopes coming in hoping for a more authentic Caribbean vibe and flavors. The 20% mandatory service fee is also just an insult and a sign to me that they're not doing something right. I for sure won't be coming back.

Amazing food, music, vibes. Owner is super friendly. Parking is trick but you will eventually find a location. The food is very interesting, not only is it Caribbean, it's a fusion so does also offer Spanish dishes such as empanadas which are delicious! I'm highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for a Caribbean fusion twist.

Shrimp and grits

As always, Cross Road delivered. Yesterday I enjoyed the pre fixe brunch with my friends. We were a group of 3. There was no wait. The food was delicious!!! It was actually my first time trying birria empanadas and I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful they were. The grits had cheese in them and the shrimp were succulent. The pre fixe brunch comes with one drink- I had a peach Bellini. Top tier!! And all for $30! You can't beat that deal!!

Great place for a date not overly loud music but great vibes and energy. The staff was friendly. We ordered the mango habenero wings for an appetizer and we shared the jerk pork. The wings were fried crispy great texture the flavor didn't really come thru.. The jerk pork wasn't authentic tasting however the rice it came with was good. The cocktails were creative i ordered a spiked sorrel that was nice and the rum punch that did tun up! The portions for the prices ehh... inflation lol but overall the spot is decent nice additon for the area. Beware parking is tight, you may drive around the block a few times lol

Island Shrimp

Met a few friends here for dinner. Restaurant is cute with good music playing but not loud. While we waited for everyone to arrive we hung out at the bar and had a margarita and a couple appetizers. Once everyone was there we went to a table. To our surprise they were participating in restaurant week, $45 for app, entree and dessert. So we all did that. Everything I got was good. That island shrimp is a delicious. For my entree I got the salmon, really good. Then the coconut creme brulee for dessert so yummy. The staff was very nice and friendly and seemed unbothered as we cackled the night away. Definitely recommend and would return again.

The food here is amazing! I ate everything (which I don't do often. lol) Went for brunch and ordered off the prefix menu, which included a drink, appetizer, entree and desert. I got the birria empanada and it was delicious! The fried chicken and biscuits was a little tricky to eat because it didn't come as a sandwich, so I ate them with a knife and fork. Both were really good, though. I'd read the reviews before coming and the lychee martini seemed to be their go to drink. I tried it and it didn't disappoint. So good. The service was prompt. The staff were very friendly and attentive. And the actual restaurant had a good vibe. I'd definitely return.

Churrasco Steak and ginger burst

Stopped in for a quick bite. Had one of my faves, the island shrimp with a ginger burst, YUM! The island shrimp are nice and crispy, with a spicy/sweet sauce. It was a little spicer then last time, but still very enjoyable and some people would really appreciate that. The ginger burst is so flavorful and enjoyable. My partner had the soca pasta, very flavorful and perfectly cooked chicken and noodles. Staff was friendly, music was great and as always very clean.

The food was great! I ordered the shrimp grits and I loved it! Service was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive. The ambiance was very calm. Music was low enough for us to talk but loud enough to hear.

B.B.Q Jerk Chicken

We went on a Friday around 7pm. It wasn't crowded at the time but it started to fill up around 8. The ambiance was great. It gave a vibe between casual and upscale. The food was good but wasn't quite what we expected. We had the Mac and Cheese and crab cakes as appetizers. We really liked the crab cakes but we expected the Mac and Cheese to be baked instead of being saucy. Wasn't bad though. I had the BBQ Jerk Chicken as my main and my partner had the lamb. The Jerk chicken was well done and the flavors were balanced but it felt like it was missing something compared to the Caribbean food I'm used to. My partner wasn't a big fan of the lamb. It was a bit gamey but she thought the rice was ok. The drinks were on point and strong! It was a bit pricey and had a mandatory service fee of 20% but overall it was a good experience.

Birria empanadas
Geraldine E.

From the delightful Chicken Satay with mango salsa to the birria empanadas accompanied by a tasty consume. The succulence of the honey jerk chicken is enhanced by the perfectly paired cilantro rice; usually served with rice and peas. The double cheese burger with cabbage, grilled pineapple and Cajun fries made it a satisfying meal. The cocktails were great and there is one for all types of drinkers. Beyond the delicious offerings, this intimate spot has a fully covered backyard that provides a cute relaxing ambiance, complete with hookah( Friday-Sunday) and more. The service was great and the staff were friendly. Shout out to the bartender, Brian Host (dolce)enersto and Jessica and Luis. They offer weekday happy hour from (Tues-Fri) 4pm-7pm. From the moment we arrived, the service was flawless -- warm, incredibly attentive, and perfectly paced. The refreshments were so great for a celebration. The Cocktails: Expertly crafted and sophisticated. It was refreshing to have drinks that were perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The coffee was served alongside dessert, it was rich and the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful meal. While the Filet Mignon was a popular and well loved choice among our group, and the Meatballs were universally raved about for being truly excellent, the real showstopper for me was the Chicken Parmesan. I don't typically order steak, so I was delighted by this choice. The cutlet was impressively sized yet elegantly thin, showcasing the high quality of the chicken. It was served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, which was such a comforting and delicious pairing. It did remind me of visiting Germany believe it or not like a schnitzel style cutlet but still very italian if that makes any sense. If you visit, you simply cannot miss the fried eggplant appetizer with burrata. It is divine! This dish alone would be the perfect excuse to drop by for a casual dinner date or a "girls' night out" centered around appetizers, wine, and to try a dessert. I would absolutely return!

The fried calamari could've been less oily, as this took away from the crunch; also slightly overcooked. Baked clams were decent. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Pizza was great! They reheated for us, since our group was too busy chatting. Desserts - phenomenal! Drinks- ehh. Brunch menu - French toast was decent. The salmon over hash brown , was lacking a touch of something , couldn't pinpoint what was lacking. Chicken and waffles, decent, wasn't the best I've had. Service- jonathan was our waiter during brunch and also our bartender. He's GREAT! During service dinner, we had a female waitress and I felt she lacked attention to details and couldn't flag her down when we wanted something. Overall, service is a hit or miss , I guess? The salvaged wood interior and candlelit ambiance create this inviting space that feels both historic and lived-in. It's cozy enough for a relaxed family dinner but still feels special. We've worked our way through quite a bit of the menu over the years. The mushroom tagliatelle is rich and satisfying, the crispy chicken sandwich hits the spot, and the charred orange cauliflower couscous topped with smoked salmon is a real standout--beautifully balanced. The pan-fried okra and fried shrimp are great for sharing, and the rainbow beet salad adds a nice fresh note. I also appreciate how kid-friendly they are without dumbing anything down. My kids are happy with their chicken poppers and quesadilla while we enjoy the more adventurous stuff. The place is named after Jacques Cortelyou's famous 17th-century map of Manhattan, and somehow that history feels present without being gimmicky. It's just a really solid neighborhood spot that makes you appreciate Ditmas Park. The flavors and textures were unique and memorable, with each bite cooked to absolute perfection. The service at Ren deserves its own accolade - it's a five-star experience in its own right. Based on the quality of the food I tried, I do think the menu prices were way overpriced (prices would have to be halved for me to think them reasonable). Of the appetizers, I think the short rib tacos were def my favorite. The empanadas confused me (flavors didn't work together; also NONE of us could tell what the meat was) and the chicken tenders were nothing special. Salad was ok; it was fresh but again, nothing special. I'm not sure what steaks we were served, but I found them overcooked. Enjoyed the accompanying potato wedges more than the steak, tbh. I love to support neighborhood gems because majority of restaurant owners here, love their clients, establish loyalty through cooking delicious food and provide consistent great customer service. I was in the mood for a " comfort food"breakfast, you know, eggs, avocado, mozzarella, tomato, deliciousness and I found it on the menu simply named "Breakfast Sandwich". Which consists of voila: Mozzarella, avocado, tomato jam, arugula, crispy bacon, dijonaise, sunny side up egg between multigrain toasts. I ordered this sans the bacon ( requested turkey bacon which they do not have). What arrived in my plate was this decadent open faced egg sandwich that looked delectable.. and was!! Let's first talk about the wheat toast: I tasted it naked and it simply melted in my mouth. The ingredients worked well together, perfect synchronicity. I used one half of the toast to sop up any fallen ingredients. Highly recommend! For a drink, I wanted something a bit different, thus, ordered the Mango Mint Peach tea, fruity with a hint of mint.
