I love to support neighborhood gems because majority of restaurant owners here, love their clients, establish loyalty through cooking delicious food and provide consistent great customer service. I was in the mood for a " comfort food"breakfast, you know, eggs, avocado, mozzarella, tomato, deliciousness and I found it on the menu simply named "Breakfast Sandwich". Which consists of voila: Mozzarella, avocado, tomato jam, arugula, crispy bacon, dijonaise, sunny side up egg between multigrain toasts. I ordered this sans the bacon ( requested turkey bacon which they do not have). What arrived in my plate was this decadent open faced egg sandwich that looked delectable.. and was!! Let's first talk about the wheat toast: I tasted it naked and it simply melted in my mouth. The ingredients worked well together, perfect synchronicity. I used one half of the toast to sop up any fallen ingredients. Highly recommend! For a drink, I wanted something a bit different, thus, ordered the Mango Mint Peach tea, fruity with a hint of mint. Loved it and went well with the Sammy! There are lovely options besides breakfast sandwiches like quinoa, oatmeal, granola, pancakes, French toast.. breakfast is served all day and lunch is served @noon. I arrived before 12 and was told I can order breakfast or lunch. It has a cozy, intimate vibe which I love.. one where you can dine solo, or do work or read or just enjoy the fabulous food. Came here for brunch and arrived around 1120ish AM. All the tables were filled so I put my name down and waited outside. It took about 10-15 minutes for us to get seated and the service was so friendly. There was so many delicious dishes and I decided to go with the lebanese skillet breakfast and a cappuccino. My friend got the pulled pork bowl and we decided to get the pancake to share. The dishes came out pretty quickly and at the same time. It was so hearty and filling and wasn't heavy at all. The pancake also had a great taste and crunch from the skillet. It wasn't sweet at all so it was easier to eat. The portions are perfect! I usually go to their Park Slope location, but I stopped by the Bay Ridge one for a late morning brunch and loved it just as much. The space has that cozy, homey Bay Ridge vibe, feels bright, casual, and unpretentious. Service was friendly and attentive. The food here is inventive yet approachable. My must order is always the chicken liver mousse, hands down one of my favorite things on the menu. It's so smooth, rich, and creamy, honestly legit. I just wish it came with better or at least warm pita to do it justice. I also really like the breakfast sausage skillet, crispy lox potato, and Spanish breakfas, all flavorful, balanced, and perfect for the cozy brunch mood. I tried the Reuben sandwich this time too, flavor was there, but the bread was almost inedibly chewy, kind of a dense rye sourdough situation. We were in the neighborhood and wanted to tried this place on a Sunday afternoon. Ended up waiting for almost an hour. The place is very small and less than 10 tables in side. The food is decent. Nothing stands out much. Chicken liver mousse-not my kind of thing. The liver tasted a bit fishy to me. But my friends like it. 4/10 3 poached eggs skillet-looks better than its taste. Lack some kind of flavor to make it pop. 6/10 Chicken sandwich-flavorful. Fries is a plus. We finished the fries. 7/10 Chicken and waffles-not bad. If they give some syrup on the side, it might make it better. 8/10. If you don't want to wait a long line, don't come here on a Sunday. We stopped by at 1:30PM on Sunday and didn't get seated until almost 2:30PM. There's no waiting area inside so you have to wait outside. It's not worth it to wait in the heat on a summer day. I am such a fan of the Commons and was reminded of how great of an establishment it is after visiting their newly opened location in Park Slope. The food was so good it brought me back to its location closer to my home, and had yet another great dining experience. Wait times can be quite long at this location but I love their versatile and extensive menu. They have a great selection of smaller brunch fare to food coma inducing skillets (THREE EGGS IN THIS ECONOMY?) Prices are incredibly fair, and the waitress is super sweet and attentive. I really enjoyed the Croast I ordered the other day which was crunchy and accompanied with a generous mushroom gravy. The gravy was so good that I cleaned up my plate squeaky clean. My husband ordered their meatball skillet and personally enjoyed it more than a Shakshuka. Will definitely be back to try more items on their menu! read more

When my husband suggested we come to the Common for breakfast during our stay-cation, I was 1) surprised he picked a place and 2) that none of my friends had already recommended we give this place a try. We did however make the mistake of not making reservations before coming on a Wednesday morning after 10AM and know better for next time. Their menu is very unique with bold flavors and it worth a thorough look over before sitting down. Make the most of your wait time and really read it over, and ask if they are also serving lunch as well, which will further confuse you in your decision-making process. After looking at their pictures here on Yelp, I was firmly decided on their caramel hot latte while my hubby wanted to try their iced pistachio coffee. To me, my caramel latte was a the clear winner when it not only came to presentation, but the TASTE as well! Delicious down to the last sip! I tried to lick the inside of the mug once or twice, but didn't want to further endure the looks my husband was giving me across the table. For the main entree, I decided on their Croast, which is fairly new to their menu. This is a croissant with a poached egg on to, smothered in a cream mushroom sauce - what's not to love?!? This dish was fabulous! The depth of flavor and savoriness far exceeded my expectations of the portion. The portion isn't huge for a reason, and allows you to take in every taste your tastebuds can offer. My husband's breakfast sandwich was simple and yet packed a surprising punch with their bacon jam. First time here. We ordered 3 poached eggs with chilli in skillet. Very disappointed!! It actually made us nauseous and we could take only a few bites. The dish smelled like a dirty kitchen sponge and the taste was just not good. Creamy and bland. We left our food untouched and the waitress wouldn't even ask if we were okay considering none of the food was eaten. Just put a tab on our table and told us to wrap up because they need a table. We weren't even sitting long... not a good impression at all. They make have some good dishes but my first impression makes me want to not give them another try and look elsewhere. DISAPPOINTED! Originally, we were going to a diner but the prices were higher than we'd like and upon looking at the menu here, we thought the price was reasonable and the dishes looked good. We had the in a skillet- three poached eggs in sweet chili sauce with onion, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, cotija cheese, sour cream & grilled pita ($17). The description sold me on the dish. I found it to have a great acidic flavor and I think it was just missing a savory salty piece to the dish. I would've ordered a side of something to go with it. I wanted to try the sausage and grits. Upon sitting down, it wasn't on the menu so I had a delicious Croast ($15). it worked really well together. With the first bite I had a zesty acidic arugula, warm croissant, with flavorful mushroom and sauce. The truffle tapenade wasn't really needed or made enough of an impact. We'd definitely come back and try their other dishes. The place is small and gets packed really quickly. We got there shortly after 8 AM on a Sunday and it was already filled with local. Finally have a breakfast place in bay ridge. I like being able to put your name on a list and they call you so you can wait outside in good weather or in the car in the bad weather. Price point is very fair and place is clean. Service was good and we didn't feel rushed at all. Coffee refilled without having to ask. Came here for the first with some friends per their recommendation many times in the past. Waited for a while it was busy. The place isn't big but it's cozy. We were sat and sometime after approached by our server. Our drinks took longer than expected to come and shortly after the food came. I wasn't blown away, even though I expected to be. The food was just OK. The skillet pancake was undercooked. It felt like something just wasn't right . It's my understanding that the restaurant may have had an off day but overall the experience wasn't good . We did mention it to the staff and they did give us a discount but that didn't change the quality of the food/experience . May or may not be back , haven't decided . read more

First time getting brunch around the neighborhood. Had to write my name and number down and wait for at least 30 min outside. There are two benches outside for the people waiting. There is limited seating so I can see why the wait was so long. When I tried to follow up on an estimated time the server was really rude and kept saying you just gotta wait and barely even wanted to speak to me. I understand he's busy but I was only asking out of curiosity how much longer. Even when we sat down it took them a long time to give us water and the menu and was not attentive. Besides the bad customer service, I really did enjoy the food. I got the Inside Out Truffle Bun Plate and my friend got the Grilled Chorizo Skillet. Also got the S'mores French toast to share. No wait when I went on a Friday afternoon. There were 4 other tables full of people and they seemed to be locals. We sat in the middle and I think the staff assigned to us was crouched down working, so we weren't in their line of sight most of the time. With that being said, we weren't really given the good service that others in the reviews mentioned. It was hard to flag someone down to ask for stuff (e.g., add an appetizer/another glass of water). The skillet pancake looked really interesting so I got that. The frosting or sauce on top + the crumbles gave the pancake it's flavor. Otherwise it was really cakey and there was a burnt taste at times if I didn't get any of the frosting or crumbles to cover up that taste. Found this restaurant when looking for a good brunch spot and it didn't disappoint. The parking in the area is really difficult especially on weekend mornings so fellow drivers beware. You will be circling for a while. Weekend brunch always has a wait, but typically not very long, maximum 40 minutes. The food is really delicious and they have an open kitchen concept so you can see your food being made. The interior is small but not claustrophobic small. They have great iced lattes and I always get one whenever I dine in. Their food is prepared well and portioned nicely. I really enjoy coming here with my friends, and my husband and I love coming here for a brunch date every once in a while. We can't wait to bring our young son here when he's old enough. The staff are friendly and kind, they keep the pace of diners moving along and are attentive. You can tell they enjoy their job which is rare in customer facing jobs, speaking from experience. Kudos to this restaurant, it's a great place to eat and seems just as lovely to work there. Highly recommend coming here for brunch, breakfast, and lunch!!
