This place is very cute and has a cozy feel. It is pretty small so I wound recommend big groups. I ordered the shroom sandwich with a side of fries and I must say that Parlay did not miss. I was honestly blown away by how good the sandwich was. The oyster was huge and the right amount of crispy. It was seasoned so well and the thick cut of tomato complimented it nicely. I've been coming here for years and unfortunately I will not be coming back after yesterday's experience. I'm aware the owners changed & now staff have change too. However, service was terrible. As soon as my friend and I walked in to the empty cafe we were instantly pointed to be seated right next to the only other two customers. Waitress didn't give us a few minutes to look at the menu but asked what we wanted to eat as soon as we were seated. However after we asked for a few minutes, 15 mins later the second time around we were greeted with an odd attitude, after we placed our order we had to ask for our drinks that we were not asked or had a chance to order as she cut us off. After we ordered, me and my friend proceed to move one seat down being that we had an empty table next to us and we felt like we were uncomfortable sitting shoulder to shoulder with the other only two people in the cafe at the time. As I'm scooting one seat down we were told that if the cafe got busy, we would have to move while dining to make space for new customers. No explanation and not in a nice approach. Parlay has been in my bookmarks for a long time and I finally got to come today! It's a cute cafe and it has a calming and nice ambiance to it where i can just relax I came with my husband and we enjoyed it alot! The roti for the malaysian curry was super crispy but not burnt and the curry itself was delicious with pieces of potatoes and chicken inside. The burger was only okay for me since it didn't have special ingredients and the patty was a bit too well done for my taste, but that's just me - it could be perfect for someone else and it's still a good burger but i wouldn't say it was special. The staff was very friendly and I believe it's a mother daughter owned cafe and that's what i love to see rather than more chains around us. I would recommend for a date tbh! read more

This was my first time trying this brunch spot . I pass by it often so figured it was time to give it a try . The pace is cash only but does have an atm inside . You order at the "desk" then food is brought to your table . The place isn't huge inside but it's cozy . Cons: When I went to place my order . I inquired about the ingredients of the omelette and let them know of my cheese intolerance . I was told there was no cheese In this dish . When my food arrived sliced my omelette and saw the entire inside filled with melted cheese . I called the waiter over and told her . Very rudely she stated "I told you we don't put cheese in the omelette". I have to open it up for her to see the cheese, then she grabbed the plate . No apology for her mistake and eventually my food came out without cheese . The entire interaction was very off putting hence the 3 star review Pros : I did enjoy the food and the atmosphere . I came here years ago and enjoyed their brunch and decided to come here again with a friend since we were in the area. I wanted to try their signature Malaysian curry chicken. They also had a toasted sesame latte that seemed really interesting. You order at the front first before being seated. The environment is pretty nice. It's decorated really nicely and overall a nice place to catch up with a friend. The food however was a bit disappointing. The signature curry was really heavy for my taste with few pieces of chicken and two pieces of potato. The roti that it came with was dry, flakey, and very thick. It wasn't crispy at all but felt more doughy. The French toast my friend got was standard. Nothing special about it. The toasted sesame latte had zero sesame flavor to it. It just tasted like a regular latte. Overall, the food was disappointing and I don't think I would come back again but the environment was pleasant. I was a bit disappointed that the curry chicken was basically the only Asian dish on the menu, but it was definitely the best dish we ordered. The curry chicken was very tender and flavorful, and the roti was crispy and buttery. The french toast and omelette were lacking in flavor (even not enough salt) and we ended up dipping everything in the curry to salvage it. Great place for brunch in the outskirts of busy 8th Avenue. This place has a nice fusion of Asian inspired dishes along with your traditional American plates. The star of the show is definitely the Malaysian curry. The Roti Canai is a great dipper for the thick sauce. I also used my home fries to soak up every bite of the sauce. I walked in and lady behind the counter was on her phone. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there. When I greeted her and asked for a latte, she gave this sigh/annoyed expression. I guess I was disturbing her screen time. She then asked if I wanted cream and sugar. Right at that moment, I knew I picked the wrong place. I understand there are people who add cream and sugar in their latte. But any respectable coffee shop will never ask this. When I mentioned to my friend, who lives nearby, that I went to Parlay, she said big mistake. They had an ownership change and is no longer the same. I should had went to Internet and Coffee. But I implore you, try even just one of these golden hand-cut and deep-fried potato strips tossed in secret spices and tell me it's not an S on your fry tier list too. And though it may bear "spicy" in its name, it packs about as much heat as a sweet barbecue potato chip, making it suitable to all tolerances. Just note that it's no dollar menu though. In fact, most of Parlay's offerings aren't. I mean, $5 for a grilled cheese?? In this economy???? I can understand $6 for magic fries but everything else can do better. I feel like they can definitely fit more tables and seating. We ordered the Mom's Malaysian curry, fried chicken sandwich, and bacon egg and cheese. The Malaysian curry was the best thing we ordered. I recommend getting this. They give you a lot of curries and its perfect for a chilly weekend. The fried chicken sandwich came with a wasbi mayo which was nice. The downside to the chicken sandwich was that it was cut into popcorn chicken pieces so it was difficult to eat it without making a mess. The bacon egg and cheese was good, nothing special. I didn't try any of their coffee this time around, but maybe on my next visit. The chicken curry roti is great, really hits the spot, and the roti is exactly how you want it- a little greasy, a little flaky, and a little chewy. There were nice pieces of chicken in my serving and service was good. The fries were ordinary hand-cut fries, but fried nicely: not oily, lightly crispy. The drip coffee was brewed from dark roast beans. Like, dark-dark. Extraction was just right but light roast lovers beware. There are no choices of beans either. Parlay is an amazing brunch spot with very affordable food options. The first time I came here with a group of 3 in total and I had their eggs royale (eggs with smoked salmon, with a side of home fries) for dinner. Being able to have breakfast food for dinner? A powermove if you ask me. It was all so good and I knew I had to come back. When I came back the second time around, I went with another friend and had their Mum's Malaysian Curry Chicken. While it felt weird not having rice with it, it came with roti bread and cucumbers. It was a tad spicy and overall enjoyable. After the meal, my friend and I ordered hot drinks and the staff cleaned the table for us. Our interactions with the staff were very pleasant and I'll definitely return to try other items on their menu in the future. read more

We have been here many times pre-pandemic so I'm glad Parlay survived the pandemic and was happy to go there but disappointed in our server and unsure what prompted the unfriendly service that was noticeable. Was it annoying that we couldn't hear each other behind our masks when we placed our order and asked for clarifications? Was he upset when we asked for the food to go and expected to get containers to pack ourselves but he expected us to bring our food to him? It became more apparent when other customers came in for pick up and the server actually smiled. I have worked in service for over a decade and would never shame a customer into tipping or be rude about not getting tipped unless the customer is literally rude but even then, I know how to restrain myself. On my way out was told crudely gratuity is not included in the bill. I was able to clarify that on our $34.25 bill, my partner did in fact tip leaving $5.75 swapping out her five bill for five singles. By my standard that's a little low to be fair, and I know some people adjust based on service (which I think she did) though I always do flat 20%. When I told him she did tip and he rolled his eyes. I went back and left another five dollars now tipping over 20%. I hope the server feels satisfied with himself cause he actually didn't deserve it. I know what it's like dealing with a-holes and crappy tippers, and no- the customer is not "always right" even though there's some stupid rule about that. I tried to be friendly and am really put off by the whole exchange. Sadly we won't be returning even tho we have always had an affection for Parlay. Absolutely adore this corner brunch joint at any time of day. My boyfriend conveniently lives around the block from Parlay, hence my multiple check-ins. The service is great, music is always a hit--think 90's R&B greatest hits--and the vibe on point. Top ranked Parlay items are as follows, in no particular order: - fried chicken sandwich: stacked high with ripping hot chicken strips, seasoned to perfection with a nice drizzle of wasabi aioli - cheeseburger: add a runny egg or some bacon to offset the sweetness of the onions and the hit of black pepper on the juicy patty - sriracha jam grilled cheese: perfectly grilled Pullman loaf, oozy cheese which doesn't set into a hard lump (I was judiciously journaling at the bar while indulging in this one) - hand cut fries - bacon, egg and cheese: rivals a bodega BEC IMO Seems to be the neighborhood spot. As such, she would not seat me until my friend arrived. Ha! It would have been funny had I been able to get my latte from her, which again she would not make, until my friend arrived and we ordered food (another mandate). This was, as I was schooled by the cashier, their "business model" . Well, I waited for my friend and watched so many people like me try to figure out how the eff to get a coffee and their orders which took a long time. My friend arrived 5 minutes later.
