The service is great, music is always a hit--think 90's R&B greatest hits--and the vibe on point. Parlay sucks. This place not only has a confusing brand identity but their business practice has been set by someone who has ZERO experience in the food and hospitality business. It presents itself as a coffee shop cum hipster joint (they put a few vinyl records on display to make their point) but it gets even more bizarre (and off putting) when the server informed me that the place is in fact, a "restaurant ". As such, she would not seat me until my friend arrived. Ha! It would have been funny had I been able to get my latte from her, which again she would not make, until my friend arrived and we ordered food (another mandate). This was, as I was schooled by the cashier, their "business model" . Well, I waited for my friend and watched so many people like me try to figure out how the eff to get a coffee and their orders which took a long time. My friend arrived 5 minutes later. Obnoxious shitty lil' place. We left. The restaurant is tiny and cozy, so it is better to come at an off-time like this to have the best experience. During our brunch, there was one other party in the restaurant, so there was no pressure to leave and service was faster. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich ($8.25) and my friend ordered the fried chicken sandwich ($8.75). Food was presented well and tasted amazing! For my sandwich, the pork was well-shredded, juicy, and the sauce they used to flavor it was so delicious. The slaw was portioned well and complemented rather than overwhelmed the pork. My friend also enjoyed her sandwich! I tried a piece and was taken by surprise by the softness and flavor of the chicken! However, I'm not the biggest fan of wasabi, so I would pass on the wasabi aioli. My friend also enjoyed the latte ($3.50) that she ordered. The fries that came with my friend's sandwich were also tasty, and made me wish mine came with them too. Even without the fries, both sandwiches were filling and portioned well for the price. This place is a gem. I had time to kill before my last appointment for work in the afternoon and found parlay! The vibe of this place , the menu and the prices are perfect. I was so upset that I had a meeting or else I would have consumed $3 Miller high life's all afternoon. I know they aren't a top shelf ipa but finding 3$ non happy hour pricing ... all day every day... with good food and employees that are laid back and attentive is amazing. Charming cafe located just outside the busier Chinese dominated commercial 8th Avenue strip. It is currently operating with a smaller menu and reduced hours. Both before the pandemic changes and now, Parlay turns out consistently high quality food, whether taken out or enjoyed at one of their outdoor sidewalk tables. Their current menu still has the juicy burger on a fluffy bun, and a well-made bacon, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich. But consider the most unexpected dish of all, Malaysian curry chicken, with layered flavors in a complex curry, tender dark meat chicken, and perfect crisp and chewy roti. Although competition is sparse, just can't think of any Malaysian restaurant in NYC that tops it. And appropriate for a cafe, their coffee is quite delicious. Came early on a Sunday for brunch with a friend and got a table right away. It started to get busy around noon and there were a bunch of people waiting for a table. This brunch/cafe is in middle of nowhere and definitely out of place for Sunset Park, but definitely a great addition to the neighborhood. I had the pulled pork sandwich, spicy hand cut fries and the hibiscus lemonade. The pulled pork was delicious. It was flavorful, well-seasoned and perfectly paired with the toasted brioche bun. Only complaint is that the slaw was very liquidy and the pickle was extemely sour. I wish they put the slaw to the side so it didn't soak up the bun. The fries weren't bad and the hibiscus lemonade was really good. My friend had the fried chicken sandwich with fries and she enjoyed it. The sandwich was huge and they gave a lot of chicken. Cash only. Came here for brunch because my sister insisted coming her. I ordered the smoked salmon benedict and it was terrible. The eggs were not runny and when I pointed that out to them, they were surprised I wanted it runny. They are supposed to be runny! It was similar to a boiled egg - look at pictures. They made a new batch which was perfectly runny but still not a good benedict. Maybe it was the salmon? I also tried the french toast and they used regular white bread which doesn't make sense. You can't just use any type of bread to make a french toast. I loved the curry with roti. This is a true seller. The curry was perfectly creamy and flavored. If you come here, you must order this dish. If you order a drink aka coffee, they will not serve you milk. It is self serve at the counter. I ordered the matcha latte and it was not pleasant. The coffee was good though. I think this restaurant is a self serve style besides them bringing out your order because they never checked up on us or asked if we wanted refills. Long overdue review, this is our go to neighborhood spot for snacks, brunch, coffee & drinks, hangs etc. Owner & fam are super nice & work their butts off. It definitely shines through in the food. Service and food are so so good. Came in early morning around 8 and the workers were still nice and attentive despite the early hours. We ordered a fruit salad, cheese and spinach omelet, and the curry chicken with roti. ALL was amazing the flavors were strong and apparent especially with the curry. A really good brunch spot in Chinatown, Brooklyn. The service was fast and friendly, not to mention the food was amazing as well. There aren't many seating options available so that would be a concern if you have a large party with you. 5/5 Brunch places are basically non-existent in the Brooklyn Chinatown area and you will usually have to travel out of the neighborhood to find one. 3.5 stars - Parlay is a cute, little spot tucked in a corner in the Sunset Park neighborhood. Located in the busy 8th ave, this quaint cafe gives a very cozy feel. I decided to come by on a Sunday afternoon and luckily we did not have to wait. This place has very limited seating (I would guess 15 people MAX) and does not accept credit cards (cash only!), so that made it a bit inconvenient. I ordered the spinach and cheese omelette. All of the egg dishes come with a side of homestyle cajun fries, but I was in more of a long fries mood and luckily, the waitress said that i can switch for no additional charge! :) If you are interested in sweet potato fries instead, you can change it for an additional $0.75. Overall, the spinach and cheese omelette was good, but I would've really liked for the cheese to have been mozzarella. They used a less stringy cheese (I think American?), which can explain the $7.25 price. My friends ordered eggs Benedicts and burgers and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. It wasn't SPECTACULAR, but it was good. Overall, I had a decent brunch here. The food was good, although it did not blow my mind. Just had their Malaysian chicken curry, roti, burger, and fries and wow. I love everything! The roti was equally chewy and crispy. The curry was not too oily. The caramelized onions on the burger and the burger bun were surprisingly tasty. The fries were not soggy and perfect for dipping into the curry. The portions were great for the price. I went here on a Friday, had a nice cup of coffee and a tasty curry. On Saturday, I came back, walking an extra 6 blocks to get another coffee, thinking I'd support a local store. Instead they kicked me out, saying tables are reserved for people eating food. This is 3pm on a Saturday with just 3 other people in the whole shop. I had read about them kicking other people out for laptop use, but I didn't have a laptop, and was a paying customer just trying to unwind with some coffee. Unnecessary and just dumb to be so rude to your customers. I was so happy about this find, and I had recommended it to multiple friends, but now I must warn them not to go. Let me just start by saying I want to eat Mum's Malaysian Curry everyday for the rest of my life!!! I've had many curries in my 28 years of life and this is #1 on the list. The curry is so creamy and thick PACKED with flavor (a bit of heat - would love more) The roti is so buttery and soft ( I always regret not getting extra) And the cherry on top is the crisp refreshing cucumber served on the side ( I save that for last). Great place to just relax and enjoy your food. The waitress/front of the house was nice and attentive to the best of her abilities. Came here a few Sundays ago around 2pm and waited about 20mins to be seated (party of 3). Parlay is a quaint little spot in the middle of Sunset Park. The place is set-up like a cafe style - only a few tables and stools around the bar. I read a lot of reviews about the curry chicken and really wanted to try it, but the waitress said they were all out of it....which was disappointing since it was a Sunday at 2pm, still fairly early. Instead, I ordered the Eggs Royale (basically salmon Benedict). It was good, the eggs were cooked perfectly. I was a bit bummed to discover that they do not serve mimosas or bellinis, but they do have wine. We popped a bottle of rosé which was delicious and refreshing. The best part about this place was the price. Every entree on the menu was under $15, and it didn't break the bank to get a bottle of wine. I will definitely be back! read more

Came here for the second time yesterday with group of 3. All the seats were filled and we were awkwardly standing by the door since none of the staff wanted to acknowledge us. I even made eye contact multiple times and they didn't even say anything like "one moment please" or a simple smile. Finally a staff came up to us after 5 mins of standing around. Parlay has slowly (but surely) become a regular favorite for me and my boyfriend as it's close to my boyfriend's house. It's a hidden and trendy cafe that's tucked away in the deep end of 8th ave. It's got a nice, simple menu and it's a cute place to converse with a friend or bring your laptop and do some work (during the permitted hours of course). The spicy hand cut fries and hibiscus lemonade are my bf's fave things to order here, and I'd say my go-to order is the sriracha jam grilled cheese - I love the sweetness added from the jam! I also enjoy the sweet potato fries as they come with spicy mayo. I've read the Malaysian curry chicken is a popular dish, and the times I've gone order it, they were sold out, which can attest to its popularity! The one time I have had it though, it was pretty yummy. My boyfriend and I really didn't expect much going off first impressions of the location and outside exterior. But we were so wrong. I ordered the french toast with a iced green tea latte (unsweetened -- which was perfect) and my boyfriend got the Eggs Benedict. His egg was perfectly runny! We both enjoyed our breakfast and didn't have much of a wait for food. The party next to us ordered a fried chicken sandwich and it also looked soooo good. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with two friends. Ordered two entrees, two appetizers and four drinks. An hour in to dining, the waitress proceeds to come by and take away our food telling us they have an hour limit on dining. We were not informed of this prior and neither were there any signs up. Quotes from our extraordinarily rude and nonchalant waitress: "Yeah we allow you to eat but not really to eat and talk" "It's different if you are ordering a few beers and talking" So apparently you are not allowed talk if you only order food and non alcoholic drinks. But not worth the trouble to meet up with friends since you will be kicked out in an hour, and you are not supposed "to eat and talk". I like this spot a lot for brunch food. Note this is not an Internet cafe. Inside decor is cute and cozy - black ceiling with twinkling light bulbs or string lights, plants adorning the counter, nice music choices, clean and well kept. Food is served relatively quickly and it is delicious. Friendly staff - they've leveled up recently in terms of having different staff around (or at least out front). I can tell some of the staff may be newer or inexperienced, but they are doing a good job!!! Our favorite items are their grilled cheese w bacon and the spicy fries! Their menu at the moment is limited and their hours have changed a bit as well (8am-6pm) if I remember correctly. There are tables at the front when you walk in as their new set up for customers to order.
