Blueberry French toast
Dionne H.

This tiny restaurant has family home dining room / living room feel. There is even space to sit at the bar. This restaurant doesn't suit you unless your whole party is there. I was the first one to arrive for Sunday brunch. It opened at 10am. My brunch date was running late. The staff was kind enough to let me sit at the bar until she arrived. The menu has so many wonderful options. It was a little hard to decide, but I decided to get the blueberry French toast and a cocktail. I really enjoyed their hospitality and one more thing they don't do substitutions but there's so many options. It's just gonna be fine with whatever you pick their food is delicious.

So I came here after doing some research for brunch spots to dine at for my birthday and I decided to go with this one. Love that the chef is an African American female who was very pleasant. Upon coming in I noticed it's a very small space but it's cozy once inside and great music selection of classic reggae hits. They do have a tv which was playing I believe coming to America loved that. There was a 20 minute wait due the kitchen only having one chef & limited servers but we were seated within the 20 mins bracket. Our server was pleasant for the most part, started out a bit shaky but ended rather well. Loved the brick walls inside & artwork Food: 4/5 I ordered the French toast with a side I scramble eggs and turkey bacon. The French toast was delicious, turkey bacon was great and so were the eggs. My family had fried chicken with some kinda sauce which they liked said it could have been a bit better the collard greens were good and we also ordered jerk shrimp and grits. (Which were cornmeal grits) not bad but very different than the traditional grits I was use to. There is a wide variety of food options which I found to be great. The pricing was a bit up there for sides, weren't a lot of combos with all side they had so it added up quickly. Service: 3/5 service wasn't bad but could be better our waitress was attentive but started out a bit shakey only reason I deducted 2 stars. She was helpful and proved me and my party with shots on the house due to it being my birthday which we were highly appreciative of. Ambiance: 3/5 Artwork and brick walls were nice.

My best friend and I had brunch here on Sunday, and everything was amazing! The food was delicious and full of flavor, the service was great, and the music added to the vibe. I ordered the catfish strips with collard greens and mac & cheese on the side. The collard greens were a little spicy but extremely tasty, and the catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection. My best friend had eggs over hard with turkey bacon, potatoes, and toast. I also tried a tropical mimosa, which was so good! I really love that the menu is so large--there are so many options, and I can't wait to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!

Flamingobaby kitchen and I had beef after I waited so long for a table for brunch that I eventually left but we are all good now. Lol the food is worth the wait and I thought it might be which is why I spin the block for a calm birthday brunch with a friend midweek. Let's start with the chicken and waffles. The waffles crispy exterior surrounded a soft chewy interior. Savory and not too sweet, perfect temp, and sprinkled with just enough powdered sugar. The Chicken: hot in temp, not too breaded, a preference for some, and tender inside. Crispy coat. Not overly seasoned but definitely not dry or lacking in salt. Mac and cheese: star of the show. Cooked to order. Came out steamy with crispy cheese blanketing even more cheesy noodles. Kept it simple with no overpowering flavors but very respectable Mac and cheese. My friends tone switched from Decent to very good several bites into the mac and cheese they supposedly weren't interested in lol. A lil high in sodium but I don't know that one can find solid Mac and cheese without that sodium content. Corn bread: Patrons all nodded their heads in unison about how good the cornbread was. Appreciated that it didn't taste like cake or just dull bread. Warm, crunchy/crumby. Falls apart a little but the taste was very much intact. If you're not up for a potentially long wait, come early in the weekdays. Service was great, and attended to right away.

03/09/2025: Dined No reservations basically first come first served. It is small cozy inside i would say most accommodation about 20. There a a few seating outside. Depending upon arrival there is a wait but trust me it's worth it. The food, the vibes, the service top notch. Appetizers: Loved them all Ackee Plantain Codfish Fritters Catfish Strips Mains: Boneless chicken roti: well seasoned and flavorful. Being boneless I enjoyed even more. Ackee & Saltfish: equally yummy my dining partner loved it and enjoyed every morsel. Crispy Shrimp and Grits: I didn't partake but my other diner enjoyed. Drinks: Frozen Rum Punch: OMG soooo good and strong. I had to take it easy with the sips. Other non alcoholic drinks others consumed also tasty. Music played will have you dancing in your seats. I have tried to return several times but the wait was too long and we were hungry. Majority of the time wait was 45mins and up. All in all great place to dine just don't go too hungry in case you need to wait.

This place is so warm and welcoming. Very intimate setting and staff is so kind. I would definitely come here early right as the open because they are always packed and busy. There's probably about 20 seats inside and also an outdoor patio. I came here with my one year old daughter and they were so accommodating the entire time. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles, potato salad, and collard greens. Ordered too much food but it was all so well seasoned and flavorful and washed it down with a Sorrel. All around all the food is so delicious and it's a really great southern / Caribbean spot.

This place was great for brunch!! the place is small and cozy but i did not feel cramped. They do not accept reservations, so we came around12noon and it was crowded. You put your name on the list and they will give you a call when the table is ready. We just walked around and was call back in like 30mins. The hostess and wait staff was excellent our order was taken in a timely manner and the food came shortly after. I ordered the Jerk Shrimp & Grits and shared the French toast. The table was quite and I did the food dance while I was eating. the food was cooked to perfection, succulent and divine!! The food was so good this place is an A+, I thoroughly recommend.

Absolutely enjoyed the food here. I live Uptown, but I'm willing to make the commute just to have it over and over again. The vibe and service felt very homey. When my friend and I arrived, we were greeted by the owner/chef. It was an amazing food experience. I had the fried salmon and grits, a side of eggs, and a biscuit. My friend had french toast and chicken tenders. We shared a side of greens. Just know our plates were empty! They are CASH ONLY

When I first walked in, my first thought was about how small the place was. They do not take reservation and operate under a first come, first serve basis. They also do not sets incomplete parties, which was annoying for me. I was dining with my mother and daughter for my birthday, but my mother was running late. I put my name down but by the time she arrived I was told it would be around 45 minutes. However, the wait was probably less than 15 minutes. We were seated and almost immediately someone took our orders for drinks. Also, they took our food orders not long after that. The food was okay and we were all pleased for the most part. I enjoyed my birthday brunch here and would possibly return here again..

Small but mighty! This small eatery brings the flavors! Came here on a recent visit for brunch. While here I tried the following: Catfish & Grits: nicely battered and seasoned fish with creamy savory grits. Colossal jerk shrimp & grits: awesomely sized and seasoned shrimp with the creamy savory grits. Jerk Chicken BLAT: good to the last bite. Greatly prepared with bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato. French toast: satisfied my sweet tooth. Huge portion! All dishes were delicious and adequately sized for their price points. I washed everything down with the tropical mimosa. Our server Shanice was great! I will definitely be visiting again!

We came for lunch a few months back and personally enjoyed the food a lot. We ordered a chicken a waffle because how can you not and then a jerk chicken meal with potatoes. First, the chicken in both meals were so so tender and both flavorful in their own ways. The fried chicken was very juicy and just hits the spot with the syrup and waffle. Next, I personally love love love jerk chicken so basically had my husband order that so I can enjoy both meals, ha! The jerk chicken was seasoned so nicely, there was a hint of spicy but it was so so good - the potatoes that also came with the meal was seasoned so well, it did not need condiments at all! Food was definitely 10/10 as with the service. The wait staff came over a few times to make sure everything was good! The space inside I think was the only thing that docked a star. It is very tight in there and we also had to wait over 30+ mins for a table on a weekday.

Great brunch! Flamingo Baby is a cozy, welcoming restaurant with great music. The service was friendly and didn't rush us out. We came on a busy Sunday, and everything was delicious. The fried catfish was the crispiest, I ever had! Our table shared the french toast, which was yummy. And you must try their fresh juice Pine-Ginger was the perfect level of spicy & sweet. I definitely will be returning to eat here again!

FlamingoBABY is such a cute little restaurant, I'm sad it took me so long to pop in. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the fried chicken and waffles and the chicken was cooked perfectly and the waffles were good. My friend really enjoyed her catfish and grits. I tried a little piece of the catfish and I can see why it's a popular item. They do offer a bottomless brunch option and the tropical mimosas were good, but I think I'd try the Bellini next time. The only Downside is that it is a very small restaurant with limited seating and they do not take reservations. So be prepared to wait depending on what time you go. There was only 2 of us on a Saturday afternoon and we waited almost 2 hours for the table.

I chose this place because I had visited a few times in the past and expected a positive environment. While there, I ran into an old friend who was accompanying individuals with special needs. They informed us about the R&B karaoke event, and we attempted to participate respectfully and supportively. Unfortunately, after participating, the DJ became rude and dismissive. My friends decided not to continue because each time they attempted to request a song, the DJ was unkind and impatient, seemingly unaware--or unconcerned--that they were individuals with special needs. The situation escalated when I attempted to calmly address the disrespect. Instead of listening, the bartender repeatedly accused me of being drunk simply because I was defending myself after a rude comment. I was not intoxicated; I was advocating for respectful treatment. Even the DJ's own companion appeared visibly shocked by the comment made toward me, as if anticipating a reaction. I remained composed and professional despite being deeply upset. What disappointed me most was the staff's decision to defend the DJ's behavior rather than acknowledge how inappropriate and disrespectful the interaction was. This reflects poorly on how this establishment treats people--especially those who deserve patience, understanding, and dignity. I came expecting an enjoyable brunch experience and left feeling ashamed for having trusted this place. It is clear that the venue prioritizes protecting mediocre DJs with minimal local popularity over treating customers with basic respect. Poor organization, lack of proper event management, and unprofessional staff behavior made this experience unacceptable. I have visited many establishments and have never felt so disrespected. I will not be returning.

TL;DR version- Some high highs and some very low lows. Hot Figs was a fun app. By a mile, the soups…read morewere the favorites, so I would recommend the Pepián or Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo. Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.
