I don't live far, so I was a little skeptical since I had not heard of it, I used to own a restaurant in the neighborhood, and I eat out several times a week in Manhattan and Brooklyn at the same places that I love, and I also love cooking amazing food for family and friends. Let's say, I was pleasantly surprised, and actually blown away! My family is Jamaican, so fusion isn't always my thing, but this restaurant did the most amazing job with all of the food! The proteins honored the culture, and the fusion elements actually mirrored my favorite Chinese Jamaican spot in Ocho Rios, so all of it honored its roots! ON TOP OF THAT, the vegetables were fresh and flavorful--not overcooked! Excellent. And the jasmine rice was the best rice that I have had anywhere in NYC. PERIOD. A chef that cares about the RICE is definitely putting his foot in the rest of the meal! I had to call back to get the name of Chef Bunny - I needed to know who COOKED that food! And Amanda was extremely helpful with taking our order and fixing a little boo boo in our pickup order. I went on Resurrection Sunday with a party of 9, and we were seated pretty quickly, which I appreciated because large groups can be tricky. I attended La'Mode BK on August 22, 2026, for a private surprise birthday party. I really wanted to enjoy and support this establishment, but unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing. Because it was a surprise party, we completely understood that the group needed to wait for the birthday girl to arrive before ordering together. However, she was running late and my husband and I had a prior engagement that required us to leave early. We explained our situation and were told we could order separately from the regular menu. We had absolutely no issue with that. We specifically explained that we were hungry, wanted to eat at the restaurant, and needed to leave by a certain time. We placed our order and paid $101. Then came the problem: absolutely no communication. We waited and waited. No one came over with an update, told us there was a delay, checked on our order, or told us our food was ready. As the time approached when we absolutely had to leave, we finally asked about our food. That's when we learned that it had already been prepared. Even more confusing, it had been put into takeout containers, despite our specifically explaining that we wanted to eat there before leaving. No one had ever told us the food was ready. By that point, we no longer had time to eat. We had paid $101 for food we never got to enjoy. Since we were heading directly to another engagement and couldn't take the food with us, we gave the entire order to the host of the birthday party to take home. The situation could have been resolved so easily, but what made it significantly worse was the response from the house manager. Rather than acknowledging the communication breakdown or attempting to make the situation right, she was rude, dismissive, and extremely unprofessional. The restaurant was not packed or overwhelmingly busy, making the complete lack of communication even harder to understand. I'm also an event planner ,so I regularly consider restaurants and venues that I can confidently recommend to clients. How management responds when something goes wrong is just as important to me as the food or atmosphere. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable recommending La'Mode BK for a client's private event. I especially wanted to support La'Mode BK as a Black-owned business, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. I understand that mistakes happen. What matters is how a business handles them. Our complaint was never about having to order separately. We completely understood that. Our complaint is that we paid $101 for food we intended to eat there, received no communication that it was ready, discovered it had been packaged to go, had to leave without eating it, and then encountered a rude and dismissive response from the house manager. I think this is my third time here! The food is slamming, hot temp wise and very flavorful. I had the carnival salmon with rice and peas and sweet plantains. No complaints! My boyfriend devoured his snapper! The drinks are strong but not a bad strong, a well balanced and nicely mixed strong. A group of us got together to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday. This place is very cozy and has very good food. Although it took forever to receive my entree, my friends received there food in a timely manner and their dishes were soo good. Two stories, red/black decor with a huge mural, but appeared a bit dirk. Huge tv with baseball playing and no music until 6:30pm which ended up being Caribbean slow jams at the perfect volume to talk. Ordered the $10 happy hour ginger margarita, $10 Thai chilli wings (not too impressed) , $14 escovitch tacos (spicy fried whiting ), $24 jerk chicken (spicy & authentically flavorful and crispy) and $30 shrimp (sweet curry) w/ jasmine rice & sweet plantains. The coconut flavor in the rice was as if they actually grated the coconut in there. The portion size was enough to share and I ended up brining it home. I was able to stop by while I was in New York visiting family. I was the first of our party to get there and was able to meet one of the owners. He was very kind and told me a little bit about his history in the restaurant business, along with his wife. We were seated in the upper level where it has more of an Asian vibe. The owner stated that the restaurant is supposed to be a Caribbean-Asian fusion. The decor was beautifully done. You feel like you're in the Caribbean downstairs, which is contrasted with the Asian theme up top. I had the oxtail dinner with rice and beans. My sister had the pasta and she added jerk chicken to it and my cousin had the escovich fish. The food was very flavorful, but almost everything was really spicy. We came here after spending time at the Brooklyn Museum. When you enter the restaurant, the Caribbean and Asian fusion theme is prevalent. The afrobeats playing throughout blends with the colors, murals, and Asian decor upstairs. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, checking in with us and refilling our water. The ginger martini was refreshing and not overpowering, and my love ordered the Lychee martini which she enjoyed. The cod fish cakes were phenomenal, and the sweet chili sauce paired with it perfectly. We ordered the fish to share, and we both had plenty between us. I'm a huge fan of fried snapper, and this did not disappoint. The flavors jumped off the table, and it had a great crisp to it. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at La'Mode BK and this is now the second time this has happened. Both visits, they ran out of red snapper. This past Friday was especially unacceptable. My friend and I placed our orders without issue. I stepped away briefly, and when I returned, I was told I needed to reorder because they had "run out" of snapper. When I questioned why the electronic menu did not indicate the item was sold out, the waitress explained that while she was entering my order, someone called in requesting red snapper and they gave it to the caller instead. Let me be clear: a phone-in order should never take priority over a customer who is physically present and has already placed their order. That is a serious lapse in customer service and basic business etiquette. If inventory is limited, it should be updated immediately and honored on a first-come, first-served basis especially for dine-in guests. This situation reflects poor inventory management and even worse customer service judgment. After two visits with the same issue, it's hard not to feel like in-house customers are an afterthought. Management seriously needs to reevaluate how orders are prioritized and how inventory is handled. This experience was frustrating, disrespectful, and completely avoidable. read more

It was not super oily and the portion size was huge. I thought it could be an entree by itself. - Jerk chicken: if you like spice, that jerk sauce has it. Also, the jerk chicken tastes like someone made it on an outside grill.
