Guava martini

I think this is my third time here! The food is slamming, hot temp wise and very flavorful. I had the carnival salmon with rice and peas and sweet plantains. No complaints! My boyfriend devoured his snapper! The drinks are strong but not a bad strong, a well balanced and nicely mixed strong. The lychee martini was delicious and my boyfriend's coconut rum punch was creamy and packed a punch for sure. Service is attentive and friendly from the moment we walked in. Always a plus. They had a DJ so it was a little on the loud side but it was Friday night! It was also freezing where we sat, thankfully I had my jacket.

I came here apart of the Kwanzaa crawl local and black owned bar experience and it did not disappoint. The dj was amazing. He definitely kept the crowd dancing. They even had a Photo Booth. We ordered food and they definitely realized we needed food fast. And them chicken wings were amazing. This is another local black owned bar that I didn't know about. And I will definitely be back here to support this local business.

No thank you ‍. Really disappointed in the food, and drinks. They didn't have a Diet Coke and out loads of ice in the virgin drink. The fried rice wasn't eatable. It was rice and peas without the peas w/ a little of frozen peas. The only thing that was good was the fish cakes. Mac and cheese 5/10 and oxtail dinner 5/10. Truly disgusting

The appetizers that I had were really good! The whiting fish tacos were fresh and seasoned and the fresh veggies it is served with were good. The shrimp were delicious! The codfish cakes were decent, I would get them next time with the sweet sauce on the side. The decor is comfy. They have high, low and bar seating, as well as outdoor! Felt welcomed upon walking in.

I came around the holidays. They had just opened. I believe I was the first guest of the day. I was the only guest dining while I was there. However that didn't stop me from being served to the highest standard. It's absolutely beautiful inside. With so much art to enjoy. Murals all around. My food was delicious. I will say, the whole fish was a bit pricey. I believe about $50, as it may have been "market priced", however I don't regret my choice! When I went, it was happy hour, so I was able to indulge in a couple of the bartenders recommended selections! Those did not disappoint either!

The food was delicious I'm sorry there are no pictures. It was that good. I went for happy hour and ordered jerk meatballs, escovitch tacos, and chicken. The flavors were off the chain! The service was top tier. Our server/bartender was Marquise. He took us from mango margaritas to sorrel martinis. They were so good we had to have 2! We talked about coming back for brunch but we weren't sure of the rum punch he gave us both a little sample! That's a way to keep us coming back. The restaurant exudes black excellence with the paintings and decor.

Had to give this place a second chance because I knew Kwanzaa Crawl wasn't a fair take on the place & it was nice. Entered today around 5:45pm and we were the only ones inside. Two stories, red/black decor with a huge mural, but appeared a bit dirk. Huge tv with baseball playing and no music until 6:30pm which ended up being Caribbean slow jams at the perfect volume to talk. Ordered the $10 happy hour ginger margarita, $10 Thai chilli wings (not too impressed) , $14 escovitch tacos (spicy fried whiting ), $24 jerk chicken (spicy & authentically flavorful and crispy) and $30 shrimp (sweet curry) w/ jasmine rice & sweet plantains. Everything that we had (except the wings) were a ten! The waitress was nice, but I do wish they were a little swifter. May be great for others as there was no rush.

My friend took me here to celebrate my birthday and I had an amazing time. First of all, let me apologize for my pics because I was hungry and started eating then remembered I didn't take pictures. It's all good tho because the food and drinks were delicious. I had the classic jerk chicken with rice and peas and plantains. This was the best rice and peas I've had since my mom's. The coconut flavor in the rice was as if they actually grated the coconut in there. The portion size was enough to share and I ended up brining it home. My friend had the pasta with chicken and that was so delicious, just filled with flavor. And the drinks...we both had a rum punch. The bartender didn't skimp on the rum at all. Great choice! There was a live band and I was lucky enough to have them sing happy birthday. Overall, great establishment, friendly service and atmosphere and amazing food/drinks. They also have outdoor seating. Eat, drink and enjoy!

My daughter is picky they made her chicken tenders and fries :)

This is such a great place. My friend and I were able to get a weekend dinner reservation a day in advance. We were greeted by a woman I believe the be the owner. She was very warm and welcoming. Once we were seated we were introduced to our server. The menus are on iPads. You can select your items there and have your server review and add items from iPad. Appetizers: escovitch fish bites was a large portion/ enough to share and very delicious Also ordered the escovitch shrimp with bang bang sauce. So good! Entree: jerk chicken was good but it doesn't taste like it was marinated for a long time. The sauce was good but the chicken itself was ok. You are allowed two sides. Orders rice and peas with plantain We also ordered the macaroni which is delicious! Definitely order.the cheesy mashed potatoes needs work. It needed, butter and salt. The only flavor was the cheese thrown on top. Drinks were good. Not stingy with alcohol. They did take a long time to come. They came after our food was served. Bar may need additional staff for weekends. This place has two levels. It appears to accommodate large groups/ private events on the 2nd floor

I was able to stop by while I was in New York visiting family. I was the first of our party to get there and was able to meet one of the owners. He was very kind and told me a little bit about his history in the restaurant business, along with his wife. We were seated in the upper level where it has more of an Asian vibe. The owner stated that the restaurant is supposed to be a Caribbean-Asian fusion. The decor was beautifully done. You feel like you're in the Caribbean downstairs, which is contrasted with the Asian theme up top. I had the oxtail dinner with rice and beans. My sister had the pasta and she added jerk chicken to it and my cousin had the escovich fish. The food was very flavorful, but almost everything was really spicy. That is not a bad thing for me, but I would say if you are not big on spice, then please be aware before you order.

We came here after spending time at the Brooklyn Museum. When you enter the restaurant, the Caribbean and Asian fusion theme is prevalent. The afrobeats playing throughout blends with the colors, murals, and Asian decor upstairs. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, checking in with us and refilling our water. The ginger martini was refreshing and not overpowering, and my love ordered the Lychee martini which she enjoyed. The cod fish cakes were phenomenal, and the sweet chili sauce paired with it perfectly. We ordered the fish to share, and we both had plenty between us. I'm a huge fan of fried snapper, and this did not disappoint. The flavors jumped off the table, and it had a great crisp to it. The vegetables and plantains were cooked perfectly, and the jasmine rice and rice and peas were well seasoned. I enjoyed the festivals, as they were more flaky than I'm used to. I look forward to future visits here, as I'm sure it's a vibe in more crowded times.

The stars finally aligned this winter and I had the opportunity to try it out. The vibes are perfect. Fog and bubbles, sea noises and all of the art go together seemlessly. Drinks were great. We had three and left suitably sloshed for the night with no aftereffects. We didn't have too many bites but the food was very good for a bar. I'm excited to go back and I hope we have just as much luck getting in next time.

Unfortunately this place fell very flat. Leading with what we liked: Their mocktail offerings were good, promising a 0.0% ABV which is hard to come across when mocktails are offered. They serve oysters, which adds to that aphrodisiac experience of the oh so 'wow this is a former brothel!'. The bartenders and servers were fast and very sociable with the more sociable customers. The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it. We honestly had no clue where it would be and only asked because of how this place was advertised. While it was comfy once we made our way back there, it was reminiscent of a lounge style bar space that almost any bar could replicate with the right room and budget. We didn't feel as though this hit the spot and were let down by this experience. I'm not sure if I can judge the menu of drinks/ foods as expensive, but we left hungry bc we couldn't justify some of the prices. In addition, I've seen a lot of complaints about the volume of the music: it's definitely loud at the front but a lot lower in that back lounge space. It's as loud as any bar's music level would be, but truth be told we were expecting music that matched the vibe of what was advertised and yes, at a lower volume.

I've made it a point to visit every vinyl listening bar that I learn of in town, after enjoying the shared experience of someone curating a select vinyl list in intimate spaces in Tokyo. Few have been able to replicate the experience, but Honeycomb Hi Fi Lounge comes close. That the space is narrow with just a few seats along the bar and a few tables mimics the Japanese experience best, where you can almost have it so the whole room is having one conversation together. The music is the focus. The cocktail menu is rather simple, and my Stormbringer drink, with dark rum and ginger beer was not anything to write home about, but $15 is pretty low for cocktails these days so I'll take it. If they introduced new cocktails to the menu with more interesting ingredients I'd be more inclined to return, but the vibes overall are pretty good and the staff really nice.

My friend and I each order a cocktail, and are catching up. I'm from Brooklyn, however I no longer live here, and this was precious catch-up time with my friend. Then I get interrupted mid-sentence by the old-timer DJ from his low seat in a corner behind the bar. I had bumped the bar with my wrist (bumped my wrist watch as well, not deliberately) and then placed my hand down (granted- more than placed but definitely not slammed), and he decided to warn me that I COULD HAVE made his record skip. It was the Eagles or Santana (far from eclectic, but that's just me). I'm also 99% certain he turned the volume up afterwards, making it even harder to enjoy the company. After that interaction, I struggled to pick it back up with my friend, because I found that distraction very effing rude. When this "4th wall" gets broken down with service, it is hard to then enjoy the space in an uninhibited state. I am all for the Tokyo Vinyl Bar vibe, and I'm also for also giving talent an outlet to share their collection, but this interaction colored my experience, and I closed out after one drink and went elsewhere. I mentioned this to the bartender, and he was kind to offer a buy-back of a rare whiskey, which I did accept. 5 stars for the bartender, but 1 for my experience. I don't like to be harsh or unnecessarily cruel, but this is what it is. I have visited in the past and enjoyed myself. Nonetheless, I certainly won't be coming back.
