OMG. Love, love, love!! Wasn't quite busy at opening hours on the weekend but started getting packed around 11AM~12PM. There only seemed to be one waitstaff, so service may be a tad slow. Berry French Toast - 5/5: So many pieces of DELICIOUS french toast drenched in syrup and topped with vanilla anglaise, berries and berry compote. Beautiful presentation. Fried Chicken - 5/5: Fried to perfection, amazing taste and perfectly juicy. Mac & Cheese - 5/5: Delicious mac and cheese, burnt top was nice. We probably raved about this restaurant to our friends for weeks straight after grabbing dinner here. Everything was a hit here, nothing was a miss. Highly recommend the oxtail stew, cornbread skillet (whipped honey butter, enough said), and the chicken roti. Be warned that the roti is not as thin/flaky as one would expect from a Malaysian roti- this one is much more dense, but we LOVED it nonetheless and the boneless chicken "curry" atop the roti was *chefs kiss*. And for beverage, if you're a ginger fan, you gotta get the pine + ginger! We had an excellent meal and we cannot wait to come back! Good food. The biscuits are of note. Skip the minis and just get the regular sized ones. It's worth it and a much better value (personally). We were served by Demmoy. They were kind and kept our water glasses and my friends' mimosas as well. Just be prepared for a wait. (Sunday afternoon) It was maybe 90min even though we were quoted much less. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Visiting from California, I found this place on Yelp. The service was excellent from the time we arrived until we left. We arrived around 12pm on a Sunday, and the wait was about 30 minutes, so add your name to the list and take a walk. The place is cozy and packed. Good music and good vibes. The hostess gave us a call when it was time to be seated. The entire wait staff was super friendly and so welcoming. The pancakes are sooo good! Chicken and waffles are amazing and the Shrimp and grits were so tasty and fresh. Now the best part - the oxtail stew, rice and peas and rum punch were better than any place in Jamaica. Note: This is a 2.5 star review. 2 for the service, 3 for the food. One of the influencers I check out on Instagram made a post recently about this place and the food looked absolutely amazing! I sent it to one of my besties and we decided to go here for dinner. When we arrived there was a wait of about 10 minutes for a table outside, which had been empty for quite some time along with most of the outdoor tables. We went through a few different servers, maybe they were working as a team. It took about 20 minutes to get waters (we ordered at this time), another 15 for my friend's run punch, and we thought the appetizer was about to arrive. Nope. It did not. The wait continued. Mind you there are less than 20 half occupied tables with 4 servers. But wait, it gets interesting... my plate came out 35-45 min after my friend's food. Seems like a normal visit, right? No. It was not. We knew it would be a wait, it was literally written at the bottom of the menu. But, 45 min for the bread appetizer, 1hour 15 min for one diner's entree and two hours from the time I arrived until I got my plate, without a single apology? Might add 2 of the servers that worked with us we're playing on their phones and an ipad during this wait time for food. Was there even an apology for them forgetting to put in my order? No. they didn't even acknowledge that they forgot. They just kept saying it's coming. At one point, one server even asked me what were my sides again? What? When I finally got the order, it came with 2 thighs! The piece i did not want (my friend was taking the thigh). I went inside and let the server know and the she came for me with all the spiciness of a scotch bonnet pepper? No ma'am, Pam! She dialed it back after the proof went back to the kitchen. 15 min later my half breast arrived and we waited another 20 minutes after requesting the bill 4 times! All of this, and the food was mediocre??? I was irritated, yet I was still polite and composed. The collards were decent, the chicken was well seasoned, but the mac & cheese was giving lunch lady with a baked cheese on top. Just no. The biscuit was cute and tasty. Cornbread tasted like sweetened Jiffy, jerk chick was well seasoned, while the rice and peas were dried out. My meal total: $31 (plus I added $9 tax and tip. Yes, I still tipped, I've been a server). Mind you I ordered water. (One of the servers gave us lemonade at the hour, forty-five wait mark). In closing, all I can say is this.... It was a friend's birthday. We arrived around 1 pm on a Saturday and were told the wait would be an hour for 2. We decided to wait. We both were craving fried chicken and the place had great reviews. There were at least 10 other people waiting outside to be seated. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They don't fully utilize the outdoor space. As there were 2 empty four tops outside, that remained empty our entire time waiting as well as while we were dining and leaving. We waited every bit of that hour. The place is small. There were approximately 18-20 seats sprawled over 8 tables. A makeshift bar jammed in the back. My friend and I were sat in a corner. I liked that we both had booth seats and I can see the entire restaurant. Service was okay. The hostess was nice enough. Our server was fine. She seemed tired. Given how small the place was and there were 2 servers and a busboy/bartender. Seemed sufficiently staffed. The birthday girl got the chicken & waffles ($26). I got the fried chicken plate ($28). We also ordered a side of Mac & cheese ($16) and fish fritters ($14) for an appetizer. We did unlimited mimosas. Which is $32 per person for 1 hour. They have 2 flavors regular and tropical. They use Tropicana OJ for the regular. The tropical tasted like guava. Given the size of the operation. They gave us 1 carafe of each flavor. When there was about 1/3 left in each carafe they refilled it. That was our unlimited mimosa. It sufficed. My first gripe with this place was being told NO when I asked for an accommodation. The fried chicken plate came with a leg, thigh and half breast. I absolutely abhor thighs. Im a white meat kinda girl. I'll do a leg though. I asked could I get the whole breast and the leg. I was told no. The kitchen won't do it. I asked what pieces came with the chicken and waffles. I was told a breast and leg or leg and thigh. I asked if I paid an up charge could it happen. NO she makes it how she makes it and won't accommodate substitutions. One can assume the chef must be the owner. Also the only person in the kitchen as I was told. Second gripe was my chicken plate comes with choice of side and a side salad. If you want Mac & cheese it's $5 up charge. Plantains is listed as a side. In fact if I wanted to order a side of plantains they would happily charge me $7 for it. However when I asked for plantains the server told me that's not a side. You can pick yams, potato salad, collard greens etc. No where was this listed on the menu. They made sure to put everything else including calling customers weird if they didn't want waffles with there chicken & waffles. Literally the word weird and Haha is on the menu. I got the yams. The codfish fritters came out in good timing. Considering the place was packed and had only one cook. They were 6 medium/small free form pieces. They were absolutely delicious and the best thing we ate. My only complaint is the batter to codfish ratio was off. I tasted more breading than fish. Almost like it was flavored with codfish. The dipping sauce was nice. Even though I was slightly annoyed about the ordering process. The fritters gave me high hopes about the food to come. Unfortunately no. They advertise as southern/Caribbean cuisine. I'm sorry but there was nothing southern about that fried chicken or them yams. I was happy my friend got a breast and leg. She loves thighs. So we swapped. First the chicken was dark. Since it wasn't over fried. That means the oil was old. Some parts had great texture, other parts were soggy. It was on the bland side. No distinctive taste besides chicken. Very fatty even the breast. Also very huge pieces. Definitely not steroid and antibiotic free. A little pink towards the bone as well. The yams were disgusting. I took one bite and that was it. Literally tasted like yam, sugar and syrup. No cinnamon, nutmeg nothing. There was a mini biscuit on the plate. Seemed homemade due to the layers but hard like the dough was overworked. The birthday girl didn't like the waffles. They weren't fluffy and were overcooked. The Mac & cheese was okay. Advertised as 4 cheeses. The only cheese I tasted was cheddar. The birthday girl who's had my cooking plenty of times said "your Mac & cheese is way better". I concur. They automatically add 20% gratuity to all parties no matter the size. Which the food and service definitely didn't warrant. Also they do nothing special for birthdays. Not even a happy birthday. Unacceptable in my opinion. I honestly wouldn't be dine again. Too much competition. Especially at their prices. I have a feeling the carribbean food is better than the southern food. Stumbled upon this Gem on a beautiful Saturday. I was in the neighborhood and wanted to take mom out for Brunch. I am so happy to have found this place. Upon entering the service was great. Super friendly and attentive. They had just opened a few months ago and I think they haven't created much buzz yet. Hoping that changes for them. The food was good. Really interesting concept of Jamacian x Southern food! We ordered French toast and Jerk Chicken and Waffles. The French toast was soft and fluffy. The maple syrup was serve warmed which added a nice touch. The waffle was okay but the Jerk Chicken needed more flavor and spice. I originally wanted black tea with milk and sugar but they didn't have black tea...like how is that possible? They had all these other teas but black tea. My friend wasn't hungry so she ordered a mixed non alcoholic drink and a hot tea. The food was amazing and the hot chocolate cup was big. So was the tea that my friend ordered. The mixed drink came up quite a bit later. The chicken and waffles was one of the best I've ever had. The chicken was soft on the inside, crispy on the outside and well seasoned. The fruit was sweet and the waffles were soft with a touch of butter. It's everything a chicken and waffle should be. I only gave them four stars because they then started to rush me and my friend out by (1) asking to collect our plates (2) then just dropping off the check. Like we got the hint. I'm from Houston and we have a high standard for the way for tastes and I have been disappointed more times than I'd like to admit since moving to NYC a couple of years ago, but this place gets it right! I had the Southern fried chicken biscuit with a side salad (you, balance). The chicken was tender and juice and moist and had a great flavor. The biscuit was flaky and buttery and delicious just how it should be. Us southerners are very particular about our biscuits. I also ordered the peach lemonade and it was yummy and refreshing and not too sweet. This place is great BUT the wait times def had me hangry for a minute. They were also understaffed which just made everything go so much slower. Some people waited for an hour and left bc there was no telling when they'd be seated. Hopefully they plan to have some type of reservation or at least a real waitlist situation happening at some point because it really is a sore spot for this place. Oof, I really want to give this place more stars because the food was really good. But unfortunately, the restaurant does not seem to have an efficient system worked out and the wait for food is outrageous. We came for brunch one weekend and were told that it would be about a 30-minute wait for a table. Even though we saw plenty of empty tables we said sure, and left our number. We came back later to a mostly empty restaurant and our order was not taken until 20 minutes after we were seated... then we waited another 50 minutes for our food. In the time we waited, we watched as other would-be patrons were turned away and told the wait was about 30-minutes even though only 3 tables were occupied. A delivery person also stood at the door waiting for a long time for the food he was to deliver. The waitress was super nice and obviously the kitchen was doing its best so we didn't complain. I do think it would have been good practice for them to offer complimentary bread or something so that hungry diners aren't sitting around for almost an hour without anything to do. As I mentioned, the food was great. We had oxtails and biscuits with gravy. Everything was delicious and the mac and cheese did not disappoint. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll return anytime soon because I don't have confidence that I'll get food before hanger sets in. read more

My new favorite after work brunch spot. Bae picked out this spot after driving by it a few times and seeing a long line. We went randomly one morning after I got off work and managed to get seated pretty quickly. It's a very small spot so I can understand the long lines on busy days. Anywho, I can't remember our servers name because this review is 9 months late however, she was soooo sweet! We were seated right next to the bar and I started off with the mimosa carafe which did not disappoint. My boyfriend got the red sangria which was bomb! Our server said the owner made the sangria and it's a secret recipe. I was so undecided, I wanted to the entire menu lol, I'm a French toast girl so I got the house French toast with a side of bacon and eggs. My boyfriend kept it simple and got eggs and bacon. Loved my food, I was so full afterwards. We definitely plan to go back to try the rest of the menu. My only suggestion would be to check the website before going because they don't have traditional hours of operation. So yesterday afternoon we came to celebrate my cousins birthday with a late brunch we went to another spot first and it was nothing like was advertised on social media so we took our coins else where and landed in this beautiful gem ! Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff with smiles and great energy we were a group of 4 but started with 2 and that sat us immediately and let us know they would seat our other guest close as they could once they arrived . Our server Tess was amazing !! Such a sweet soul very detail oriented made sure our glasses were always full checked on us throughout and we just had great conversation whenever she came by . Delivered everything with a smile and we're needy guest lol The rest of our party arrived at around 6:15 and the kitchen was closing however Chef Niki still tried to accommodate with making what she could which was sooo appreciated I had the southern fried chicken biscuit the birthday girl had shrimp and grits and when I say DELICIOUS!!! I'm a chef so I know great food and that food was made with love!!! Bottomless mimosas were great and the homemade lemonade!!! I swear my mom made it . The food was definitely not bad, but the service was. Let's start from the beginning... when we first walked in, we were told that we would be seated momentarily and we could see multiple empty tables so figured maybe they'd just take a second to clean and then have us seated. So we sat and waited... for like 15 min before they even let us sit down. Okay, strange but not crazy. Then, it got even worse. After ordering, we patiently waited and waited for our food, until it got to the point where it was becoming excessive. At that point, the lady working there (who seemed to be one of the only people doing anything at the restaurant) began to continuously reassure us that our food would be out shortly every couple min. At first, it put us at ease, but after the 5th or 6th time of saying this, it had been an hour since we ordered, and the food was still not there! If the food is gonna be so slow, then at least just apologize for the slow service rather than lying to us that it would be coming out "in a few min" every few min! We were already running late, so at that point just asked if we could get the check to pay for our drinks and leave, but finally she went into the kitchen and our food arrived. Because it was so late, we were forced to scarf down the food in only a few min. And the food itself was not even that complicated - I could've probably made something similar in 10 min. That being said, the Banana Baby Stuffed French Toast ($18) was decent with soft bread and some tasty banana filling and the Strawberry Passionfruit Lemonade ($6) was decent as well. The place is kind of small but has some cute Carribean-inspired decor all over. But that did not make up for the service speed... At the end of the day, unless you have way too much time on your hands and are willing to wait an hour for your food, I simply cannot recommend Flamingobaby Kitchen. I would much rather just make my own French toast at home than wait hungrily here while being lied to with no apologies. I cannot recommend this place enough! There is a reason it is so highly rated. Not only is it family owned and run, they have some of the best staff I have ever encountered. The place is small but the atmosphere is everything and more! The music is so on par too. Now when it comes to the food, EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was a chef's kiss. I don't know if it's because their food is seriously made with love or they just know how to throw down in the kitchen, or both, but it was scrumptious. Plus they give you good portions - enough to take home. I got the jerk chicken and waffle. Now I'm not usually a fan of jerk sauce but the way this chicken was cooked was mouthwatering. Additionally, my friends had the following dishes : the fried chicken and waffle, the oxtail stew, and the mac & cheese skillet. Again, everything was delicious. This is hands down going forth as one of my top favorite spots in NYC. read more
