Haven't been here for the new renovations but I'm in love. I came here in a Thursday night after a long work day and they had an all night happy hour that hit the spot. $8 drinks selections and very tasty food. Let me also add how amazing the bartender was super friendly, down to earth, and funny. The sorrel infused drinks he made were so delicious with the right kick I enjoyed every sip. This was my third visit to Sugarcane BK, and unfortunately, each experience has gotten progressively worse. My first visit was great -- I went on a Thursday evening and was warmly welcomed by a male manager who was attentive and friendly. I ordered the oxtail, macaroni pie, and callaloo soup -- everything was flavorful and well-prepared. However, on my second visit (a Tuesday), the service was noticeably lacking. I waited over 20 minutes without being acknowledged by the server. I had to flag her down just to order a seltzer, which didn't arrive until my food did -- a delay of about 15-20 minutes. Despite the poor service, the food was still good, which is why I gave it another chance. Unfortunately, my third visit -- which I was excited to share with a friend -- was the worst. We arrived on a Thursday night and were seated quickly, but then ignored for over 20 minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy, so the delay felt inexcusable, especially as we watched staff laughing and chatting with other tables. I had to flag someone down to even find out who our server was. He apologized and finally took our order -- oxtail, callaloo soup, macaroni pie, rice and peas, and calypso wings, along with two Remy with Coke. Then came another long wait -- over 20 minutes -- just for our drinks. My friend nearly walked up to the bar to get them himself. When the drinks finally came, there was no apology for the delay. The wings came out cold and tasted old, like they had been sitting out for a while. When our main dishes arrived, the food was lukewarm at best. The oxtail was tough and gamey, not tender at all. The callaloo soup lacked any real flavor and also tasted like it had been sitting too long. My friend didn't receive his macaroni pie initially, which had to be followed up on. To top it off, as I was eating, I found an eggshell under one of my oxtails. When I brought it to the waiter's attention, he brought over the bartender -- who also turned out to be a chef. He apologized and offered to remake the dish, but by then the entire experience had soured and I declined. He asked that we not leave a bad review and encouraged us to come back, but during the remainder of our time there, we were ignored while the staff focused on another table of women -- laughing, socializing, and even giving out shots. We eventually flagged down the waiter to ask for the bill. The only gesture made to remedy our experience was comping one oxtail dish -- not enough to make up for the repeated disappointments throughout the night. I am very dissatisfied with the service at Sugarcane BK. I made reservations and when I arrived, there were no tables available and we had to wait for people to leave and them to clean. Not only did all the food take forever to come out, but they were very disorganized, and all over the place. If I order appetizers, I would expect them to come out before my entrees, not alongside them. If I order peas and rice, I expect that to be on my plate, not a side of vegetables . When I bring this up to the waiter/alleged manager 'Wendell' he did nothing to accommodate me, but tacked on a mandatory 20% gratuity. This place is terrible. Horrible smell and waiters and help staff suck. You can tell they are struggling. First, I get there around 6 and wait -at the door for about 5 minutes. Today i visited sugarcane bk again since my last visit in maybe 2016. I remember coming here and loving the vibes and the food but something has definately fallen off. The restaurant was updated and looked nice. Staff was friendly, drinks were great, a little too good lol, but the food was lacking to me, something is missing. The caribbean calamari was just regular..nothing special so why call it caribbean as though it has a special flavor. I actually found weird fried stuff in my calamari plate..it turned me off, iam guessing its old food from the fryer that needs to be cleaned. The fried rice and jambalasi salmon was a 5 out of 10... my plate was full of oil and i had to ask for more rice because it was swimming in oil.. it was a turn off. The salmon lacked flavor and taste fresh. I asked for cabbage and received fresh salad...at that point i figured why complain, I just wont revisit. My husbands snapper sauce was good but his peas n rice was extra dark and looked old, he said it taste ok. He loved the calaloo soup. My friend and I decided to head here for a last minute dinner on Sunday. We arrived at 7pm and was seated immediately. We had perfect timing because we got one of the two tables that were available and it got packed right after. It gets pretty loud in here and they have good music playing in the background. They also had the All-star game on. Service was lacking and this could be due to the fact that gratuity is automatically included (18% or 20% for parties of 4 or more). Service- We were seated for at least 5 minutes before our server came to the table and said he'd be with us shortly. No name or introduction but whatever, no big deal. We finally place our drink and appetizer order. 20 minutes later our appetizers arrived but the drinks were still M.I.A. and we had no side plates. Umm okay. Few minutes later drinks arrived along with the plates we requested. It would take another 30 minutes before we were able to place our order for the entrees. The only plus to this is that the entrees came out fairly fast (10-15 mins). Drinks- a huge part of the 4 stars given! The drinks were REALLY good and strong, especially the "ochi vibe". I originally ordered the frozen rum punch and my friend had the ochi vibe but it was so strong, she took my rum punch instead. We didn't bother ordering more drinks because the service was a bit too slow. Food- we started with the taco sampler 2 which has chicken, shrimp, and salmon (sampler 1 has fish instead of chicken). The tacos were actually pretty good! They were flavorful and moist. I had the oxtail with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes tasted plain, not like garlic mashed but it was good nonetheless. The oxtail was well seasoned and tender, exactly what I was craving. My friend had the jerk salmon which was cooked perfectly. It wasn't over cooked or dried out and the jerk sauce over it was pretty good. We also ordered another taco sampler to go. Although the service needs some improvement, the review went from a 3 to 4 star because as the night went on, our server, who still never said his name, became Mr. personality when he was at our table. The waiter izodu (sounds like that) couldn't hear our drink orders due to the music volume so we had to repeat it about 6 times and then point to the menu for our orders. We all decided to start with chicken strips and for some strange reason he wanted us to place our dinner orders right away. My girlfriend screamed over the music can we just get our beverages! ? he got the point then. another gentleman came back with our orders and another with the appetizers and small plates. The chicken strips were really good with the honey drizzle. i decided for dinner I would have the fried chicken with potato salad and coconut rice. My girlfriends ordered the fried shrimp w/sweet potato fries and the other stew oxtail with potato salad and macaroni pie for sides. My food was so good I shared one piece between the two friends (they're luck because I don't like to share lol) my girlfriend with the oxtail asked for the manager because the oxtail had way too much salt - I agreed and they took it off the bill. I had no food complaints but I had to tell them the AC was dripping on me from time to time. One of my friends decided since her oxtails was so salty (which they refunded $30) she would get a salmon with mash and tamarind wings to go. They brought her order and the salmon was a super small they agreed and brought her another and let her keep the first order. I came here for a double date night. This was my first time coming here. They don't seat you unless your full party is there which is understandable. They offer outdoor seating and indoor seating. The food takes a while to come so make sure you put your order in early. The portion size are decent. The drinks oh the drinks. They are perfectly strong for the price so I don't mind much. However, following the renovations at Sugarcane on Flatbush Avenue, it appears that customer service, along with other aspects of the establishment, may have suffered as a result of prioritizing the upgrades. My girlfriend and I went to Sugar Cane's. We arrived around 5:50. The restaurant opened at five. It was one of the hottest days in Brooklyn, and the place had zero AC. This place was not even packed. There were more than 10 customers, seven of whom were at the bar, and it was hot. The bartender, his name was Chris, was moving slower than molasses. I came in. I asked for a drink, and I must have aged 10 years waiting for a sorrel martini. Just when you think things couldn't get worse, we ordered some wings. My order got mixed up, and we received the sampler wings with fries instead. The fries came with no ketchup. When we asked for ketchup, the server told us he didn't have ketchup 20 minutes later, we saw someone else eating the same thing we had, and they had ketchup. When I brought this to the service's attention, he said, 'Oh yeah, I just went to the store to get ketchup.' I mean they're closed on Monday. They open on Tuesday. It's 6:30 in the evening. They open at five, so who is doing inventory for you to run out of catch-up on the first day you're opening? It doesn't make any sense at all. The management has just gone to hell and back. I need to close it down and possibly re-renovate the staff this time before reopening it. We didn't even wait for the food we had ordered. Calamari didn't have any calamari. We ordered grilled shrimp and a chicken roti, but we ended up paying the bill and walking out without our food. My tip to anyone is not to go to Sugar Cane. The music was great and I enjoyed vibing to the Caribbean tunes while enjoying the food and the atmosphere. I decided to chose an entree from the brunch menu because brunch was still going on while we were there. Brunch hours is from noon to 5pm which is good. However, there wasn't too many brunch entrees to choose from which is why I chose the chicken and waffles for my entree. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, there was a hint of cinnamon in the waffles which made the waffle taste really good. The West Indian fried chicken was served piping hot and tasted delicious. My friends and I came here on a Friday evening. For starters we were running late and past our reservation but they were nice enough to still accommodate us. We had a few rounds of rum punch which was very good. Perfect balance of punch & alcohol. For my meal I had the Jambalasi Salmon w/ macaroni pie & broccoli *all of the flavors were amazing!!!! My taste buds were hopping for joy*. The down side is they don't offer a happy hour on Fridays. So all drinks are regular price.... luckily they don't skimp on the alcohol so 2 drinks should be just fine. First, let's begin talking about how horrible the service was here. When we walked in the host didn't even acknowledge us and when we put our name down apparently there is no system to know when your next in line so you have to wait outside which would have been fine if it wasn't cold. Second, i put a timer on my phone after I had been seated, went to the bathroom, and came back and waited over 20m for a Waiter to introduce themselves and take our drink order.
