Trinidad Chinese Whole Snapper with Peas And Rice and and Sautéed Cabbage - A square white plate contains a whole cooked fish with sauce, accompanied by a mound of rice and beans, and a portion of sautéed vegetables with shredded carrots and cabbage. The dish is set on a dark table with utensils and a drink visible in the background.

Haven't been here for the new renovations but I'm in love. I came here in a Thursday night after a long work day and they had an all night happy hour that hit the spot. $8 drinks selections and very tasty food. Let me also add how amazing the bartender was super friendly, down to earth, and funny. The sorrel infused drinks he made were so delicious with the right kick I enjoyed every sip. I absolutely love the tacos here the trio which consist of salmon, shrimp, and chicken. Well seasoned and the mango slaw topping with garlic aioli was perfect. The Trini style fried chicken was nice and crispy could've used all but more seasoning but was still good, accompanied by the delicious Mac and cheese and fries really enjoyed it. Definitely coming back.

The wrong order received ( chicken for a vegan)

Im using my sisters yelp, as I don't have my own... but I placed an order on and when I say I was so disappointed. As a vegan. They sent chicken. I was so upset because delivery took so long. My husband salmon tacos was undercooked. Very unprofessional. That's are the biggest problems that could happen. They accomplished all. Forget to take a picture of the tacos as I was having a fit about the chicken. I called spoke to a male( who stated he was a manager) he didn't do anything... but I will not eat from them anymore

The Bad gal was on point (yellow) - Two cocktails, one pink and one yellow, are placed on black napkins on a wooden table. Each drink is garnished with a lime wedge, blue flower, and a straw—red for the pink drink and black for the yellow. The background shows a blurred interior with a beige wall and a ceiling with a light fixture. The drinks are in clear glasses, and the setting appears to be a casual dining environment.

I use to love this place but I think it's changed so much. The food has falling off drastically. The drinks are still good. The staff was really nice. I would go back for appetizers and drinks. The bad gal and the Sorrel Grimm was so delicious

Red sangria with sorrel - yummy - A dark-colored beverage in a rounded glass is garnished with a purple orchid flower, a slice of pineapple, and a red straw. The drink appears to be served on a wooden table in a restaurant or cafe setting, with other glasses and items visible in the background.

Sugarcane BK is definitely an amazing spot for Caribbean food fusion with great service in a beautiful atmosphere. I loved every bite and the sangria is made with sorrel and it is on point!

I like my jerk chicken SPICY!! Rates 7. Rice was good, chicken-more on the sweet side, not spicy enough, Mango slaw was the best part.

Came here for my boyfriends birthday, it's his favorite spot. My first time.. I've lived in Jamaica for a few years so I'm a bit of a Jamaican food snob.. overall rated a 7. Service definitely lacking but the food was decent. This is more of a lounge setting with good music, not a place for having a conversation They didn't have diet soda, (it's a bar! No diet soda is not acceptable) and all the food came out warm - not hot. The wings were great not as crispy as I like but the sauce was amazing the chicken was nice and juicy. I would've like it more if it came out hot. Rated a 9. Jerk chicken portion was good and super juicy but the jerk sauce too sweet not enough heat. Rated a 7. The mango slaw was the best part of the dish. The rice was decent too, I asked for hot sauce and after going downstairs to the basement then to the kitchen window.. no hot sauce??? That's unimaginable. My boyfriend enjoyed his jerk salmon dish, but portion was pretty small for the price. I tasted his callaloo soup & that was pretty damn good. Highly recommend! Rated an 8.

I am very dissatisfied with the service at Sugarcane BK. I made reservations and when I arrived, there were no tables available and we had to wait for people to leave and them to clean. Not only did all the food take forever to come out, but they were very disorganized, and all over the place. If I order appetizers, I would expect them to come out before my entrees, not alongside them. If I order peas and rice, I expect that to be on my plate, not a side of vegetables . When I bring this up to the waiter/alleged manager 'Wendell' he did nothing to accommodate me, but tacked on a mandatory 20% gratuity. I am very disappointed in the service here because the food was actually pretty decent. Unfortunately, I will not be returning as a result of this experience and would not recommend.

If you are going to the Barclays Center for a game or a concert this restaurant might make you late. The service is slow. The drinks take a long time and the food takes a long time. The staff was confused and brought the wrong things to the table. The staff was really nice but we needed the correct things so we could eat, drink, then leave. The drinks and food were delicious. I would definitely comeback and give them another try. Hopefully the service would be faster.

    Glass in food.

Came here with my husband. There was glass in my husband's food. It is unsafe to eat here.

Fried Chicken with cabbage and Rice&Peas - A square white plate contains fried chicken, a mound of rice and peas, and a side of cabbage with red pepper strips. The dish is placed on a wooden table with utensils on the side. In the background, another similar plate with food is visible.

This place has fell off on food and service. We were seated very quickly which was good, menu had more drinks than food. Not even water was put down on the table. I ordered the fried chicken with Rice&Peas and cabbage. The cabbage was Salty! The chicken was not fresh and dried out, the Rice&Peas was hard. I do not recommend going here. The is nice establishment for ambiance, the food and service is trash.

Fried snapper topped with creole shrimp side of rice and peas and Macaroni pie - A square white plate contains a fried fish with dark seasoning, a portion of rice and peas, and a piece of fried plantain. The dish is presented on a wooden table with utensils and a napkin nearby, indicating a Caribbean cuisine setting.

Tasty Caribbean food, chill atmosphere, great music and vibes! Food: - Trinidadian/Caribbean cuisine- the menu contains a wide variety of Caribbean foods such as oxtail, stew chicken, callaloo, cou cou, fish, and much more! There are also other options such as wings and tacos to cater to everyone liking. The food has authentic and excellent flavor. A bit on the pricey side than normal Caribbean order and pick up restaurants, however you are paying for the atmosphere. - They also have alcohol beverages with a twist of the Caribbean such as Sorrel mojitos, Sorrel margaritas, etc. The drinks were strong, fragrant, and tasty. - Entree pick: Stew chicken with a side of callaloo and Macaroni pie... absolutely delicious! Everything on my plate was a hit. The entrees can be served with optional sides such as potato salad, fried plantains, Cole slaw, mashed potato, stew peas... the list goes on. The Macaroni pie was so savory and flavorsome, it paired perfectly with the stew chicken and calalloo. The calalloo was also very delicious. Absolutely no complaints with my dish. - Entree pick: Fried snapper topped with creole shrimp served with a side of Macaroni pie and rice and peas. The rice and peas was fluffy and well seasoned. Again, the Macaroni was a hit! The fish was flaky and tender, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The well seasoned creole shrimp complimented the fish very well. Seating: -  the restaurant is very small. They definitely need a bigger space to accommodate the high demand. However, it was intimate, dim lights, great music, and a chill vibe. Parking: - Street parking. Visitors... you must know how to parallel park. Lol Staff: - Pleasant staff. Being that this was my first time here they didn't rush me. The waiter was friendly and answered any questions I had. He gave great recommendations on the beverages. The sorrel mojito and sorrel margarita was excellent. COVID 19 Regulations: - The staff wears masks. You must show proof of vaccination per NY state law to dine in. They sanitize after each patron. Overall: - Whenever I visit NY this place is a must have. I will definitely be back. The food is delicious, the restaurant is clean and nice, they have a wide variety of food options for everyone's liking.

My friend and I decided to head here for a last minute dinner on Sunday. We arrived at 7pm and was seated immediately. We had perfect timing because we got one of the two tables that were available and it got packed right after. It gets pretty loud in here and they have good music playing in the background. They also had the All-star game on. Service was lacking and this could be due to the fact that gratuity is automatically included (18% or 20% for parties of 4 or more). Service- We were seated for at least 5 minutes before our server came to the table and said he'd be with us shortly. No name or introduction but whatever, no big deal. We finally place our drink and appetizer order. 20 minutes later our appetizers arrived but the drinks were still M.I.A. and we had no side plates. Umm okay. Few minutes later drinks arrived along with the plates we requested. It would take another 30 minutes before we were able to place our order for the entrees. The only plus to this is that the entrees came out fairly fast (10-15 mins). Drinks- a huge part of the 4 stars given! The drinks were REALLY good and strong, especially the "ochi vibe". I originally ordered the frozen rum punch and my friend had the ochi vibe but it was so strong, she took my rum punch instead. We didn't bother ordering more drinks because the service was a bit too slow. Food- we started with the taco sampler 2 which has chicken, shrimp, and salmon (sampler 1 has fish instead of chicken). The tacos were actually pretty good! They were flavorful and moist. I had the oxtail with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes tasted plain, not like garlic mashed but it was good nonetheless. The oxtail was well seasoned and tender, exactly what I was craving. My friend had the jerk salmon which was cooked perfectly. It wasn't over cooked or dried out and the jerk sauce over it was pretty good. We also ordered another taco sampler to go. Although the service needs some improvement, the review went from a 3 to 4 star because as the night went on, our server, who still never said his name, became Mr. personality when he was at our table. The food and drinks were definitely worthy of the price as well.

A printed receipt from Sugarcane BK located at 238 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, shows a subtotal of $72.00, taxes of $6.39, and a total of $92.79. The receipt includes a space for an additional tip, which is not filled in, and has a section for payment by credit card. The receipt also lists the cashier's name as Shaina and includes transaction details and contact information for the restaurant.

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

For my hubby, Brooklyn is home - and we always love exploring the new places the city has to offer when we visit. We had reservations, and were seated within 10 minutes, which was reasonable. The place was packed - everyone was in high spirits, and I was ready to taste some of the best Caribbean cuisine in the region. My hubby's best friend - a Brooklyn resident, joined us. He had been to the restaurant a few times - and had good things to say. We were not disappointed. I had the Brown Stew Red Snapper - *chef's kiss*. Hubby had the iconic Jerk Oxtail over Macaroni & Cheese Pie! The English language cannot convey the beauty of that combination! Tender, tender oxtail, falling off the bone with the creamy, cheesy mac & cheese! He wanted to savor that dish another day, so he got a to-go bag and took it back to the hotel! (I couldn't help but clean my plate - I was obsessed with the fish!) Our friend enjoyed the Hennessy Fried Shrimp (not pictured) - one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant. It looked delicious as well. For drinks, I had the Bob Marley cocktail. A colorful drink - flavorful - and effective! There were people celebrating their birthdays throughout the night - and the wait staff goes IN! I was enjoying watching at least 10 people receive the Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" song while we were there. Imagine my surprise when it was my turn! When the water still did not come, I asked a third time. At that point, she told me they only had sparkling water. Ma'am... were you ever going to tell me? Or was I supposed to just sit there guessing and waiting? I was two seconds from going to grab a bottle out of my car. Food: * Cod fish fritters (appetizer): very good, and the aioli really elevated the flavor * Brown stew snapper with veggies, rice and beans, and mac and cheese: the snapper itself was flavorful but not hot, which was disappointing. The veggies lacked seasoning, and the mac and cheese tasted like plain noodles with cheese * Oxtails (my mom): she loved them, but they were just okay to me * Chicken and waffles (my husband): he enjoyed it * Fresh fruit punch: absolutely delicious Service: This is where things went downhill. After the initial interaction, I had to constantly look for our server or any staff member whenever I needed something. Not once did anyone check in to ask if we needed anything or how everything was. That level of inattentiveness is unacceptable. I was extremely annoyed. This is not the experience I expected based on reviews, but then I realized something important. Google and Yelp reviews are very different. Yelp reviewers tend to be more honest and consistent, and I should have listened. Final Thoughts: Traveling all the way from Boston for this experience was a letdown. Between having to chase service and inconsistent food quality, it simply was not worth it. If it were not for how I was raised, the tip would have been 10 percent, and even that would have been forced. But this is a reminder that no matter how good your cocktails are, no matter how delicious your food is, service is king, and a 20% automatic gratuity can often enable some pretty terrible staff management and lackadaisical attitudes. What a waste. I came here on Tuesday night with my top-tier chum to grab a drink before the Nets/Celtics game. I showed up about 15 minutes before she did and was able to secure two spots at the bar before her arrival. While I waited for her, I ordered a Dream Catcher, which sounded super tasty (Patron, and a lot of pineapple vibes)...and then I waited some more. The bartender was nice but she was just WAY too slow. She wasn't able to multitask and my drink literally took 10-15 minutes to make, which is just not acceptable, especially when it was clear it was the only one she was working on. It showed up a minute before my friend did, and my 15-minute head start was rendered completely moot. The other ominous development right from the start? While the bartender was slowly making the drink, two members of the waitstaff were just hanging out at the end of the bar playing on their phones. So already, it was clear that the support staff hadn't been managed/instructed to pitch in during periods of need. The drink itself was actually really good; it just took a ridiculous amount of time for her to make, which to me is both a strong indicator that you need to train her to do this quickly without losing the quality of the beverage and also ensuring that you have at least one other person helping her behind the bar. The bar itself was pretty packed and there wasn't a moment where she wasn't doing something. Read the room and get off your phone. That to me is an unforgiveable sin. When my friend showed up, she also ordered the Dream Catcher, and we got the Crab Rangoon and Shrimp Tempura apps to munch on. The apps came out pretty quickly and were really good - fried perfectly, which I think is the area where it's easy to overdo it and potentially ruin these items. Huge points there and made the service problems even more frustrating. We weren't provided with napkins/silverware to eat the apps, so my chum had to wander around the establishment looking for them (no one assisted her in that search). The slow bartending reared its head immediately and my chum also had to deal with a mystifying 15-minute wait for her cocktail. We had about 40 minutes to play with before we had to be at the game, but because the service was so mediocre, we couldn't risk it - so they missed out on a second drinks and apps. Just leaving money on the table. We were so disappointed walking out of there. A lot of the qualities you'd want to pre-game before an NBA matchup are here, and I didn't even get into the ambience, which was both pretty chill with dim lighting but also had a little electricity in it. They have a ton of good material to work with . But if you can't trust the staff to be engaged and provide quality hospitality, it doesn't really matter. We had a conversation about coming back here some other time potentially but they just don't deserve it. Also, if you're trying this hard to figure out a way to strategically have a good time at a bar, that's all you need to know - you've answered your own question. And when we saw the 20% gratuity added? Final slap in the face. Frankly, if you're going to do that, at the very least let us know when you hand us the bill that it's added on; it's so easy to miss in a darkened bar, and given the other issues I just can't give the benefit of the doubt there. But this is why automatic gratuities need to be abolished. The bartender and the rest of the staff have no incentive to roll up their sleeves and provide a positive experience - they're getting paid no matter what. Hopefully management really takes a step back to reconsider their stance here or at least improve the staffing so they don't take all of the legitimate positives here and throw them in the trash can. You should be building on the good stuff, not canceling it out.
