Yes, the food really is that good. It's a little pricey, but worth it. It's VERY heavy and filling. The oxtail grilled cheese is rich, buttery, and honestly heavy enough to split -- I never finish the whole thing. The oxtail leans a bit sweet, so if you're more into savory or spicy, just keep that in mind. The mac and cheese is a solid portion, super creamy with a slight kick, and they were making it fresh when I got there. Staff is generally friendly, but this time the guy calling orders had a bit of an attitude -- kind of short with some people (myself included), but noticeably nicer to others, mostly women, which felt a little off. This spot has been "bookmarked" to check out for awhile. It's located in the Albee Square food court downtown Brooklyn. I arrived early afternoon and it wasn't to busy. They have the menu up top to view or you can scan it. I already knew what I was ordering based on Yelp reviews. I ordered the oxtail grill cheese sandwich. I also ordered the quarter rotisserie chicken with a side of the mango pickled slaw and the roasted corn with coconut. I ate the oxtail sandwich for lunch with my homemade side salad. I'm not a huge fan of oxtail but I was expecting more from this sandwich. I loved that it was soft and fulfilling but I wasn't a big fan. It was a bit bland to me and don't think I would order again but it did eat every bit of it and it filled me up. Now baby the overall winner and reason I would return is that rotisserie chicken. Omg, I kept smelling that chicken on the train ride home. I ate this for dinner and it was delicious. My sides were also amazing, nicely seasoned and flavorful. I've only been to this location of Fat Fowl and enjoy my visit every time. I stopped after taking an exam nearby and got the Quarter chicken with charred broccoli and waffle fries. My total for all 4 items came to $65 *YIKES*! The food didnt take long and I was excited to try. The Oxtail grilled cheese was everything I read about, very good. Fresh oxtail was for sure used. The Rose Lemonade was also good. Not too sweet but still refreshing. That is where the satisfaction stopped for what I orderer. The mac was mid. I guess I was expecting too much because it for sure was not soul food style Mac + Cheese. Just a cheesier Kraft style with a little seasoning tossed in. The Sweet Potatoes were HORRIBLE. NEW AGE CARIBBEAN TAKE ON BOSTON MARKET I usually get sidetracked when I'm in food halls but trust me it's worth the trip to the back in order to sample what Chef Shorne is cooking up back there. I had the pleasure of eating some of Chef Shorne's cooking at a Caribbean foodie event and his passion for his craft was evident. So when I found out that he had a spot in Dekalb Market , I knew that I had to pull up... and pull up I did several times over! I enjoy a flavorful dark meat piece of rotisserie chicken. So when you add in subtle notes of lavender and keep the meat moist, this reinvigorated rotisserie chicken becomes the shining star. The Honey Lavender sauce is good for a couple drips upon reheating but is not necessary. A shoutout goes to the Black Fried Rice which is a wonderful take on the Haitian classic without skimping on djon djon mushrooms in the creation of this side that serves up main dish energy. Don't skip the Pickled Mango Slaw! I'm so satisfied with the Organic Lavender Rotisserie Chicken that I still haven't made it to the Oxtail Grilled Cheese. I love to support my fellow Caribbeans whenever possible and a little more intentionally during February for Black History Month and June for Caribbean Heritage Month. I walked up to Usher and Rihanna playing while chefs sautéed vegetable sides and 7 cheese macaroni in front of you. This is a soft launch so the menu had a choice of 2 proteins(chicken or fish), a few sandwich items, and a bunch of interesting sides. I got the infamous oxtail grilled cheese sandwich which they make fresh right in front of you. It was tasty and full of meat. I ate at Fat Fowl around 1pm on 5/13/26. I ordered a half chicken with garlic green beans and the black fried rice. The wait was longer than expected but that's fine, the biggest issue was the food. The entire plate was cold! The chicken was super dry it tasted like it was sitting around for a really long time and was far from fresh. The garlic string beans although cold did taste good. I took one for the team, so to speak, and recently (today, Dec. 18 '25) tucked in to the following (and they were so significant I'm outlining them old school): Rotisserie Chicken - brined for 24 hours in a liquid that includes lavender buds, this poultry quarter presented the first drumstick I have eaten clean plate club way. The bone was, literally, clean upon my eating. Both it and the thigh were tender, savory, floral, the hint of sweet wasn't cloying, the skin was studded with herbs (and I imagined it scored and fried chicharrónes-style), and so juicy I soon gave up using my fingers and took to a fork and knife. Note the tamarind barbecue sauce that came with was so good, I ate it with a spoon. Yes. I did. Green beans - let it be known I loathe few foods. Until today, green beans were on this list. Tender and crisp, bright and nutty, and as much as the word is overused these green beans emit umami. I ate them as though they were edamame, which is to say one after another without protein or starch interruption. Macaroni & Cheese - so, I'm proud of the macaroni & cheese I make (Joy of Cooking tweaked). Mine doesn't stand anywhere near Fat Fowl's. I watched Chef Shorne make it, and the layers of flavor on these twisty noodles made sense between the three or four steps I witnessed from my seat in front of the kitchen. Comforting without being expected, beautiful without being too much, stunning to see with multiple cheeses and who knows what else resulting in a color happily between Kraft and Stouffers. Jerk corn - I'm not supposed to eat anything made of corn or with ingredients derived from corn (because my gall bladder was removed). Generally, I tow the line here and allow cob-related dishes. Chef Shorne's jerk corn could replace cornbread, eloté, and corn on the cob loaded with melted butter and chili pepper. Simultaneously, these kernels are sweet, salty, smoky, spicy, they taste great hot and at room temp, the cheese included isn't a topping as much as it's a complement. Branzino - I watched Chef Shorne sear skin side down and baste with butter a branzino filet. When it was served to me, and I tasted the gloriously tender, flaky fish and so crisp you could hear it skin, I sat back in the chair after first bite. What was fruity, bright, and somewhat hot, pairing beautifully with thyme and garlic? I asked the chef. When I learned it was scotch bonnet, I put down my fork. Chef Shorne has turned the Scovel scale on its head. Broccoli - imagine cooking techniques raw and sauté merge. The result is the texture of Fat Fowl's broccoli spears. This toothsome veg encourages you to eat them slowly. You'll want to do that, because their accompanying chef-made sambal sauce changes every interestingly made green crucifer you've had. Quinoa and black beans - I've never seen quinoa as, for lack of a better word, graceful and elegant as this one is. The coconut with which it's cooked may do something chemical to the grain, the accompanying black beans provide a wonderful textural counterpoint. In lieu of rice, which I might expect with fish and broccoli, Fat Fowl's quinoa gives rice a run for its money. Fat Fowl is located in the high energy food hall assortment. Nearest the private event space, foot traffic around and to this spot is fairly constant.
