I drove to Katie O Soul and liked there was a short line and DJ outside. One window opened a wonderful young lady asked if I have eaten there before and I said no. I love the tiny sample cups and spoons because you try before you buy and know exactly what to order once you get to the cashier. The frozen pina colada was super creamy and perfect amount of sweetness. The Mac and cheese and candied yams were a perfect combo for me. The fried chicken wings were well seasoned like someone granny made it. Be prepared to wake because I was there over 10 mins and my food was piping hot like the chicken was just fried. I will definitely be back for the customer service and food. I also love any donations (they don't accept tips) the team claps and announce to the crowd and all proceeds provide FREE home cooked meals to people in need.

They told him it was a new register person she got the order and name wrong waited another thirty minutes for my order. I wanted a refund but my boyfriend paid and he also wanted to try the food. Too bad I don't have the appetite to rate the food.

We first went to peppas cuz i wanted jerk pork, but they didn't have it. So we came here for it and it was the best decision i made! I ordered a small jerk pork and two festivals. It was so good, spicy, and perfectly seasoned. The festival was nice and fat with a subtle sweetness that i enjoyed. The portion sizes were pretty decent. For mine i paid i believe $13. The service was very good. We came a little after 7 on a Sunday and they had plenty of food available. The women working the counter were very nice and sweet. They were also very accommodating as well. Ensuring that we had everything we needed. Keep In mind this is a cash only place. They also accept zelle. But no cards. I will be back for some spinach rice and maybe to try the jerk chicken and curry goat. 4 out of 5 See pics below

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.

Overall, I'd say that Bark Barbecue is one of the better food spots in all of Dumbo, though still not mindblowing. I went several times at peak dinner service (30+ min wait) and the meat was soft, melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, and incredible, but I went again around 6pm before peak dinner service (no line, yay!) and noticed the pulled pork was very dry and not as piping hot - definitely had been left out under the heat lamps for a while before I received my order. Pros and cons of the timing, I suppose! Love their BBQ sauce. Drenching the meat is my favorite part. Busy spot in Timeout Market but is always my personal must try if I MUST eat in Dumbo.

The pulled pork itself wasn't anything special, but the sandwich was nice and juicy and loved how the plantain made it sweet. 7/10. Mac & cheese was super cheesy and flavorful, but the texture was way too soft for me. There was even some unmelted cheese that you could mix in. 4/10.
