Marsha potatoes, chicken and greens .

The food and service were fantastic! The snack pack with wings and salad was a chef's kiss. The BBQ turkey wings were tender and fell right off the bone. The yams, mashed potatoes, and greens with smoked turkey did not disappoint. Pro tip: arrive 30 minutes before opening and have your card ready. Don't walk--run for "Food for the People!"

What an experience! The entire staff, owner etc. was so pleasant. The owner was so welcoming. You're immediately greeted when you walk in and asked if you would like to try samples of the food. Everything is made fresh to order. The food was delicious. I drove out from Queens to try it and I'll be back. The day I went, they was playing oldies outside, felt like I was home with family. 10/10 recommend.

So I saw the video online and decided that since I had time, I would venture out to BK for some soul food. While the service was good and the owner pleasant and courteous, no repeat for me. The prices are very high but I ordered the pork chop platter $25 cool and the chickens bite snack $12. The pork chop fried to perfection and tasted great. The chicken bites were good just not enough. The sides I only will recommend the collards which were very good meaty and a kick. Potato salad was ok needed a boost in flavor. The Mac and cheese was also ok but no reason to order again. The yams needed up being mashed sweets with a WHOLE LOTTA SUGAR of some sort, no cinnamon or nutmeg just sugar. They say the wait time is about 30 minutes overall not worth the wait, IMO. While I live 200 mile's away and took the train from Penn to BK and back about 1 hour I don't see me going again or recommending unless you live close by and nothing decent is available. The food was edible but just okay to me. Small spot with about 6 seat to wait on your order. Very small menu selections

So good.

I scrolled on by this restaurant late night while searching for soul food on Uber Eats. Of course fees/taxes and such are ridiculous so I decided to wait an extra day and stop by in person and I'm glad I did. Customer service is superb. Very pleasant people in a small hole in the wall joint. Hubby ordered and waited outside for the food because you know, Covid! Moving along. The food is AMAZING! It's very hard to find good soul food in the city, let alone in Brooklyn. All was great, however I do have a very few minor complaints. The jerk pork is made with what I believe were Ham-Hocks and that turned me completely off due to all the unnecessary fat and strong taste of the hocks. The jerk flavor was on point of course but I wasn't expecting Jerk Pork to be a ham hock. Secondly the collard greens are overly seasoned but nonetheless it taste great, not entirely like collards but great. Lastly, the chicken was also overly seasoned on the salty side but again it was very good. A little less seasoning on the greens and chicken, along with real pork butt or pork shoulder would make this a 5 star joint for sure. Macaroni and cheese was some cheesy goodness and so were the yams and potato salad. Will I come back again? Heck Yes! Grab a friend, place and order to go and sit down outside to eat. I chose to eat it at home because I had to absorb all the goodness while in the comfort of my home and couch lol.

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

What's to cheer - Nice not to too sweet homemade rum punch - Solid, flavorful oxtail. Very island spiced and cooked well - Goat was also really strong - Reasonable prices - service with personality What's to jeer - they were out of the jerk chicken unfortunately which I really wanted to try - place is pretty low key and not swimming with ambience

I discovered Kokomo because I knew I wanted our wedding celebration to be in Williamsburg -- a neighborhood that holds so many memories for me growing up in the Bronx and exploring the city as a kid. We flew in from Los Angeles and truly made it a full wedding week experience. I planned the wedding myself, so I had been communicating with Joel for months leading up to the event. We reserved the Champagne Room, which felt like its own beautiful oasis. As a Jamaican-American woman, it meant so much to know my disabled mother would feel culturally comfortable, welcomed, and safe in the space and with the food. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, attentive, and calming. Our server especially helped ease my nerves while we were finalizing seating and guest details, and after that, I genuinely did not have to worry about a thing. And the food? Absolutely incredible. Truly perfection. As a vegan, it meant so much to fully enjoy every part of my wedding meal without compromise. The rum punch was fantastic, our guests loved the open bar package, and the entire evening flowed so seamlessly. The aesthetic is pure island luxury -- elevated, warm, vibrant, and beautiful. The communication from the owners and management team was excellent throughout the entire process, and I even had the chance to finally meet Joel at the end of the night after months of planning together, which was such a lovely touch. I was also able to personally thank the chefs. We even accidentally left my bouquet behind, and the team kindly helped us retrieve it the next day. Kokomo NYC is officially a staple in our family now. I already know we will celebrate future milestones there and visit often whenever we are back in New York. It makes me proud to support a Black Caribbean-owned business that creates such meaningful experiences with so much care and excellence. I truly cannot imagine our wedding without Kokomo, and I'm so grateful they were part of our story. : @lensofher

When I asked for some spice the server brought us some pepper sauce which was exactly what I needed! My sister tried their jerk wings and mac and cheese. Their Mac and cheese is WOW. Definitely recommend! I didn't try their wings but I tried the sauce that comes with the wings and it had a lovely kick to it. For dessert we shared the Plantain Paradise and the ice cream paired so great with the plantains. It was vanilla ice cream but didn't taste like regular vanilla ice cream.. it had a nice rich texture . Service was great, the music was nice and although it was a bit cold in there they had a blanket per table which I thought was a cool concept.

I'm Dominican so I know oxtail pretty well and have made it myself. Thankfully, this place absolutely delivered. The oxtail was perfectly slow-braised, tender, and falling right off the bone -- exactly how it should be. Absolutely amazing. Of course I had the rice and peas, plus some veggies. A few of the veggies were slightly overcooked, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The drinks looked incredible, but I went with the rum punch and loved it. It was a little sweet, but super flavorful, strong, and definitely worth ordering again. For dessert, I had the Hennessy cheesecake, which was rich, decadent, and unbelievably delicious. There were three of us dining, and we all left completely satisfied -- with take-home containers because the portions are VERY generous. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that our server seemed to focus most of her attention on my friend. She is Jamaican, and because I look like a white American woman, I felt a little overlooked at times, even when I had several requests myself. We also had to look for her a couple of times while she was sitting with a group nearby. That said, everyone overall was very nice and welcoming. The bussers especially stood out -- they checked on us often, kept everything clean, and even greeted me in Spanish, which I appreciated. He had been to the restaurant a few times - and had good things to say. We were not disappointed. I had the Brown Stew Red Snapper - *chef's kiss*. Hubby had the iconic Jerk Oxtail over Macaroni & Cheese Pie! The English language cannot convey the beauty of that combination! Tender, tender oxtail, falling off the bone with the creamy, cheesy mac & cheese! He wanted to savor that dish another day, so he got a to-go bag and took it back to the hotel! (I couldn't help but clean my plate - I was obsessed with the fish!) Our friend enjoyed the Hennessy Fried Shrimp (not pictured) - one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant. It looked delicious as well. For drinks, I had the Bob Marley cocktail. A colorful drink - flavorful - and effective! There were people celebrating their birthdays throughout the night - and the wait staff goes IN! I was enjoying watching at least 10 people receive the Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" song while we were there. Imagine my surprise when it was my turn! My birthday was the day before, and we had already celebrated in Manhattan. Having two special recognition events made the evening that much more special! Shout out to the Simpson crew who came with the song, the rhythm, the sparkling cake, and the good vibes! My 70th birthday was exceptional - without a doubt. The Simpson added the touch I needed. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Brooklyn!
