The bad is the darn wait, this is probably the only establishment in Time Out Market that has a line. About 20 minutes in line and I really wanted the tres golpe with beef but they had no plantains, so I didn't get the real experience of the sandwich. Also ordered the Chopped beef, which is basically the brisket chopped up. I wish the bark sauce would have been more flavorful but it wasn't. Also ordered a side of their Mac and cheese but it was overly seasoned. Seating is limited as it seems always crowded but it was a nice view of the outside Dumbo area.
Located in Time Out Market, this spot offers some authentic Southern BBQ to DUMBO. When I went around 5:30pm, the line was honestly pretty insane and our wait was about 1.5 hours (I did not expect it to be this long when I got in line). You order at the counter and are given a tray to enjoy your food--classic food court style. We got their tres golpes with rice and mac n' cheese, and everything was so good. The pulled pork in the tres golpes was so juicy and the sides were so flavorful. Would I wait 1.5 hours for this again? No. But was it good? Yes.
I write this review with great happiness and sadness. Happiness for being able to experience this delicious spot in Dumbo and sadness because I was so happy to try my food that I forgot to take pics to remember the moment. This Texan found Texas level smoked meat in NYC and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste! These guys have it right. I tried a pound of brisket, marble cut so very moist, one pork rib, with a delicious pepper bark, and the Dominican rice and beans, and the cornbread. Everything was a 10/10. Because it's in the food hall it was counter service which was pretty fast and friendly. Be prepared for a line though. It's worth the wait!
Came here on a saturday evening around 6:45 PM. Although every other stall in time out market was relatively short, bark barbecue had a very long line. We decided to wait, and it took us 45 minutes to get our food. My favorite meat was the pork ribs. The brisket was tasty but a bit on the dry side, and the sausage didn't stand out to me. I wish that the meats all came with more sauce. Out of the side dishes, I liked the cornbread the most, although the rice and beans and the mac and cheese were also tasty. The food here was solid, but in my opinion, it was not worth the price or the wait. You could get a much nicer experience and tastier meal at a similar price elsewhere.

I'm a bit surprised at some of the lower ratings, but this place was delicious! We didn't get the slaw that's supposed to come with the sandwiches, but I don't eat it so I was fine with that. There was a decent line at 2pm on a Friday, but by the time we sat down and ate...the line had doubled, so it seems the earlier you go, the better. I liked that you can tell them what cut of the meat you want. I don't like the fatty parts so I was able to tell them and they cut the exact right piece for me. The Mac & cheese was surprisingly delicious and the cornbread was a bit different but good. Very sweet. Beautiful views of the bridges and great place to hang out
Not impressed overpriced dry BBQ ribs and overly seasoned with salt , the only thing I enjoyed was the chicharrón which is almost impossible to mess up and the Mac and cheese was good nothing out this world but the fried cheese had a little bit too much shruo whatever it was tha the put on top that maes it sweet , can't talk about any other items than what I purchased but there's many other BBQ places in NYC that get doe for real maybe this place lost it touched from when it opened but was not impressed , staff was nice but not much interaction to day negative or positive review pretty neutral
This is my second time here the first time food was good I purchased the brisket and the brisket & pork belly sandwich it was good came back again the smoke chicken was dry the rice was dry then they put the plantains and Mac and cheese in a paper container ( you would put a hot dog on) wrap a piece of foil over it the container was wet from the food almost dropped it the paper container is a no the first visit it was in a proper container the bill was $90 I got 1 bbq sauce in a thimble size container I purchased chicken brisket and a sandwich you give 1 sauce shame on you but as usual once people start coming they become less concerned about they food and how they serve it I will not purchase again I will go to the other one and hopefully they will do better
My friend and I rolled up while browsing time out market and the sound of Dominican bbq was irresistible to me. It was a good sign that there was a decent sized line too. Very casual place. If you've never been, it's in a cozy food hall type of place. Chill. Great views of the water and bridge just outside. When you first rock up there is a guy who slices of a piece of brisket for you to sample. That was a very nice touch but I've had better. The brisket flavor was there but it wasn't tender whatsoever. It was on the lean side for sure. I ordered the larger of the two beef ribs that were on display and it was monstrous, absolutely massive. I had a late breakfast so that was more than enough food for at two meals. My friend and I got our meals to-go. She ordered the maduros (cooked plantains), brisket, cornbread, and chicharrones (which were delicious). The longanisa was good albeit a bit spicy, definitely well seasoned. My friend LOVED the mofongo (both of our first time trying it). It isn't always on the menu apparently. I thought it tasted like Latin stuffing haha. Not my cup of tea but the flavors were there and it was very interesting haha. All together my Mofongo, beef rib, and longanisa totaled almost $75 before tip which is pretty hefty must say. It is a ton of food though and you're definitely paying a premium for the meatier items. My friend wasn't impressed by the cornbread and only had a bite or two. Same with the brisket. Too dry. We all enjoyed the chicharrones and longanisa and beef rib though. I'd recommend this place for some things but skip the cornbread and brisket. I'd like to go back to try the pork ribs and dine in instead of get takeout.
WHEN: Sat @11am It was our one day outing in Brooklyn so chose Bark BBQ to have lunch! I've never had Dominican Texas style BBQ before! It's located in the very lovely Time Out Market, a section amongst other food vendors that does not open until 11am. We got here just before they open, with 2 parties ahead of us. The only reason there was a delay was they needed to replace the warming light bulb. Otherwise I'm sure the line would have moved much more quickly. No biggy. Meats here are priced by the half pound which is a good amount for 2 people to try. So between my partner and I, we ordered: BRISKET - $19.50/0.5lb - 2 slices PORK RIBS - $16/0.5lb - 2 pieces Both meat selections were well seasoned, tender, and rich. SO GOOD!!!! Wow, I was so impressed by this! The 2 sauces to dip in is a must but even without them the meats were good! MAC & CHEESE - $6 (small) The sides come in 3 sizes and the small is plenty for 2 people to share as a side. It was really good, and I love how dramatic it looks with the cheese sauce overflowing, and the cup filled to the very top like a mountain. Cheesy, creamy, and everything you'd expect from quality Mac n cheese! TORTA DOMINICANA - $4 Cornbread and Honey Butter Definitely get this whether you want it with your meats or later as a dessert because it's really good and gooey. I enjoyed this hunk of moist corn cube. It was such a nice day out so we sat outside. With the place being a rooftop, we had a fantastic view of the bridge!
Bark Barbecue is located on the rooftop level of the Time Out Market. There are a couple of other restaurants on the same level. Once you order and get your food, there are a lot of seating available (kinda cafeteria style). There's also outdoor seating where you can get a beautiful view of Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline. I ordered the Beef Brisket (which you order by weight). I thought it tasted great and the BBQ sauce was delicious! Also ordered the Maduros, which were really good. On a busy Friday night, I was surprised to find almost no line to order. The food was very good, and the view outdoors was spectacular. Will definitely return.

I feel like Bark is more Dominican in concept than execution, but I'll give them points for trying to be a bit different. If you can deal with the long lines and chaotic ordering process, you'll be rewarded with some deliciously tender Brisket, super savory Longaniza, and incredibly rich Chicharron. We had to wait an extra 20 min for a new batch of Mac 'n' Cheese to be ready, but the big serving and ooey-gooey nature earned our forgiveness. Throw in the ample seating that's a specialty of non-Manhattan BBQ joints, and you've got a great spot for a casual dinner. Not sure I'd schlep out here just for Bark, but I'm not mad we tried it. read more

So asked my son what he wanted for his birthday and all he wanted was Bark. We got there and OMG. it was better than the last time. We had the brisket, Mac and cheese, rice, maduros, a chicharron/brisket sandwich and a chopped brisket sandwich. We ate that food with so much joy and content that it was almost heaven. The juiciness, the flavor, the quantity they give you - yes, yes, yes. The wait on line was so worth it. The train ride there was meh but was worth it. Go there fast and go there often. read more
Bark Barbecue in the Time Out Market in DUMBO is an absolute must try. They are located on the 5th level of the building, and while you will probably see a long line, do not let that deter you. Take it as a sign of how good the food is because the wait is absolutely worth it. Before I even get to the food, I want to highlight how friendly the staff was. Even the person who was not serving me made sure to greet me warmly, and both servers offered me samples of the brisket and sausage, which if anybody knows me, know I'm not turning that down. For my order, I got the pork ribs, rice and beans, and the torta Dominica (not pictured). Everything was amazing. I love bbq, and this place did not disappoint. I cannot say I fully understand what officially qualifies as Dominican Texas bbq, but whatever they are doing, it works. The flavors were on point and I was well pleased with my order and my overall experience. Honestly, I think it is time for Bark BBQ to consider opening their own brick and mortar location. If that day ever comes, I will gladly support it and recommend it to anybody who loves great bbq. Job very well done. read more
Super cool spot on the terrace/rooftop of Timeout Market in Brooklyn. Located in the upper food court, this is one of the spots you can't order online so you have to queue to order food. The line moves relatively quick and you can get bevies from the bar for sips while you wait. We got the longanisa, beef rib, and brisket. For sides we got the mac n cheese, pickled veggies and corn bread. The meats were by far the best I've had when compared to the other southern bbq spots in the city - extremely tender brisket, flavorful sausage with the perfect bite, and the beef rib was just plain impressive. I don't usually write negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with both the service and the food during this visit. When we first arrived, we weren't greeted and stood there for a while before anyone acknowledged us. After placing our order, we were told there would be about a 20-minute wait for the mac and cheese, which I had no problem with. They brought out the rest of our food while we waited. However, the person who took our order never gave us a receipt, which I didn't realize until it was time to pick up the mac and cheese. Unfortunately, that employee had already left, so when my friend tried to explain that we had ordered it, there was some pushback from the staff (which they wouldn't have known so it's no fault on them). We eventually received the mac and cheese, but it was disappointing. There was far too much cheese compared to the noodles, which made the texture very thick and heavy instead of creamy. Making it gummy like. Overall the food was mid except for the sandwich. While we were eating, the employee who originally took our order came back and told us we "didn't order that size," then walked away with an attitude. I didn't appreciate the tone or the approach, especially since we were never given a receipt and there seemed to be a lack of communication between staff. She also never asked me what size mac and cheese I wanted, I simply said I wanted mac and cheese. And all my friend did was do the same to the next set of staff members. This was my second visit. I wanted to give the place another chance because I had heard good things about the sandwich, which I did find delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't live up to expectations. Everyone's experience may be different, but sadly this one was disappointing and I don't think I'll be returning. I love the lay out of the rooftop. Got here around 6pm, the wait was a bit long but the line moves. The other half of our party had to hunt down somewhere to sit because it was crowded. The longaniza was probably one of my favorite bites. The ribs were tender and peppery. The chicharrones were crispy. They sell out quick of certain items. The mac and cheese was good, the maduros were crispy and sweet. The cornbread is dense and the honey butter on top is very sweet. I do still want to try the brisket and carnitas so I would definitely try it again. read more

Dominican Texas-Style BBQ? Say less! I'd heard all the hype about Bark and finally had to check it out. Located inside Time Out Market on the 5th floor in DUMBO, Brooklyn, it's worth the trip--plus they've got rooftop seating with killer views of the City and the Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges. At lunch, the line was long (about 20 minutes), but once you order, food comes out quick as they put your order together right in front of you. I went for the Tres Golpes sandwich--pulled pork, fried cheese, maduros (plantains), and bark sauce on a fluffy bun. So many layers of goodness! Honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Juicy, flavorful pork, crispy cheese, sweet plantains, and that sauce? Next level. Highly recommend grabbing an extra side of it. Paired nicely with a cold refreshing watermelon cucumber margarita from the bar! The menu is loaded--meats by the 1/2 lb, sandwiches, sides--and prices run about $25 per person for a meal, standard for the area. Solid service, great food, and those rooftop views seal the deal. If you're in NYC, definitely make the trip to Brooklyn for this spot. read more

I DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE TO ADDRESS THIS BUT I FEEL I HAVE TO. For those who came here to complain about price, stop crying. I bet you have a $10 coffee addiction, don't ride the train and would never go say these things to the owner's face. You knew the prices because they're clearly listed before you order(see picture). So bring tissues next time. I don't know what food some others had because nothing was lacking seasoning or flavor, and nothing was dry as the food is literally removed from the ovens and cut up in front of you, when you order it. My party of 9 enjoyed practically everything on the menu. The brisket was cut hot and was juicy. The pulled pork was excellent, the rib tips very tasty, the chicharron was my personal favorite. I've been eating chicharron all my life and this is by far the BEST!!!!!!! Juicy, tender, crispy, not all fat or dry like other places, it's a must-have!!!!! Someone else claimed the mac n cheese was flavorless and that's when I knew they were lying. It was cheesy and seasoned well. The cole slaw and cornbread were delicious and great side options. Definitely get a Country Club soda to round out the Dominican experience. SALUD!!!!! Staff is welcoming, accommodating and friendly, give them a try. I can't wait to go back!!!!! read more

Ok, I finally gave in and made the trek amongst tourists to give this place a try. We got there about 12pm on a Sunday so luckily didn't wait more than 5-10 minutes before ordering. We tried the brisket, beef ribs, longaniza, Mac & Cheese and the bread. The staff was super sweet and gave us some free samples :). Longaniza was def the best thing I had, the beef ribs were also great. Brisket was as good as brisket usually is (but nothing stand out). The bread was great but HUGE, we could have shared one piece for two people. Mac & cheese was also solid. I wouldn't say it's the best BBQ in NYC but it is very good. I would be willing to trek it again to try the sandwiches, we didn't get to try and those looked absolutely BOMB. FYI, it's on the top floor of Time Out Market and there's a bar upstairs so you can sip while you wait. read more

Tucked away on the 5th floor of TimeOut Market, Bark Barbecue has a wide selection of meats and sides. It is on the expensive side where $16 can get you 2 pork ribs. Their pork ribs are decent and somewhat tender, but didn't blow me away. I was given the end cut of the brisket which was very lean and not juicy or fatty at all. While it had the smoke ring, it didn't pass the fold test. The plantains were soft, gooey, sweet, and nicely caramelized, but just very very greasy with a pool of oil at the bottom of the container. Lastly comes the Mac and cheese-- the star of the show--which was extremely cheesy and well seasoned. Overall, not bad. The staff were nice, and there is plenty of seating in the market. But for the price and the quality, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, unfortunately. read more
AMAZING Had a great time. So worth the wait. I've been trying for months to make it to this Dominican barbecue and I finally made it on a Sunday. Fairly busy but so worth the weight. The food was amazing. The staff was nice. The cutter gave you a quick sample of what you were ordering, which was amazing. The atmosphere was nice people, drinks and live music. Made it all worthwhile. definitely had a great time here. If you ever can make it advice is to make it there super early because they do run out of the good stuff. The line was super long about 30 minute wait but again it was super worth it. Please try this place out if I can give it 10 out of 10 stars I would. read more
Service was a bit of wait, but I understand why. mac & cheese - just right! Seasoned well, smoky, cheesy, and no bread crumbs (thankfully) longaniza sausage - in the future, if I'm eating sausage, it has to be this one. Soooo good. Spicy, but doesn't overtake the sausage. sofrito chicken - the chicken was smoked well, but not dry. The green sauce wasn't needed, but added to the taste. My favorite part of this meal besides the sausage. beef rib - got this because a lot of the other items were sold out, but it was my least favorite because it consisted of more fat than meat. Slipped off the bone easily though. All the food came out warm, which I'm not used to from my experiences at some other spots in the time out market so that was another point for bark barbecue. This is my first time at the time out market. I traveled from the Bronx to Brooklyn just to eat at bark bbq. My husband was so excited to try this for his bday today and it def didn't disappoint ! It's located in the 5th floor. We took the elevator up and waited in a fairly long line but it moved fairly quickly. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, smoked carnitas, beef ribs, longsniza, Mac & cheese, queso frito & torta. It totaled $159 and was def worth it. Ate some there and took the rest home. Everyone kept stopping us as we sat to eat to ask where we ordered from. The whole tray looked and tasted great. My husbands favorites were the beef rib & the brisket. Bark BBQ offers a unique blend of Texas BBQ and Dominican flavor. The food was delicious plus the rooftop view was unbeatable on the third floor of Timeout Market in DUMBO. My family and I visited Bark BBQ before heading to a Brooklyn Nets game. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, but the lines were always too long. This time, the wait wasn't bad, so we finally gave it a shot. We ordered the ribs, chicharrón, and brisket, along with maduros, mac and cheese, and congri rice (moro). The food was good overall, but I didn't quite taste the hype. I was expecting more distinctive Dominican flavors in the meat, but honestly, they weren't really there. Don't get me wrong--the food was solid--but it felt like something I could get at any decent BBQ joint in Atlanta or Texas (except for the maduros and rice, which gave it a nice twist). I wouldn't wait in a long line for it again, but I'd definitely go back if there was no line. read more

Not overhyped at allll Let me preface by saying, im a born and bred new yorker with a jamaican background thats never been to texas. I dont have a bbq history and know the differences between mesquite and hickory smoked meats, however, i am a foodie and ive been greatly disappointed with all the bbq ive tried in NYC. Especially the ones with great reviews so i thought maybe i just dont have a bbq palate and gave up. When I saw all the constant viral videos of this place, i rolled my eyes instantly. Another "must have" mediocre, tasteless, overpriced meat spot in dumbo of all places, ill pass. A friend begged me to go and it's rude to say no to free food so i showed up We got there at about 6p on a rainy Saturday evening and the Brazilian music was BLASTING, such a fun but loud atmosphere, don't expect to have a deep conversation here. We were able to grab two seats at community style tables furtherest away from the live band, but the QR ordering system doesn't work so we went on line and let me tell you why im happy it didn't. You go up to the counter and there's a sweetheart chopping, weighing, pouring meat gravy back onto your cut of meat AND giving you a small sample of whats to come. The line moved pretty quickly and we were able to snag another two chairs but got the food packed to go, just in case Now the food. Oh my god, the food. My first bite was the mac and cheese, its so easy to ruin mac and cheese but not this one. Soooo cheesy and when they describe it as seasoned? They meant it. I prepared my own carnita on a tostone since we did a to go tray, topped with the green heaven sauce and just wowwwww. I could bathe in that sauce and the carnitas was delicious. I grabbed a fatty thick piece of brisket, to diieee for. Dipped in one of their two bbq sauces?? Wheww. I only took a bite of the rice, also really good, but i needed to save space for the tres golpes. What a mix, tender meat, salty fried cheese, sweet maduro, highlighted by the green sauce that i am willing to inhale at this point, all wrapped up in a soft potato bun, HEAVEN. By now, im stuffed to capacity but i wanted to try a bite of the pork rib, tender enough to rip off with a fork and after the first bite i had to force another down. What a rib!!! Im already planning on another trip there. Amazing food, i almost don't have enough words to describe how phenomenal every bite was. This is the most popular place in all of Time Out Market, and you can tell by the insane length of the line. Be ready and willing to wait, but honestly, the barbecue is worth it. I came here with my mom and sister around dinner time, and the food hall is packed and noisy as always. (Not my favorite environment to eat in, but good for multiple cuisine options and bringing visitors.) The line surpassed two other storefronts and made it to the bathroom. We were in line for a long time, and they were sold out of brisket, rib tips, and cornbread. (Will have to come back for the brisket another time.) The employees are extremely efficient and helpful. They typically don't cut the meat off the beef rib, but my mom asked, and the guy was immediately like, "I got you." You order the meats from the middle section, and then on either side, there is a cashier and you can order the sides and drinks from them. Don't forget to grab a couple bbq sauces in the center counter, and the to-go containers and bags on a little table to the right of the storefront. We got a half pound of pulled pork, a beef rib, and three medium sides: mac and cheese, pickled vegetables, and maduros. Everything was hot and absolutely delicious. Well I have been twice and can't wait to go back. I love the selections of meat but knowing how this is hidden in the Time Out building and that has more inside places to eat you can't just go one time. Now they are coming to Manhattan....wow. I love the way they give you a sample of the brisket at Bark that is great service it is flavorful and tasty. Located inside the timeout market on the 5th floor, Bark Barbecue was a great experience. If your unfamiliar with the Timeout Market its basically a large food court with various spots to eat and get drinks. While at Bark BBQ I tried the Brisket, Pork ribs, Chicharron, Smoked carnitas, small mac and cheese, rice and beans, and sweet plantains. All the meat was extremely juicy, the brisket had a nice amount of fat to it, and the Chicharron was the best thing I ate, I would definitely come back just to eat the Chicharron alone it was so crispy but juicy at the same time. The rice and beans and sweet plantains were great but i wasn't feeling the mac and cheese to much I felt it was missing the flavor to me. Overall, a great exprience and definitely recommend it! read more
