This place was cute. Small, good food and lots of it! My husband had this chicken and vegetable plate with tons of yellow rice and beans. I had shrimp and rice, which was delicately spiced and sauced. We had gone around lunchtime. Pro tip: their breakfast specials seem to be all day, but they stop serving at a specific time. I was sad because I LOVE mangu! They did say they still had it but only as a side, not breakfast (and what's the fun of that). Also only milk for coffee so no half n half or non dairy creamer. Disappointing to say the least. I'm actually upset at wasting money on this barely edible food. Looking at these dishes is making me angry. Quality has plummeted since I first went nearly 10 years ago. The baked chicken and pernil dishes were insanely overcooked and dry. And they didn't give any sauces to help. Cuban sandwich would have been fine if the pernil wasn't dry and the bread wasn't stale. The only good thing from this place is the acapurria, which is moist and well seasoned. It was great. I was here with a large group to celebrate the end of a successful semester at school. I felt kind of bad because we took up a large chunk of the restaurant and we were pretty loud. I ordered a Diet Coke and squid rice. I didn't know what to expect, but it was really good. There were pieces of squid in the dish, and it was made with squid ink. Drove from the other side of town today and am so glad I did!! Placed an order consisting of 6 large dishes and large soup. Waited about 20 minutes for the food and left rather famished dying to go home. The food was surprisingly good. Everything was well cooked. Everything was tasty. All was well packaged -nothing spilled. Food was warm and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We enjoyed sweet plantains, chicharron de pollo, pernil, yellow rice, red and black beans, grilled pork chops, carne guisada (beef stew), sancocho-all was quite delightful. The beef stew Was a bit tasteless but very well cooked but instead of saucy it was watery. I can only assume they added water bc the sauce is usually more rich and flavorful. Hands down this must be the best pernil I ever had. I was amazed by the flavor of the pernil where every bite left me wanting for more. The white rice was soaked in some type of butter or fat that made it delicious. And then the Mofongo was great. Whatever seasoning that was for the Mofongo or pernil, i saved it to soak up the juices. It just brings another flavor into it. Every bite of Mofongo had chicharron in there . It has been a long while since I visited Cibao. As my first review mentioned, I had only been for breakfasts and they were always satisfying/delicious. And inexpensive. Since they're located in my neighborhood, I noticed that they took careful measures during the pandemic as far as dining out over the summer. It is far too cold to dine outdoors these days so a recent visit to Cibao was for a takeaway dinner. To be fair, the meal merits about 3 to 3.5 stars and I'll get into the details shortly, but there are other positives about Cibao which is why I'm keeping the 4 star rating. The menu for dinner is quite diverse and prices are very reasonable. Since I don't eat pork/red meat, I only viewed seafood and chicken specialties. I saw salmon and codfish entrees as well as other chicken dishes. On this occasion, a first time dinner for me, it was the half rotisserie chicken with one side. The positives: Huge portion. The chicken and the one side were in separate containers. Price point--only $11.00 The space indoors is kept very clean The negatives: Although the chicken was quite good, it was not rotisserie style. In fact, one entree was not sealed tightly enough and loads of oil escaped into the bottom of the bag. A lot of oil. Salty--the chicken was very salty. My side was rice and gandules which was good, but overall the food was salty. The meal was tasty, but I always feel uneasy eating a meal that isn't too healthy. I would try them again for dinner, but I'm not sure about the chicken entree since it was already prepared which means it could be very oily or salty again. Still, other entrees looked pretty good. The steak I ordered was for medium, it ended up being well done, as the thickness of the steak was probably a cm. I also don't know if they have an excess of salt on their hands, but they were not cheap on that, making it overly salted. The eggs however had no flavor. The steamed vegetables consisted mostly of red and green peppers. Perhaps in my mind, vegetables should consist of more than just peppers as the base. Bit still heavy on the salt. The pork belly lunch was alright. Skin was crisp and the meat was tender and easily broke apart. The rice not too bad, feels like it was salt infused or it could be my imagination from the steak. Another covid-era delivery review... I go to Cibao for the pernil. I'm not ashamed to admit it either. Sure, I've had their other stuff. I'm partial to their chicken at times. I love this place. El Nuevo Cibao provides huge delicious portions of food. The menu has a lot to choose from but so far, everything I've tried is delicious. I dine in and do takeout in Cibao. I love the free HOT bread when you dine it. It's smothered with butter. When I order any beef plate, the meat is always seasoned perfectly. The portions are huge... like I'm not joking. The meat is stacked high, and sides are so filling. My favorite side has to be the rice with pigeon peas! The rice is not mushy, or over/under cooked. It has flavor and not too salty. The pigeon peas are tender and pairs perfectly with my steak. If you can wake up early enough for breakfast, you must try their mangu. I usually order Tres golpes. It's mashed plantains with salami, eggs, and Spanish sausage. It's so satisfying when the egg yolks breaks and runs into the mangu. It makes it extra rich and creamy. Cibao also has passion fruit drink. It's sweet but refreshing. I love it when places provide fruit drinks. read more

We were craving empanadas so we decided to pick up two chicken and two steak empanadas with some rice and gandules as a side. They took abnormally too long to give us only these items. When they finally did, they told us here is the cheese and steak empanadas. I then said no, that's not what I ordered. And then she assured me that she actually meant chicken and steak. I tripled checked with her that the order was right and she said yes. My order was wrong. Have had this place a few times now since they popped up on Delivery dot com. It has risen to the rank of our top Latin spot for lunch delivery as the previous place we ordered from seems to have totally fallen off the rails in terms of food quality. I have been pretty happy with everything I have had so far. The baked ribs, chicken stew and Cuban sandwich. All of the lunch deals come with rice and beans (excellent beans btw) and the amount of food is quite impressive for the small 7.00 price tag. The Cuban sandwich is whopping. Theres enough pork in there to make a second sandwich and the pork itself is lean and moist with lots of garlicky flavor. Not dry as in some places. The ribs were also quite tender and had tons of flavor and the chicken stew on the bone was great. The delivery is fast considering they arent exactly around the block from us. This place is dirt cheap. Seriously...party of 7 w/ drinks bill came to $107- You cannot find a place this inexpensive and actually have a delicious meal in NY. Our table ordered a little bit of everything and let me tell you the portions are mountainous (I actually had to look up a synonym for huge because huge just isn't enough). Between all of us we ordered: arroz con pollo, roast pork, tripe soup, steak with peppers and onions, grilled chicken and chicken stew. Everything was delicious. Not one complaint. All the dishes came with large scoop of rice and small side of beans as well. It was literally enough food to serve 3 people per dish. -1 star for service. They had 1 waitress for the entire restaurant which was about 6 tables and then 1 person taking phone orders in the back. Seriously could use some extra help here. We ended up getting up to ask for take out boxes and to get the check. Don't expect a ton of service but the food was worth it!
