After seeing this many times from my co workers, i finally got to Rice and Beans. My co worker got it for me as takeout (so I can't rate the inside/service), so this is just strictly based on the food. The container was packed and very neatly packaged. The chicken is just as flavorful as it looks, however the rice and the beans didn't match. It lacked the authenticity that I was looking for, but the chicken carried the meal! I will be getting chicken from here again yes, if it's sold alone. read more

I'm genuinely pissed off I just paid 14 dollars for a tray of mostly rice, literally 2 plantains, and some beans. I swear a small platter didn't cost me that last week unless pepper steak is more than beef stew. I did say beef stew which they didn't have right now. Im mad that I said beef stew ahead and she didn't say anything until after my tray was full. I decided to take her suggestion for peppersteak... I still high key want my 14 dollars back though because 14? The pepper steak is very tough and not at all like beef stew in anyway, simple not for me personally.. I am very upset. Anyway, the portions sizes are pretty good aside. The location is conveniently close to the train station and work lunch. I'd give 5/10 on taste overall. Maybe they are just not for me. Edit. hi, my fellow foodies. I'm New York visiting, and I wanted some Spanish food so we found this restaurant on Yelp. Called Rice and Beans restaurant. The food is delicious its old-school food. Nothing spectacular. It's down to earth good eats. There's a scene in ratatouille the movie where the food credit visit the restaurant, and the chef makes a dish that was made specially for him. The dish was ratatouille, and he said it reminds him of his mothers cooking when he was a little boy. This is what this fool remind me of, great cooking. Nothing spectacular. This place is terrible, period. What actually attracted me to this place was the name. I mean honestly, who doesn't love rice & beans? I decided to order the chicken with rice & beans and the empanadas. The empanadas were barely filled. The chicken and the rice & beans were BLAND. Im gonna start by saying what is great about the place - close to a train station, comfortable seating, nice staff, and some decent food. But perhaps because it is close to a train station you get the flies. Especially in this summer they love the smells this place is cooking up. I cannot stand those flies though. Ya gotta get them gone as best as possible. Luckily they do not end up in the food. They just linger in the doorway making my only entrance to get here not possible, unless you wanna chomp one between your teeth on the way in. But the ladies behind this stand know their food. Good and cheap, which is something I always look for when in the mood for some Spanish food. Yomaris restaurant is very rare in Park slope, the last of just 2 or 3 Caribbean Spanish restaurants left in the neighborhood. Lunch specials are available daily, you have many options to choose from, from Pernil (roast pork) to baked chicken, ribs, oxtail, even stewed fish. Plenty to choose from, all paired with rice and beans and sweet plantains, a complete lunch all for under $8. A complete meal that will leave you sleepy after. They are open for breakfast and dinner as well, I recommend stoping in early in the morning for a typical Dominican breakfast called "Mangu", smashed green plantains with fried eggs, Dominican fried salami, pickled onions and fried cheese. Really good, but again, it will leave you sleepy after lol. Good, cheap and plenty. read more

I grew up in the South Bronx during the seventies, when the South Bronx was REALLY the South Bronx. This place brings me back to that time when Salsa Vieja rocked the joint, not the hizzee. The Pernil is so delicious that I sometimes have to cross the street to keep from going in there every day. Likewise for the Pollo Guisada. The sides (rice, beans, plátano dulce, etc.) are both fly AND fresh, franchise. Never get the chicharrón. For two reasons, please don't. For one thing, less for me. For another, it is another addiction. Fried pork skin with meat and bone attached. Get this with rice and beans. Less than seven bucks and enough for two meals. They also have a reasonably priced breakfast. I get the egg and cheese on a roll with a coffee - $3.50. Get there early, they close at around eight and run out of food. read more

We ordered our pretty simple orders: some tacos and an order of mofongo, and we were told 20 minutes. We waited close to an hour. It's a good thing the food was great! It was one of the better batches of mofongo with chicharron that I've had, loaded with great red beef gravy and avocados. After years of living in Washington Heights and Inwood, I'd like to think I know good mofongo, haha, and this was definitely up there! I even had enough left over for lunch next day! Really really good Spanish food. It's a small hole int he wall place, they have a sit down area but I always get food to go here. Super cheap and super delicious! The chicken empanada is awesome. Lots of flavor on the pulled chicken, the bread to meat ratio was great. I always check for sweet fried plantains here. They don't always have it but when they do they are yummy. Super ripe and sweet! I often get their rice and beans and it is delicious. Been trying to catch their bacalao (stewed fish) but they always run out when I get there. It looks really good. The food is on point, I always order what they have out on hot plates because the service will be quicker. All they need to do is serve it. I had Ox tail, empanadas, chicken, tendon soup, tripe soup, spaghetti and they all are good. The price for an average meal is about $7. This is a cheap, no frills, Latin take-out restaurant. (However, there is some seating.) The food reminds me of home style Dominican food and is very tasty. You can get a platter with rice for around $5. Their beef empandas are really good and decent sized. It's the flour kind (i.e. not made of corn).
