I used to frequent a restaurant called "my Cuban spot" and since their closing - I have yet to find another Cuban restaurant that makes equally good cubano sandwiches. I'm not sure if this is a sister restaurant but it was spot on! Incredibly delicious and fresh. Service was prompt and they were very nice. The ambiance is really relaxed and casual with seating that is open facing towards the sidewalk. Don't miss out on the yucca fries. A cute shop serving an excellent Cuban sandwich with crispy toasted bread and a good balance of key ingredients: pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. It came with plantain chips, which are hit or miss for me, but these perfectly thin and crunchy bites paired well with the garlic mojo. The guava and cheese empanada is also tasty albeit small. I've ordered Cuban Shack for takeout a few times, and the delivery is always prompt and the food is consistently flavorful. But this review is really to give the team a shoutout after finally getting to experience the restaurant in person. I was on a random walk when I stumbled upon the spot and thought, "Wait, that's Cuban Shack!" So naturally, I went in for lunch and ordered my usual steak plate. While I was ordering, I noticed they served drinks, and the guy at the counter asked if I wanted to try the frozen mojito. I was hesitant at first, but after one taste I was like, okay -- this is actually a VERY good frozen mojito. Sold! The whole place has such a welcoming energy. It's casual and quaint, with outdoor seating during the summer, good music playing, and just an easygoing neighborhood vibe. Everyone working there was friendly and made the experience that much better. I finished my meal with a cortado, and I have to give them credit for that too. So many coffee shops serve cortados now without really knowing how to make one the traditional way, but this one was lovely and exactly what I wanted. read more

I loved the feeling of eating halfway in but also feeling connected to the people watching outside. Next time I'm going to try the cuban sandwich because the cheese pull looked amazing on my friends. Drove all the way from Long Island to try Cuban shack. This was nice little hole in the wall spot with Cuban influences. My husband ordered a Cuban sandwich, I order a chicken plate for the kids and a vegetarian sandwich for myself which was made with bbq jackfruit. Overall, each plate had a nice presentation, balanced flavors and generous portions. In total we spent about $70. Each dish was about $16-20. The service was great and the staff were super friendly. Stumbled upon this place and so glad I did. Very unassuming from the outside, but the food was really good. If you're looking for a quick and easy bite this is a great option. Ambiance is super casual - maybe more of a take out spot, but there's decent seating. Came with 6 people (including 2 little ones) and it was great. Food: make sure to order the Garlic Moji and Cilantro Aioli on the side. They really make the dishes! My husband first heard about Cuban Shack while he was at his barbershop. The other day we happened to be walking down Hoyt Street and passed right by it, so he suggested we stop in for lunch. The restaurant had a cozy, relaxed vibe. There are only a handful of tables, but we were still able to find a spot easily (we went around 2pm). We ordered Cuban sandwiches and guava pastelitos. I hadn't had a Cuban sandwich in years, and these absolutely did not disappoint. The sandwiches had the perfect balance of bread, meat, cheese, and sauce. They were rich and flavorful without being greasy or dry. They also came with plantain chips and a garlic sauce on the side, which was a nice touch. I also really enjoyed the guava pastry. I came here to get coffee and a pastry with some friends while I was visiting town. The service was solid, if a little slow. That said, we did have a big order. It has room for dining in, and has a cafe feel. This was my first time trying Cuban coffee. It was good! A little sweet for me, but it tasted less sweet after the Guava pastry (lol). The pastry was rich and filled with Guava. It's almost like a jam (and about as sweet). I would definitely come back to try the other dishes!! The pork is marinated and roasted for 72 hours - yes you read that right. They offer various sandwiches, but you have to go with the Cuban. I just ate one of the best cubanos I've ever had. Don't worry. This isn't some kind of bait and switch scenario. It was here, at Cuban Shack. This spot opened up two weeks ago today, and when a Cuban Shack opens up down the street from me, I consider it my moral and civic duty to check it out for you, the people. First off, the vibes are good. Jesús Alemany on the trumpet coming out of the speakers, bright colors everywhere (even the bathroom is adorable and smells great). That said, I'll be honest with you. I was preparing myself for disappointment. There are a lot of lackluster cubanos out there in the world, and coming in at $16, this is also not the most affordable one out there. But it's an expensive neighborhood, good food costs money, and I'll be damned if I'm not going to check it out (although I'm kind of slacking waiting two whole weeks). Good thing I did, because... GODDAMN. This sandwich is basically perfect. Visually it's stunning, with the outside of the Cuban bread lacquered up to a shine by the press. There's delicious bits of fricco crust all around the outside where the cheese got burned, and I knew it was going to be incredible when I first opened the box. The guys behind the counter are super nice, and when I asked if I should roll with a pork plate or a cubano on my first visit, I loved the confidence with which he directed me to the sandwich. After biting into it, I can report that confidence was clearly deserved, because he knew this sandwich was everything it should be. A Cuban sandwich is pretty simple on its face, but so many people mess it up. I don't know where these dudes came from (Cuba, probably), but they nail it so hard. The balance is exactly right; perfect ratios of bread to pickles to mustard to cheese to pork...and the PORK here. 15 hour slow cooked to ridiculous, juicy flavor. I could and will eat it all on its own, or on a plate with rice and beans and maduros. Maybe tomorrow. I'm going to be thinking about this sandwich til I come back and get another. It's a tight menu, and I'm willing to bet it's all good after seeing the care and quality put into the signature item. So glad you moved into the neighborhood, guys. See you soon. read more
