Saved once again by a 24/7 restaurant. These stuffed potato balls are great--hard to beat fried potato. And they are larger than you think. The blood sausage has a savory, rich flavor palette. I also ordered the fried cassava bites, but my serving was chewy and over-fried. If they were taken out of the fryer a minute sooner, they would be perfect. Very hospitable workers though. read more

Came in here because my husband wanted a tamarindo juice. All the seats were taken one lady helping she practically ignored us for a good 5 minutes until my husband walked towards the juices she was over there. He asked for his juice got a large that's about 24 oz I think. The price not bad $4.50. I mean to have to practically beg for service doesn't sound like a place i'm running to go again. He also said it was blah! No pulp read more

We ordered food to go. The highlight was the passion fruit drink. The potatoe ball was my favorite, not saying much. It was a fried mashed potatoe ball with some ground beef inside, pretty bland. My next favorite was the blood sausage, it was a little dry and very mildly seasoned. I didn't like the pastillito at all. It had pulled chicken inside that was extremely dry and bland. The cuchiftito also was bland. The peril was dry and lacked flavor. In fact the rice and beans also lacked flavor! read more

The passion behind this restaurant shines through clearly. Their dishes show exceptional flavor profiles. I was happily surprised by this restaurant. The team members are nice as well. I want to come back without much delay. read more

I ordered delivery and was disappointed. The seafood soup wasn't good, and instead of the cheese bread I wanted, they sent a large bread with cheese in the middle, which I didn't like. Unfortunately, everything I ordered was a miss. read more

Pasteles were a disgrace! The rice and beans no no flavor. Acapurria fair. Papa rellenas fair. Overall terrible food.

My reluctance to believe the hype vanished after experiencing the food. This spot provides reliable dining. The cooking quality is noteworthy. Cooperative, humble, and authentic. I'll return to this restaurant regularly. read more

I ordered pickup thru GH. Ordered at 9:20 was told my food wouldn't be ready until 10. Red flag but ok. I ordered Chicharon de Cerdo, 1 Alcapurria, 2 Pastelillos De Pollo and 1Bacalaito. I received Chicharon de Cerdo that wasn't crunchy at all, 2 chewy Alcapurria, 4 Pastelilos (idk if they were pollo or not. didn't taste like it) no Bacalaito.I'd eat a wrong order if the food was good but this food was TERRIBLE. all of it. idk if it was because it was a GH order or that's how it is all the time but it was bad. I came from Queens to get this food and I feel like I was robbed. I hope the food is better when u order in person but I'll never find out. Do better. Please read more

La Isla - Smh like what is this ???? What if I wouldn't ate that ? Damn luckily I seen it so sad - Latin American Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Review from a Puerto Rican de Aguada. The good: the oxtail was awesome. Really tasty. The bad: The fritters were not Puerto Rican. They were some sort of combination of Puerto Rican and south American and failed at both. We could not eat one alcapuria or one relleno. They also were greassy. Tastes nothing like the ones from Puerto Rico. The tostones were not crunchy but soft and squishy. And the rice and beans lacked the flavors of Puerto Rico. I honesty I had better Puerto Rican food at other restaurants. Hope they get back to our roots and actually cook with Puerto Rican flavors. read more

The best pastelillo I've EVER HAD IN NYC. Tastey, meaty and hot. Crust just right not under cooked or overcooked. The best I had before this is in PR. But for Brooklyn NY this is on another level.. LOVED IT!!!! read more

incredible food, great prices, beautiful restaurant, super sweet staff. I got the oxtail stew special, the sweet fried plantains (maduros), the 1/2 pernil with rice and beans, and the passion fruit juice. all of it was FANTASTIC. I will be eating here many more times! read more

The food didn't taste that good and my whole bill was 19.20 but the guy took a dollar tip for his self without my permission. Well, this place is a small hole in the wall. We went 4/19/2024 at night. We ordered multiple dishes from Sancocho to white rice with and beans with pernil, alcaparras, and white rice and chicken. The food was great. Great puerto rican food. The service was a bit slow, not too many workers, for how much this place gets packed line was out the door and not too many seats available to sit in and dine. But, it doesn't take away from the great food they cook. We will definitely be back. read more

Came late on a Thursday night at 9 and there was a line out the door. It moved pretty fast. We had freshly fried porkchop with white rice and beans. The rice was so good on it's own I could have made a meal of just the rice--if you know, you know. The porkchop were perfect. We had relleno de papa and relleno de maduro--also excellent. Tasty, perfectly seasoned and fresh. I'm guessing the amount of traffic keeps the food from sitting around getting stale. Not a fan of the pastelillos--just didn't have the flavor I'm accustomed to. All being said, this is a 24 hour spot that I will be picking up food from on a regular basis. I live a bit far from it but it's worth the drive! Hard to believe the prices are so low. The portions are big. read more

Called this place to find out what their alcapurias and rellenos de amarillos are stuffed with since the menu online doesn't say and I was really craving some PR food and after the phone rang for a while the guy finally picked up. He then proceeded to yell something incomprehensible after I'd asked two questions and hung up on me. wtf? read more

Well, they changed the pastellillos or empanadas now they are like half the size that they were used to be .. completely different inflation, everything is smaller and more expensive lol read more

It's incredibly hard to go in here with just $10 cash. Not Bc u are unable to afford anything, quite the opposite since everything is $1.25-$9. The trouble is trying to maximize every dollar bc you basically want everything. In the end I opted for 1/2 lb of pernil (more skin please) and 2 logs of morcilla. $8.85 I believe. read more

If you're looking for a quick fix to quench your thirst for some classic latin Caribbean food, this might be your spot! La isla has been around for many moons. It also has seen many staff members throughout the years but somehow seems to keep its originality in taste and appearance with the exception of changes to the recipes. I've visited them since I was a kid and still can find some gems when I walk in. Ordered out last night and had the pepper steak combo with white rice & beans alongside some avocado spears. My friend had the chicken soup with a side of the morcilla. The pepper steak was really tasty although I would've preferred a different cut of the protein but overall was pretty damn good for the price. Portions are always abundant at La isla, that's really what they've been known for. The chicken soup had a vibrant appearance and taste but a little too thick. The morcilla recipe was definitely altered and being wrapped in a plastic bag on delivery was definitely not a good idea. Soggy, wet and a bit too salty. I still recommend this spot over any other Latin American restaurant in the area since the flavors, portions and prices are very reasonable and realistic, just be mindful on what to order and use your judgement as far as whether to order out or eat in. My recommendation would be to eat in since fried food and treats do not do well in delivery conditions. Overall La isla is a classic must have if you're in bushwick or Williamsburg on Graham ave. Happy travels! read more

The food is good home cooking! It's a warm home feeling. I chose to dine in and had the experience to vibe with the customers.

Great spot to grab a late night meal or snack but beware of your surroundings because the place attracts all the late night party goers that are already full of alcohol. Let's get to the good stuff: Place: 24/7!! located on the corner of the street, Parking is horrendous due to that BUT there is a bus stop out front so someone can easily just wait there for a quick minute and go around the block if a bus comes by. You can either dine in or take out (I recommend take out because of the sketchy people walking in). Make sure to bear right and order by the "take out" sign. You'll probably see a like form along the wall on the right. Food: delicious & super affordable. Chicharron de pollo (fried chicken chunks) - well seasoned and good on its own! You'll get a tray of literally, small fried chicken chunks that taste great. Yuca y cebellos (yuca with onions) - a staple in these type of spots. The yuca and the onions were cooked perfectly. Love that the yuca wasn't hard and that it was a soft chewy consistency. Everything came out to less than $10. Get passed the drunkards that roam the street and at times enter and you'll stomach will thank you for it! read more

IMPORTANT to know: cash only! Tasty Puerto Rican and Dominican food. The mofongo with pork was dense and delicious when broken down and mixed into the sauce. The fried, stuffedpotato and plantain items were tasty. The service is friendly and efficient and the place has a very local, neighborhood vibe. read more

I came back to this place because the chicharrón was really good the last time. However, I'm not sure if the original cook left, but what a disappointment. The chicharrón was dry and bland. Great Puerto Rican hole on the wall join. No greeting and just trying to find my way to order. No menu. Walked in and saw the side for take out. I took on line and waited. Guy over the counter says next. I expected him to be rude and grumpy but he was very nice and helpful. I asked alot of questions. He explained everything to what he has. I was only there for their snacks and a juice as we just had dinner. I bought Empanadas, alcapurrias, pasteles to go. Everything fresh. Great juices. Got the passion fruit juice Awesome. Too far out the way, but I recommend for people who love Spanish food to try if you are around. Good Service as the guy was very attentive when he was serving me. He even lead me to the restroom. read more

Dear Yelpers! This spot is actually pretty good! There will be a wait for food no matter what time you get here. K and I went at about 11pm and there were about 7 people ahead of us and they ran out of chicharron :'( However! We got the pernil, tostones, white rice and beans small and it was plenty! Their tostones were perfect. Def do recommend, just need to come back earlier to try some of their other foods! read more

Stopped in for lunch and although it's a small place with limited counter seating the smell of freshly cooked good permeates the place ... ordered the roast pork with yellow rice and beans with a side order of sweet plantains... the portions were generous and delicious ... not overly salty which is usually the norm at other places ... give it a try the prices are also easy on the wallet read more

I come back every couple of weeks because I can't get enough of La Isla. My Go-Tos are the Rabo, Carne Guisado, Pollo, Chicharron and obviously the Rice n Beans. Everything is so good! The only thing I would not recommend is the Oreja but I think that is because my personal preference is the Asian way of prepping it where it's served cold and cooked in soy sauce. Otherwise, you can't go wrong! read more

Cuchifrito platter with a side of yucca. That's it. That's all there is to say. That's the review.

Tasty Spanish food for a great price. Pork chops, chicken and the fried ball things all are good

#I was surprised that I somehow ordered everything in Spanish (even though I don't speak it). I guess it's from ordering Latino/Spanish/Mexican/Ecuadorian/Dominican/Puerto Rican food over the years. The #language now sticks. I was proud of myself. However, they didn't have any of the dishes I tried to order. I #ended up with the Sancocho (stew with a bunch of meats and veg) and Lengua (tongue). Both really good. read more
