The cons... they charge for sauce, you get none if you don't order it... $.30 each. I got the avocado and hot sauce, decent but nothing fancy. They have plastic cutlery, no knife, just forks. They have rice and bean dishes with your choice of protein, but if you're traveling, and you like your beans separate, they will not pack it separately. So I didn't order it. I decided to get a beverage not a fan of Nutella and definitely lactose so it's hard to get a coffee with any dairy alternative... they have coconut milk yay!!!... there is the new latte Nutella mocha latte. I had it with coconut milk I assure you it taste like almond joy in a cup.... So delicious... I just don't think for the size of the cup it should be $7+tax. Never dined in, this is a review of the food itself. I have eaten from EC about 4 times. If I've been back that many times, I can tell you there will be a 5th, 6th, and 7th time. I've had the cheese, steak, and chicken empanadas those times. When I tell you the steak/beef empanada had a bite so juicy the broth that was packed in with the savory, flavorful (but not salty) meat spurted forth like a dolphin that just realized it was late for a meeting on land, I damn well mean it. Tried the Ropa Vieja - flank steak, peppers onions in a red sauce. Shrimp - tasty Smac n' cheese - has a nice little kick to it. Very rich and cheesy Grilled chicken - packed a punch! Had good flavor but was a little on the salty side. Americana - it had a mixture of everything. Good Pizza burger - might've been our favorite one!! Delicious sauce, perfect amount of cheese. Just loves this one. Would order it again for sure. Cuban - probably our least favorite! Barely tasted any pernil, and packed with waaaay too much ham. Left some of this one behind cause we weren't too crazy about it. Tried every single sauce. All were good. My personal fave was the avocado. The heat was Hot but not overbearing and the pink was just like a regular mayo ketchup mix. Not bad. Ordered a bunch of different empanadas to try, and it was good that they "stamp" the exterior to differentiate one from the other. But they still got my order mixed up. I got a couple that I didn't order, and didn't get the ones that I really wanted to try (plain cheese and the pastelon). At least they had the amount right, since I got 7. Oh man am I glad I found this place. On my first visit I went and had the spinach and ricotta empanada and the plantain one as well. Both were made fresh and tasted great. Take my advice though, give these things about 15-20 minutes to cool down as I ate these in my car and nearly went down with a 3rd degree mouth burn. When we first walked in we were greeted very warmly by the friendly staff members who were patient and gracious enough to give us recommendations. I went with a ropa vieja and pastelon empanada. I am Puerto Rican so i was going against my usual for the sake of trying this new place. Both were good but the ropa vieja was AMAZING. the meat was so tender and juicy all while the empanada remained crispy on the outside. I ate my meal with passion fruit lime aide and it was a perfect pair. Before leaving I just felt like I needed the guava and cheese empanada so I ordered one to go but I couldn't wait to eat it and it was DELICIOUS. honestly 10/10 I won't ever forget this place! Ive been meaning to try this place for a while since its so close to where I live. After I saw they had jerk chicken empanadas, I had to try it. I had the classic beef, jerk chicken and the steak and plaintains empanada. They filled it up with meat and it was pretty flavorfull as well. I purchased all three of the sauces. I would recommend all of them but the pink one since it was really just ketchup and mayo. I would get them again. The first time I ordered, I got the three #signature empanadas (Bacalao fish, Jerk Chicken, Ropa Vieja). These were so amazing. The best empanadas I've ever had. So flavorful and juicy. I didn't need the #extra sauces I ordered (which were good sauces). I didn't want to cover up the flavors of the empanadas. The second time I ordered, I went with the non-signature empanadas (Plain Chicken, Ground Beef, Spinach and Ricotta). These are not as good as the signature ones and they needed the sauces. #They were still good. Probably as good as any empanada I've had before. While driving through our old neighborhood hubby & I stumbled upon Empanada City. We ordered Bacalao, Ropa Vieja & Beef. Wow! Amazing flavor in every bite. The empanadas are generously filled and the pastry is light & crisp perfectly fried. The ropa vieja tasted like my grandma spent all day in the kitchen showing that beef lots of love the flavor was on point. The bacalao was also authentically tasty hubby loved his beef empanada. Amazing! The empanadas were so so good. We probably ordered just about every kind. Our favorites were.... well, all of them! My kids loved the plantain and cheese one. They LOVE maduros. My husband really like the pizza burger. I really enjoyed the shrimp and the pastalon. The sauces were sooo good too. You can really tell that there was a lot of thought out into the menu. So so good and really great flavors. Even the plain chicken one was good! We will definitely be back again! I am so thankful we happened to drive past and notice this place. Awesome place! Ropa vieja was stuffed full of tasty pork - never had so much meat in an empanada before and it worked nicely. The shrimp empanada, while a little short on shrimp, was delectable thanks to a fresh tomato/onion salsa. 'Heat' sauce was a tasty, fresh chimichurri mix. The lemonade was too sweet for my taste, but it was made from fresh fruit. My only real nitpik is that all the empanadas are deep fried; delicious but heavy.
