I had a great experience at Amber Steakhouse, I haven't tried any of the other iconic NYC steakhouses so I don't have any other steakhouse to compare it to but I chose Amber as the prices are slightly more affordable than Peter Luger and they had a few more unique menu options for a traditional steakhouse. They also were super accommodating as I had called last minute on NYE to see if they had any tables earlier in the day, they were able to schedule me in + accommodate as much they could because I had my baby with me. The servers were top notch, very attentive and hospitable. They took my coat for me, made a spot for my stroller and even assisted on coming in and out the restaurant with the stroller which was wonderful. There were a few other children in the restaurant so it is children friendly but still a quiet, calm environment. The only awkward thing is I had to put my stroller on the other side of the table so essentially I had to hold my baby while I ate instead of having her next to me in the stroller but understandable because I was in the walkthrough area. Arugula salad was a 9/10, it was light and slightly sweet and the cheese complimented the sweetness of the apples perfectly and the pepperiness of the arugula. T-Bone Steak: 8.5/10 it was delicious especially with the steak sauce, the steak had a great char the fat was rendered and crispy only downside was I asked for medium rare and I got more of a medium well but this is typical of most restaurants so I wasn't that disappointed but for a steakhouse you'd think they would be masters at cooking to the desired internal temperature. Scallop entree 8/10: instead of doing a traditional side I just got the scallop entree as my side the waiter was a little confused by that lol but I didn't want to load up on carbs + was craving scallops and the entree scallops sounded better than the appetizer scallop dish. The scallop entree was honestly wonderful, scallops had a Smokey flavor from the bacon, the bacon was perfectly crispy and the asparagus with the sauce paired perfectly. Lastly not pictured was the oysters 9/10 Oysters were Blue Point oysters, they were delicious the platter came with all the accoutrements (cocktail sauce, hot sauce, mignonette including freshly grated horseradish. I personally love a more briny oyster they were a hit for me especially with the horseradish. I personally will have to try the other popular steakhouses in NYC and Brooklyn to compare my meal at Amber to so I can accurately judge where they stand in terms of taste and quality but I enjoyed my meal and time at Amber and everything I ordered was delicious, it was a great way to end the year! read more

This place is very close to our apartment. It is a go to dinner spot. It has a cozy feel. The steak is very fresh and filling. It is seasoned very well and melts in your mouth with a buttery finish. Instead of prime grade 28+ days dry aged beef like most of its competitors, they are offering Angus choice quality beef dry aged for only 21 days. With that said, their prices are slightly lower than Manhattan restaurants. Our 48oz porterhouse is about 3/4 the price of the most famous steak houses in the city. At the same time, it costs more than Peter Luger in Brooklyn, so not such a great deal after all? Considering it's choice grade, I would say value is not quite there. I rather pay a bit more for quality. Three of us shared a medium rare porterhouse recently. It had a nice seared crust, but was a little bit under seasoned. The other issue is that there was a large ring of brown underneath the crust, while the center of the steak was still pretty rare. It wasn't a bad steak, especially for the price. However, the question is would I rather pay more and eat a better quality steak? I think the answer is "Yes". As for the appetizers and sides, I enjoyed the smoky grilled octopus and the tender scallops. However, the Caesar salad was really weird, with a sauce that tasted more like Russian dressing. Our side of sautéed mushroom & spinach was decent, but the portion size is tiny for the price. Anyway, if you're looking for a decent steak house with reasonable prices, this may be a good option. However, don't come here if you're searching for the best steak in the city. For that, I recommend spending a little more for a better steak house. read more

Amazing place for a date night or a family gathering at a white cloth restaurant! Definitely fancy and old school I really enjoyed coming here before and now I came here for more! I remember enjoying their scallop appetizer with avocado mashed potatoes which was super creamy. This time I ordered the mussels and it did not disappoint. All of the mussels had no dirt or sand at all and the red sauce was divine. I also ordered the arugula salad with pear and it was sweet and salty and perfectly done! I'm a big salad fan and also my partner isn't into onions but they have really thin sliced ones so it won't really be as noticeable. The steaks were incredible- the filet Mignon was super buttery and rich. We also got the ribeye and that was super tasty as well. Funnily enough we ordered some pickles with it which were good but just placing it out here it was $10 for a side of pickles. I the crème brûlée to finish the meal off and it was gigantic and the torched top of it was really crispy and the cream inside was yummy and fresh. Espresso is $5. Everything came speedily and service was really nice and I appreciated the servers as they made sure we were well accommodated. Came here for Valentine's Day and place was poppin. I definitely recommend making reservations for the holidays because during prime time dinner hours there were no empty tables. The restaurant is pretty small and doesnt allow much space between the tables, but that is probably because they split out more tables for two for Valentine's Day. The hostess greeted us at the door and we were quickly shown to our table. The meal started with some warm onion bread and butter. Nothing special but warm bread is always nice. We had the scallops with avocado mash potatoes and that is a must have dish. The scallops were perfectly cooked and you can split them with a fork. The truffle sauce was a bit sweet but everything worked really well together. The french onion soup was standard but not really something I would order again. For the mains we ordered the bone-in ribeye and rack of lamb. Going to a high-end steakhouse you already expect the meats to be delicious and Amber's does not disappoint. The lamb chops were really tender and the chimichurri sauce compliments it well. The ribeye had a beautiful char but I wish it was seasoned a tad more. Creamed spinach was flavorful and the bacon mac and cheese can be a main dish by itself. Overall, dinner at Amber Steakhouse was a great experience. The staff was attentive and removed finished plates quickly and refilled drinks once they were getting low. Wow! I was blown away by the food, ambience, and service at this gem of a find. Since we were celebrating my birthday, we really went for it and indulged. For appetizers, we knew we had to get the home cured bacon that is insane in every best way possible. It tasted like the best ham I have ever had and was a huge hit. We also shared the fried calamari, which was lightly coated in a delightful breading and served with a tomato sauce and a wasabi cream sauce that has a nice zing to it. We also had the scallops in a Madeira wine sauce over avocado mashed potatoes. Both were medium rare and from what our two friends said, we seemed really happy as we both were silent for a few minutes because it was just so very good. I must say the accommodating for both my dad and I was great, and I haven't seen this before, that when we ordered a Rib Eye to split, I like mine Medium and he likes Well Done. Hands down my favorite steakhouse in Greenpoint. I've come about 5-6 times in the last year. The food is phenomenal - I have two go to's. If I'm with someone also feeling the porterhouse for 2, that's my #1 option, it comes out searing hot, with boiling butter in the plate to soak up the flavor with the steak. This time, my fiancée was feeling a filet for a lighter night. She got the filet mignon and I got the 24 oz T-Bone. I've had the T-bone and the ribeye but tend to prefer the T-bone when given the option. You can't go wrong either way, the individual steaks are just as tasty. The calamari for an appetizer is great, as fellow Italians there's hesitancy ordering this when not at an Italian restaurant. But the hidden gem is the green sauce that comes with it, which is a wasabi based sauce and has a great kick. I got the French onion soup which is always delicious here. For sides, we went with the mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and bacon Mac and cheese. The bacon mac and cheese is a show of its own. Comes out in a cast iron skillet, and the cheese is boiling hot. It's not a super wet Mac and cheese, it's more on the thick side and it's unbelievable. Thick cut bacon mixed in, adds a nice touch. Mushrooms were also very good and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes are what you expect and didn't disappoint. For dessert, we went with our go-to the chocolate mousse cake. They have a bakery who only makes this for Amber Steakhouse. It's unreal, nice cold fudge top that you need to cut through to get to the mousse portion. It's unreal, if you like chocolate mousse, order it! You won't be sorry. Espressos, wine, beer on tap, and we even did a recommended drink called the Aloe Vera (tastes like a cucumber margarita and it was great, light, and refreshing). Lastly, let me shed some light on what makes Amber Steakhouse better than most (and I constantly entertain clients for fine dining)... Most steakhouses have a stuffy, elite feel, where your waiter is attentive but they are expecting big tips for mediocre service. NOT AMBER. My favorite waiter, now friend, Andre, is unbelievable. You cannot find enough "Andre's" in the world to replicate what Amber provides in the experience area. We didn't even sit in Andre's area last night, but he still took time to come over, ask how we've been doing, and we had a great conversation about more than just the food. Experience is key, that's what you pay for when you come to places of this caliber. I always leave a big tip here because they put so much effort into the experience portion and I feel it's my obligation to show my appreciation for a fantastic night out. Without the people, this review wouldn't be so positive. And that's every single time, all 5-6 visits. It's remarkable. Visit this place, have a conversation with the waitstaff, they are great people. Treat them with kindness, and they'll 10x it back to you in return. You walk away feeling no other restaurants do this properly. It's a nice feeling. Oh and lastly, on the topic of not a stuffy elitist environment, they are playing some great music in the background. The service was good and FYI, they automatically add in gratuity no matter how many people are in your party in case you missed that on your receipt like I almost did. Batter was perfect and good ratio. Steak Tartare - okay this was super disappointing. This didn't remind me why I love steak tartare. I wish I would have known it was ground not chunk. I hate eating ground tartare. It is not good at all. The texture just didn't cut it and neither did the taste. Very bland and needed texture. Hiii, the steaks from this place are quiet thick(some ppl might like it thick but not me )for my tastes, the 2nd time I went I ordered fish instead, it was delectable, better than the steak in my opinion, my favor thing on the menu was the scallops from the appetizer dishes, omg I loved it, The ambience is lovely. The service, the waiters/waitresses are a bit pushy so look at the menu and know what you want before you seat down lol, they make you feel like is a competition wtf I also tried the Calamari pretty good, the lobster mac it was ok, Overall a good culinary experience! 5 Stars to the Scallops, it cost 28$ for Dos Scallops but I don't care it's flavorful read more
