    The food here is great as you can see. They have an insanely large alcohol menu and nice outside seating. You will never feel forgotten about outside. They always have people coming out with perfect timing to make sure you are good on everything.

    My friends and I went to Salt & Charcoal to grab a bite before going out, and it did not disappoint. The service was great--our waiter gave excellent recommendations, had no issue modifying items for allergies, and checked in often. The food was everything, and the drinks were great too. We ordered the crab cake, grilled calamari, charcoal-grilled broccoli, and multiple sushi rolls--the Japanese Wagyu roll was our favorite. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

    Salt + Charcoal is an upscale Japanese steakhouse offering wagyu, sushi and other dishes. Prices are high, so come with that expectation. However, the ambience is great and the food is amazing. Service was attentive and friendly and Domino Park is just 2 blocks away if you want a stroll after dinner!

    After seeing foodgasm worthy photos of my friend's meal on instagram, Salt + Charcoal has been on my list of "Want to Try" for the past three years. I'd been saving it for a special occasion as my #1 top priority and that occasion finally arose as I was turning 34 this year and my beloved partner booked us a reservation for 7 PM on a crisp Saturday evening. The place comfortable seats about 25 patrons with mixed styles of tables and booths, and this lucky birthday boy was delighted to share the latter with the love of his life. We were seated in one of the booths along the main avenue with flower pots in interesting vases lining the window. The waitstaff all had a hip modern Japanese flair to their dress, and it was clear this was a moonlighting job for these models/actors. There was an extensive alcohol list with many sake's to choose from (yum) as well as the full dinner menu and specials. When shiso shows up on the menu, I immediately get it so I went with the Shiso Mojito while my partner went for a licorice-tasting cocktail I forgot the name to; both were well mixed and interesting. We took a while to choose from the extensive food menu since everything sounded good, but eventually decided on the Japanese Wagyu Roll (so we could have a taste of their Wagyu), the Yellowtail Roll for more shisho leaf goodness, the rib eye special for one which came with their signature wasabi cream sauce, a side of cheese fries and their unique uni filet mignon steak which I'd heard so much about and to which my friend said was an absolute must. Wagyu Roll -- I was worried the truffle oil would be overpowering but it worked really well in the roll. The flavours all worked well together. Although I understand the point of the crunchy potatoe flakes for texture, they were a bit distracting in the roll and I could done without them. Yellowtail Roll -- again, really well-balanced and tasty; the shiso leaf helped cut the potential heavyness of the fish and crabstick, but overall, really well balanced. I liked this one a lot. I'd definitely order either roll again, and might just come back out to have them. I was already getting full at this point, sharing these rolls with my partner, but luckily we had drinks and the steaks took a while to come out. Ribeye special -- medium-rare was the correct choice. The steak on its own was really flavourful and that 60 day (?) aging really worked wonders for it, even if it wasn't wagyu. It doesn't matter though, it was incredibly tasty and I'd come back for this again 110%. Uni Filet Mignon -- I really really wanted to love this...but it was too much. The filet mignon sits on the bottom with a layer of ikura (salmon roe) with uni on top of that. It sounds great in practice, but is way too much umami at once. The uni and ikura really overpower the dish, so much so that you can't taste the beef at all. I actually had to spread it off to try and see what the meat tasted like (delicious, obviously, but not as good as the rib-eye). The bed of watercress was a good compliment that gave lightness to the dish since everything else was so strong flavoured. Overall, I'm eagerly awaiting another opportunity to come back to Salt + Charcoal, but I'll be more deliberate about the choice of meat next time.

    Really nice and cozy spot to come and eat. I would even say a romantic spot. The place is a cross between Peter Luger and Japanese Sushi. Delicious dry aged steak you can enjoy medium rare, and incredibly fresh sushi ingredients with toasty seaweed you roll yourself with perfectly steamed white rice. We tried the porterhouse. The service... perfect service without any boogie energy. Just straight great service thru out the meal. All together a really nice treat for the money. We recommend it, it made for a great date for wifey and I.

    Believe the hype. I was so very pleased with my experience at Salt+Charcoal! It started with the ambiance. What a wonderful looking restaurant. We were taken downstairs to a very intimate room. The servers were so kind and helpful. We ordered a few apps, salad, and the porterhouse. Nothing disappointed. First off, they have course times down to a science. We weren't rushed and we weren't waiting. It almost felt like the moment we were ready for the next course it was at our table. The food is sensational. The reviews don't lie! I will be coming back again, for sure!

    Had higher expectations for this place based on some reviews. It is a small restaurant with limited amount of seating inside. The service was a bit slow. Ordered the porterhouse for 2, two sushi rolls, tuna tartare and S+C baked potatoes. The porterhouse was a bit underwhelming and was not as flavorful compared to other steaks I've had. It definitely needed the addition of herb and butter as well as two other sauces. The tuna tartare was fresh and complimented well with the nori sheets. The sushi rolls were a bit overpriced and were just okay.

    Just had the amazing Brunch at Salt and Charcoal in Brooklyn. We tried the new Brunch menu : DIY Temaki hand-rolls. The set include the A5 wagyu tartare, A5 wagyu+ uni, ikura, avocado, cucumber & egg for $38. It was so fun to make the hand roll by ourselves, Plus the New York strip steak was insanely tender.     Unique and classy with incredible food! Came here on Valentine's Day which is much different experience than a regular meal, so some the anecdotes may not apply, but I would definitely come back her for a date night meal. The restaurant let us know that Valentine's Day was going to be ore-fixe at $160 a person without drinks. Now I wasn't planning on spending much more on a fancy meal but sticker shock went away when we were sat and given the menu. Each course was SO interesting from flavor to the presentation, and the 8oz steak was a delight. The sushi was a notably delicious bite and the matcha cake was also quite stellar. The wait staff were very quick, we even out paced the couple next to us who were sat first, and that couple decided to have a problem with it, which the staff were so friendly and apologetic (though it wasnt there fault). I have to say the steak was truly something to come back for and my date got the duck - which was outstanding as well. Really a classy and unique steak house that's worth the visit.

    Great great service and food. Small location but everything they do they do very well. From the drinks. To the sushi. To the entrees. Everything was absolutely delicious. Started with the Kale Salad, which I thought would have been so so. Turns out it was absolutely delicious! Just a really great place. Will absolutely return.

    5 stars! Another great restaurant experience in Williamsburg. I'm not a red meat or steak eater although restaurant clicks.com rates them #1 in steaks and they are rated in front of Peter Lugar. The main floor has booth seating, regular seating and a full bar. There is outside seating with heaters for the cold weather. They also have seating down stairs which has a nice room with a full wine selection that you can request on the weekends. It's also available for private parties and it has a full sound system and disco ball. Service was AWESOME!! our waiter Tee was on point and what I liked most was that he explained all the dishes the came out and what to expect in flavor. He also explained how they were able to achieve the flavor. It's a comfortable space and all of the wait staff were exceptional. They work well together and hep each other so no customers are left hanging. Again, staff and service was great. I can't see anyone not having a great time. We ordered just the right amount of food. Started with the charcoal grilled edamame which had a smoke flavor. It was definitely different than any edamame I have had in the past. The best part was the crab cake, fresh lump, home made with no fillers just crab. It is accompanied by a Wasabi cream sauce that has a nice kick. We ordered 3 rolls, the Japanese Wagu roll, the Shrimp Crunch roll and the Damon roll. All of them had a flavor of their own. Good size portions and each roll had a distinct flavor. Ion the host was very outgoing, got us in even without a reservation on a Saturday night. I would highly recommend Salt & Charcoal for a great experience. They are open every day from 5:30 pm to midnight. You can book your reservation through Resy.

    I decided to come here for my birthday dinner with the bf. This is a quaint little restaurant on the corner - it's not a huge space but it's put together well. Excellent service - very attentive, informative & polite. Food was great! The steak with that herb butter was everything. I loved the wagyu roll which was one of their specials for the day. Most wine bottles were decently priced- I ended up with the only Rośe bottle they had available. I'm glad I was allowed to taste it first. It was nice, loved the way it hit on the nose. My bfs cocktail was delicious and refreshing. Be prepared to spend $$$ because this place wasn't cheap. Especially the wagyu steaks which we did not get because I didn't want to do that to my man's wallet haha. I think it was something like $180 for an 8oz wagyu? And $270 for a 12oz? Maybe I sound cheap but no thank you. Overall, I would come again but only on a special day. Since it was my birthday I allowed myself to be spoiled. Sharing the steak was a great idea especially because it's summer and its hard to stuff yourself. After the salmon, sushi roll, bottle of Rośe (which I mostly drank) and literally 2 slices of that thick, juicy steak with assorted veggies - I was absolutely content.

    Not really. Its a steakhouse. There arent a ton of kid friendly items like burgers and fries. But if they like fancy food and quality steak, sure bring em.

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

It had a unique flavor that reminded me of a mix between soondubu and dwenjang chigae which worked well. Unfortunately, the rest was a miss. The bossam was overly salty and didn't feel true to the dish. The tteokbokki was another disappointment -it came with cheese (which wasn't expected) and just fell flat overall. For the hype, I expected much more especially because I've eaten Korean food my whole life. The venue is small and the seats in the back are uncomfortable.
