Wow East Village! You have yourself a gem with Rake Wine Bar! We were waiting for our dinner reservations and decided to stop in here for a pre-dinner drink and bite. I am SO glad we did. The vibe drew us in, they had great music bumpin from the outside, it looked lively and welcoming. Let me tell you- I would have skipped dinner and just stayed here all evening if it was my choice! But alas, my husband wanted a bit more to eat. But let me tell you- their knowledge of wine is PRISTINE! I can't tell you what white wine we had but they captured our tastes perfectly. We also shared a bruschetta and it was deliciouso! I love how friendly the staff was here and how unpretentious it all was. My partner and I were looking for a great double date spot, so we decided to give Rake a try due to its relaxing vibe and multitude of bites we could share. First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. I came here on a Wednesday night with my cousin around 6pm for drinks. There were plenty of tables outside and inside and we had no problem getting a seat. I had the tepache, which wasn't as sweet as I was expecting, but wasn't bad. We also ordered the baked burrata to share, which came with a huge slice of focaccia and basil-walnut pesto. This place was a little confusing to locate as it wasn't exactly located on First Avenue but I would definitely return. Dimly lit and intimate, good for dates, quick catch up with friends or a solo glass of wine. We ducked in out of the rain while looking to kill a few minutes before our dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant. It was a really lucky move on our part. Our waiter (sorry I didn't get his name-Friday 2/20 early evening) was great and made sure we had a good experience and finished in time for our reservation. The bread we ordered was just the thing to go with a good bottle of wine. We found the wine list to be solid and fairly priced. As it's February and raining, all the seating was inside. While not a large space, it was comfortable. We absolutely would return in the future, as it is one unexpected great places you remember when you think of your trip. read more

I'm really surprised that this place doesn't have more reviews, as it is really a nice option for a wine bar in the area. The vibe is on point for what you'd want here. It is connected to a wine store and they really do seem to pay attention overall to the theme (especially in the bathroom with their decor/plants, which is always a huge plus to me!). Their glass menu is reasonable/not overwhelming and fairly priced. I was a skosh disappointed that 2/3 of the chilled reds they did not have (especially since they're connected to a wine store...like why not just stock a different chilled red?). But the waitress was super nice and talked us through some other options and also bonded with us while we sat at the bar. They don't have a happy hour which would be a bit of a draw, but the prices overall again aren't so tough. We grabbed some bar seats right when they opened but I can imagine that the tables get a bit overwhelming given how close together/small they are. read more

If you're waiting for your reservation at Lucien, this is the perfect spot for a quick glass of wine or a destination to meet friends. The outdoor seating is cute with lots of foliage and overhead lights and on a quieter street off 1st Ave. If it's too hot to sit outside, the AC inside is quite nice as well. Quaint but high quality wine bar. Tthis space is adjacent to a wine/liquor store next door. Very cool layout where a glass window separates the space - can take a peek into the wine store next door! We got the wine flights - $25 for 3 glasses (3oz pours). You can pick from any of the options on their well curated list: sparkling, whites, oranges, chilled reds, reds (Nebbiolo and Dessert Wines excluded from flights). The staff was very well-versed on the menu and was able to give great recommendations according to preferences. Happy and satisfied with our choices and had a wonderful time.
