Many moons ago I used to frequent Jadis often in evenings for wine and catching up with friends. So apparently I have a draft saved from 8 or 9 years ago that I hadn't posted since I've been a fan of Jadis for over a decade though unfortunately hadn't been back post-covid. They're a local classic and rightfully so, the warm, cozy exposed brick atmosphere with comfy seating, dark wooden beams across the ceiling, dim lighting, and set-in book shelves all transport you to a rustic restaurant in French wine country. In a Friday evening at 6pm I made reservations in advance for 5 people and upon visit found their street seating to be mostly full and interior front of the lounge about half full. The back was pretty empty though I think probably better for later evening get-togethers. The staff was welcoming and quick to direct us to scan the menu via QR code, they have happy hour until 7pm, so there are a handful of drinks and snacks discounted. Silly enough I realized when we assembled that none of the other ladies that made it that night drank alcohol so I only ended up getting a beer, but surely next time I'll be back for wine considering Jadis is a wine bar! We ordered: - CONCOMBRE $8 for HH: Cucumber, lemon, cucumber syrup, seltzer. My friend enjoyed this refreshing drink. - MONTAUK SUMMER ALE (PALE ALE, NY, 5.6%) $6 for HH: light and not too hoppy for east summer vibes. I switched out my order and unfortunately they forgot to charge me for the right can. - PORK PATE $12: HH special served with slices of French baguette, love a good pate! - OVEN ROASTED BRANZINO FILET $26: Mediterranean mild white fish filet, roasted potatoes, harivot vert, lemon (gf). My friend enjoyed this dish and said the fish was cooked well though wished the portion size was a little more. - PAN SEARED 8 OZ NZ GRASS-FED SKIRT STEAK $32: Roasted potatoes, Provençal tomato confit, arugula, herb sauce (gf). Another friend and I both ordered this. Great flavors, a few chewy bits as skirt steak is wont to have. Was pretty full after eating this. - OVEN ROASTED ORGANIC CHICKEN BREAST PROVENÇAL $25: Mashed potatoes, haricot vert, shallots, virgin jus (gf). Other friend liked this as well. - BEEF BOURGUIGNON $33: Off the bone Short ribs braised in red wine, pearl onions, mushroom, carrots, potatoes (gf). Yumm so good! For reference they are also a great venue for private events, years ago I hosted my friend's bridal shower here on a Saturday afternoon. They allowed us to bring our own decorations as long as we ordered their food and drink items (outside of cake which they let us bring in separately). I will be back for wine next time! read more

My husband and I recently revisited Jadis for a bit of nostalgia - it was one of our dates in the early days of us dating! Happy hour is still amazing with a range of affordably priced wines and bites. Since it's winter, we had a craving for mulled wine, which also ended up being on the happy hour menu. We chose to get the baked salmon spread which was fantastic... very flavorful, super fresh. Service was extremely attentive, and while it was quiet when we went in at opening, it got busy quickly. I recently celebrated my graduation with a larger group at Jadis, and it was such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The team was incredibly accommodating with changes to timing and party size, and everyone was so kind throughout the planning process. They set up a beautiful table with candles and flowers that made the night feel extra special. The food was fantastic -- you really can't go wrong with any of the apps, dips, or salads, and the mains were incredible as well. The wine and cocktails were also excellent. My friend and I stopped by Jadis last night for some wine and small plates after attending an event at The Tenement Museum. I really loved the ambiance and overall vibe of the place. It's relaxed, quiet, cozy, dimly lit...the polar opposite of the LES spots I used to seek out in my 20s and 30s, yet exactly what I seek out these days. :) We ordered some pinot noir and shared the tiger shrimp, escargot, and beet salad. The shrimp and escargot were delicious and garlicky and came with crusty bread to soak up all of the tasty seasoned olive oil. The beet salad came lightly dressed with frisée, goat cheese, and pistachios. The only minor issue I had with the beets is that there was a very powerful spice that tasted like a particular type of peppercorn (maybe Szechuan) that was extremely overpowering and off putting. The salad would've been perfect without it, but it kind of ruined the dish for me. Everything else was great though, including the service (very attentive without being too much). Jadis is definitely a neighborhood gem, and I will definitely be back. read more

Love the wine bars in this area and Jadis might be my fav! It's super spacious inside with a great happy hour selection, some cocktails (which I prefer to an all wine menu), and the food is so good! Really cute ambiance and obviously a very extensive wine list of reds and white and nice to see oranges! There's a decent amount of wines from Hungary and Italy as well as France. My friend and I were able to walk in and share a carafe of the Sauvignon blanc on a Saturday around 7, and my friend mentioned seating in the back looked super cute for a date night! They also had small plates and food, and it smelled amazing even though we had just come from dinner. Our waiter was super on top of it but overbearing - which I can sincerely appreciate. I came here early on Friday evening with a friend and was able to get the korozott from the happy hour menu which had about 6 crostinis with a cottage cheese spread and picked onion (7/10). This was definitely unusual but wasn't bad! I also ordered the Pinot blanc which was refreshing and citrusy. We also split the artichokes (6/10 they were good but only came with 4 hearts? Which is crazy for $14) And then branzino (8.5/10) great branzino with a crispy skin and really good green beans but the potatoes were a little dry and there were only 3 small pieces! Overall I'd come back for the happy hour menu and to maybe try out the tarts but otherwise I think it's a little overpriced! read more

Such a cozy and cute little wine bar! We stopped by and saw they had everyday HH until 7pm. What a steal even on Saturday's! We got 4 glasses of Syrah wine ($8 a glass) and 2 appetizers. The mushroom risotto puffs were tasty. The toasted Brie on bread was good too. Nothing special about the food but the service was great. The bar got super busy around 730pm on Saturday. This place is like a hole in the wall. It's a cozy hole, though. Still, across the street is a hospital... I guess if you get alcohol poisoning, you are in good hands, but the view isn't so nice. The service is friendly. As for the wines, this isn't the place to go to drink DRCs or Krugs. However, it's decent and well priced. The food, I only tied the escargot and olives and ice cream. The escargot is very well done, possibly one of the best in NY. Olives are olives. The ice cream is not really ice cream. It's like grainy sandy thing that probably what clay tastes like. Took a jaunt down to give this European Wine Bar a try. The service was solid. Natalie did an amazing job taking care of us. The wine list is extensive and has some unique gems that will definitely accommodate your palate. The food is good, but not the main draw to this unassuming spot. Stumbled upon this wine bar after not wanting to wait in line for Double Chicken Please - what a pleasant accident! Not only is this place not in the least bit pretentious, it's also incredibly cozy, especially the space all the way in the back with the communal couches and tables. Service was great! I accidentally knocked over my glass of Chardonnay - not because I was drunk but that I speak with vivid hand gestures lol - and broke the glass. Staff immediately came over and swept up the mess and also brought me a new glass of wine. Noise level was conducive to having audible conversations. One of the best happy hours I've been to in the city! We went at around 5 on a Thursday and were one of the only tables inside. The server was attentive and kept our drinks filled. What we ordered: I started off with the seasonal wine and my boyfriend got the Aperol spritz. My wine was great, but the aperol spritz could have used more aperol. Then i ordered the sangria and my bf got a beer. We also split the cheese spread, which was prepared nicely, but was nothing special (but also only $6 so I guess we shouldn't have had high hopes). I had the best Chardonnay there. And also a not so good pinot. Can't get everything you want. I had the butternut squash soup and the beef bourguignon. I thought the soup was a bit too watery for a butternut squash soup at first, but it got better as I finished it. The beef was done well. I loved the service; very attentive and made me feel well taken care of. And I loved the break and rolling ceiling (you have to go check it out to understand what I mean by that). I know Jadis is a wine bar, but I happened to come here with my friends because they actually wanted dessert LOL. Well, they ended up having wine AND dessert, I actually stuck to just having dessert. They have a pretty solid crème brûlée I must say. Really hit the spot! Service was great. They were prompt and actually gave us a bit of a show by making the dessert right in front of us. Although to be fair, we also sat at the bar so that might have just been happenstance. Ambience here is as you would expect of a wine bar. Dimmed lighting, cozy, and fairly intimate. I had a great time just having conversations with my friends as it had been a while since we had caught up. Overall, solid place if you want a night out that isn't too over the top. I had a decent time here last night. I went in finding out that this was a cute first date spot and the ambiance was spot on for just that, which was really nice. The service was quick and efficient and I thought the waiter was really attentive (especially when I asked him about specific dishes that had cilantro or parsley that I wanted to avoid). For drinks, I got a Kir Royal which was good enough to get again! The fois gras was something I wanted to try but I was mentioning to my date it's maybe a texture thing but I probably could go my whole life without eating it again and be very happy. It was not bad though, average for sure. The Mac and cheese (not pictured) was really great, as usually you can't go wrong with it. I did not eat the skirt steak but from what I was told it was good, (3.5/5). I thought the panini was already pretty decent, pesto was very tasty but the only reason I ordered it was because my first choice on the menu (vegetable couscous) was mentioned to have parsley so I switched it out for this. Overall the food being pretty average was what drove this review. I would come back for drinks and the vibe and maybe order something else (and def the Mac and cheese) to give it another shot. read more

Came here for dinner for the first time last night and it exceeded expectations! first, it was a very cozy environment inside - perfect for a romantic date night when it is cold and snowy outside. Tables are spaced out making it very safe during the pandemic. Second, our waitress was super friendly and suggested we order less food than we originally requested because the portions are generous. I really appreciated her comment and immediately caught my attention as one of the most genuinely sincere people! Third, their wine and food were very good! Very cozy ambience with good food & great service. We went on a weekday around 6, so it was happy hour. My glass of prosecco was $8. I forgot to take pictures of the rest of our courses because we were caught up in conversation, so I must add that this is a great place to catch up with friends or go on a date. In addition to the baguette and vegetable crudité we got as appetizers, we ordered a cheese board and the vegetable couscous. The cheese board came with even more bread, in addition to the usual assortment of fruits. Each of the cheese we tried were good, the bread was fantastic, and the couscous was beyond satisfactory. Ordered a bottle of wine at Jadis on Thursday night. A nice space to enjoy some wine and enjoy a romantic evening. Quality: After dinner we decided to find a spot to order a bottle of wine and relax. Jadis has a fairly large wine list with a good assortment of options across the price spectrum. We went with a Syrah, which was good, though would have benefited from being a little more chilled. Summer is always rough at New York wine bars as few have that cellar or fridge space to keep things at a cooler room temperature. We didn't order food, but what we saw looked decent. Quantity: Decent sized wine list. Value: $11-$18 for Glasses. Bottles were fairly reasonable. Ambiance: Jadis is a wine bar located in the Lower East Side. They had a few tables outside, but the street is under construction and was a little loud. Inside it is a very cozy space with brick walls, book shelves, candles, and what appeared to be some couches towards the back. The music was very relaxed and it felt like a solid date spot. However, the open kitchen at the center posed two issues, one it made it very hot inside and two it filled the space with smoke. Crowd: Only a few tables in use on Thursday night despite the reserved signs. Service: They prefer reservations even though the place sat mostly empty, however the waiter at the counter area was very kind. Parking: Some nearby street parking. read more

Me and my mom came in here for dinner on our last night in NYC. The ambiance is so amazing, low lighting, candlelight, and felt like I was in a wine cellar. We had the eggplant dip for appetizer which was really good! We liked the dip with bread ($3) better than with the veggies it came with. We shared the beef bourguignon and the couscous. I am significantly reducing my meat intake and the couscous was the only veggie dish available. My mom really enjoyed both dishes. I love Jadis (Zhaa-dee)! I was at VR place down the straight and needed to come back to reality. Jadis was a great place to do that and catch up with a good friend. A lot of first date/meet-ups here it seems. It was easy to overhear the convo of the two peeps right next to us who had met on a dating app. We were at a table in the front as the back couches were full this time. I had the carafe the grapefruit rose sangria which was light and refreshing and the grapefruit was not overpowering. My friend had the kir royal which was equally good. I think I may have that next time. We stuck with the small bites this time around. We had the bruschetta, bacon-wrapped scallops, crab-cakes bites and smoked salmon on blinis. All were good, the tomatoes on the bruschetta were very ripe and slightly tangy, the bacon was the star in the bacon-wrapped scallops dish, and I was pleasantly surprised the crab cake bites as I normally don't like crab cakes. The salmon was probably the show stopper, though. Next time, I will explore more of the menu. Great service and ambiance. Our server checked on us multiple times and was always there when needed. I will not sit next to the heat pole next time. If you are always cold, then you should sit by it :P read more

I miss Jadis, and I barely know it. You now how you return from a trip where you sought out a lot of cool and interesting places to wine and dine or slurp noodles in spicy broth, and yet one place lingers in your memory? It happens to be the place you weren't really looking for? That's the best kind. We were cruising around LES some time after dinner and decided after a long day out to stop in for a late night glass of wine and maybe a few snacks. It was literally just the closest wine bar and I wasn't particularly interested in what Yelp had to say about it. Glad we stopped, because this place is a gem. Down the steps you go and enter a remarkable space, the walls lined with ancient bricks, not unusual in the area of course, and then you look up and the ceiling is bricked. What--who does that? That is very old, and something no one would do today, that's for sure. It creates a semi-dark space that is at once relaxing and intimate. Were we in a Parisian wine cellar? Could have been. We grab a table. There's zero pretense here and I ask for help with one of the glasses of wine, a Tempranillo, and am amply rewarded. Olives are ordered, and then light charcuterie and cheese. The triple cream brie...OMG. The tired feet melt, everything is right with the world and we leave not really knowing what just happened, but continue to talk about the experience the rest of the trip. Why we didn't return shall be the only question we ask. Why we'll visit upon our next trip to the city shall be the answer. read more

A cute restaurant in the lower east side, this place was the perfect spot to sit outside (only one table available at the front of the restaurant), drink some wine and eat some deliciously cut meat and cheeses. Although there is very limiting seating outside, the inside is wonderfully decorated as well, giving off a close and intimate vibe, great for dates or friend catch-up sessions. My boyfriend and I came here around 5 which was perfect as they have happy hour 5-7 Mon-Sat with $6-8 wines and sangria. I had their grapefruit sangria and it was deliciously made. It tasted super fresh and very well balanced. Great for a hot summer's day. As for the food, we started with the truffle mushroom risotto puffs. For $6, it was well-worth it. There were 4 delicious puffs of heaven. It had a crisp exterior from the filo dough and was soft and mushy on the inside from the rice and mushroom. The truffle was the perfect finishing touch. We also shared the mixed olives which was a yummy little plate of olives at $4. Both were great picks! As for the star, we got the platter of meats and cheese at $22. With that, you get a selection of 4 choices from a variety of meats and soft and hard cheeses. It also came with grapes, mustard and cornichons. We selected the Serrano ham, veal terrine, Fourme d'Ambert (a blue cheese) and Pierre Robert (similar to a brie but stronger). Everything was great for splitting between 2-3 people and they gave plenty of sliced baguette for the platter. At $22, it was so worth the price. Overall, it was a great experience. The service was so nice, very attentive. They constantly refilled our plates and checked on us to ensure we were enjoying our food and drinks. We definitely enjoyed everything. Delicious! read more

This bar provides the perfect level of class for a nice date in LES. It was really nice to sit at the bar and see the chefs prepare the hors d'oeuvres. The grapefruit sangria had a really refreshing taste, and didn't taste like it had much alcohol, but I definitely could feel it. read more

Cute, homey, intimate little place dimly lit with candles and furnished with couches, cozy tables, and exposed brick walls. We came here after dinner to continue our date night and it was just the perfect place. They have a list of select wines that, for the most part, can be ordered by the glass, carafe (equivalent to a little over than half a bottle), or a full bottle. They also have choices that are only available by the bottle. We ordered a carafe of the Padrillos Malbec-- a dry Argentinian red wine. It was delightful; strong, fruity notes yet still smooth and not at all overpowering. The carafe was perfect for the two of us. It came out to be about two glasses each which was just right to end our night before grabbing dessert. The service was friendly and attentive. Though we sat at the bar/counter it still felt intimate. I also had a chance to peek at the servers in the midst of their food preparations, those cheese plates looked mighty tantalizing! I definitely will be back. Can't wait to try some of their small plates as well as the charcuterie and of course, more vino! read more

Cute place to stop for a chat with a friend. Kind of dimly lit, good service, relatively inexpensive, and they were playing French versions of American pop songs, which was kind of fun. Was lucky enough to catch the tail end of happy hour, had a $4 glass of "Clot del Pila" Domaine Boudau 2010 Côtes du Roussillon, France and a $4 glass of Sangiovese "Farnese Terre Di Chieti" 2010 Ortona, Italy . Both were ok, not my favorites at all, but for a total of $8 how can I possibly complain? Post happy hour I moved on to the $8 Pinot Noir which I thought was very good. Big ups to any place with a Saturday Happy Hour (5-7 PM). For snacks we had the mushroom truffle risotto puffs for $6.00 and the Pierre Robert (French triple cream cheese, very yummy!) small plate for $8.00. Portion size of the cheese was good to share as a snack for two people. Cheese was served with one slice of tomato and some slices of baguette. The mushroom puffs were also tasty, but the portion size was so small, I don't think I'd order this again. All told, my half of the bill was $37 (including tax/tip) for 3 hours of enjoyment, wine, and yummy snacks, which is awesome! read more
