This is a cozy, nice wine bar with an extensive wine menu. There is a lounge area inside which is where you can get just drinks while the front of the restaurant has tables where you can get food and drinks. We did have to wait a little bit (~30 minutes) to get a table for 6, but the staff was very nice and accommodating. I'm actually not a huge wine person, but they had a lot of different options which looked interesting to me. We actually got a few pitchers of sangria which was nice. It was refreshing with the fresh cut fruits in the glass. For some of the other wines, you can get it by either glass, carafe, or bottle. Here tonight with the girls for HH. Drinks are $5 each on Mondays from 5-7pm. We got the table at the front by the window, pretty intimate and cute display of vintage bottles. Seating was a little tight though, my seat was right in front of a stool by the bar and the back of my head kept hitting the stool every time I layed back. Okay, $8 for 4 teeny pieces of their starters? Pretty expensive, and wasn't that flavorful. The mac and cheese tartlets were bland and tasted like the ones you can get in the frozen aisle, also got the risotto puffs which were piping hot and savory. It's a french place, gotta try their escargot of course. I have to say, it was the best plate I had tonight, was still bubbling when it got to our table, nice and garlicky, and the sauce was great with the bread. Next, the ham and gruyere cheese panini, ehhh just like a regular grilled cheese sandwich I can make at home myself, nothing special. How bout the bacon quiche? This was the perfect place for an intimate catch up with my high school friends, who I haven't seen in a while. Normally, it can be tough to get seated in a NY bar (especially on a Saturday night), but we managed to snag two couches that fit our group of 6! I was also impressed by their extensive wine list - they even had a white wine from this little island in Croatia (Korcula) that we enjoyed. We had tried great white wines during our trip to Croatia, but as you can imagine, it's hard to find Croatian wines in the U.S. Our waiter gave us the perfect amount of service - not too attentive where it's bothersome, but came to our table enough times to refill waters and wine glasses. Loved this spot for happy hour. The happy hour deals were very good, and the food menu had tons of delicious-sounding bites. There was a single small table outside and we asked to be seated there. Excellent people watching. I had a couple glasses of the viognier before switching to another white. I ordered the ham, gruyere, and caramelized onion pressed sandwich. The sandwich was tasty and came with a delicious side salad that had the most perfect cherry tomatoes. My friend had the alsacienne tarte which was absolutely phenoms. I would definitely get that on a return visit. A visit to the bathroom revealed a really chic lounge area towards the back of the restaurant - such a cute place for a small group gathering. So giving an update since my review was in 2015. It's 2020 ya'll and I still love this place. Still my go-to wine bar for happy hour around the area and if I'm not craving anything or want to stay within the area after work when I see my friends this is my default place. A perfect low-key spot to enjoy some wine and nibbles with friends. No crowds, no hovering for tables, lots of wood decor, and a convenient location. We were in the mood for a Lambrusco and luckily there was a bottle on the menu for $42. With that and a combo cheese plate for $24 (for any four items on their cheese/charcuterie menu, which was a really good deal), three of us were happy for a long time. I couldn't tell if the waiter was mansplaining or just really helpful ("Lambrusco is a sparkling wine"), but in any case he was very friendly and loved telling us how to pronounce the cheeses we weren't familiar with. I've been to Jadis 4 times in the last 5 months which may lead myself to believe im a fan but after the last visit ive come to the conclusion that we end up there because of proximity, dim light ambiance & fair prices. However, somethings can be said about the service. Happy hour is a good deal for the area, plenty of 5$ and 6$ a glass selections or wines and beer, we usually get a cheese & meat board, pick 4 for $22 i believe it was, the mushroom puffs, flambes are good but wow, that beet salad was good. the setup is adorable, very european feel with a clutter of bookshelves, antiquey lights and really really really worn down soft sofas which sink once you sit down, that or you can opt for the uber hard stools with no back support. the service has never been warm, its never been downright rude either however we always feel rushed to enjoy ourselves if the plates are emptied and our glasses are half full, the waitress' attitudes are very brusque and unwelcoming, they simply plop around and ask do you want another glass of that? if you or someone answers no, they go off in a semi huff worth a visit if you're in the area but they are plenty of other if not better options read more

Though their happy hour is a major draw, this is less of a party spot and more of a quiet spot for a catch up with a friend or a second date. Lighting is dim, though this is more cozy than it is romantic; the back of the space feels more coffee shop or living room-like, so I'd go for the front room for people-watching if in a smaller group. On a weeknight, it was near-empty, and I don't think it's difficult to get a table on weekends either. Prices on wine are reasonable, with glasses ringing in around $10 and most bottles around $40 to $60. The selection is wide-ranging, with solid coverage on France, Italy, and Spain, and a notable focus on Georgia and Hungary. It's very approachable for novices and it's not hard to find something you'll like; waitstaff is also helpful. Wine snobs may quibble, but budding oenophiles will be pleased to find familiar faces and a few new but not too niche strangers. Some sustainable producers though Jadis doesn't seem to be chasing the natural wine wagon like everyone else in town. A group of friends and I were going to meet after work to get some dinner at the nearby Gentleman Farmer and I had some time to kill so when I saw Jadis' sign for their $5 glasses of wine for happy hour, I was sold. When you step down into Jadis, you walk into a place with a blend of history with a modern touch. Carved out of space in an old building on the Lower East Side, the exposed brick, arches and wood give an old world feel while their lounge like seating, dark colors and decor speak to a more modern, whimsical sensibility. For me, it was instantly comfortable. I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of white wine and their garlic sausage platter. I thought the sausage was going to be cooked, but it's actually a cold sausage sliced up and served with slices of bread and a small salad. Each component was tasty on its own. The sausage lived up to its name and the bread had a nice crisp to it. The salad had a sweet balsamic dressing on it. When combining all three ingredients, they formed a truly tasty dish! This was a perfect small plate for me to nosh on while waiting for friends. It went nicely with the wine and the atmosphere was totally chill and comfortable. Definitely worth a visit! read more

It's tucked away on a street that is all but closed off to cars right now so it was fairly quiet sitting outside which was nice. If you order any single cheese or meat, you get a pretty decent spread with bread and an assortment of toppings / spreads. Of course, the wine selection is not to be left out of the discussion here. Chose two somewhat randomly, a red and a white, and really enjoyed them both. They were fun and unique and most importantly, affordable. Jadis is truly a hidden gem, nestled in a side street between Chinatown and the LES. My friends made it in time for happy hour (Monday-Sunday 5-7 PM) and scored some nicely priced drinks. I had the grapefruit Sangria (HH $6) which was fruity and refreshing. We also ordered the following to share: -Oven roasted tomato brushetta -Escargots -Bacon wrapped scallops -Mushroom truffle risotto puffs -Alsacienne tarte flambee (bacon, onions & creme fraiche) -Charcuterie board w/ duck rillettes, duck liver mousse, gruyere & camembert Everything was really tasty but my favorites were the brushetta, risotto puffs, and the tarte. The charcuterie board looked small but it lasted two rounds of full bread baskets. One thing to note it that on the menu the charcuterie board was $22, but we were charged $23. Not a big deal, but not sure where the $1 came from. Overall, we had a really nice happy hour/dinner here. The space was intimate but inviting and it never got crowded during the night. The wine happy hour was a pretty good deal, each of us ordered some food and they are pretty delicious as well. One star for the food & drink, one star for our server. She is actually really nice. My feeling for this place dropped down when we went to our server and asking her if she can get ready the birthday cake we brought with us. We were told there will be a $15 charge (add 20%, so that's $18) for them to "serve" the cake, aka take the cake out of the box, put the candles (we brought) on the cake, bring out the cake, serve the cake. At a place makes $10 sandwiches and salads! Wish I could make money that easy! Of course we said no in the beginning, then the lady told us we can take the cake back if we don't want to pay for it. But what else can I do? Our server explained that they charge for us having outside food here. IT WAS A FREAKING BIRTHDAY CAKE!! Does Jadis offer birthday cake there? NO! I also appreciate that they allow you "save seats" for your late friends so we were able to hang out all night with friends coming in and out. Came here on a Thursday night with some friends. They had one table available for indoor dining right by the window. The rest were outdoors under a patio. There were about 6 or so tables, and only two heat lamps. We were here for about 45 minutes to get a quick drink before heading for us dinner reservation. The wine was good. Burrata was great. The cheaper of their wine selections was a few dollars off for happy hour and it started to snow. So before getting onto the f train it became necessary to have said glass of $4 wine. On Mondays by the way, all wine bottles that are over $30 is 30% off. The flavor of the truffle oil was magnificent but the macaroni or the cheesiness wasn't great. It was crunchy and dry and I just tasted truffle oil.
