Nothing special about the wine or food menu. They try to upsell you - for example a wine bottle isn't available but an earlier version of it IS - but that you have to "upgrade." It should just be given at the same price then if it sold out... Service was subpar. The server walked away while I was mid-sentence of an order and disappeared for a long time. Had to ask for the check multiple times. The food was mediocre - nothing we were very impressed by. Also my friend said the server swung the door open on her while she was waiting for the restroom and instead of apologizing for hitting her, told her it was a bad place to stand. The only positive I'll say is that it's a cute ambiance for a date. I'm usually willing to return to a restaurant in NYC but this definitely isn't one of them. read more

I've been here twice now. Both times there were no specials that other reviewers claim to have been offered. Or at least we weren't told of any. There is nothing on the menu that is actually "cooked to order". It just a collection of charcuterie boards, salads, and a couple of bruschettas. More of an assembly process than a restaurant. There are no proteins to add to the salads. They only serve wine and beer, no mixed drinks. The space itself is very small with a 4 seat bar. The portions are ok, easily shareable between 2 people. I found it somewhat on the expensive side. If you go in not expecting a full menu with entrees I guess you won't be disappointed. read more

Tried some wine by the glass, it was pretty basic. Stuff gorgonzola dates prosciutto was served cold sadly, otherwise I've always loved it when I tried. Octopus for $27 but it was most likely half leg only with celery and potatoes. Safer to stick with cheese and charcuterie board it seems. read more

Sorso was awesome!! Went there for a book club/girls night and we stayed until it closed. The food is delicious and the wine we had was very easy to drink. It's a little pricey but I think it fits the quality. Cozy chill chic vibes. Great for a girls night, but also a great date spot. read more

Sorso is definitely an underrated gem in the University place area! Beautiful decor, delicious Aperol spritz and bruschettas. My friends and I had reservations for 7 pm on a Tuesday evening. It was fairly empty when we were there which was a pleasant surprise. They had a great selection of food and drinks but, because we had dinner reservations for another place, we decided to just get a drink and appetizer that night. I would definitely love to come back here and try more of their food and drink menu. read more

Great wine happy hour! This place is super cute and offers a daily happy hour from 5:00 - 6:00pm. The deal is two glasses of wine for $20 or $15 for a glass of wine and piece of bruschetta. The bar is small and only seats 4, however, there are some casual seats near the windows and then tables for dining. I didn't try the food but the menu looks great! Amazing wine selection. The sommelier Michael is very friendly and knows his stuff. He took our lead and chose a bottle that fit exactly what we were looking for (the Sanct Valentin Sauvignon)! This is a hidden gem on University. It's quiet, unassuming but the food is outstanding. Had a bruschetta and wrapped stuffed dates - incredible. The roast beef is light and delicious and the specials - which often change - are so so good - delicate, lovely composed dishes. The service is relaxed and welcoming. I might have just had the wrong impressions of what this place was but it seems to be like a wine bar with some food for snacks. The parts that sorta make it weird to me is that the selection of wine or the selection of foods is kinda limited on both spectrums. I would have expected far more wines by the glass options if it was truly a bar and the foods having appetizers and mains also is misleading if you're not a restaurant. The part that was good for this was that I met friends and the restaurant was amenable to people socializing there. What was weird was that at about 10pm the server seemed to want people to leave so they could close, which seems to be pretty early for a wine bar in new york. read more

Extremely rude female bar tender. Screamed at me when I asked to use the bathroom and she said " we call it the library here!" I'm like "Okay" I don't care what it's called just don't yell at me! So much attitude from the hostess. Food is unimaginative. I wanted to like it but the bar area is minute, the menu boring and unoriginal, small restaurant filled with dim lighting. My friend and I had a lovely dinner at Soros' on 10th St and University Place. The food is inventive and an original blending ingredients. Slow cooked eggs with pumpkin sauce, salmon ceviche with coconut milk and cilantro were my favorites while my friend loved the tuna tartar with avocado....The wine was wonderful and we were able to taste 3 different white wines before we made our decision. The staff are welcoming and you can tell by the way the food is tastes that Chef Maikol Fior takes pride in his cuisine and wants his customers to enjoy the meal as much and he enjoys preparing his culinary delights...I also look forward to Sorso's expanding their kitchen so they can also serve appetizers and entrees cooked in an oven! read more

Food and wine were great, however a bit of a communication problem. Had booked for a special valentine day's prix fixe menu advertised as having vegetarian options for each course. Turned out the non-meat options were all fish. I explained fish wasn't vegetarian and our server rapidly communicated with the chef who offered us veg options for each course which were absolutely delicious. The wait staff were attentive without being obtrusive and the chef to came our table, and other tables, to make sure we were enjoying the food. We happened in here on a Saturday night, were able to be seated right away. It's hard to read their menu from outside, because the windows fog up (; Anyway, we had a great meal, a couple different bruschettas, an eggscelent (sorry) soft poached egg dish, a charcuterie plate, a superb beef tartare. And the chef convinced us to get a taleggio risotto with truffles, which was amazing (and not too expensive). The only thing to know is that it's a wine bar, so they don't have any hard liquor. An incredible gem. I made reservations online for a party of five. We were sat right away. Intimate, charming ambience and impeccably clean. We ordered the mango-passion sour mocktinis and bitburger beer from the drink menu. They were so good we ordered another round. Our party tried the Tropical Hamachi Yellowtail Carpaccio, Insalata Giulio Cesare e Gamberetti, Salmone Marinato and Roastbeef all'Inglese. We all ate from our own plates and (of course) sampled the others. IT WAS DELICIOUS. The highlight of the meal was the Tiramisu'. It was light and creamy and a little bit of folksy decadence in a jar. Chef came out as we were eating and told us that the Tiramisu' is his grandmother's recipe. read more
