A gorgeous sushi spot on Bedford Ave with a variety of Japanese offerings. They feature 'noodle soups', noodle bowls, sushi, and plenty more. The nigiri I got was super tasty and tasted fresh. Keep in mind that one order of nigiri comes with one piece, while the sashimi will include two pieces. My noodle soup bowl was HUGE- lasted me a really good amount of time while socializing. The indoor and outdoor/ backyard seating were super nice. We opted to sit in the backyard, which had ambient lighting and a bar as well. The staff were super engaging and courteous, which we appreciated. They were quick to offer their recommendations and quick with service as well. The premises is clean and very, very nice regardless of where you sit. It was nice and quiet and not too crowded on a Friday night. read more

Always pleasantly greeted by their staff. They have a cute outside area that is even heated during the winter. The quality of the fish is top notch. I always judge based on their quality of UNI. And they never disappoint. Their lunch special is such a steal for the quality. And the service is fast and friendly. My 6 year old was first introduced to sushi here as a child. And we haven't stopped coming. The waitress, Diana, is such a doll. She is consistently friendly and always checks in. This will always be our go to sushi in the area. read more

On one of the hottest and humid days of the year, the right answer was sushi. This spot has a really cute backyard/enclosed patio situation that is dog friendly, and they had a projector for the World Cup! For appetizers, we got the smoked salmon carpaccio and the agedashi tofu which were very well seasoned and dressed. Sushi tasted very fresh and the tofu was the perfect crisp. For the entree, we got the spicy girl roll since there were a ton of various nigiris included and it was a very solid group of flavors in each bite. Everything was up to standard and pretty delicious. read more

Oh boy. Their sushi was not fresh and looked to almost be spoiling. We had to send it back. The waitress was nice about it and we ended up enjoying seafood udon and tempura. Shame on the "chefs" for trying to serve us old sushi. Standards need to be elevated if they want to stay in business. Great location. Great back patio. read more

Reasonably priced sushi for good quality. I got a combo deal of salmon, tuna, California rolls and my friend got a hand roll and scallop roll and we both enjoyed. The appetizer was a highlight. There's a back patio space. Walked in on a Saturday evening with no wait! read more

This place has always been solid, consistent and convenient (right off the L). And after many many years, that's never changes. Something I love is that they do the specifics well. So the ikura and uni are fantastic without overcharging. The staff is attentive, and the vibe of the place is casual, welcoming, perfect for a solo meal, friend meetup, or date night. With Lu. J I get the pot of green tea. With dinner- the hot sake. It's not high end but it certainly scratches that sushi itch! read more

I'm visiting from LA for the weekend, and I'm so glad I found this sushi stop. I ordered the Philadelphia roll and the hand roll with peanut, avocado, and asparagus. Both were absolutely delicious, and you can get them in a cut roll and /or hand roll (cone). Excellent service. They also have a garden in the back if you would like to sit outside. read more

The restaurant is really cute! We came around 6:30pm on a weekday and were seated instantly. There is lots of indoor seating and patio seating (with a ceiling) and the ambiance is great! The bathroom is also clean. The sushi came out pretty quickly and tasted delicious! Prices are fairly reasonable. read more

We stopped by Ako for a quick lunch and had: - Sushi Lunch: $16; $17.42 with tax - Toro Dynasty Roll: $20; $21.78 with tax Both dishes were underwhelming. The Toro Dynasty Roll only had sriracha mayo to add a dimension of flavor. Suggested tips are based on pre-tax subtotals and start at 20%, which is a bit high since there wasn't complementary tea. Overall, it feels like better options are available elsewhere. read more

What great service that they have here. Every time our water was low, it was filled to the top. Pretty good. The waiters came by frequently to attend to whatever it might be. However, I doubt that you need to make reservations as there's plenty of seating in the back space or in the main dining area. Food wise, I ordered the spicy seafood soup, which was alright. It's only for one person, as it's not a huge serving.the Golden Dragon roll was pretty good as the mango taste stood out. The classic roll combo was all of the items that sushi places all have. The matcha tiramisu tasted great as it's a combination of both desserts that I enjoy. read more

Food and service are excellent. Great neighborhood place we go or order in all the time .

No frills, but solid sushi spot. Service was quick and friendly, and they never miss out on the details. Had some sushi pieces a la carte as well as some rolls. Also tried an order of the rock shrimp appetizer which came with a creamy spicy mayo sauce. Only thing is their outdoor seating smelled a bit funky.. granted we are outdoors but maybe it should be a little bit more well kept? read more

The fish was not fresh at all it tasted very fishy and I've been eating sushi since I was 7 And the rice was super hard like it refrigerated or old. The staff also stopped me on my way out of the restaurant because they wanted more than 10% of tip then proceeded to let the door hit me when i reclaimed that I did tip the staff started to raise her voice at me. I will never be coming back here I do not recommend. read more

Ako is a great spot for inexpensive sushi and lunch sets slap bang in the middle of Bedford Avenue not far from the subway. I first came here by default when the restaurant I was planning on going to was closed and I've now been back many times. The room is pleasant with well spaced tables and there's a great seating area out back in the garden. The servers are friendly. The lunch sets are great value, they have a few types to choose from, not just the standard bentos and the portions are generous. There's a good variety of fish available and it's well prepared, rice is good too. Love it for a quick lunch! read more

Go to take out in Williamsburg. Cute backyard as well. Sushi and sashimi is always fresh. Special rolls are fun.

Yummy sushi and great cocktails. Perfect for a pre going out dinner. Good location too

We came here one rainy Sunday afternoon, thankfully their backyard area is covered with a transparent roof and we were able to hear and see the raindrops, we found it whimsical! Since I have not had a bento box in months, I ordered it to see what is their take on it. I selected salmon teriyaki bento. They first served a veggie salad with ginger dressing followed by miso soup. The bento box came with 4 pieces of California roll, 2 pieces of fried siomai, white rice, and salmon teriyaki on a bed of mixed greens. I thought the serving was generous for $13, and it didn't compromise the quality nor the taste. On our way out, I told our server that we will come back next weekend. With great customer service and price points, who wouldn't?! read more

Sigh, Im sad I have to leave this review but I was pretty disappointed with the sushi. First off I didn't think the salmon tasted very fresh and sadly there were flies all throughout the restaurant. On top of the fish feeling a little chewy, their rice was dry and cold. Usually sushi rice is warm and soft and not chewy either. They comped one of the two rolls we ordered that we didn't like. Although, that was nice - I feel like both of our rolls should have been comped. The only roll that we enjoyed was the tempura shrimp but would not recommend if you are looking for good sanitary conditions + fresh sushi. Service was quick and easy though! read more

I've only ordered delivery from Ako so I can't speak to their dine-in experience, but the sushi here is really solid and not too expensive. I've gotten the spicy roll combo a couple times now and it's a great variety at a good value, as you get 6 pieces of spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, crunchy spicy salmon all in one. The crunchy spicy salmon is by far the best one in the combo though!! read more

Ako was such a great find!! Stopped in for a very late lunch after having a very late breakfast so I didn't order much but I was really thrilled with my sushi roll. It was some of the freshest, tastiest sushi I've had in a while-- salmon was absolutely buttery. Would love to come back and try some more off the menu and sit on their beautiful back patio! (12-19-22) Update-- I returned for dinner this evening and was able to be seated on their back patio right away! It was a little cold but they have heaters so wasn't unbearable. The vibes in the back garden are soo cute and chill, I loved the attention to detail. And food was just as good as I was expecting, I really enjoyed my sushi rolls. Also was pleased to see that their happy hour goes past 6 pm because we ordered some wine when we arrived around 6:30 and were charged the happy hour price! Service was lovely and food came out in good time. New fav sushi spot! read more

My other half and I have not had sashimi since COVID-19 began to reach its peak in NY. Now that restaurants are opening doors again, we decided that it was time to treat ourselves to some long-awaited Japanese food. We were in Bushwick and found Ako on Yelp, then gave a shrug and said "good reviews, why not?" We ordered from the lunch specials, including 3 rolls for $15, a chirashi, sushi & sashimi lunch and a shrimp avocado roll for my LO. Quite honestly, we both felt that the fish can be a little fresher. It wasn't foul smelling or inedible, but could've been better. I wouldn't be surprised if it resulted from slow turnover due to COVID, which would make a lot of sense and is understandable, but still. On another note, I tried the shrimp avocado roll that I bought my daughter and it was sweet! As if sugar was added type of sweet! Not how I like my makis... I hope things are better after COVID but our take-out experience was only meh. read more

Very great vibes at this restaurant with very friendly service. Came here with my date after scouting the area for different sushi places. What caught my attention was the back patio sitting area. When I called to make a reservation, I was told that the patio area wasn't that hot at nighttime, but sadly we were dripping as soon as we sat down and we had to move indoors which is fine. Just beware in case you're a drippy girl like me! The food was really yummy. Got the Rock Shrimp Tempura to start off. It was very warm, crunchy, and full of flavor! Then we each got a roll and then one to share. Really like how they placed it all in one plate so we didn't have to deal with 3 different plates. The Pink Lady Tempura Roll was very yummy, but it did not have enough spicy strawberry cream. The Spicy Girl roll was great since it had different fish toppings so it felt like a new roll each time. I tried one roll for the Lobster Rock 'n Roll rolls and it was meh, not my fave but i'm also not a lobster girl. Overall pretty good, very nice ambiance, and yummy sushi :) read more

Food was good. Service and staff were great. Sushi is not expensive some of the entrees are though

Always on time for pickup. Selection is pretty good for sushi. I usually go for their lunch specials as it is the best deal for sushi when I want a tempura roll during lunch. Their ambiance is really nice as it has a Japanese feel with the food furnishing. When I have sat down before for dinner, they were very quick and made sure that we had all that we needed. Their bento boxes are really good too! I mainly go here for the sushi, but what I like is that the bento has options to come with sushi. Some places don't have that, but this place does! read more

I've had Ako a few times, but it's pretty hit or miss. I typically get their spicy roll lunch special, and while the tuna is always great, the scallop and salmon rolls have consistently been overwhelmingly fishy. I've also tried the shrimp spring rolls, which are really good, as well as the shumai, which were really tiny and disappointing. Ultimately, there are stronger options for sushi in the area. read more

Solid sushi spot in Williamsburg. I went with a friend around 8 PM on a Sunday night and we were seated right away in their outdoor garden area. I ordered the spicy roll combo, with spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, and spicy salmon for $17. It came with a miso soup or salad. Was impressed by the sushi, nice and fresh! Also got the purple potato fries with matcha mayo as an appetizer - this was good! Would recommend. Service was slow at times and one of my friend's rolls came much later than the rest of our food but overall, it was a good experience. Would come back again! Safety measures: hand sanitizer is available and there are barriers set up between adjacent tables. read more

We decided to check out some new (for us) places in Williamsburg and went to Ako. Based on Yelp reviews and our expectations it was a disappointment. Nothing was really good. We ordered Miso soup - was just ok. Tuna Tartare - wasn't even ok. Yellowtail tartare - was just ok. Rock shrimp tempura was just ok Sashimi Special - all fish was definitely fresh but half of it was tasteless. Rolls - Seafood Dynamite, Kamikaze and Tuna Lover was not good. On another hand, service was great. Also, we were sitting not far from a door to the outdoor section and every time servers were opening it, it was very cold. Sadly can give more than 2 stars. We definitely won't come back. read more

stopped here for lunch and it was great! i got the tofu teriyaki bento box, and the server was kind enough to ask if i was a vegetarian (i am), point out that one of the sides was not veg friendly, and offer to swap it out. much appreciated!! the bento box came with the tofu, swapped-out veggie gyoza, two avocado and cucumber rolls, and white rice. i didn't love the gyoza, but everything else was wonderful, especially the tofu, which was perfectly crispy yet soft and coated in an absolutely delicious sauce. a little pricey, but the tofu was worth it!! read more

I really enjoyed Ako, coming here several times during my visit to New York. Really high-quality fish, and really pleasant servers and managers. Highlights were the tuna tatami, which was extremely rich in flavor and almost like a tender rare steak. I also enjoyed the Aburi Trio, which is three lightly flame-seared nigiri sushis, each with their own topping. Really delicious. Just okay! We came here and ate outside, they have heaters and cute string lights, but the photos through Yelp made the place look much cuter... We had three dishes, the golden dragon, the toro dynasty, and the shrimp tempura...it took about 25 minutes before our sushi rolls came out - the shrimp tempura was good, but the other rolls were just kind of bland.. our waitress was very sweet, but I still don't think we'll be coming back.
