My kids were ravished and wanted West Indian food. I've gone to Vee's in the past and it was close to the eye doctors office we just left. After being there for 2 hours I figured that would be the best option. I quickly regretted coming here. I saw three people stand on the line way AFTER ME standing close to people unmasked. i ordered our food and waited, and waited and waited as 5 other customers I ordered beforehand picked up their food and headed out. i only ordered a curry chicken with rice and peas and a side salad and the other order was a small fried chicken with rice and peas and oxtail gravy. When I went to ask when my order would be ready. The cashier said, "oh boy I forgot to put in your order!" wide eyed I asked for a refund and then she says, "Sorry your food is coming out right now" of course that was a lie. 10 mins later the owner brings out the food. My kids were so hungry we grabbed a corner table with a juice and water to stay. After sanitizing the table and then my kids they dug in. My daughter said she would never tell me no again if I suggested someplace else. Personally i wanted to go to Vivvid on Ave D. I promise I won't be retuning to Vee's. You've been warned! We have been longtime supporters of Vee's restaurant, from the time of her original location on Nostrand between Montgomery and Empire (even prior to the expansion). My family has always enjoyed the food, leaving her restaurant as a reliable, affordable, and easy option for dinner after busy evenings. With this history, Vee's has been a well-loved staple in my household for Jamaican food in the area. My only qualms come in the current location, which offers less than half of the dining room space offered before(not on the fault of the business at all). As Vee's remains a staple in the community, her large dining room capacity was a highlight of coming, the ability to enjoy a meal in the establishment being a large drawing point to patrons. We still know of people who continue to dine-in at the current location, however this was a main attraction for my family's continued presence. Hopefully in the future, she can look to expand the size of her restaurant once more. Besides that, it is the same great service and flavor under Ms. Vee's ownership that kept us coming for years. read more

I decided to try this restaurant while I worked in the area. The restaurant is very clean and there is COVID supplies like hand sanitizer available for guests. At my first visit I purchased the jerk pork lunch special. Every component was well seasoned and flavorful. The lunch special seemed small but the container was packed. I'm happy to report that they secured a new spot up the street just north on Nostrand near Carroll Street. I was really fiending for some good jerk and at a place that I could get out of the cold to sit down in. I ordered the jerk pork with rice and peas, cabbage, plantains, a small salad, and a Mountain Dew. You order at the counter and pay, then your staff will deliver the food to your table. It was doing good business with I stopped in from the cold. I like that they have a station to load up on napkins, which also had little plastic sauce containers to take some hot peppers and carrots to put on your meal. I'm big on pepper sauce and fresh peppers on my food. The eat-in food is served on plates and silverware, like most restaurants. The rice and peas were piping hot and tasted fresh. The jerk pork was moist and had just the right heat to it. For $10.49, you can't really go wrong. It made me wonder why I hasn't stopped in before. I don't often leave reviews, but this experience warranted one. I used to frequent Vee's Jamaican restaurant back when they were on Nostrand and Montgomery, dating back to the 90's. I recently moved to Florida and I'm here in NY visiting. I was in the mood for some stew peas, I went on Uber eats and Vee's popped up. I ordered from them couple weeks ago and was a little disappointed that the tomato in their salad was spoiled, and it made me lose my appetite, even though the food was good. However, tonight I said, "let me give them another chance". As a restaurant owner myself I understand there are times an order is not going to be 100% perfection. Anyway, put in my order with Uber eats, paid tip and booking fees, my total was damn near $40. I order 2 large stew peas and a small Fried chicken dinner. When the stew peas arrived my husband and I looked at each other and wondered if they made a mistake. I called Vee's and the person on the phone confirmed it was indeed stew peas and she is the one that packed it. So now we are here wondering what to do with this food. It isn't authentic Jamaican stew peas. We attempted to eat some, after 2 to 3 bites, I called back the restaurant and told them there's no way we can eat this. It also had ginger and my husband is allergic to ginger. The person on the phone told us we can come back, and they will change it to something else. When I arrived (Which I had to take the train there, another $2.75) The person who was answering the calls left for the night. I specifically asked her, are you sure they will replace this food? I got there and the owner asked me what is the problem? I explained to her this does not look or taste like stew peas. She said well it is. So I told her I don't like it and it has ginger in it and my husband is allergic. The little old hag started raising her voice at me, and told me she is not going to replace it, she then asked me if I know how to cook? I remained calm, as this old Bat insulted me in front of her customers. So I left the food there, she and her staff can eat it. So unfortunately, in these hard times I just donated $40 to vees. Your food sucks and you will not see my family and friends there again. Maybe after 20 years its time for you to resign, close up shop and call it a day. When the place wasn't especially busy, several workers didn't take my order and didn't acknowledge my existence. At least one customer who arrived after me was deemed worthy of service. The food is always good and hot. The prices per portion size are honestly a great deal compared to other West Indian restaurants. Dishes are prepared somewhat more rapidly than other West Indian restaurants that I have tried, so you aren't waiting 20 minutes for your order. They also tend to do a pretty decent job of not running out of food before the end of the night which seems to be one of the biggest issues that you face when you visit these types of restaurants later in the evening. The customer service is typical for the Brooklyn West Indian community (take that however you want). The jerk chicken is very good. It's a nice dry run applied to the chicken and not an overly saucy non- authentic taste and feel. The curry goat is also a must try. I'm a big fan of sweet plantains but I must say that there's are very average. They're not bad but not as good some other places that I've tried.
