Came here with the family on a summer Saturday afternoon and sat in the covered patio extension. It had an old school, old eclectic diner feel, with Christmas decorations still up where we sat. That gave us pause, but we were sat right away in the middle of lunchtime in a full house, so we felt fortunate - and we were famished! Service was quick, efficient and polite! We ordered the BLT, Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and 2 and 2 egg, sausage and pancakes combo. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. My son didn't put syrup on his cinnamon roll pancakes, which is almost unheard of but always a good sign. The BLT was loaded with bacon, and the sausage was thick and flavorful. This review is for take-out. I ordered a mushroom and cheese omelette with home fries and turkey sausage on the side. They gave only one sausage split down the middle and for 8$... I can walk to the grocery store and get a whole pack of sausages for that price. Everything was severely under-seasoned and dry. And the home fries had a strange chemical aftertaste. I'm pretty saddened by my delivery experience since I've gone in person and had their sweet potato pancakes and was blown away by how moist and fluffy they were. We made the mistake of both ordering an eggs dish + french toast/pancakes, and were stunned to see so much food come out and weren't getting close to finish. Food was decent; the scrambled eggs came out more like a omelet (??) and fries tasted frozen but the pork sausage was pretty good. French toast I felt wasn't particularly special and even if I wasn't already so full likely wouldn't get it again. They have a bit of outdoor space as well but it was a soggy Saturday so we opted for inside. We had: My friend - streusel pancakes - 10/10 the minute I bit into this pancake I realized I made the wrong choice. The pancake was light and sweet even without syrup. Me - BBQ blue burger - 7/10 - it was juicy and the size was worth the price for sure. I give it a 7/10 because it wasn't a meal and the burger could've been seasoned better. I had always wanted to try Tom's. Not the one in Coney Island, but this one, here in Prospect Heights! The vibe is very old school, 1960's greasy spoon, with letterboard signs and a long breakfast bar countertop. There are tables for sitting at as well, in case you plan on having a group of people dining in. The food has an old school taste to it as well. Humongous pancakes that are fluffy and full of that flavor that only a greasy spoon can create. Two is the perfect amount. Three might work, but after that you are asking to be put in a food coma. The bacon (I got turkey) is thick and juicy and plentiful. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The eggs are a bit runny but taste good as well. Pretty hard to screw up eggs, but I have been to restaurants where they have, so never say never. The rest of the menu items look completely satiable. Pricey, but I could eat the whole menu if not for the fact I am not made of money and am mortal, just like the rest of you (sorry if I offended the robots). Now if only they took credit cards, I would be here almost every weekend (disregarding it takes two trains for me to get here). The greeter was super nice, we were able to seat ourselves in a booth in the back and the decor is what you'd expect in a diner that's been been around since 1939 -- funky and interesting. I had no idea I was walking into a legend of a diner. This place is absolutely top notch and has quickly risen to my favorite diner I've been to. A few things to keep in mind, it's a walk in type place and you might have to wait upwards of 30 min. It's also cash only but they have an ATM inside. That being said, this old school joint is absolutely a bucket list worthy place. I was feeling adventurous and went with the cinnamon roll pancakes, an iced coffee and home fries. Wowie-wow-wow. Those pancakes are dreamy, decadent and worth blowing away my calorie goals for the week. The attention to detail of adding the swirl on the actual pancakes while keeping their fluffy but rich texture is just amazing. They also offer multiple types of butter to pair with your sweet dishes. Just amazing. I also really enjoyed my home fries as they were well seasoned and it was nice to break up some sweetness with a bit of savory. The service was amazing and so friendly. I loved the strudel pancake and the sweet potato waffle and I also liked the corned beef hash, its the best I've had in a very long time. Portions are large so best to share. If I'm ever feeling nostalgic for old school traditional American food I'll be back! They have lots of tables and seat you pretty quickly. I had the Mexican omelette and definitely get the fries. They have the best fries in America to be honest. We got pancake, egg Benedict and something else. My husband and I were in the area and we were like, "OMG, that's the Seinfeld diner." For those who are fans of the show, you'll know that the exterior of Tom's was used at the exterior of Monk's but the actual interior was shot in LA. The fact that it's just a regular diner makes it all the more appealing I think. It's literally just like any other diner in the city, but it's the Seinfeld diner, so it makes it super popular. When we got there, there was like a 10-15min wait. The place was crowded AF. It is obviously super popular. We waited for about 15 min and were seated. Because it's a diner, service is super fast. And it obviously has a high turnover because the food comes out fast and they bus your tables really fast as well. It's impressive that they can serve so many people and remain efficient without messing anything up. I've had this brunch spot known for their pancakes on my list for a while. I finally had a chance to go with a small group of friends. We only had to wait a short time until we were seated in the back area for outdoor dining. There were still Christmas decorations up, which gave the place a fun, festive feel. The Hash Browns were too soft for me and the seasonings had a weird taste to them. The Danish Pancakes had zest of lemon, ricotta, Parmesan cheese, and blueberries. This was served with homemade flavored butters and maple syrup. They were delicious! There were yummy bits of blueberry throughout, which were juicy, as well as sweet, and slightly tart. There was strong taste of lemon and ricotta, which was a lovely mix. I couldn't discern much of the Parmesan flavor, but I didn't mind that. Crab cakes were simply delectable. They were delightfully crispy, well seasoned, with great crab taste. They came with a savory, spicy, and creamy remoulade sauce, which was so good that I kept dipping into it, even though it was too spicy for me. To end the meal, I had Tom's Famous Egg Cream - I chose the chocolate flavor. Despite the name, there is actually no egg in this drink. This cold beverage consists of milk, carbonated water, and chocolate syrup. It was topped with a beautiful dollop of whipped cream and heavy sprinkling of cinnamon. Mmmm. Quite tasty, very light and fizzy, just the right amount of sweetness, creamy and velvety smooth. Service was decent. The waiters were pleasant and kind.
