Was in the area almost missed it as I had to take some steps down. Was greeted right away I asked to use restroom. It was just me. I got coffee and the water came in a glass pitcher which I loved I didn't have to keep looking for someone to refill my cup. I got scrambled eggs with potatoes and bacon, whole wheat toast. The eggs were nice and fluffy. But no salt and pepper on the table. The bacon was nice and crispy how I like it and the potatoes. Omg delicious crispy and crunchy on the outside and so hot and soft in the inside. The butter for the bread came in an aluminum container never seen that before it spread so easily in the bread. Will definitely come again
I'd been to this diner over 20 years ago and came back since it's the only diner in the area. Firstly, it STUNK when we went to be seated -- almost like a bathroom cleaner or some old funky janitor's room! Then we saw the menu -- my fiance wanted a chicken parm sandwich but they couldn't even custom make that. The menu had very little to choose from. It's not terrible that they have the 1950s look and that classic diner feel, but the seats were uncomfortable and smelled also. We both had burgers. My finances burger was dry and small. I had the Montague Burger that was a little more juicy but the bacon they put on it was like leather straps laced with onions! The fries were just ok, kind of crumbly and the slice of pickle that came with it wasn't crunchy or freak -- it was wilted and tasteless. Sorely disappointed in the quality of air and food! I also heard the waitstaff talking, very nice servers and hostess, but most of them are NOT from NY and didn't grow up in Brooklyn when diners were the best places to grab a bite at midnight when you were coming home from the club. I feel like that takes away from the quality of the diner and experience we want as real native New Yorkers.
I love that when you walk in there's a place to hang your coat on the side. I immediately hung mine up and made my way to the party. I was a part of. We were contemplating getting alcohol alcoholic beverages so I got a mimosa. That mimosa... wow. We also added an orange juice because the ratio of champagne/prosecco to orange juice was not what I was expecting for a diner. But everything I deserved. The orange juice was so fresh and pulpy I loved it. I was having such a hard time deciding what to eat from the menu. I didn't know if I wanted breakfast or lunch or a mix or sides or everything. I eventually settled for the steak and eggs, which I've never ordered before had a diner because I'm a very big breakfast girl. You know- pancakes French toast, waffles, eggs, hot chocolate, the works. But I wanted to try something new because you know it's almost 2026 and why not?! I ordered a cappuccino and got my meal along with my mimosa and I've never been happier. I even bumped into a friend. So unexpected! And at the table behind us was a lady from Law and Order! Also unexpected! The server was fantastic. A really pleasant man. His suggestions were well received and well offered, and cannot wait to go back to this place and make it a part of my ritual of living. They close at either nine or 10 which I think is beautiful. Not too late, not too early. Although I would love an extended evening extravaganza one day, it is actually perfect the way it is. Can't wait to return! #yuckbangcertified
Typical diner food. The breakfast plates are an ok deal - I got the cheese omelette with added mushroom, tomato, spinach, and onions. It came with a small salad (spinach and arugula with some dressing) and a slice of toast. It's a decent portion for the base price of $17, but each vegetable addition is $1 *each* (this isn't clear from the menu). I also tried the pancake split, which sounds a bit more exciting than it is - basically just a pancake with ice cream on top. It's a fun idea. The total bill came to $51 with tax and tip, plenty of food for two.

Sat at a booth and enjoyed the eggs plate (eggs over medium with bacon - which was perfectly chewy and crispy) & a waffle. I might go on the record and say that this waffle is the best i've had in nyc...?? My server Sarah was really sweet and gave me the run down of choices to be made and i'm so glad I went with the waffle over the pancakes!! Although... i'm sure they are great too. Will absolutely be back and don't sleep on this diner!!

This classic basement level diner in Brooklyn is such a gem. We wandered in for brunch and were immediately seated at the counter and greeted by Peyton, who was incredibly attentive our whole visit despite the crowd. We enjoyed latkes and matzo ball soup, which were both fresh and well received post party hangover from the evening before. The crowd in the diner was mixed, from families to trendy kids, to a 50s themed birthday party. It's definitely not frilly, but the fast pace and crowded space made our first diner experience in the city super memorable and fun!
Thankful my friend was organised and made a reservation ahead of time. We were seated in the booth which kind of felt a bit squishy for three adults. The food was pretty good though. I was also able to swap out roast potatoes for tater tots, made my son very happy! Will definitely be coming back here again when I'm in the area. It's a solid brunch place!
A solid diner, I love coming here for date night. This is not your standard diner -- it reflects the neighborhood in the elevated vibe. I'm a fan of the French toast and the matzoh ball soup. Lots of families come here. Can be hard to get a table on a weekend night. My recommendation is to come for lunch!
Such a cute diner! You feel like you're transported in time! They offer breakfast all day along with some salads, sandwiches, milkshakes and typical diner food! I opted for the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup was so smol and I wish it was a little larger. The grilled cheese was exactly what I needed on a hungover Sunday. My boyfriend got the mozzarella sticks and the patty melt. Food is average, no complaints. You should stick to breakfast here and soak up the old nyc diner charm.
Really excellent. The grilled cheese and tomato soup were so great, and the pancakes were perfect for our kids. (One order was more than enough for them.) We also loved the latkes. Probably a bit behind S&P on the new-ish diner list for me, but this was excellent in its own right.
We'd just enjoyed a visit to the NYC Transit Museum and found this diner on yelp, so off we went, for lunch. Small place, but busy and really a throwback. Very cute. Two of us enjoyed the tuna melt. Just a slice of cheese you can barely taste, but a sandwich stuffed (!) with a really delish tuna salad. Their twist is to add pepperoncini. My friend doesn't like that, but I love it, so the waitress brought my friend's pepperoncini on the side so I added those pieces to my own sandwich that already had some - superb! My husband liked his regular grilled cheese sandwich, and our other friend (on a glp1) had a bowl of tomato soup and some toast. All in all, a decent diner lunch. In the back, they have 2 choices for restroom. One is only a urinal, the other a toilet, both clearly labeled. And clean, with sink inside each. Service was quick and friendly. read more
Food wise--everything is disappointing. The latke breakfast burrito sounds great on paper, but the latke was overcooked and burnt. The chicken and pancakes have no business being on that plate together. Maybe if the chicken wasn't tossed in a buffalo/vinegar-based sauce, it would work better. The meat wasn't tender either. The inside is cute. And the workers are peppy. But the food taints the experience. read more

Was staying about a 10 min walk away in Brooklyn and wanted some good breakfast food! They sat us down right away luckily and the inside was so cute and nostalgic looking. Straight out of an old movie. Ordered the Latke with smoked salmon, French toast babka, and breakfast sandwich with potatoes. The latke was cooked perfectly and had so much crunchy texture loved it with the smoked salmon and surprisingly liked the apple sauce paired with it too! They only serve the French toast babka on the weekends so definitely get it if you can the citrus whip is sooo yummy with the French toast. Would definitely come back again when I'm back in town! read more

Have only been going to Montague Diner recently but I have been loving every visit. So much so that I brought my wife for brunch the day after I tried it for the first time. The ambience is quintessential classic diner and the food and service goes above and beyond. What a neighborhood staple. read more
We made a rezzy for brunch Saturday at noon and our table was ready without any delay. The restaurant itself is sort of an updated, retro diner vibe, spacious, not super cramped, with small booths along one side and countertop seating on the other. The menu is stocked with standard diner dishes, and the ones we got were delicious. I got two eggs over easy with turkey, bacon, home fries, and toast while my husband got the steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce. My food was all cooked and seasoned well (some actually over easy eggs for once!) while my husband's steak was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned too. One of the best chimmichuri sauces I've had in a long time. His eggs were also exactly to order. Service was super efficient and friendly. I would absolutely visit again for another meal and look forward to doing so. read more

This place is a vibe. The interior is on point with a modern yet classic diner appeal. The food is a little pricey, but pretty good overall. The montague burger comes with a deliciously smokey bacon that sets the tone for said burger and their fries are your typical diner fries with a light coating for extra crunch. read more

Honestly 10/10. I don't totally get the complaints about it not being a diner. I mean it's NYC, but it's also a much better / higher quality so it's expensive for a typical diner. But to me it definitely still has diner vibes. And standard things like a bacon, egg and cheese is cheap at $9 so you can get a cheaper meal if you want. The host is fantastic - calm, well organized, kind! And was like that with everyone we watched him interact with after we sat down. I don't know I feel like thats rare in NYC so wanted to mention! We waited 30 mins for 2 people on Sunday morning at 10am without a reservation. As we were eating and leaving, I heard the host saying two people would be closer to 45 mins without a reservation. As a heads up, we couldn't order the dinner menu at 10:30am which like may be assumed lol but my fiance wanted the giant grilled cheese so if you're going for that viral grilled cheese, can't get at breakfast. We split banana pancakes and the syrup was really good! I got the steak and eggs per another yelp review and honestly the steak was really fricken good!! Seasoned and marinated soooo well! My fiance got the smoked salmon plate which came with a good amount of salmon and very satisfying! Overall we really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back for lunch / dinner! read more

Food was good, but it all seemed like it was trying too hard. To take over an old diner space and renovate to still try to evoke the spirit of an old diner space it was missing the grit and age that comes with time. Even at the bar there were chairs rather than the stools needed to really be more acurate. Unfortunately a lot of the actual old diners are closing and this may be the only types of option in the future, but creating a faux old-timey atmosphere and then charging more because it's new and requires a whole reservation system is not the way to go. There are still a handful of real diners in the area. Go there. read more
Fantastic f**king cheeseburger. One of the best I've had in NYC since I've moved out here. I got the Montague Burger and I've been thinking about it for about a week now. The cook they got on my burger was quite impressive. Perfectly medium rare in the center with a perfectly seared crust on the outside. Cheese was perfectly melted, and the bacon was unreal. Fries were hot and crispy, but they are your standard battered fries. Still not bad at all, and I loved that they bundle the burgers with fries. For $22, it was a fantastic value. It's about the same price as the burger at Clark's down the road, but Montague has better hours and feels more like a trendy cocktail bar at night than a diner. I can't wait to try other menu items, but right now, I'm fixated on that burger. read more

This is a cute place. I was psych to score a reservation on Resy. I had scrambled eggs, sausage and roasted potatoes and OJ. The ambience is cute. The service is great. The neighborhood is great. I would definitely recommend coming here. read more
