Had a very cute date night here. I've been to the Bedstuy location a few times and had meant to try this location for years. We'd just come from a show in Fort Greene and were looking for a last minute place to have a bite. It was a Thursday night in November so I didn't quite expect everywhere to be so busy! After putting our names on a waitlist for three nearby spots we were very much happy to be seated right away at Saranghina. It was also lively and near capacity with indoor seating but fortunately no wait. I enjoyed the coat check interaction at the front--it was a small detail that made it feel a tad more elevated for a regular night in Brooklyn. Had the gnocchi, Caesar salad and beets. Everything was delicious and exceeded expectations. The space itself has an older, wooden aesthetic which felt like historic Fort Greene and was charming. Overall, lovely experience on a Thursday night. read more

I ate dinner here with a friend, and I'm so happy we went! There weren't any reservations available for the time we wanted to eat at, so we tried our luck as a walk-in. Thankfully, they were able to seat us outside immediately! The weather was beautiful so outdoor seating was extremely comfortable. The staff was very attentive and answered all our menu questions. We ordered two pasta dishes, and they were both amazing! The menu doesn't mention it, but all of the noodles are house made. They were fresh, perfectly cooked, and deliciously seasoned. The restaurant is perfectly situated in cute Fort Greene with lots of cafes and dessert places nearby. Street parking is available, and there are several trains in the area. The restaurant is close to Barclays, as well. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I posted this on Google, where I leave most of my reviews, but reposting here because I think it's worth sharing on both platforms, and not a peep from ownership in response. I had a pretty wild experience with the manager a few months ago that I wanted to share and am hoping reaches the owners. It was admittedly a busy weekend in Fort Greene. Bright, sunny, lovely. Perfect for the dog parade happening. Not shockingly, lots of spots with long waits, so my friend and I were bopping around to see who could fit us in soonest. I came in alone to check since it's a sizable restaurant and was hopeful. The French gentleman at the host stand informed me they were booked. I wasn't surprised and was ready to move on to the next place. But he made sure to let me know that they were not only booked that day, but they'd be booked until March- MONTHS away. I actually didn't think twice about it initially. I literally congratulated him on their success before I walked out. When we finally found a spot a couple doors down, I shared with my friend about how in demand they were. He's the one who alerted me to the idea that it was unusual and very unlikely. I go to check online. Open bookings. Clear. Availability everyday. It's rare that I give a bad review. I like highlighting places that deserve positive attention. The restaurant industry is a tough one, especially these days. It's clearly been some time since this has happened, but it's stuck with me and I didn't want this to go without it being noted. The whole staff shouldn't be punished, but this shouldn't go unaddressed either. It's also rare that I feel slighted for how I look, which is why it didn't immediately strike me. We got a great table outdoors with no reservation last Saturday. Vibes were great at the restaurant, though the park across the street had a very loud gathering blaring music. Not the restaurants fault but worth noting! Our server Tommy was excellent. Attentive, accommodating and generally charming. They were out of bubbles so he let us try two different rosès, we split a bottle of the sancerre which was great. My pasta was good. We wrapped with creme brulee. It had a surprising lemon zest to it that I didn't love, but totally personal preference. read more

Came for dinner with a friend on a recent visit, and we were captivated by the cute outdoor seating. Even without a reservation, they were thankfully able to seat us quickly, and we indeed sat outside. It was a bit noisy with the street traffic, but that's hardly the restaurant's fault. Service was pretty good, though we felt a bit rushed. We decided to split the spicy burrata pizza and the wild boar tagliatelle. Both portions were a bit smaller than expected given the price, but the taste was very good! The pasta was nicely cooked and the ragú was rich and very flavorful. The pizza had a nice bit of kick to it, but as someone with a lower spice tolerance, I still really enjoyed it. read more

I've been here before for dates, solo dates , and catch ups with friends. I enjoy the cozy vibe, great food and drinks, and the service. Recently was my first time visiting for brunch and it did not disappoint. Though I am mad that I changed my mind last minute and didn't the order the ricotta pancakes (which are gluten free!), I have a purpose for returning for brunch very soon. My friend had one of the crostones and the plating was pretty. She devoured it. I had the calamari and a salad and devoured mine. Everything was so fresh and well seasoned. The service was great again too. Highly recommend checking this place out. The staff are friendly and the vibe is thoughtful casual. The place opened at 5 PM, and we were seated immediately even though we did not have a reservation. The restaurant's ambiance was a bit romantic but quickly filled up with people, so I suggest you get there early if you do not have a reservation. I ordered the Red Cavatelli pasta. Even though it had chile in it, it was not spicy. The portion was a bit on the smaller end and I was not the biggest fan of the pasta. The star of the meal was the Black Truffle & Mushrooms pizza. It was my first time having something like this and the black truffle was amazing on the pizza. I would highly recommend ordering this pizza! Oh everything here was laughably bad. Where to start... - I thought it would be a vibe to sit outside, but no, you're on a loud street with a hundred cars and buses to either listen to or look at. - A server plopped the scallop appetizer dish without saying a word. It was eerily delivered super early, even before our drinks came. The dish was TINY with 3 measly scallops for something that was TWENTY SIX WHOPPING DOLLARS. And one of them was cold. At this point I started taking pictures of everything because I knew we were headed for a rough dinner service. - Then my "elixir" drink came out. FWIW, the Golden Eye drink will taste like a Margherita pizza, and it'll mostly be ice. - Maybe 10-20 minutes later, the server comes by with the white wine glass. It smelled and tasted not good, almost rancid, although the label next to the name of the wine said "Light" - Then our pasta dish and pizza come out. As expected, the pizza is a small portion with mostly crust, but it's the only redeeming thing about this place besides the water. The pasta is fine but firmer than Al dente. - We waited an eternity to order the tiramisu. We did it for funsies. This tiramisu also was not good because the lady fingers were just so soggy. read more

Granted I am only rating this place for their early morning experience aka outside seating with coffee and their amazing croissants but I come here often and the barista + cashier is awesome and I always get to read The New York Times here for free. Their coffee is really genuine to taste of an Italian espresso + their macchiato- rich and dark but not bitter. Overall I think this place is a gem in this neighborhood and as a person who loves to relax and unwind in the mornings I can't recommend a better place. **** update: management cancelled the newspapers but I knew a lot of people who used them. Bummer they took them away but still a great place to sit and relax . read more

The manager tried to convince us not to eat here before we even got a table..? I'm assuming it was based off of how I look. Then I decide to just order a tea and to my absolute pleasure, they serve me Yogi tea. The menu clearly said it was some other brand, so I'm obviously surprised when I see the Yogi branded tea bag. $5 for Yogi tea is criminal. I have no desire to come back here. read more

I would have to agree with other reviewers. The service was bad, the space is cramped, and the food left something to be desired. The ingredients are top-notch, but the execution is not. Our Funghi pizza had an excellent blend of wild mushrooms and cheese, but the crust was puffy and limp. The cinghiale pasta featured great homemade pappardelle with a smattering of meat and a too-watery texture. The Meringata dessert was a beautiful construction of whipped cream and fruit worthy of a cookbook cover, but it was nearly flavorless. I felt priced out of the secondi dishes, with the dry-aged steak listed at $90, that's groceries for a week or two. Back to the service. It was great and attentive at first, but then we were utterly neglected. I asked for our dishes to be coursed out, but the first two were served together. Some of the waitstaff seemed genuinely irritated to be serving or assistant when I asked for something like a fork or a share plate. The people next to us felt equally as neglected and were irritated. This shouldn't be happening in a restaurant with these prices. It's a beautiful space, but the layout is baffling. A huge rounded marble raw bar creates two bottlenecks in the central arteries of the dining room leading to the exit and the kitchen. There's so many restaurants in this city, I have no reason to return here. read more

Been wanting to try this place as it just opened near my apartment. I came with my boyfriend on a Friday night around 745PM. The entrance is very tight and there was a small line to get to the hostess and it was just chaos in the front entry area. We were seated immediately though it seemed that tables of 3/4 were waiting a little. We sat in their front patio area where they had space heaters BLASTING. So much so that it was actually too hot believe it or not. Another table asked the waitress if they could turn it off and she did which was nice! We ordered a lemony salad (I don't remember the names and they do not seem to have a website so...) that was tasty, focaccia with ricotta and grapes (which was EXCELLENT) and penne vodka (that normally comes with lobster, but my boyfriend and i dont like lobster so we asked for it without - it was also cheaper without!) Our salad and focaccia came out quickly, but we were left waiting about 35 minutes for our penne vodka. The waitress was very kind and apologized before we even asked about it, but what happened next did not help their case. The penne came out ... not just al dente ... but nOT COOKED!!!! Al dente is one thing, extremely al dente is another, but I'm telling you this pasta was not cooked. The vodka sauce was delicious HOWEVER, I can make my own at home using Bon Appetit's recipe on their website (it tastes exactly the same.) All in all we decided we would maybe give it one more chance and try the pizza next time since the focaccia was so good, but I was not impressed and think it will be a while until we return. This is a fairly typical Brooklyn hipster-ish place. We did like it, though. Four of us (plus infant) came in for a Sunday brunch. We had reservations and were seated right away. Service was good. Again, typical for the area, it was on the small side and I felt a little cramped, but it did have some outdoor seating also. I had a mushroom omelet and an Americano. All the food was OK, not really great. Pricing was high, even for this part of Brooklyn. So, overall OK, but I would not seek it out again. read more

The food we ordered was good, once we actually got what we ordered. A friend and I came for dinner and ordered a few things to share. One of the entrees we ordered was the ravioli with pear and Gorgonzola. When they dropped it off it didn't look quite right and it tasted extremely fishy on the first bite. My friend then tried it just to be sure and she agreed on the fishy taste and it definitely not being what we ordered. Our waiter was perfectly nice about it and acknowledged that it was not, in fact, what we ordered. Soon after we got the actual dish which was good! Where it took a hard turn and why I am leaving this review is because after we paid the bill someone else stopped by the table to ask us what was wrong with the crab dish we received? And we said it's not what we ordered and he asked if we were allergic to crab, as if we were the ones in the wrong for wanting what we actually ordered. First off, insane that he had the nerve. Second, we didn't complain or make a situation out of their mistake at all. They also did not make any effort to amend the situation by way of discount or glass of wine. Instead some guy came out to guilt trip us for not eating their crab that, hand to god, tasted like tuna. read more

We went for an early dinner and the place was already lively and full! The interior is beautiful, with a classy bar if you want to stop in for a drink and quick bites. Outdoor seating also looked lovely. Nothing stuffy about the place - we sat with families with young kids, stylish friends meeting for drinks, and what looked like more romantic encounters. The drinks look wonderful! Though we only ordered the Aperol spritz (I was pregnant), we intend to go back when we can try more because everything read and looked great. Food was a big shining star everything was top notch. Delicious, cooked well, and creative flavors. I posted our favs. There are many Italian restaurants in this neighborhood and many have been here a long time. Saraghina will be a neighborhood favorite. The staff was professional, friendly, attentive, and available. This made the food and drinks flow nicely and no one in the place had a sad face. We will be back! read more

Incredible place. If you have not yet visited or heard of Saraghina please go ahead do so asap. The little piece of real Italy in the heart of Brooklyn. This place stays in the heart and will make you want to come back again and again and again. The service is flawless and the staff is super knowledgeable. The menu is crafted with such a immaculate taste, my compliments to chef for the food- its unforgettable. Try gin Rosa cocktail, so good. We had chicken which was delicious, and save yourself for desserts. Their version of napoleon is very unique and the presentation will impress you as well. Overall great experience, we are fans! If you want to be transported right out of this lovely neighborhood, deal with hostile service, and pay way more than the food or experience is worth then this is the spot for you. The best part of my meal was the Italian 75. They sat us at the crudo bar (do NOT let them do this to you- especially if you're having a full meal) where we were in the way, bumped into all night long, and yet somehow completely ignored by our server. The food? Greasy, flavorless focaccia. An utterly forgettable and teeny tiny plate of lobster ravioli. My friend had a bolognese that was described as "ok, I guess?" We definitely expected a little more given the prices. The lobster ravioli was $40, for instance. I will add that I like Saraghina in Bed-Stuy... but this spot misses the mark entirely. It's perplexing... who is this place meant for? It lacks the warmth of a neighborhood spot that you'd want to return to again and again. But yet here it is in the old Madiba space trying to be... I don't know. There is no shortage of Italian restaurants in this neighborhood where you'll have better food and cocktails and a much nicer experience. The tourists and folks willing to wait an hour and a half plus to throw their money away on this place can have it. read more

Gave this place a few more shots several months after my first review. They've improved their service (and hosts) immensely. Night and day since our first experience. They're a bit overpriced, but slightly-elevated-cafe is the vibe they're going for. I almost never leave a bad review. And it's complicated because there is so much to admire about this place. I went with a longtime local resident, to celebrate a huge achievement, the fruit of years and years of work. It was busy and attractive - and very noisy. The marbled floor tile and the mirrors make the acoustics, at least where we were sitting, atrocious. We were all yelling What and Excuse me every other minute. On the other hand, our waitress was absolutely lovely, funny and patient and ON IT. And most of the food was delicious. Splurgy but maybe worth it if you have it. Yummy raw bar concoctions, and fun. We had a nice time, but minutes after we ordered a desert and another cocktail, the host comes (was he even delivering the HEFTY check, or am I embellishing?) and leans in, with a confiding air - i thought he was going to ask for an autograph or offer us a taste of some rare Amaro or something but nah. He said something very like: "Hey guys, i have always wondered, what is the polite way to ask people to leave? Like there are other people waiting for your table." I said - well there is no polite way to ask that. And he repeated his rap as if I must have not understood him the first time because I wasn't moved by his perplexing position. We had barely finished, we had not done any lingering fer chrissakes just non stop stuffing ourselves and drinking heartily - in celebration - but this man's question brought me down. Harshed the old mellow. Is this normal, asking ppl to leave a fancy restaurant? I worked in restaurants for years. One polite way we might have asked ppl to give up their table when they'd barely finished would be to offer a round at the bar. Or some other charming gambit. Anyway. I like Saraghina-- I've been here a few times, and it has some good points but also be prepared for some shortcomings. The decor is great but tables are very very close together. Service is pleasant but can be slow so just be prepared for a more euro timed dining experience. Food wise, I loved the ricotta/grape on toast and the lobster ravioli. The Ostriche del Giorno and Amalfitana were amazing. To be honest, we actually ended up ordering another Amlfitana we thought it was that good. The Mondeghili (not pictured) was a tad dry but still very good, we especially enjoyed the sauce it came with. The Zucchine was under cooked and pieces varied in size substantially, the Cavoletti di Bruxelles was nothing special, and would not recommend the Ravioli Pere e Gorgonzola. Overall a nice vibe and would go back again for drinks and appetizers but less likely to eat a full dinner there. read more

Really terrific decor and ambiance. Doesn't feel like just another interchangeable Brooklyn restaurant. Our table wasn't ready on time but the host was very apologetic and comped us two glasses of Prosecco. Once we were seated the space felt cozy and bustling, but was still quiet enough that you could make easy conversation. Our waiter wasn't the friendliest guy in the world, and kept disappearing for long spells to chat to a table of girls about his budding career as an animator. And it took forever to get the bill...like 30 minutes. As for the food, the seafood risotto was delicious, though there's not a lot of it. The squid ink pasta with clams wasn't great. We finished with the chocolate soufflé, which was awesome. Oh and the salad we ordered cost $18 for some reason, which was very annoying. All-in-all, because I'm a sucker for atmosphere, I'll probably give this place one more chance. read more

Saraghina Caffe was built in the sacred tomb of the beloved Madiba restaurant. Many considered it sacrilege that anyone would dare attempt to breathe life back into that hallowed ground. But like the Lotus flower that emerges from the mud, a cathedral to culinary delights with the hipster vibe and sensibilities of a Milanese Café has stepped into the limelight of the DeKalb Ave foodie corridor. The Madiba ghosts have been set free by a successor that is proving worthy, and the proprietor, Eduardo Mantelli, has established that there's a new sheriff in town. Second time here at the cafe. While the pizza is obviously good the coffee shop is magic. Today the barista is super busy on a hot 90 degree sunday but she is crushing it, slaying drinks left to right. She kindly explained what a Shakerato was and made the tastiest drink. Thank you!
