Pancake Split
Vishnu G.

Typical diner food. The breakfast plates are an ok deal - I got the cheese omelette with added mushroom, tomato, spinach, and onions. It came with a small salad (spinach and arugula with some dressing) and a slice of toast. It's a decent portion for the base price of $17, but each vegetable addition is $1 *each* (this isn't clear from the menu). I also tried the pancake split, which sounds a bit more exciting than it is - basically just a pancake with ice cream on top. It's a fun idea. The total bill came to $51 with tax and tip, plenty of food for two.

A solid diner, I love coming here for date night. This is not your standard diner -- it reflects the neighborhood in the elevated vibe. I'm a fan of the French toast and the matzoh ball soup. Lots of families come here. Can be hard to get a table on a weekend night. My recommendation is to come for lunch!

stumbled across this spot just walking on montague street. What a cute hidden gem. The feel of the place is warm and cozy and I was greeted right when I walked in. Sat at a booth and enjoyed the eggs plate (eggs over medium with bacon - which was perfectly chewy and crispy) & a waffle. I might go on the record and say that this waffle is the best i've had in nyc...?? My server Sarah was really sweet and gave me the run down of choices to be made and i'm so glad I went with the waffle over the pancakes!! Although... i'm sure they are great too. Will absolutely be back and don't sleep on this diner!!

This classic basement level diner in Brooklyn is such a gem. We wandered in for brunch and were immediately seated at the counter and greeted by Peyton, who was incredibly attentive our whole visit despite the crowd. We enjoyed latkes and matzo ball soup, which were both fresh and well received post party hangover from the evening before. The crowd in the diner was mixed, from families to trendy kids, to a 50s themed birthday party. It's definitely not frilly, but the fast pace and crowded space made our first diner experience in the city super memorable and fun!

Thankful my friend was organised and made a reservation ahead of time. We were seated in the booth which kind of felt a bit squishy for three adults. The food was pretty good though. I was also able to swap out roast potatoes for tater tots, made my son very happy! Will definitely be coming back here again when I'm in the area. It's a solid brunch place!

Have only been going to Montague Diner recently but I have been loving every visit. So much so that I brought my wife for brunch the day after I tried it for the first time. The ambience is quintessential classic diner and the food and service goes above and beyond. What a neighborhood staple.

Such a cute diner! You feel like you're transported in time! They offer breakfast all day along with some salads, sandwiches, milkshakes and typical diner food! I opted for the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup was so smol and I wish it was a little larger. The grilled cheese was exactly what I needed on a hungover Sunday. My boyfriend got the mozzarella sticks and the patty melt. Food is average, no complaints. You should stick to breakfast here and soak up the old nyc diner charm.

Really excellent. The grilled cheese and tomato soup were so great, and the pancakes were perfect for our kids. (One order was more than enough for them.) We also loved the latkes. Probably a bit behind S&P on the new-ish diner list for me, but this was excellent in its own right.

You want nostalgia, good food, great service, and just a general vibe: come to Montague Diner. Drinks were refreshing to wash down some delicious diner classics. Also shoutout to whoever was on the AUX, unreal playlist that set the base to a lovely dining experience.

This place is a vibe. The interior is on point with a modern yet classic diner appeal. The food is a little pricey, but pretty good overall. The montague burger comes with a deliciously smokey bacon that sets the tone for said burger and their fries are your typical diner fries with a light coating for extra crunch.

Steak and eggs and eggs over easy. Missing from this picture is the chimmichuri sauce, but that came out a few seconds later.

We made a rezzy for brunch Saturday at noon and our table was ready without any delay. The restaurant itself is sort of an updated, retro diner vibe, spacious, not super cramped, with small booths along one side and countertop seating on the other. The menu is stocked with standard diner dishes, and the ones we got were delicious. I got two eggs over easy with turkey, bacon, home fries, and toast while my husband got the steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce. My food was all cooked and seasoned well (some actually over easy eggs for once!) while my husband's steak was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned too. One of the best chimmichuri sauces I've had in a long time. His eggs were also exactly to order. Service was super efficient and friendly. I would absolutely visit again for another meal and look forward to doing so.

The pancakes are amazing!!! Really fluffy w a slight crisp. So delicious. Wld skip the cold brew - just drip over ice and quite watered down for me

Great server and yummy pancakes. Cute retro vibes with fun upbeat instrumental music. Feels like you're somewhere way out of the hustle & bustle of the actual in walking distance Atlantic Ave. Nice selection of hot teas.

We were visiting from California and wanted a Brooklyn diner experience. The ambiance and decor were great but the food was bland.

What are you gonna get? Or maybe I should say WHO?…read moreAre you gonna get the doughy guy at the door who takes 15 mins to amble over to the host stand who can't seem to figure out how to seat you (even with a reservation?) Or are you going to get the professorial woman who acts like she could rescue Apollo 13 while mixing a dry martini while reading Joan Didion? Are you gonna get an airy twink as a server who wants to go back to Bushwick and lets you know that at every second, or are you going to get a serious experience with a focused, professional server. Ya never know. This used to be part of the charm, but now it's a liability because friends (and other chefs in the neighborhood) never want to go to Diner because...ya never know what it'll be. Diner has never coasted on continuity. They change up the menu every day. They write it on the paper tablecloth, for Chrissakes. But I still love that! I still find most of the food to be delicious (if pricey), I still think their cocktails are well-made (even if their bar is weirdly slow) and I love their brunch and I love the vibe, and I'm glad it's still here. Their Caesar salad is overrated, as is the burger, but they're always mixing it up. You could get lucky. Ya never know...

Cozy interior, but the concept seemed like...trying too hard to be different and hip...? Why do you make your waiters write down the menu on the table for each group of guests? Doesnt even save paper since those menus are not reused. And honestly, our waiter's handwriting was sometimes hard to read. Also, quite pricey. The crab pasta was $35, the celery root was also $35 (like what?!), the squash was $23, and the Caesar salad (not pictured) was $22. Service was friendly and knowledgeable on the food but slow.

But if you're looking for some excellent, straight forward, wonderfully crafted simplicity, this is in your wheelhouse. A quesadilla is a quesadilla, a hamburger a hamburger. Sounds boring? Not when your hamburger and quesadilla are amongst the best you've ever had at any diner, anywhere. Our waitress was very nice and allowed us to dine, unbothered. We ordered a fresh fruit platter for dessert. It included watermelon, mango, grapes, apples, strawberries, etc. very nice, well presented. The dining area certainly belies what happens in that kitchen behind the door. I'll be back to try some more simple, but excellent food.

This spot has a handful of tables and while we were there, quite a few to-go orders were picked up as well. Though we were the only diners, so I assume it's more of a breakfast/brunch spot. The menu is rather expansive with options from breakfast to lunch and dinner. After studying the menu, we opted for the Veggie Burger and the Meatball Parm Po'Boy. Our food was ready in about 20 minutes, which seemed a little long as we were the only diners, but we were not in a rush so it was fine. As the restaurant was unassuming, I honestly had pretty low expectations, but we both really enjoyed our meals. It was definitely large portions and really flavorful. My fiance said the Meatball Parm Po'Boy was delicious and I appreciated that the veggie burger seemed to be made in house as it was falling apart (in a good way) and you could distinguish some of the veggies. I ended up only eating about half of my burger and took the rest for lunch the next day and it held up well.

The drinks were so tasty... some restaurants go either too light or too heavy on either the juice or the alcohol but the drinks were well crafted. The fries are so so so good.... I would go back for the fries alone LOL It's a tight space but they have plenty of seating and I went on a Sunday afternoon and had no issue getting a table. It really elevated the flavor. The biscuits were light and flaky, and the gravy complemented them perfectly and was quite flavorful on its own. The praline pancake was also quite good. I did like their take on a traditional pancake. The breakfast sandwich was good, but it didn't blow me away considering the price And the high bar for breakfast sandwiches in the city. Overall, this is a very solid breakfast spot. I think there are better options, but it's worth trying. The atmosphere inside is comfortable, and the service is friendly and efficient, so I can't complain.

While they have all the traditional breakfast fare, I was so happy to see it also had a Caribbean twist to it. I couldn't help myself--I had to order rice and beans with pernil (pork shoulder) and a side of sweet plantains. Of course, I wanted some actual breakfast items, so we got the French toast loaded with fruit. We also got both the tres and quatro golpes, which is a traditional Dominican breakfast. Lastly, we got a Caribbean omelet. My rice and pernil was solid. The rice could've used a tad bit more seasoning but when mixed with the side of beans and plantains plus a drizzle of hot sauce it was perfect. They had a variety of sauces--Tabasco (my fave), a Jamaican one that was super spicy, and a mild homemade one. The tres/quatro golpes was also a hearty choice with mangu (mashed plantain), sausage, fried cheese, and eggs. The pickled red onion balanced everything out. The fried cheese is similar to a halloumi but I think it's a bit more flavorful. All the flavors just melt together in your mouth perfectly. The French toast and omelet were good. I'd say the Caribbean items stole the show though. The place has a typical diner vibe and is on the small side. Food was served quickly and service was good. Discount if you pay in cash. Apparently there is more than one location in Manhattan. The inside reminded me of a classic diner. Comfy and with a pretty cool vibe. We all slid into a booth and looked over the seasonal offerings along with their standard menu. I was lured by the chicken Kyiv based on the picture of having two rolled up chicken cutlets stuffed with dill and other yumminess, but was a bit disappointment when it arrived with a single small cutlet on my plate with two heaping mounds of potatoes mash and broccoli. I instantly had regret when I should have gotten the borscht soup with pierogies, but wanted to try something I wouldn't usually. I should've stuck to what was safe. My work mom got the stuffed cabbage and that was a clear homerun- really loved the mushroom gravy that it came with. My other colleague got the potato pancake and wasn't too thrilled with it, while my boss got the two Swedish meatballs that he described to be Ikea worthy. Although this was my first time here, I can't say that anyone really loved the food nor would come out of their way to come back. I really was hoping this would have wow-ed me in some way, but I guess I'll stick to what's familiar.
