I have been to this diner a handful of times. The menu is quite large as per most diners and and it tends to be pretty crowded in here which is especially the case during brunch where there's occasionally lines outside. It's not the best diner in the area (I would say for instance Grand Canyon on Montague in Brooklyn Heights around 12 minutes away is better) but the food here is fine. Staff is to be expected for a spot like this and it can get a bit loud as the place isn't super big. If you're looking for a pretty reasonable priced and tasty meal while feeling relatively healthy, the Athenian Pita with egg whites, spinach, feta, tomatoes, and oregano on toasted pita for around $12 is tasty. It's perhaps a tiny bit salty but it's good quality. The Florentine Benedict consisting of tow poached eggs on a toasted English muffin with spinach, feta, and hollandaise sauce for around $17.50 is more substantial and also pretty good. The eggs are properly poached and the home fries are solid in terms of texture though less flavored than some other spots I've been to. I wouldn't go out of my way here and for brunch, I prefer Gersi next door but you can definitely do worse.. read more

Came with a friend for brunch, and it was decently packed inside! Waited about 15 mins and was seated. I liked the diner ambience and it was decorated well for the holidays. The menu is very typical of a diner. There's a good amount of choices, and I went with two eggs with corned beef, which came with home fries and toast, which came quickly. It was a good amount of food but not very good food... the home fries and corned beef were wet and almost watery. Nothing was very flavorful and saved mostly by there being lots of cholula and being hungry. The service really wasn't friendly. This is a neighborhood diner that we came for breakfast one morning. We sat at the bar and they have hooks underneath for your bags and coats. There is a range of breakfast dishes from omelettes to benedicts to french toast, but when I saw the Chicken and Waffles ($17.95) on the menu, I knew I had to get that. The chicken is crispy and tender while the waffle was thick and fulfilling. There is just something about a sweet and savory combo drizzled with syrup all over. I ended up taking some to-go because it was so much food. On another visit during lunch this time, I ordered the Chipotle Bacon Burger ($12.95). I was getting my nails done and we were looking for a spot to grab breakfast/brunch before our next destination. We ordered online via their website and food was ready for pick up when we arrived. All it takes is one really bad experience to unfortunately make me not return. I've enjoyed this restaurant for years now. But I don't think I'll be returning. Manager, if you'd like to address this with your staff, this is for Check #62532, and was approximately 3:30 p.m Jan 11. Service: The hostess greeted us and seated us promptly. No problems there. Our waitress was friendly and took our orders as soon as we were ready, however she started to dash off before we were done ordering. One of our meals was to include a soup or salad, we were not offered that choice nor were we asked for our drinks. We had to stop her from dashing off, So that we could finish placing our order. At the time I assumed she was just hurried or inexperienced. The restaurant was active but not super crowded So this seemed odd. Fast forward, one of our meals arrives (without the included salad) and our waitress dashes off again, I assumed at the time to get my meal next. For the next 15 minutes our table was actively ignored. No explanation, no one noticing while we tried to motion for attention. Certainly no acknowledgment at the fact that I was without food while my table mate was faced with the decision to either start eating without me or let their food go cold waiting for mine. At some point somebody else came to refill my water, and I asked them when I can expect my plate to come out... they did not even look in my direction nor acknowledge that I spoke to them. They simply moved on to the next stable. Frankly I think my meal was just forgotten about. It was a burger and fries, certainly not something that takes such a long time. As I began to get fully agitated, and was about to simply storm out, my meal arrives. Again no acknowledgment, no apology, no explanation whatsoever. It was simply placed on the table unceremoniously and without them taking ownership of the mistake whatsoever. The level of service was pretty unacceptable and communication was non-existent. All it would have required was the most basic explanation. "There was a mix-up with your order and we had to remake it." " We're so sorry the order didn't go in properly., we're working on that now" "Thank you for your patience, we're getting your order out as soon as we can." Any of those statements would have been enough to communicate that they acknowledged there's a problem and they're working to fix it. But none of that happened. I don't need the staff to kiss my ass but you can't simply pretend the problem never occurred. Food: Now we get to the next problem: the actual food. The meal that arrived first was meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn. The mashed potatoes were great. The corn was canned and maybe sat around a little too long but it was fine. The meatloaf... Well the best way I can describe that is sort of like a ground beef flavored dog biscuit. It was vaguely reminiscent of meatloaf but not in texture and it was burnt like a hockey puck. The fact that this was served was laughable. The fact that we both had to nibble on this single meal, in absence of my own, was awkward and led to a pretty uncomfortable meal for both of us. The second meal, mine, the one which took an additional 15 minutes to get to the table was hamburger with fries. The fries were steak fries and terribly stale. Clearly they had been sitting around getting reheated. The bacon on my burger was burnt enough for me to simply take it off. And the actual burger... Now this is interesting. I ordered it medium, something I have done countless times before at this very same restaurant. What I received was cooked to a crisp on one half and nearly raw on the other half.. in the middle, it was mostly edible so I ate around the bad parts. The pickle was excellent. This completely unremarkable and barely edible meal cost me $49.50... I left a $0.50 tip and I actually struggled with that because having family in the food service industry, I always tend to overtip. I never not leave a tip. But my experience was so bad today that I needed to leave an insulting tip to match the service I received. I figure a 50-cent tip is probably more insulting than nothing. Hopefully the message was received but this review should provide any needed clarification. This review actually hurts a little because I've been enjoying cobble hill coffee shop for years... But looking at some of the other recent troubling reviews combined with my own experience now, it's clear that the direction of this establishment has changed and not for the better. I won't be returning. There are so many quality restaurants in this neighborhood that I have no reason to risk another bad experience. It's a shame really. I drove past Cobble Hill Coffeeshop on my way home yesterday so I decided to order breakfast today. I ordered the pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. I also ordered the hot chocolate. Delivery was super quick. I was so happy with how well everything was packaged and also surprised at the portions. I was able to share breakfast. The pancakes were 3 fluffy stacked high pillows of deliciousness, made me a bit nostalgic to the pancakes my mom would make me when I was a kid. The bacon, cooked perfectly and crunchy the way I like it. The eggs also cooked well and fluffy! Yum! I came here with a friend and I was pleasantly surprised. I was anticipating standard American diner food, but the huevos rancheros (weekend brunch special) I ordered far exceeded my expectations. My meal included scrambled eggs, two tortillas, half an avocado, salsa, pico de gallo, a piece of chorizo, and free refills on a soft drink. The food didn't taste overly salty or fatty (like much American diner fare does), but rather fresh, nutritious, and filling. I've eaten here countless times (for breakfast) and although diners are not really my thing, their food was pretty good overall. Service was a bit lackluster at times. Note--if you are into diners, they have set up an extensive curbside dining area. A lot of tables and space. In the past, i've tried and enjoyed their breakfast early bird specials, silver dollar pancakes and 3 egg omelets. They make a good cup of coffee, either hot or iced. The one thing that lacked at times was service. It was not consistent and to the point where I was kept waiting. Prices are standard comparable to most diners. I went to Cobble Hill Coffee Shop on 1/17/24. After ordering & food came me & my cousin were eating & at 1 point a staff worker started mopping the floor & using a strong smelling detergent!! How can you do that while customers are eating?? I made a complaint to the waitress. I'm not sure if they will do anything in my opinion!!! Made an order through seamless, the order was 30 minutes behind the delivery time so I called the restaurant and the woman who answered told me my order had already been picked up and would arrive soon. I wait 30 minutes and called back to check on the order and the same woman told me it actually hadn't been picked up yet and they would have it picked up to be delivered. Wait almost 40 minutes and call back again to check on my order, for that woman to berate me and ask "do you know how far you are?? What delivery person is going to delivery to you?" Who speaks to customers that way?? She gives me the run around, doesn't tell me my order hasn't been picked up, then is rude about delivery? Never tried the food, one star for extremely rude waitstaff. Edit: saw the reply. No, the review is towards the staff. The order being picked up late is one thing - it happens. What I don't appreciate is being told it had already been picked up, then later being told it actually hadn't. I like this place!! There are so many diners in the area that it seems hard to distinguish one from the other. This one stands out. My first experience was delivery. I had an overwhelming urge for spinach pie. Knowing that nothing could top my favorite Astoria spot for homemade spinach pie, I decided to settle for anywhere in the area. An exhaustive search located only one choice: Cobble Hill Coffee Shop. The Spinach Pie with Greek Salad was adequate but as expected, not on the level of the Astoria fare. Yesterday, after a visit to the doctor a few blocks away, I decided what I really needed was hot steaming soup. Certainly that could help clear my head and sinus cavities. So I stopped at the diner. From the minute I walked in, I felt a warm welcoming atmosphere. I fully expected a motherly figure to hover and say "Eat this. You'll feel better". There actually was one there. But she wasn't my server. The patrons seated around me appeared to be regulars, which is always a good sign. My soup choice was the Lentil. It couldn't have been a better choice for excellent comfort food. They also had my current drink obsession. Although the weather didn't call for it, I had lemonade. I left, on a quest for prescriptions, feeling fortified to make it through the day. Today still called for comfort food. After all, it was the dreaded alternate side parking day and I was sick. Cobble Hill Coffee Shop's Chicken & Rice Soup was what I chose. It was so yummy, not a thin, skimpy soup. Instead there were plentiful large pieces of really good white meat. The rice and veggies were generous. And the seasoning was the way "Mom" would have done it. For my Grandson, I ordered Franks & Beans. (Don't tell his parents!!). He ate the Franks and absolutely loved them. I ate the beans, which were scrumptiously seasoned. The sweet taste was yummy. Just OK for me. I was really in the mood for diner-type food and I had been meaning to try this place out. It has that true diner smell and vibe. We came during what seemed like a busy lunch rush but we were sat pretty quickly at the counter. My friend ordered ice coffee with oat milk and she was given iced coffee with no oat milk. Multiple people had come by to take our order and things were being served by someone who didn't take our order so maybe that's where the mix up happened. I ordered a chicken caesar wrap and my friend ordered a western omelette. we were both starving and ate our entire meals. I enjoyed my wrap but I felt it was bit small for the price point. the fries were good but they were basic frozen fries and were thrown on the plate. I'm not expecting a fancy plating job from a diner, but it just looked a little sloppy. the pickle looked unappealing as well so I didn't eat it. I was also never given cole slaw which, according to the menu, is supposed to come with the wrap. my friend said her western omelette was fine. Overall, it was just OK for me. definitely on the pricier side (everything is about $3-$5 overpriced in my opinion) and the portions were not as big as other, less expensive diners I've been to in Brooklyn. This place is not a diner. They close at 5pm. And not just that- they want to be locking up at 5pm - meaning if they serve you food at 4:30 they will kick you out less than 30 minutes later. That is pretty unheard of in NYC. The kitchen closing is one thing, but its very basic customer service to wait until the patrons leave to actually close the gates. The worst part was that they waited until 4pm to take our order, and didn't mention anything about closing until 5-10 minutes after we put the orders in, and said they would be cleaned and locking up at 5. Again, basic communication would have made this a non-issue, but informing us of that after we placed a food order is absurd and bad customer service. I said "I just placed a Seamless order and made a mistake-I forgot to add cheese to my burger- is it possible?" The woman I spoke to said "speak clearly or don't speak".
